I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.” >>42563107 So, Celestia banishes Luna to the Moon. What caused Anon to be banished? Getting banished to the void is a pretty big punishment, so I can only assume what Anon did was pretty bad in Harmony's eyes. If you want full-on evil, the only thing I can think of that would fit Anon's motif if he were a pony supermecist and actively tried to eradicate all the other creatures in Equestra. >>42563157 Maybe full dark lord? making an evil talisman, using golems, wraiths, being overly violent and turning lush forests into wastelands that or pulling from my own writing stuff I've always thought the idea of a 'wild lord' would be cool, some maniacally freedom-survival of the fittest driven nut job commanding beast armies like the inverse of your typical necromancer >>42563157 he ate ALL the cakes, ALL OF THEM >>42563194 Celestia and Luna repersent the Sun and the Moon. Anon could be the Alicorn of the Skies, it would fit the freedom theme. Perhaps he just didn't want to rule ponykind and instead opposed Harmony's meddling. >>42563243 Earth has always been the obvious choice to me if there was ever a 3rd sibling, it fits neater and its fairly open in interpretation for role and design I remember in early fandom days there'd be OC alicorns of time, death, life, spirit and so on all seems convoluted to me >>42563243 >Anon's domain was the skies >He controlled the weather >After his banishment, the pegasi took on his responsibilities in his stead >Modern Pegasus communities no longer know why they control the weather, just that that's what they do and what they've always done >Anon's return then presents a dilemma >Either he retakes his domain and every weatherpony loses their livelihoods immediately >Or he doesn't meddle with the current status quo at the cost of no longer having a representative identity unlike Celestia and Luna. You could go further than this and say that if Celestia and Luna are a diarchy representing the mystical, Anon is a monarch representing the natural. Something like >>42563259 suggests. >Anon was the first cultivator of the abilities of Earth Ponies >His disappearance rendered the studies of their natural magic forgotten, which is why it remains such an unexplored branch today >>42563271 >You could go further than this and say that if Celestia and Luna are a diarchy representing the mystical, Anon is a monarch representing the natural anon = earth ponies, luna = unicorns, celestia = pegasi? an alicorn for each tribe that way and Anon's role whatever it was was just managed by a mix of celestia and culturally by the entirety of equestria >>42563493 low effort today https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1757/69/1757691193797.png >>42563281 I imagine that if Anon was the natural, then when Discord arrived and began causing chaos, it would have drove Anon crazy. Due to this his sisters had no choice but to banish him, as he was now an obstacle to Discord. >>42563750 discord fucking with nature which ancientanon was connected to made him crazy, would a returned anon then be incredibly docile since nature is controlled in equestria? >>42563805 >>42563750 >The Everfree Forest was Anon's labor of love >He alongside the most gifted earth ponies in nature manipulation turned a barren waste into a verdant swathe within a generation >Everything changed when Discord appeared >The very pulse of the land was intertwined with Anon, being a master of natural magic >The ancient abomination's chaotic magic adversely affected Anon as a result >So much so that the Everfree became a reflection of Anon's deterioration in near-real time >Celly and Luna had no choice but to turn the Elements on their youngest sibling >Binding Anon in stasis before he - and the now wholly wild Everfree - could do any major damage to everypony and himself >The sisters ordered a total secrecy statute regarding their younger brother in order to preserve the memory of who he was, rather than who he became >It was so effective and absolute, over time the only ponies that ever know that there was a triarchy are Celestia and Luna themselves >>42563805 Unlike Luna, Anon wasn't sealed inside his own element. He was torn away from it. I doubt the Anon that returns would even have memories of it and not understand all the little things he felt. He would be way more out of place then Luna ever was. >>42563850 this feels a bit too evil for discord to do imo, screwing with the gardener alicorn maybe but turning him into plant cancer is a bit too far >>42563864 I don't really mean for it to come across as something Discord does to Anon maliciously, rather the things Discord does to the land (chaotically upending the natural order) negatively affects Anon because he's so in tune with it. Almost like an allergic reaction to an extreme degree. >>42563885 yeah that works, either discord's fuckery creates a chain reaction or it makes anon aware of what real nature is and that ponies controlling it isnt how it should be >>42565096 That could be funny, anon has zero clue what theyre talking about at any time as they reminisce and discuss a past he wasnt a part of >"come now this was your favourite food when you were little!" >No it isnt >your favourite food was dino nuggies >>42565367 >>42563805 >>42565096 >Celly and lulu are worried, it's like the harmony blast just reset anon > he has no memories of them at all or what he used to be >all he does is babble nonsense like computers and skyscrapers >words nopony understands >he doesn't even do the thinks he used to like to do >he's completely content being shutaway in the dark reading books all day like what twilight used to be >but somehow anon is worse >he draws random things, stories and smut >>42565422 When Anon was torn away from his word his life lost all meaning. It reflected in his human life, where he outright just refused to socialize. A complete shut in loner, all the way until the faithful day he was yanked back to Equestria. Harmony's little message of 'playing nice' means nothing to him. This place is bright, everybody is way to happy and annoying. These two 'horses' won't stop calling him brother, even after he tells them they got the wrong guy. He just wants to go home. >>42563805 >>42563850 >>42565096 >Equestria's natural wildlife was more akin to Earth's before Discord, free, wild, and powerful in its own right >Made even more powerful due to being directly connected to an alicorn >Sadly the connection went both ways >When Discord made the natural world chaotic, Anonicorn couldn't compensate and went mad >Got banished >Without him around to regulate the damage Discord had done, earth ponies took control of the land and pegasi took control of the skies >But they could never get it to actually work >Earth ponies could motivate the earth to grow food, but pegasi had to manually do everything to do with weather >Without Anon, it was like the entire planet had fallen into a coma >This lack of control emphasized in the few times the weather or land have gone haywire in a way that neither race could get under control >Celestia had to watch this for a thousand years >What made it worse is that Luna returned before Anon >By all means, he should have returned first >But instead the sisters were able to catch up >It took Discord being released, and then resealed for the resultant chaos to finally crack the seal on Anonicorn's banishment >But when he returned he was... off >It's like he didn't remember himself >He didn't remember Equestria or his sisters >He didn't remember, or even care for their subjects >When offered a place ruling by them to help their ponies, his only response with "why the hell would I want to help you?" >It took all of Celestia's strength to not break down into tears as her brother glared at her like she was a stranger that had offended him and walked away without so much as a second glance >This new lease on life was stranger for Anon >He'd been spat out into an alien world, in alien skin and these freaks were acting like they knew him >But there was something else, some sort of itch in the back of his head and in his new hooves and wings >This world was all kinds of weird >Pegasi moved clouds around manually >Plants didn't grow without earth ponies >The only place that made sense was the Evergree Forest >So he decided to set up there >It helped that the ponies were afraid of it, so he got left alone >And his mind seemed to calm down in there >But the rest of Equestria bothered him >It's like he could feel it at the edges of the Everfree >This world that didn't act naturally >Sure, he was on an alien planet from Earth, so maybe their weather and planet didn't work the same >But the sky and land shouldn't need help to work >Right? >Meanwhile, for some reason, the Cloudsdale weather factory machines began to overload, the pegasi struggling to keep the weather that had seemed to gain a mind of its own under control >And all over Equestria, the various branches of the Apple Family farms have begun writing to each other about advice for the strange way their trees were spreading >When word reaches Celestia and Luna, the sisters feel a mix of elation and trepidation >Equestria was finally waking up >>42566436 >Be you >Chilling in some gay old castle inna woods after escaping the big horses >Lots of books here, beats fapping with hooves and rolling around in the dirt >that got old after the