Authors note: I had a thought to make a mythical spirit that inhabits the Everfree Forest that searches the forest for lost foals she can comfort. She is a kind spirit however her magic isn't very forgiving as the lost foals she finds aren't always foals. This results in some very unfortunate transformations for her victims. I made a compilation of stories with this character, so enjoy and feel free to use Mama Mare in your own stories if you wish Human in Equestria meets Mama Mare >Andy wanders through the Everfree forest >The human only has a short time in Equestria and he's going to make the most of it >despite the travel agency's warnings he decides to venture into the Everfree forest >Hearing stories of ancient ruins and mystical creatures deep inside the forest made up his mind already >He flips through his guide book to the forest with incredulity "Come on, these things all look made up, cockatrice, dragonequus, bug bear, mama mare? Come on, these have to be fake. There probably aren't even any monsters in here" >He tells himself hearing some quiet hoofsteps behind him >He looks behind him to see a smiling white unicorn mare >Thinking nothing of the pony, he waves and continues walking >His mind begins to question the mare's flowing mane in the still forest air and her gentle ruby eyes >He remembers the warning the travel agency gave him: >"Nopony travels through the everfree forest NOPONY!" >As he keeps walking, he feels a sneaking suspicion that something isn't right >He turns around and sees the smiling mare much closer >Within talking range, he's creeped out by the eerie smile from the mare "Are you lost? poor little colt, Mama's here" >Backing away from the slow mare he starts to feel a little concerned "Um, no, I'm not lost I'm just going to see the ruins" >He turns away and starts speed walking >His fear is stoked every time he turns around and sees the happy smiling mare trailing behind him >Going deeper into the forest, the mist starts to obscure his vision as the mare pursues "Leave me alone!" >He yells out finally breaking into a sprint rushing past bushes throwing leaves out of his face before finding a rock to hide behind >Hushing his breath, he scrambles to find his guide and starts flipping through the pages >He opens the book to Mama Mare >Hearing a lullaby echoing through the mist, he frantically skims the page for information >The lullaby slowly gets louder as he finds the info passage >"Mama Mare is a spirit that resides in the forest...encounters are rare but have serious consequences" >His heart pounds as he continues reading >"Victims of this spirit are found regressed to foals." >Despite his trembling hands, he continues reading >"Victims slowly lose mental acuity till they are mentally regressed to their physical age" >With the lullaby sounding like it's right behind him he frantically skims the rest >"The effects are permanent and there is no known magical remedy to reverse the age regression" >"All victims report hearing a lullaby before being regressed" >His heart pumps out of his chest reading the last part "Do not under any circumstances be touched by the mare as a single touch is all that is needed to begin the regression spell" >Hearing a leaf crunch under hoof and seeing ruby eyes of the mare emerge from the mist he cries out in fear scrambling to his feet "No! Leave me alone!" >He cries flying through the blinding mist only able to see what's in front of him as the lullaby echoes again >Gasping for air and frantically looking behind >Kicking a rock and twisting his ankle he tumbles across the forest floor >Getting to his feet again he continues limping along >The agony of the twisted ankle forces him to the ground again dragging himself to a rock "Somebody help me!!!" >He desperately begs into the silent mist >With a minute of silence and a moment to catch his breath, he thinks he finally escaped Mama Mare >Hearing the lullaby again causes his body to shatter as a shot of adrenaline floods through his veins >Hearing the lullaby get louder and louder he prays and begs for the spirit to give up >Desperate to escape the slow pregnant mare, he gets up to his feet using the rock for support >Testing his ankle to see if he can still run he collapses back to the ground leaning against the rock >Hearing hoofsteps, he leans against the rock and holds his breath >Please don't, oh god please don't let her find me. He begs in his head >The lullaby ends and his heart sinks >The ghostly white mare emerges from the mist with a gentle smile as though she was gazing upon a beloved child "No, no, please don't!" >He begs pushing his back against the rock as the beautiful mare stops face to face with the human >He whines and leans away turning his cheek to the mare trying