first 2 days >The other horsies won't come in here, forest is haunted/cursed/spooky something like that >It'd be fine, great even. but.. >Weird, WEIRD shit keeps happening >Like weird even for horseworld >The trees for one, some freak carved faces into half of them and they creak obnoxiously whenever you're near to them >It doesn't help that the creaking hits that same unpleasant tone that sounds like your name being called sometimes >The trees are bad enough but then the little piles of random crap kept piling up. >Flowers, some apples, a half-shredded book, at least one gold coin albeit filthy, odds and ends that left you wondering if you'd made lair with some particularly covetous birds eager to stock their nests with whatever crap they'd found >All manageable really until today >The source of the assorted items turned out to be a half dozen or so dogs made of twigs and leaves >Some of them bowed, bowed to you, then another trotted forward proud with something orange, feathery and thrashing in its jaws >A chicken you thought initially but when it spat the thing out at your hooves covered in sappy-spit it wasn't a chicken >It was a scootaloo, a flightless breed of bird known for obsession with bright colours ~~~ redrew evil anon sketches https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1757/70/1757706281523.png >>42564212 I love this picture. I love it. >>42564212 Evil wizard anon who hates ponies and wants to escape ponyland. >>42564212 I imagine that while anon views himself of being hell incarnate, and causing untold devastation before his hooves. In reality he is just doing mischievous pranks like putting a bucket of water above the door to the throne room. Celestia had anon later in life so she can't help but anticipate his antics to shake up her otherwise dull day, even though outwardly she has to act stern due to anon dumping a bag of flower in front of a moving fan at gathering nobles. In his head its anthrax >>42568561 Also the Terrible, horrendous ,absolutely VILE anon still wants the crust cut off of his sammies, and for mummy-dearest to tuck him into bed every night ~~~ i'm sketching a nightmare mode version of the earth anonicorn, just brainstorming but heres what i've got >no regalia? not sure on this one >antlers, curved horn, longer tail, sharp feathers >bird eyes over cat eyes like the other two >saber tooth/musk deer fangs >lots of tufts >regular anon colour's just slightly deeper/darker overall a more wild/feral look contrasting to daybreaker and nightmare moon the term wild lord was used maybe that can be this form's name? >>42573401 >>no regalia? not sure on this one Make it like armor, similar to how Sombra has his but sharper, with maybe a rusted coloring overtaking the original bronze. >overall a more wild/feral look contrasting to daybreaker and nightmare moon Sounds good, make his body thicker overall, more muscular. Would fit with a dark Lord of the Wild kinda vibe, kinda a toxic alpha male/top predator vibe. The rest of it sounds good. As for names, I'm terrible with names but I'll think on it and post if I have any good suggestions. >>42573401 >no regalia? not sure on this one >>42573464 >Make it like armor, similar to how Sombra has his but sharper if it's Earth Anonicorn, then how about armor made out of Everfree trees? a sort of gnarled wood that twists around him protectively, maybe even give him a horned crown also made out of wood? >>42563850 >>42566436 Celestia and Luna have their own guards, what would Anon's guard just be a bunch of chill nature druid earth ponies? >>42574597 He made his own. The monsters of the Everfree are what’s left of them after thousands of years without their master >>42574627 >The monsters of the Everfree are what’s left of them >1000 years ago, Anon called the stars down as a gift for his sister Luna in the form of the first Ursa Minor I shiggy >>42574627 Yes based, wild anon made timberwolves, ent, Venus fly trap and the creaking type things with his magic when he was going manic. If we're calling him the wild lord he should have a wild hunt >>42574642 So when Anon became wild all the earth ponies that worked aside him just bailed on him. Brutal. >>42574750 Im imagining he was way less a leader than nightmare moon was, just manic bordering on feral, depending how you wanna take it he could have descended into full on leshen/wendigo territory >>42574757 I'm talking about before Discord's arrival. I assumed if he ruled alongside his sisters then he would have had his own royal guard. >>42574597 >>42574771 Nature Prince Anon probably wouldn't have anything "official". He'd have an entourage provided by his sisters for any official matters at their behest and perhaps an elite SAS-like corps suited for survival and all-terrain manoeuvres at his own discretion, which became defunct after his banishment. >>42574774 Early equestrian rangers? Back in the day real Aragorn types before developing into just regular rangers in modern equestria >>42574915 Yeah, pretty much. Officially these ponies could be actually be druids or acolytes of natural magic, but through Anon's teachings and understanding of how nature works it only took a little combat training for them to be really effective combatants in difficult terrain or remote locations. >Anon teaches his students how to recognise useful flora at a touch >Which extends to using that sense to extend one's awareness being in contact with local plant life >Then using that lesson to being able to extend awareness using only the bare earth, like Toph >This becomes effective in areas with low visibility/high foliage density >Also handy for finding water sources in a pinch by using that extended awareness to study the general lay of the land >Which becomes useful for cartography >Or he teaches them a trick to grow edibles really quickly at the cost of degenerating the plant at a highly accelerated rate >Which then evolves into cultivating an "emergency ration plant" that can last for a few days of forced growth before becoming mulch And so on. Then when Anon goes wild, all of that already specialist, esoteric knowledge is rendered less effective because of the strange ways the Everfree Forest changes and warps perceptions. You could then have a team of ponies that were faithful to their prince, but were unable to do anything to help in the face of a corrupted Anon that far outstripped them in skill and mastery. >>42574774 I guess nature would have been his guard, in the sense that the very earth they trotted upon was protecting Anon. Though at the same time, it sounds like Anon had barely any connections before he went wild. As bad as Nightmare Moon is, you just know some of her guards were more then likely 'ride and die' for her. >>42574789 >Though at the same time, it sounds like Anon had barely any connections before he went wild. could work for an innawoods type prince, he was disconnected from most ponies but he didn't see it that way, he was connected to the soil and the cool breeze, to him he was more connected to their subjects than his sisters ever were, he experienced every foals first steps, every pegasi's first flight, every time a unicorn first pulled at the magic around them, and he felt everytime they returned to nature he could meet a pony who has never met him before and recount their most closely guarded secret or most cherished memory because he was there to an extent Anonicorn doesn't see anything amiss, but to regular ponies he's like an eldritch watcher who knows what they do and think better than they do >>42576126 That seems op, too much connection imo. Something like being able to talk to animals or the plants feels more grounded. Him being able to hear and see everything means luna and celestia would see more than him since their spheres have the better view >>42576218 Personally I think it works. Like, his domain is a bit more expansive because it's such a a complicated one compared to the Sun and Moon, the Earth is the home of all life after all. Abdunlike Celestia and Luna, Anon is always in his home turf. It also justifies why his banishment ended up being so much worse than Luna's, because he needed to be disconnected entirely to actually make it stick. It also evens out by the fact he was corrupted at all, Nature gives him a ton of power of the world, but simultaneously it also means he's vulnerable to any damage wrought on the world, it's a two way street in that regard, a double edged sword. Sure Discord wasn't actively trying to corrupt Anon the way he did, but that just makes it worse. If that could be done inadvertently, who knows what kind of damage could be caused by a truly malevolent like Grogar or Tirek. They wouldn't need to attack Anon directly to best him after all. >>42576218 it doesn't have to be literal or something stupid or constant like omniscience, just something his magic works with, like how Luna can see what everypony is dreaming about whenever she wants ~~~ This isnt anything. Yin yang for the sisters, triskellion for the 3 siblings https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1758/02/1758025800199.png >>42576429 He looks so profoundly unwell >>42576429 How changed do you think Prince Anon would be when he returned? Is his crash personality a complete departure from how he was originally, or was he like... a healthier version of a spaghetti-spilling weirdo? >>42577400 It would be a lot easier to just say he was a super cool stoic ruler and a great ruler before he got banished to a human life but I think we’d be doing him a disservice if we didn’t make him at least a little bit of an antisocial freak before he went nuts. Like he always had a little spark of humanity (aka being an asshole) in him even before he became human or something. Maybe his relationship with the sisters was already going sour even before he went nightmare because he was starting to think they were exerting too much control over the celestial bodies and upsetting the natural order or something ~ >This window was removed from the throne room a long time ago, it gathers dust in the royal vault now. wip, my wrist hurts, will do another one where he isnt a monster next https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1758/05/1758059233250.png ~ >>42577822 What was the family relationship like for the three of them? In the past Celestia was clearly aloof and didn't even notice Luna sinking into despair. >>42578210 I assume Anon butted heads with Celestia frequently. She'd be a big orderfag and I imagine he'd want more fluid authority and societal structures. His de facto death would probably accelerate Celestia and Luna's falling out >>42578210 >>42578508 >Anon was constantly at odds with and butting heads with Celestia >It's part of the reason he was so easily forgotten >What pony would want to record about the brotherly prince who so obstinantly went against the princess they all loved? >He'd push for more freedom and always be the first to voice issue with any new laws being passed >He hated the idea of nobility >That includes his title as Prince >It's one he's less accepted, and more one that has been thrust upon him >He gets along well with Luna though >Being the princess of the night and dreams, she understands the allure of freedom and often confides in Anon >The two are close >Then Discord strikes >The sisters are first forced to use the Elements against their brother >It was their intention to purify him of Discord's magic and then fight the Lord of Chaos as a family >They both thought Honesty and Loyalty would suit him best >Alas, when the smoke cleared, Anonicorn was gone >The two had to resort to using the elements as just a pair again against Discord >But the removal of his influence didn't return Anon to them >Thus began Luna's downfall >With the Prince's disappearence, ponies had to be gathered to keep the natural world working as best they could >Then, one day when returning from dreamwalking, she hears a noble daresay they are "better off without that ingrate questioning Celestia" >Luna has to be dragged off the beaten noble by Celestia, the only one strong enough to pry her away from her assault >That's their first argument >The castle shakes with the exchange of their voices >Slander is hurled, names are called, insults are made, curses are spat >The two storm away from each other >Celestia decides to give Luna space until she wants to talk again >Luna never wants to talk again >Eventually Celestia tries to break the silence >But by then it's too late >If there are to be two rulers, Nightmare Moon would rather rule with her brother >First, she just has to remove her sister >>42579019 >The alternate timeline Twilight travels to is much worse >Eternal night and Endless forest >>42579019 Imagine how earth shatteringly depressing that would be for Celestia. >>42577400 I'd say they should be completely different people with only the slightest similarities. The Prince was this large, nature loving, stoically parental figure who traveled the lands. Think a wise medicine man druid Gandalf. Meanwhile nuAnon is regular pony sized, softer looking, like comparing Twilight when she first ascended versus her mature design in tht final episode. Personality wise he's a typical Anon, a sarcastic asshole who's horribly out of his depths and quickly losing his patience with the two big horse royalty who are insisting they're related. Old Anon was majestic and moved with a fluid grace, nuAnon is skrungly looking, disheveled and clumsy on his hooves. Old Anon feasted on feasts of fruits and vegetables that would seemingly grow around him at a moments notice, nuAnon really wants some dino nuggies. Old Anon was a soft spoken, polite being with the eternal patience of a pony who can quite literally watch a flower grow at its normal pace and not lose interest, Anon has no patience and gets bored really fucking quick. etc etc etc. Maybe a couple really deep seated similarities, like the same heart of gold when the situation calls for it, and a love of animals. Maybe nuAnon owned one of those dollar store bonzai planets that almost never grow and actually got it healthy and fairly big, and he surprisingly enjoys taking care of it. Maybe he grew up with a bunch of pets in the house and they always seemed clingy with him. Stuff like that. >>42577822 That looks really fucking sick, you're really good at those dude. >>42577903 I disagree. While I think NuAnon should be the typical brash idiot Anon is. If he's like 95% different from old Anon, then Prince Anon wasn't banished, he was killed and the Anon that's around ISN'T their sibiling. >>42578060 Agree. If Old!Anon was nothing like Post-Humanity!Anon then there’d be no real point in even having them be the same person IMO. Old Prince Anon would have obviously been way more socially adjusted and likeable than NuAnon but there still needs to be that spark of antisocial smug asshole even if he used to be far better at reining it in >>42578087 I think Anon's smug and apathetic attitude suit him well to a being representative of nature in a certain aspect. There were once things in the past of great natural beauty but time passes, things die, and nature changes, sometimes for better sometimes for worse yet it adapts. But nature never consciously cares about the past or even the future. Evolution, selection, death and rebirth. If humanity manages to collapse the global ecosystem you could say that Nature managed to create its greatest achievement, a species powerful enough to eradicate Nature in totality. I would even say you could say it's solipsistic, everything is within nature. Would Anon be mad at Discord for his corruption? Or would he say this act was simply inevitable or just a part of the process? That's my philosophical ramble over. >>42579161 >Would Anon be mad at Discord for his corruption? Or would he say this act was simply inevitable or just a part of the process? >Discord gets reformed >For all his jokes, smug self-satisfaction, and relief to actually have a friend, there is something he admits to Fluttershy in confidence >He's scared- or rather, ashamed >Now that he knows better, he feels bad >About that whole business with Prince Anonymous >He can't imagine what sort of things the Nature Prince has planned for him now that he's given up his chaotic ways >When Celestia comes to check on Fluttershy' progress of Discord's reformation, she isn't alone >Her siblings accompany her >Luna, tired, but a fire in her eyes >Celestia, in a rare moment, is nervous, only a select few, her siblings, her student, and Discord notice the infinitesimally small shift in her stance and gaze >She's worried there will be fighting, despite her best efforts >Anon however, is the strangest of them all >He's smiling >Not in an "I'm imagining all the ways I'm going to hurt you" way, or in the "I just thought of a funny joke" way >It's small, soft, and above all, genuine >When Discord states he wants to give friendship a try, Anon is the first to accept the words >This throws both Luna and Celestia off >The former was expecting an uphill battle where she and Anon would argue for Discord's repetrification >The latter was expecting to accept first to try and start paving the way to an, at least uneasy, peace >Discord breifly allows himself a twinge of hope and dares to ask why Anon is so willing to forgive after what he did to him >Prince Anonymous merely laughs "Discord, it was always in your nature to do something like that, why on earth would I fault you, or expect anything different?" >Discord's hope turns to ice, and his heart sinks >Fluttershy shrinks behind her mane >Celestia balks >Luna's barely containing her laughter >The worst part is the lack of malice >There's no derisive sneer >No mocking snort >No sarcasm >It's all as genuine as the smile on his face >He simply sees Discord as another, albeit more chaotic, part of nature >And doesn't feel any animosity towards him for what he did >Because it was natural >Somehow that hurts Discord worse than the summoned Eveerfree creatures ineffectively trying tearing him apart he'd imagined >With a small bow, Anon gives congratulations to Fluttershy for her bravery, and to Discord for being chaotic as ever and surprising him by choosing friendship >Then, without another word, he flies off >Luna is quick to follow >It wasn't what she wanted, but it was good enough >Celestia mutters a weak apology before following her siblings >And Discord watches the pony he ruined fly away >Unburdened now as he was a thousand years ago >Yet Discord has never felt heavier ~~~ >"Dear Prince Anonymous.." It's no fault of yours, of course. But it pains me to see you like this, and I'm not sure which is worse, the pain of seeing you so different to what you were, or the pain of knowing that you can't remember. I know in your mind that I'm wrong, that I have you mistaken for somepony else. But