to avoid being touched >With a gentle kiss on the cheek Andy feels the magic coursing through his body "What, no! Oh no! Please, I'm sorry! I'll do anything, just please don't do this!" >He begs as he feels the mares magic take effect >He feels the fuzzy fur spread from his cheek and feels his face take the form of a stallion >As the fur reaches his hands he watches his hands disappear turning into hooves >Crying and feeling defeated by the spirit, he lay on the ground as he lets the transformation take effect. >With Andy in a pony form he quietly mutters to the mare begging for mercy >Shrinking into his clothes he starts to whine and cry sobbing like a baby >The mare's horn glows as the foal whines and cries >She lifts the baby colt out of the clothes rocking and trying to soothe the worried pony "What did you do to me" >Andy sniffles looking at his little colt body >Looking at his shrunken manhood his lip quivers before the doting mare hides it under a thick diaper taping it snug >Patting his thick padding with his little hooves, he covers his eyes as the tears flow >The mare sits on the forest floor bringing the foal to her angelic chest fluff >She hums a little lullaby and rocks her foal to comfort him >Beating his little hooves against the spirits chest fluff in a loud tantrum, he slowly loses his energy >Leaning his head against the spirits chest he finally sits and listens to the spirits angelic voice sings him a lullaby >He imagines the words in his mind finally relaxing enough to quit his crying >With a kiss on her foals forehead she gives him a pacifier to further calm her little foal "It's okay my little stallion, Mama is here" >With no more resistance from Andy, the spirit teases the foal "Can you say, i love you mama? >Andy grumbles into the pacifier as he tries to ignore the mare >Tightening her hug and letting the foal feel her warm embrace, she keeps teasing "Can you say, i love you mama" >Andy starts to fear that the spirit may have more abilities than even described in the book >He knows the spirit is being kind right now and he wants to keep it that way >With the mare asking again snuggling him tight he bites down on his pacifier swallowing what little pride he has left "I love you mama" >He sniffles blushing as the mare pats his padded butt "Who's my good little foal" >She teases relishing in the joy the cuddles bring her >With a kiss on his head he stews in rage before quivering realizing he's powerless to stop the spirit >Listening to the spirit sing her lullaby he slowly drifts off to sleep nuzzling into her warm chest fluff Peachy Hooves, Finds Mama Mare: >In the everfree forest a lone stallion wanders the forest searching for a mythical spirit >Mama Mare >This spirit has the power to turn stallions and mares into little foals >Though many ponies fear this spirit, Peachy Hooves searches tirelessly to see her >For years he's tried to find her with no success >He even doubted her existence till Nurse Redheart herself confirmed it >Every few years a new foal is found on the doorstep of the hospital crying about Mama Mare before the mental regression sets in >Peachy Hooves blushes at the thought >The thought of forgetting everything frightens him, but it would be a welcome change to the stallion >With a family life that could be described as nothing better than bearable he yearns for a chance to start over >With his many encounters of the beasts and monsters in the forest, he fears it may be game over before he even gets a chance >With the moon beginning to rise and a mist starting to slowly overtake the cold forest Peachy Hooves lowers his head and makes his return to Ponyville >He can't help but to shed a tear and sniffle releasing his pent up sadness in the lonesome forest >The shuffle of leaves behind cause him to whip around fearing another attack >much to his surprise he finds a lone white mare with a bulging pregnant belly emerging from the mist >She opens her ruby red eyes and gazes upon her little colt with pure adoration "Aw, little foal, are you lost?" >The grown stallion realizes who this mare is and his hooves tense with fear and adrenaline >His hooves shuffle as though to make an escape but he fights the temptation watching the majestic spirit sit there with a calming smile "Yes, I'm lost, can you help me?" >He asks trembling in his hooves fearing what will happen next >The mare slowly approaches as Peachy Hooves backs away out of instinct "It's okay my little foal, Mama's here to take care of you" >She softly explains as she starts singing a lullaby >Peachy Hooves can't control his strawberry red blush as she calls him her little foal >He winces and leans away as she nuzzles against him >The mare showers her new foal (victim) with love as he obediently