I promise you, brother, I've checked. To ensure I wasn't going mad, I've done every spell I can (non-invasive ones, of course, promise), to be sure, and it is you. Your memories are gone, but not lost, you walk with your head so low. How many regrets and how much sadness did you collect while you were away from me and Luna? But for all the flaws you see in yourself that stops you from reaching out to us, I've never seen any of them, I look at you, and I don't see your mistakes. I see the brother who would wrestle me for the swing we both wanted when we were foals, who'd sneak cakes into Starswirl's lessons for me when I was grounded from having any, the brother who helped me build our kingdom and lead our ponies, the brother who'd be my shoulder to cry on when all the years of our lives were too heavy for me to bear. I don't expect you to be that brother again, you don't need to be. But I see so much pain in you, and I want to help. For so much of our lives that you've forgotten, you protected and cared for me, when I could do neither for myself. Please. Let me do the same for you now, if not for the brother who is gone from this world, but merely to help you come to terms with this new world. I know that little shack you've set up in the old castle is probably colder than you're willing to admit. My balcony doors will be open, and there will always be a fresh log for my fire if you do decide to visit. No plots, no tests, just call her over to the castle, have a frank discussion, give his own views on what Alicorn life is like, and give Twilight time to decide if she's amenable to ascending. After all, by then he'd had Luna, Cadence, Flurry Heart, presumably Celestia has popped back in by the lat seasons if not earlier. He has ponies who can keep things running if anything happened to him, or even if he just wants a vacation once in a while. At least that's my take on it. >>42628533 >The one big thing Anon could really give her is the honest choice >after a long, long, long, LONG talk about the book, ascenscion, and not letting her know that the entire world was just a cartoon, there's very little left to say "I'm not sure about Celestia and Luna. I think they're natual born alicorns, but I've never really been able to sit them down and talk about it." >"Those new alicorns? Well, yeah, I suppose there wouldn't be much about them" >That makes you chuckle, if nothing else, the novelty of Celestia and Luna being fresh and new to the story has been novel "My point is that there isn't a lot to go on, when it comes to alicorns. I don't know what happened to Cadance, she transformed before I could find her, and me, well- that damn tree-" >"Tree? D- do you mean the Tree of Harmony?" "Yeah, that stupid thing didn't ask my permission, it just decided to force these wings and this horn on me. I had a choice to either be the only alicorn to help ponies, or leave them behind. Not really a choice. But I don't want that for you." >You don't like the way she's looking at you >This is heavy >Heavier than she deserves to deal with >She should be out having another day with her friends >Not contemplating a magical evolution "I want to do this right with you, Twilight. I believe you have the potential to be a good alicorn. I won't accept an answer for real for a decade or two, I'm not gonna let you decide until I know you've really thought about it-" >"A decade seems a bit long to think about-" "This isn't some lesson, Twilight! This is immortality!" >Damn it >You just had to snap at her, didn't you dumbass? >Now she's got that look like she thinks she's done something wrong >You're not good with stress >You put out a wing and hoof and draw her close for a hug >She all but dives into it and clings to you >It's enough to let the tension of your thoughts finally melt away "Twilight. If I have any say in this, this won't be happening until you've had the life you deserve to live, one that's free, one where your friendships won't be burdened by this." >"It wouldn't-" "Twilight, I'm a thousand years old, there are three other alicorns in the world and I have one friend, and that's Discord. Aside from him, I have a sort-of daughter and you..." >You let the reality of your life sink into her "It's lonely, Twilight." >"But... we'd have each other, right?" >That makes you smile >Then it falls "But would that be enough..." >You can tell she wants to say 'yes' immediately, but the word dies on her lips >She's thinking >You wonder which friend is on her mind. Rarity? Fluttershy? Rainbow Dash? Applejack? Pinkie Pie? All of them? "If you did this- and it's a big if. You'd spend a few decades with me learning everything. How to deal with court, what's different about being an alicorn, everything. I'd prepare you for this. But there'd never be any 'point of no return'. If at any time you decided you wanted to stop. We'd stop." >>42629122 >She clearly wants to respond, but you can tell her thoughts are weighing down her voice "I don't want you to think I don't want you to be an alicorn, Twilight. I think you'd make a great one, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want another one around. But I need to make sure you have as few regrets as possible." >She's always been good at dissecting information >Alreadys she's pieced apart your words and recognized that you said "as few regrets as possible" rather than "no regrets" >She's quiet for a while >Then she's quiet for a long time >Nearly half an hour passes in silence >But you don't shift >You keep her held close to you >And she never moves her head from laying against your chest >Listening to your heartbeat >An engine of eternity >Then, slowly, she looks up at you >"Would you become one?" >It's not a surprising question >And it was inevitable she'd ask you >For some reason she thinks you've got it all together >"Knowing everything you did now, if you were offered the chance to become an alicorn by the Tree, would you?" "No." >You're not sure what surprised her more >How you answered her immediately >Or the fact you've started crying ~~~ >The bells of Canterlot faded, their echoes swallowed by the stone corridors. >Sunset Shimmer lingered in the High Study long after her lessons ended, pretending to reread her notes. >Across the room, her teacher bent over the desk, his magic lifting scroll after scroll with effortless precision. >Anonymous or Prince Anonymous to the many. >wore the crown of Equestria as though it weighed nothing. But she had glimpsed the truth once, in a slip of weariness that still haunted her. >A king, not a god. A stallion, not a star. >It had unsettled her at first. Then it had rooted inside her, stubborn as ivy. >The days bled into weeks. >Their lessons continued as always: magical theory, practice, discourse. Anon’s voice never rose, never faltered, steady as the mountains. >Sunset began to notice things she had never allowed herself to before. >The way his mane caught the lamplight when he leaned close to correct her script. The rare chuckle that slipped through his usual sternness, quick as lightning and gone just as fast. >Even the way he smiled when Cadance’s name came up in correspondence—soft, distant, as if a father receiving a letter from his child. >He never noticed her stolen glances. Why would he? To him, she was a bright student, another mind to guide, another fire to shape into warmth for Equestria’s future. >Nothing more. >But it crept in slowly, like light through old stained glass, warm, shifting, hard to name. She told herself it was still ambition, reverence. >But ambition had never made her heart stutter when he stepped close. >Reverence had never left her craving his laughter. Whatever it was, it had taken root. >Not a hunger for crowns anymore. Something smaller. Closer. >>42642553 >She began to linger after lessons, inventing reasons. A tome too heavy to carry alone. A question about ley lines that needed diagrams, not words. >Sometimes, she only pretended to fumble, just to see if he would steady her hoof with his own. He always did—brief, gentle, unthinking touches that set her aflame. >Yet every kindness felt like a blade. His hoof would withdraw. His eyes would turn back to parchment. >And Sunset would be left smiling too brightly, terrified he might glimpse the truth. >Months passed. The city whispered of festivals and harvests; armies of quills marched across endless decrees. To Sunset, the world shrank to one chamber, one voice, one impossible hope. >She buried herself in study, desperate to prove her worth. >After mastering a spell weeks ahead of schedule, she eagerly anticipated praise from her teacher, holding onto the hope of hearing the words she longed for. >However, he simply smiled at her, a warm and proud expression, but one that felt more like the acknowledgment given to a student than the adoration she craved. >She told herself it was enough. It had to be. Better to be at his side in any role than cast adrift in exile. >And yet, when the lamps dimmed and the castle settled into silence, Sunset lay awake in her chambers, replaying every glance, every word, chasing meaning where none existed. >Her ambition once clawed at the heavens. Now it clawed at the heart of the one pony she could never truly claim. >>42642599 >The breaking point came on a rain-slicked evening. Lessons ran late, the windows trembling in the wind. Anon finally pushed the last scroll aside, fatigue visible in every line of his face. “That’s enough for tonight,” he said, gathering his notes. “Get some rest, Sunset. Tomorrow will be—” >She moved before he could finish, placing a hoof on his chest, stopping him from leaving. Her breath came quick, her eyes burning. “Why can’t you see it?” > She whispered. “I don’t want rest. I don’t want more lessons. I want you.” >The silence cracked like thunder. Anon froze, wings shifting in discomfort. Slowly, he removed her hoof with a gentle touch that hurt more than any rebuke. “Sunset,” he said, >voice calm but heavy, “you’re tired. You don’t know what you’re saying.” >But she did. She knew it with every frantic beat of her heart. She leaned closer, desperate, words spilling out like fire through dry grass. “We could rule together. You wouldn’t be alone anymore. I’d take the burdens, the sleepless nights, everything. Just—just let me stand with you.” >For a moment, pain flickered in his eyes. Then he shook his head, firm. “You are my student, Sunset." Nothing less, nothing more. Don’t throw away what you’ve built chasing shadows.” >Her throat tightened. She wanted to scream, to demand, to make him understand. Instead, she stood trembling as he stepped past her, the door opening with a soft creak. His voice, steady as ever, carried back to her: “Go to bed, Sunset.” >And then he was gone, leaving her alone with the storm, her heart a tangle of fury, longing, and fragile hope that refused to die. Imagine sunset stumbling into some secret 'war-room' and finding out exactly how much Prince Anon knows >>42644887 >from the brief moment she had been in that room, one thing wouldn't leave her mind not matter what >a tome with her cutie mark on the cover >>42644887 >>42645243 >The castle was quieter than usual that evening. Sunset could tell by the way her hoofsteps echoed a thin, hollow sound that made her want to lift them lighter, >softer, as if even the marble wished for her to be silent. >She wasn’t sneaking, not really. The Prince had dismissed lessons early after some meeting had run late, >and curiosity, that old, bright ache that had always gotten her into trouble, had led her wandering through a >part of the castle she didn’t remember studying in before. >The west wing, she thought. Or maybe the north? The corridors wound and mirrored one another until she wasn’t sure anymore. >Most doors here were plain old oak, sealed by Magic she could sense but not name. Yet one stood ajar. >Barely >A hairline of gold light seeped from beneath it, pooling faintly across the floor. It wasn’t bright, just wrong, like candlelight seen through water. >Sunset’s horn tingled. >An unease washed over her, a prelude to the decisions that might haunt her later. She turned to glance back down the vacant hallway, its emptiness echoing her uncertainty. >Heart racing, she nudged the door open. >The hinges didn’t just creak; they released a weary sigh, as if burdened by the weight of countless stories locked behind the door. >Cold air breathed out at her, dry and ancient, smelling faintly of dust and oil and something sharp, Paper perhaps, or old magic that hadn’t been disturbed in centuries. >The room beyond wasn’t large, but it felt densely packed. Shelves lined the walls, overflowing with scrolls, tools, and half-finished enchantments sealed in glass spheres. >Boxes marked with strange symbols were scattered throughout, along with journals stacked in uneven piles. But in the center of the room stood a single table, where a lamp burned low and steady, even though no one was there to tend to it. >Sunset stepped inside, one hoof at a time. >Her magic brushed across the air, testing for alarms, only to find none. >The Magic here was old, faint, maybe forgotten. >She swallowed. >Forgotten, but not empty. >On the table lay a scattered array of parchments, each inscribed with intricate diagrams featuring concentric circles that seemed to spiral endlessly into one another. >alongside magical formulae that danced tantalizingly beyond her comprehension at a mere glance. Yet, it was the book beside them that truly captivated her attention. >Its imposing size commanded the space, bound in rich, dark red leather that exuded a faint aroma of parchment and secrets held. >The spine was adorned with delicate, albeit worn, gold trimming that glinted softly in the dim light of the room. At first glance, >it appeared unremarkable, but the clasp hung loosely, unlatched, as if inviting her to uncover the mysteries that lay within its pages. >Her hoof hesitated above it. >But then she saw it >A sun, two tones of flame intertwined >It was Her Mark >She froze. >>42645722 >For what felt like an eternity, she remained frozen in place, her breath caught in her chest as she stared in disbelief. >The mark was engraved with exquisite precision, every nuance captured down to the tiniest detail. >It wasn’t merely similar; it was unmistakably her cutie mark, imprinted deeply into the cover as if carved by the hands of a master artisan. > As she gently brushed her hoof against the surface, she could feel the intricate ridges and grooves beneath her touch, each one evoking a wave of memories. >There was no logical explanation for its existence, none whatsoever. >The room around her was steeped in a sense of age, the air thick with the dust of forgotten years, yet this singular mark belonged to her, as if it had been waiting for her to discover it all along. >She should have felt suspicious, but instead, warmth blossomed in her chest, accompanied by that dizzying, impossible hope she always tried to suppress. A book like this, tucked away and hidden, had to signify something....something meant for her. Perhaps it was a gift, a secret lesson, or even a sign that he... >She opened it. >The pages smelled of smoke and long-dried ink. >Inside, neat lines of script filled every margin, dense and meticulous. >A few notes written in his hoof writing she’d memorized the tilt of it from all her graded essays, annotated old spells, and unfinished theories. >He had made this. >And the thought that he’d made it for her alone stole the air from her lungs. >>42647056 >But the further she turned the pages, the less it resembled a textbook. >The neat structure unraveled into uneven scrawl, thoughts pressed hard into the parchment, their rhythm >breaking and faltering like a pulse under strain. >Her eyes followed the handwriting as though she were trespassing into his mind. It’s not matching anymore. I keep replaying how things were supposed to go: the lessons, the arguments, the mirror. The point where she's supposed to leave. But she hasn’t. She’s still here. Still smiling. Still asking questions she shouldn’t care about. I thought I was keeping close enough to the script, but something’s off. >Her stomach tightened. The script? Maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m too soft with her. I keep catching myself before I say the things that would push her away. She was harsher. Colder. But this Sunset laughs when I correct her. She tries again. She wants me to be proud of her. >Her breath hitched. >He was proud. >He’d written it down. >Her chest warmed as she read on. I know what’s supposed to happen. She has to break. She has to run. That’s what shapes her. If she doesn’t, what does she become instead? I keep telling myself it’s fine. A small deviation. But every day that she stays, every time she smiles, I feel like it's bending further. The story isn’t holding shape anymore. >Sunset’s heart beating in her chest, her mind tripping over the words. >Story? Script? It made no sense, but the tone underneath it was unmistakable. >He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t disappointed. He was worried...Worried about her. Maybe I should’ve tempted her when she asked about the mirror. Maybe I should’ve been cruel enough to make her hate me. That’s how it’s supposed to happen. But I couldn’t. Not after the way she looked at me that night. >The candlelight trembled. The ink shimmered faintly in the glow. But if she never leaves.... >>42647336 “Sunset.” >Hearing her name made her freeze in fear. >The tome slammed shut under a pulse of green magic before she even looked up. The air hummed, heavy with the echo of the spell. >Prince Anonymous stood framed in the doorway. >His mane shimmered faintly with the glow of his horn. >He didn’t look angry, just weary, as though he’d been >expecting this to happen. “That isn’t for you,” he said. >She stepped back, heart hammering. “I...I didn’t mean to! It has my mark on it, a..and...” >Her voice faltered. “You wrote about me.” >He came forward, each step deliberate, quiet. >His magic reached for the tome, drawing it to him. “You shouldn’t have read that.” “But…” she whispered, “You wrote that you didn’t want me to leave. That I make you proud. If that’s what you really feel, you don’t have to hide it.” >He paused, eyes flickering toward her for a single, fragile second. “That’s not what I meant.” “Then what did you mean by that?” >She pressed, her tone a gentle yet unwavering insistence. “What was the purpose of writing it at all?” >He paused, the silence stretching as he struggled to articulate his thoughts. “Because I believe I broke something,” he admitted, his voice laced with a deep sense of sorrow. “And I honestly don’t know how to mend it.” >The weight of his tone silenced her. >He didn’t sound like a ruler. Or a teacher. >He sounded like somepony confessing a Mistake. >He took the tome in his