sits on the forest floor "Come here my little foal, Mama's got you" >She soothingly whispers bringing her new foal to cuddle on her >Sucking his pacifier and laying against her angelic white chest fluff, he just wants one more little kiss >Mama Mares ruby eyes meet his and with an adoring smile she leans in to give her foal another kiss on the forehead "It's sleepy time little one" >Peachy groans pleading with his eyes to never let this moment end "Will you be my mama?" >Peachy begs hugging the spirit has hard as he can white fluff and sleepily nuzzles "Oh look he's awake" >He faintly hears sighing with adoration "Mama Mare?" >He asks before looking to see Nurse Redheart >He blushes and turns away from her "Did you say Mama Mare? Oh no, did she get you? Quick, what's your name so we can notify your family" >Peachy hears Nurse Redheart ask about his family as he defiantly sticks he tongue at her "I went in the forest and i saw Mama Mare. She was the most beautif-fuh" >His mind slowly starts to slip forgetting all but the most basic words >Hearing the foal start to slip into mental regression she presses again to get basic info "Please sir, i need your name so we can help you" >He ignores the nurses demands as the world starts to become magical and full of wonder again. >He smiles and looks at the colorful posters on the walls as the nurse desperately tries to get his attention "Sir please, answer me!" "I wike the fowest, with trees and uh" He starts playing with his padding forgetting why he didn't wanna tell her his name so he smiles and proudly tries to tell her "My name is uh, pee, hehe- i said pee" He giggles to himself almost entirely losing his ability to focus "Pretty white pony-" >He babbles before his mind slips away locking him away in nothing but cozy foal thoughts >Nurse Redheart sighs with annoyance "Tell the Mayor we have another Mama Mare foal..." Apricot Belle Escapes Mama Mare >A lone mare picks mushrooms for her soup at the edge of the everfree forest. >With basket in mouth, she forages and enjoys nature going about it's way >Apricot Belle has taking such a liking to her carrot and mushroom soup that she's picked the area clean >She hears tales about the forest being haunted and filled with monsters, but surely just a little bit into the forest wouldn't be dangerous >Going deeper into the forest she finds large delicious mushrooms and gathers them into her basket >At this rate I'll have enough mushrooms for an entire week of soups! She thinks to herself before finally filling her basket >Lost in her greed for mushrooms she realizes she had lost her way >Taking a moment to try and orient herself she finds a mist slowly overtaking the forest >Great...now I'm gonna be lost and not see where I'm going she whines to herself with a groan "Are you lost little filly?" >Startled, she turns to see a pregnant white mare with a warm gentle smile >She sets down her basket and starts rambling "Oh yes, could you help me I'm from Ponyville and i..." >She meets eyes with the mare, eyes red like rubies, mane flowing unnaturally in the still forest air >She tenses up as the mare starts walking towards her "Aw, poor little foal, Mama's here, don't worry about a thing" >Deeply worried about what this creature is, she doesn't want to stick around to find out >She picks up her basket without any idea where she is or where she's going >All she knows is to walk the opposite direction of the ghostly mare >Hearing the hoofsteps behind her she occasionally turns around just to see where the mare is >Mama Mare's eyes gaze upon her little filly with pure joy imagining a fun game of follow the leader >Apricot Belle whines as she hears the eerie lullaby softly sung behind her >With the mist seemingly growing thicker she starts to panic >Looking behind her, all she can see are the red eyes of the white unicorn behind her >The sounds of the lullaby echo through her mind embedding them into memory >She stumbles through the forest basket in mouth dropping a few tripping over rocks and fallen branches >With Mama Mare's eyes still close behind gently glowing in the darkening mist she starts to cry "Poor little foal, don't cry, let Mama give you a warm hug" >Mama Mare says dreamily wanting to make her little filly feel safe and loved >Dropping her basket in panic she starts galloping through the forest crying dodging trees as they come into view >With the lullaby growing faint she believes she lost her >With a thud she trips over a fallen branch wincing and feeling her legs >Hearing the lullaby slowly get louder she gets back to her hooves and shuffles along >In the dark mist the lullaby slowly fades >She sits and catches her breath looking around in fear wondering if she got away >With the snap of a branch