magic, tucking it beneath his wing, and looked toward the open door. “Please, Sunset. Don’t come back here.” >Her voice came out small. “You talk like I’m… wrong.” >He stopped, glanced back, no anger in his eyes, only grief. “No. Just… different.” >Then he was gone. The door closed softly behind him. >That night, she couldn’t sleep. The words replayed in her mind, curling like smoke across the ceiling. "She wants me to be proud of her." "If she never leaves" "I think I broke something." >She turned the phrases over and over, letting them melt into one another until their edges blurred. >He hadn’t written like a teacher worrying over a student, not really. >The words trembled, hesitant, personal. >Like somepony afraid of how much they cared. >He thought he’d broken something, but wasn’t that what love did? >It changed you. It made you say the wrong things, hold on too long, and hesitate when you should let go. >Maybe he just didn’t know how to name it. >Maybe “broken” was his way of saying moved. >He was proud of her. >He’d admitted it, even if he thought no one would ever read it. >And he couldn’t push her away — because somewhere beneath all that calm and restraint, he didn’t want to. >A quiet smile tugged at her mouth. >He could call it a mistake if it made him feel safer. >She knew better. >He was afraid of his own heart. >>42647436 >The Morning After >Sunlight spilled across the corridors, warming the marble until it glowed faintly. >For a moment, the castle sounded exactly as it always had, quills scratching, distant hoofsteps, the armor of guards rattling down the halls. Sunset almost convinced herself that nothing had changed. >She found him in the dining hall, seated at the long oak table near the window. >The morning light traced the edge of his mane, turning the air around him gold. A pot of tea steamed between them, untouched. Two cups, as always. >He’d already poured hers. “Good morning, Sunset," he said calmly. “You’re up early.” >Sunset paused in the doorway before responding, trying to detect any change in his tone, any sign that he recalled the events of the night before. “Morning,” >She said lightly, slipping into her seat. “Couldn’t sleep.” >He nodded once, eyes still on the tea as he poured himself a careful stream into his cup. “I trust your studies didn’t keep you awake.” >The question was harmless, but it landed strangely. He knew exactly why she hadn’t slept. >She smiled anyway. “Something like that.” >He gave no reaction. Just adding a spoonful of sugar to his tea, he stirred once and set the spoon down with meticulous quiet. Every >movement was deliberate...too deliberate. “So,” she tried again, “what’s the plan for today?” “The usual,” he said. “Review your spellwork, then a theory session before Midday Court.” >His words were steady, perfectly routine. >But she noticed the way he kept his gaze just a little off from hers, how his shoulders stayed too straight, too still. >The composure only made her more certain of what she’d decided in the sleepless hours of dawn. >He was hiding it. >Whatever he felt, whatever he’d written was still there, pressed beneath all that careful calm. >When she laughed softly at the recollection, his eyes flicked to hers, quick, startled, before returning to his tea. >Her pulse quickened. "Got you," >She thought. >>42650226 >The tiniest break in his stillness was enough. >They ate in a kind of fragile politeness. >He inquired about her studies, his voice carrying an earnest curiosity as he probed into her focus and aspirations for the week ahead. >Each question was articulated with the precision of a devoted teacher, yet to her ears, they resonated like a lingering melody, each word >an invitation that seemed to weave a thread between them, drawing out the warmth of her voice as if he savored every syllable. >She caught herself smiling between answers, her words warmer, her tone teasing. >And every time, he retreated an inch further behind that quiet composure, like a stallion afraid of waking something fragile. >When breakfast ended, he stood and gathered the dishes himself. Something he never did. “Take the morning off,” >he said. “ You’ve earned it.” >She blinked. “Really?” >He nodded, polite, unreadable. “Rest. You’ve been working hard.” >It was such a small kindness, but to her, it felt charged, an act of affection wrapped in discipline. >He couldn’t admit it openly, not yet. Not after what she’d seen. >As he turned to leave, she lingered at the table, watching the play of light against his mane, the steadiness in his step. >So calm. So careful. >It only convinced her further. >He was trying to act normal, to hide his feelings, to pretend nothing had changed. >But she could see the truth now, every pause, every half-smile, every gentle word that avoided her eyes. >He was in love with her. >He just didn’t know it was safe to say so. >>42650235 >The next few mornings unfolded like copies of one another, tea cooling on the >table, the scrape of quills in adjoining rooms, and the low hum of magic through >the halls. >Anon never mentioned the night she’d found the tome. >never mentioned anything at all beyond the bare necessities of lessons and >schedules. >If she hadn’t known better, she might have believed he’d simply forgotten. >But she knew better. >Every day, his distance widened a little more. >He began sending scrolls to her quarters instead of delivering them himself. >His notes were brief, stripped of warmth: Redo last Spell Formula. Do not adjust the focus parameters. Make an Aquantice. >No sign-offs, no comments on her progress, none of the small compliments he’d used to give. >When they did meet, he spoke softly but never long, his eyes moving over diagrams instead of her face. >It was as though he were tracing invisible cracks only he could see. >Sunset tried to fill the silence with brightness. >She smiled wider, lingered longer. >She asked him questions that didn’t need answers, teasing ones, small ones, anything to coax him back into the >warmth she remembered. >Each time, he would smile faintly, say something polite, and then change the subject. >To her, that restraint was proof. >He wasn’t cold; he just was afraid. >Afraid of what he felt. >Afraid of being caught. >>42652405 >One evening, she wandered into the library after dinner and found the lights still burning. >Anon was at the far table, surrounded by open books. >Diagrams of runes and mirrored circles stretched across the pages, lines scrawled through them like >scars. >She recognized a word repeated again and again in the margins: realignment. >He didn’t hear her at first. His lips moved silently, tracing calculations in the air. >When she cleared her throat, he startled just slightly and closed the nearest book too quickly. “Sunset,” >he said. “You’re supposed to be resting.” "You’re working late again,” >She said. “You haven’t been sleeping.” “I’m fine.” >The answer came too fast. >She stepped closer. “You’re still trying to fix whatever you think you broke, aren’t you?” >He turned away. “Go get some rest.” >The gentle finality in his tone left no room to argue. >She watched him for a moment longer, the slump of his shoulders, the strain at the corners of his eyes, >She smiled softly. “You don’t have to hide it from me,” >she said, voice barely above a whisper. >He didn’t answer. >She left him there, his quill scratching faintly in the dark. >Whispers began circulating among the staff a few days later. >They were small things, snips of conversation caught in corridors, pauses when she entered a room. >Two attendants in the royal garden fell abruptly silent when she approached. One of the stewards stepped >forward and asked, as gently as he could manage, if she and Prince were “quarreling.” “Quarreling?” > She repeated, blinking. “Well,” > The gardener said, shifting his weight, “It’s just… he seems quieter lately. Distracted. We were only worried you might’ve....” >Sunset laughed, heat rushing to her cheeks. “Oh. Oh, no, it’s not that.” >She waved a hoof, trying to sound casual. “He’s just… processing some things. About me.” >The other Garderner tilted his head. “About you?” Her blush deepened. “It’s complicated. He’s very… proper about these things.” Realization dawned across both the gardener's faces, followed by a flush nearly as deep as hers. >“I see. Well. Say no more, miss.” >She hurried off before they could ask anything else, her heart fluttering in her chest. >Let them talk. Let them guess. >They were right, in their own way. >He was distracted because of her. >He was struggling. >Every avoidance, every half-glance, every late night in the library, it was all because he cared more than he should. >That night, from the window of her chambers, she saw the faint green glow of magic pulsing in the western >wing again the same wing where she’d first found the tome. >He was still trying to fix something. >And she, smiling softly to herself at her mirror, told her reflection, “He doesn’t need to fix anything. Not anymore.” >>42652455 >At first, it started small, things he told himself he imagined. >A steward lingering too long after delivering a report, eyes darting between him and Sunset. > Guards at the courtyard gate stiffened when she walked beside him. >The faintest, knowing smiles exchanged behind half-closed doors. >Anon ignored them at first. The castle was full of whispers, always had been politics, rumors, superstition. None of it mattered. >But as the days passed, the atmosphere changed. >It was in the way servants spoke carefully when he entered a room. >The way they looked past him instead of at him. >Even the air itself felt different, heavy with the static of unspoken thoughts. >One afternoon, during their lesson, Sunset laughed genuinely, brightly at some half-joke he hadn’t even realized he’d made. >The sound carried through the hall, golden and alive. >But when he glanced toward the doorway, he caught two attendants standing there, wide-eyed, then hastily bowing as they disappeared around the corner. >He pretended not to notice. But his quill stilled in the air. >That night, he walked the halls later than usual, trying to clear his head. >He told himself it was fine. The castle was large; gossip was inevitable. The murmurs were nothing more than boredom dressed as curiosity. >Still, as he passed the staff wing, a hush fell that wasn’t normal silence; it was expectant, like the pause between verses in a song. >He thought he caught his name whispered once, then her name after it, quickly shushed. >The next morning, the kitchen fell silent when he entered. >The cooks bowed, too deeply this time, one of them dropping a ladle in the rush to look busy. >He didn’t ask why. He couldn’t. >Something had gone wrong. The story had slipped further than he realized. >But it wasn't until dusk on the fourth day, he heard the truth. >He was walking back from the archives when he caught the sound of voices, faint, lilting from the laundry room just ahead. >He might have kept walking, had not one phrase drifted clearly through the open door. >>42652645 “It’s like something out of a fairytale.” >He stopped. The voices were low, hushed, threaded with the giddy rhythm of confession. “You should’ve seen her this morning, she was glowing, absolutely glowing.” >“Because of him?” “Who else? She’s the only one he smiles at. And he’s never smiled at anypony, not like that.” “That’s” a stifled laugh, “that’s practically scandalous.” “I know, but listen when he looks at her, it’s not wrong. It’s…I don’t know. It’s tragic. Like he’s afraid to touch her." "Because he would be committing a taboo?” “You make it sound like one of those old stories.” “But doesn’t it feel like one? The lonely king, the gifted student, fate trying to keep them apart...” “And she’s the one who changes him,” The other whispered, dreamily. “Who teaches him how to love?” “Shh! Don’t say that out loud.” “Why not? It’s beautiful.” “Because if anyone heard…” >A pause, a nervous giggle. “It’s not proper.” “No. But it’s the kind of love that ruins everything. The kind they write poems about.” >Their laughter was soft, conspiratorial, and it hit him like a physical blow. >The air felt thin. The walls, too close. >Anon turned away, his heart hammering. He barely noticed that his hooves were trembling. >He couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. >Love that ruins everything. >That was what they saw now, not a teacher, not a student, not the divergence he’d tried so carefully to hide. >They saw romance. They saw fate. >He stumbled back to his study, the words chasing him down every corridor. >Sunset’s laughter. The staff’s whispers. The castle’s strange, dreamlike calm, all of it a symptom. >It wasn’t just her anymore. The story itself was bending around them, reshaping itself into something else. >It was Wrong >By the time he reached his desk, panic had already turned to resolve. >His horn ignited, scrolls unfurled, and old Books scattered across the floor. >He tore through the notes he’d sworn never to touch again, the ones that still smelled faintly of Ink and regret. >He was shaking. He didn’t care. >He could still fix this. He had to. >Before this story changed any further. >He didn’t notice the shadow lingering in the doorway, Sunset, eyes wide, watching silently as he gathered his >tools, as the air around him thickened with green light. >and when he began to quickly run towards the same wing where she’d first found the tome the she followed without a sound. >>42652718 >Anon moved like a stallion possessed. >Green light gathered at his horn, spilling across the stone in nervous, uneven patterns. >Parchment tore beneath his magic, sigils flared and faded, ink hissed against the air as if it burned. >He told himself not to look at the mirror until the sequence was complete, but its presence filled the room long before he reached it. >He could feel the hum through the floor, the pulse of magic trying to find its rhythm again. >It sounded like a heartbeat that wasn’t his. >He whispered the final alignment, the one word that would re-thread the story. >Behind him, the faintest shuffle of hooves. >Sunset had followed the sound of his steps through the empty corridors, past the guards that now barred the old wing. > The door he left ajar drew her further in, the glow ahead beckoning like a promise. >Whatever he was doing, it was about her; she was certain of it. >This was what all his secrecy had been leading toward. >When she reached the threshold, the sight stopped her breath. >The chamber was dim except for the light that bled from the only object in the room. >the mirror. >It shimmered like water under moonlight, rippling softly like water. >The air was charged with the faint taste of metal, the hum of magic building until it pressed against her ribs. >Anon stood before it, shoulders rigid, horn faintly aglow as magic spun across the glass. >Sweat beaded along his jaw, catching the light like fragments of starlight. >The sound of her hoofsteps echoed through the chamber, each one pulling his breath tighter. >He didn’t move. “My Prince” >she said, her voice low, steady. >He froze. “You shouldn’t be here.” >Her steps carried her closer, slow, deliberate. “Then why didn’t you lock the door?” >He let out a tired sigh, half resignation, half defeat. “That still doesn't mean that you should have entered.” >>42652750 “Of course I would,” >she murmured, stopping beside him. As the mirror’s glow wraps around her, “You’ve been hiding this.” >He turned his head slightly, eyes shadowed. “I was trying to finish it before you found it.” Her gaze flicked to the mirror’s surface. The magic pulsed like a heartbeat. “What is it?” “An ending,” >He said quietly. Almost gently. >The words hit her like a spark in dry grass. “An ending?” >She repeated. “You’re sending me away.” >He didn’t answer. “That’s it, isn’t it?” >Her voice trembled now, the disbelief sharpening into pain. “After everything after us, you’re just going to end it?” >Finally, he turned to face her. His eyes caught the light, raw and unguarded. “Sunset… there is no us.” >The words landed like a spell breaking. >She stepped back, shaking her head. “You don’t mean that.” “I do.” “Then why do you look like you’re breaking?” >Her voice cracked. “If this isn’t love, why do you look like you’re about to fall apart?” >He looked down. “Because I am.” >The mirror pulsed again, brighter now, as if answering the tension between them. >Light climbed the walls, crawling up the ceiling, turning the air into glass. >>42652813 “I still remember what you wrote.” >She whispered, tears glinting along her lashes. “You said I changed everything. You said the story was bending. You said you were proud.” “I was,” >He said softly. “And I ruined it by caring too much.” “Caring too much?” >she repeated, a laugh trembling at the edge of a sob. “You call it ruin. I call it love.” >He closed his eyes. His composure cracked voice rising for the first time. “No, Sunset. It’s guilt!” >The word echoed against the stone, sharp enough to sting. >The mirror’s glow flickered, reacting to the surge in his voice. >He took a step forward, breath unsteady. “I changed something I wasn’t supposed to! You were meant to leave, to choose to leave! because I pushed you to! Because that’s how your story goes, Sunset. But I broke it.” >She blinked, not understanding. “What story?” >He laughed under his breath, a sound more like breaking. "None of this was supposed to be like this. You weren’t supposed to stay. You weren’t supposed to look at me like that.” >She stared at him, the words twisting into meaning of her own making. “So you do see it,” > She whispered. “You do feel it. You just can’t admit it.” “Sunset, listen,” >He reached for her hoof. “You have to go through the mirror. It’s the only way to fix this.” >She pulled her hoof back, tears spilling freely now, but her voice was calm, almost serene. “So this is a test.” “It’s not a test.” “Of course it is,” >she said, smiling through the tears. “You want to see if I’ll do it. If I step through. If I prove that I’m worthy of you.” >>42652839 “Stop,” >he said, his voice breaking. “It’s not about worth, it’s about...” >But she wasn’t listening. >The mirror’s light glowed against her face, turning her tears to liquid fire. “You’ve been preparing me for this all along,” She whispered. “Every lesson, every word, every kindness. You did this for me.” >He shook his head, desperate now. “I did it to put things back the way they were meant to be!” >She stepped closer to the glass. “Then I’ll make it right for both of us.” “Sunset!” He reached for her, voice raw. “Please.” >She stopped just short of the mirror and turned back to him, her eyes shining with everything she wanted to believe. “You’ll see,” > She whispered. “I’ll make you proud.” He lunged forward, his hoof almost touching hers. “Please, don’t” >She looked at him for one long, aching