she sees the glowing red eyes in the mist >Shaking off the pain Apricot Belle gallops through the forest >The haunting lullaby causes her to yell into the woods "Please help me! Somepony please!" >With a break in the mist, she almost cries with joy galloping into the clearing. >With Ponyville in the distance, she starts running for safety free of the mist. >She stops to catch her breath turning to the forest to see if the mare will pursue >in the distance she sees the ghostly white mare standing at the edge of the forest, watching her every move >With the lullaby floating on the gentle breeze, Apricot Belle screams and gallops for Ponyville horrified by the events that just transpired >Though Apricot thinks she got away, Mama Mare smiles with joy >Traumatized by what she saw she desperately asks for any wisdom on the creature >Not even Twilight Sparkle had any idea what she had seen. >Nasty ponies tease her telling her is too late >"Once you hear her lullaby, you're destined to be her foal" >The Ponies would say >The only one with any answers was nurse Redheart. >Nopony believed Redheart when she said Mama Mare wasn't just a nursery tale >She had only seen victims but never anyone with an encounter who was able to tell the tale before regressing completely >Apricot Belle trembles with worry with her only solace being she's the only one who got away. >Hearing stories of foals waking up crying about Mama Mare before their mind fades makes her sick to her stomach >She leaves for home, thankful for how lucky she was to have escaped >Under a full moon, Apricot Belle makes herself a carrot soup >though she doesn't worry about Mama Mare anymore she is scared senseless by the mere sight of the forest >The townsponies think she's crazy or making up the story for attention but she know what she saw >On that cool night the mist rolls into Ponyville nothing out of the ordinary >She starts closing her windows to keep the warmth in >Closing the last window, her mind shatters hearing the lullaby floating on the wind >She looks out to the night streets and meets eyes with the smiling white mare >She slams the window shut locking the doors her eyes watching every corner >Even as her soup boils over she frantically cowers as the lullaby penetrates the walls. >She holds her breath as the hoofsteps clop outside her house. >She hides under her table watching the mare's ghostly shadow passes through the beams of light at each window >She quietly sobs to herself desperately begging for mama mare to go away >Even as the sounds of clopping hoofsteps disappear into the night she remains frozen under the table >"Please, somepony help me" she thinks to herself >Every attempt to get the townsponies to see Mama Mare, the mare never appears almost as if to mock her >Fearing what would happen if she stayed in Ponyville, she left for Baltimare to stay with family >As she finally calmed herself with the help of family, she finally settled into her life >With Ponyville and Mama Mare far in her past memories, she sleeps soundly >the past year enjoying her new house and finally being back with family have done wonders to calm her anxiety >Even on this misty night in Baltimare she is able to relax >She reads her evening book, tales of a land before Equestria, She fills her mind with wonder before hearing the chime of the clock tower reminding her how late it is >The chime echoes through the misty air as she closes her book and turns out the lights >Closing her eyes and imagining the world of wonder from the book she starts to question why the last chime seems to be hanging in the air >Chalking it up to some strange echo she ignores it till the echo fades into a lullaby >Confused, it takes a moment for her brain to process what that song is >A painful shock of adrenaline pumps though her body >How did she find me! Baltimare is so far away! She asks herself unable to process the reality >With the lullaby fading again and the sound of the last chime fading into the night sky, she has to collect her thoughts and take a breath to calm down "I'm insane, I'm insane, she can't get me here" she tells herself with her old mantra to try and get sleep >Hearing the clop of a hoofstep in the room she panics >By the time her eyes fly wide open with terror a white hoof draws her in for a cuddle >The lullaby softly whispers into her ear as she tears up in Mama Mare's embrace >She wants to scream but her teeth clench as she tries to squirm away from the Mare's hug "You're really good at hide and seek young filly" >Mama Mare teases nuzzling her foal with joy "N-no, I'm not a filly, I'm a mare!" >She whines crying into her pillow "That's right, you're gonna grow up to be a pretty mare" >Mama Mare gives her filly a heartfelt kiss on the cheek casting her spell "Please, no! Don't do this, Mama Mare! Please no!" >She tearfully begs as she feels her body relaxing and shrinking >She desperately tries to fight it but as she is regressed to a little foal all she can do is cry as her mouth is gagged by a pacifier >With her diaper lovingly taped in place, Mama Mare cuddles her little foal >Sobbing into the pacifier she recalls what nurse Redheart said >No magic remedy exists to reverse her spell and shortly after you will lose your mental abilities >She can only sob helplessly as Mama Mare tries to gently rock her to sleep "Poor little Filly, you must have had a terrible nightmare. Good thing mama is here for you" >Mama Mare blissfully smiles giving her foal another kiss >Apricot Belle trembles and finally brings herself to accept her fate >Some part of her finds relief in the worry being over >All those sleepless nights, hearing the lullaby where it doesn't exist, having a panic attack every time she sees the mist, it's all finally over >The doom of being Mama Mare's little filly doesn't seem to upset her as much as she thought it would >With the relief and despair mellowing each other out, she finds comfort >As she turns and gets pulled into Mama Mare's chest fluff she finds herself cuddling her for comfort as her cries start to hush themselves "There there little filly, Mama's here for you" >She quietly whispers cradling Apricot Belle tight against her chest Cherry Sprout Loses His Kite >A Colt and his friends happily play with their kites soaring high over the fields near Ponyville >Pushing it further and further he lets out more and more string till he can barely see it in the sky >With the kite slowly flying more erratically he tries to maintain control >Trying to reel it in the kite veers off course careening into the forest far into the distance "NO! My kite!" >Cherry Sprout cries out yanking on the string in futility >His friends gather round "Sorry dude, it was a good kite" >With a misguided sense of confidence he believes it's not too far into the forest "I think we can get it" >His friends gasp in worry "My parents say the forest is super dangerous, my mom would kill me if she found out i went in there!" >With a grunt the proud little Colt ventures to the treeline alone "Fine, if you're too scared to help, I'll just go and get it alone" >Thinking he saw the kite somewhere near the edge of the forest he rushes in quickly getting himself lost in the forest >With a low mist hanging in the forest he looks up into the canopy trying to find his kite >As the mist grows thicker and he loses his way, little Sprout starts to whine >Running through the forest he tries to find his way out looking for any familiar landmarks before he trips over a rock hurting his little hoof >Scared and hurt, he finally starts to cry alone and trapped in the woods >The sounds of hoof steps frighten him but he looks up to see a lone white unicorn mare "Are you lost my little Colt?" >She asks with her mane flowing in the still forest air >Sniffling he wipes his tears "Yea, can you help me? I lost my kite" >Cherry Sprout asks nervous of ruby eyed mare gazing upon him with adoration >With a helping hoof she gets the Colt to his hooves >Just her mere touch seems to put the Colt at ease and heal his hurt hoof "Let's see if we can find your kite" >She smiles as the proud Colt nuzzles against her happy to have a grown up there for him >With a calming walk through the forest, Cherry Sprout plays climbing on logs and jumping from rock to rock under the loving supervision of Mama Mare >The Colts eyes shoot wide with delight as the glittery red kit is visible in the treetops "There! I see it" >Mama Mare's horn glows and retrieves the kite from the tree canopy returning it to the adoring earth pony colt "What do you say my little Colt?" >Mama Mare smiles with joy seeing the happy smile on his face "Thank you Mama Mare!" >With a little chuckle she leads him back to the edge of the forest "You're welcome my little colt" >Reaching the edge of the forest Cherry Sprout can see his friends all still playing and waiting for their friend to return >Mama Mare stops as Cherry Sprout turns to her blushing "Thank you Mama Mare, i don't know what would have happened if you weren't there" >Mama Mare gasps in delight as the little Colt gives her a good-bye hug "Mama Mare is always here for you. Every lost foal can call me Mama" >With a kiss on his forehead he feels the mare simply vanish into the mist as it retreats into the forest >Frightened by the mysterious spirit, he tries looking to see where she must have gone >With Mama Mare nowhere in sight he looks to his friends playing in the field "Hey guys, i found it!" >He cheers galloping across the field ready to fly his kite once more