heartbeat, seeing everything she wanted and nothing that was truly there. >Then she turned toward the mirror. >The light flared. >Her hoof touched the surface. >It rippled, alive, a curtain of water and fire that swallowed her reflection. >He called her name, once, twice, the last time barely a whisper >And then she was gone. >The chamber fell still. >The light of the mirror flickered, dimmed, and died. >Only the faint smell of magic and dust remained. >Anon stood there, the echo of her name still trembling in the air. >He lowered his hoof, eyes fixed on the mirror’s still surface. “She was supposed to hate me,” >he said, the words barely audible. “She was supposed to hate me… and leave.” >The reflection didn’t answer. >Only the mirror remained cold, perfect, and finally back on course. >And emptier for it. ~~~ https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1755/96/1755969312138.png >The column of light dissipated down into the stallion, his mane shooting up and changing colour along with his eyes >The scream faded he snapped his head down to the quivering dragonling in front of him >"Spike listen very carefully you must leave this place now and take Shining with you!" >Spike gawked at him, provoking a growl of irritation from the pony >"THIS IS THE LAST TIME I'M GOING TO TELL YOU GET OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW SPIKE!" >Scrambling Spike rushed over to Shining armour's form and hoisted him on his shoulder to carry him off >Lightning cracked in the sky as Anon looked over his withers at Grogar >The Emperor still stood stunned atop the cliff looking down at his enemy https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/mlp/image/1761/30/1761306699144.png KidAnon >>42718600 that face is the perfect personification of "I don't want to be here" >become magic horse >no wings >no magic >world's fucked >somehow you have to fix it >your only friend is an asshole >"it's like I never left earth".jpg >>42718600 12 episode mini series where anon and discord have to find a way to bring celestia back while fixing problems along the way only for anon to end up ascending to alicornhood. >>42718927 >It's referenced multiple times that Anon is meant to find the Alicorn that will lead the kingdom in an age of prosperity. >Entire adventure was to save Equestria from collapse by finding Celestia, because obviously that's what it means >Big twist where he becomes the Alicorn in the prophecy. This is how I would explain NatureAnon's stasis-life. >Through of the Power of Plot Contrivances, Annon's stasis was neither perfect nor absolute >This is why he "matured" physically rather than stay very coltish upon his return >Harmony needed to perform a careful restructuring of Annon's mind after Discord's chaos ravaged it >And because of this imperfect stasis, Annon has an unconscious level of awareness of being, meaning his mind is susceptible to both maturation and stagnation >However, his being "outside" Equestria means his little stasis bubble is close enough to other spheres of influence for them affect him just enough and change his perception of himself >This is convenient for Harmony, being able to repair Annon enough while his mind can dream of living his life and rekindle his personality >Obviously this will backfire, but Harmony is a fundamental concept, not a being so all it's really doing is bringing balance back to one of its creations >It doesn't really "know" that Annon's balance is different to what it was before because of these influences >The cartoon is a sign of Annon's stasis weakening, that he's becoming more aware of the world he came from >No mention of him, because why would it? It's not real to him and he has no memories of ever living there >His mind just blanks out the parts where it might've come up offhand >His sisters (Celestia mainly) sheltered Annon from any official regnal duties when he was "alive", so it was never strictly necessary for him to write his name down >All he knows is what his name sounds like, vaguely, but it sounds weird to him at first when it's all he knows >Basically the effect of repetition of a word making it feel like it isn't a word anymore >His brain then made the logical leap of "Annon is a strange pronunciation of Anon, which is an abbreviation of Anonymous, so that must be my actual name because it sounds better." >His 4chan equivalent is the vehicle for Harmony imposing some form of order upon the lingering chaos in his mind >tfw he realises Dead Internet Theory was real all along because it was just Annon screeching at himself for all that time >>42850231 I think I prefer the version where NatureAnon really did get banished to Humanworld by the Elements rather than all of his human life being some kind of hallucination. I think it’d be a little bit too fucked up if he was pushing away his family because he was still clinging on to an identity that was never even real (I also think we should save all the misery and angst for Celestia because it’s funny) ~~~ >Anon must travel up the mountain what does he find up there? >>42796185 his own corpse >>42796307 The Beast is so big that its bones became a mountain when it was slain. >>42797560 >monster's corpse vast enough to form a landscape feature I can dig it sibling timeline lore >Luna has a custom made plushie of Anon. It smells like Pine and has a 'hug' enchantment built in. >Celestia dedicated two segments of the royal vault to each of her siblings preserving everything from their clothes and diaries to tapestries, portraits, literature and stained-glass of them. >There's a magically hidden area in the royal gardens accessed by taking a weird turn in the hedge maze, inside is a moon dial, a grove of trees and a statue of both lost royals. Celestia, before Luna's return, would sometimes spend her night wrapped around the statue as she slept. >Without the earth Alicorn to manage the weather Pegasi had to form their tradition of weather management in his stead. >The Breezies ferry spores, pollen and seeds across Equestria as a traditional rite of payment to the lost prince who they claim created their hidden home for them. >While his magic alone would be useful if he was on their side Discord wasn't released solely for that, Celestia wanted to see if he could undo what he did that caused Anon's corruption in the first place. >The bones of The Beast exist in the darkest and most hostile zone of a cursed forest. When the sisters faced it the elements scoured the beast till it was nothing more than blackened, twisted bones. >In reality Anon's body was torn apart, what wasn't wholly corrupted was sent into the void or a pocket dimension maintained by Harmony to heal. >Star Swirl dismissed Anon due to his weaker magic than his sisters and more nebulous role as an Alicorn, "He's younger and his role can easily be filled by the tribes." >Sadly Star Swirl has been proven somewhat right, even without the Alicorn to manage the warped natural world, Equestria gets on largely fine. Though Star Swirl didn't understand at the time what exactly the youngest alicorn was supposed to do. >Anon had a huge crush on Princess Amore. >Just as Celestia had a pet phoenix, Anon had a pet cat. the position of royal mouser was implemented to give his cat a rank and is carried on into today. >Anon's role wasn't to constantly manage 'nature' like Luna and Celestia do the sun & moon rather his role was the stabilise it, bring the world back into balance instead with his death nature was wrecked. >Outside of Equestria the weather is chaotic and violent, within Equestria it functionally doesn't work unless managed by ponies manually >>42831741 >Outside of Equestria the weather is chaotic and violent >NatureAnon goes globe trotting (heh) to fight the most out of control weather that have essentially become self-sustaining natural disasters >It's a good work out for his body and magic and gives him time to process how the world has changed and come to terms with being a part of the royal court again and how best to approach it >tfw you had to kill your baby brother >tfw his skeleton embedded into the earth and became one of the most cursed locations in the country >tfw you fucked up again with your little sister >tfw you put her in solitary confinement for a millennium >tfw little sister comes back and starts self-harming with a dream demon and is twice as autistic as last time >tfw baby brother comes back too but he looks off, doesn't remember you and complains his bones hurt alot >tfw he ditches the both of you Celly had a hard life ~~~ If natureAnons monster bones are a place you can visit surely theres been multiple times where someone has tried to steal or harvest the bones for their own purposes. Whenever the monster is brought up i imagine it was using dark magic rather than alicorn or chaos magic since the monster anon would have been horribly unstable right >>42862161 I imagine the sheer hostility and danger that surrounds The Beast's corpse makes it very difficult to find and harvest it for necromantic materials. That said, if someone was brave, and foolish, and lucky enough to acquire such artifacts... if the Sisters (or Sister, depending on the point in time) found out what they were fueling their spells with, I think they would find themselves very soon praying for death. >>42862170 Beast bones could be extremely volatile but potent amplifiers for dark magic, but if you handle them poorly it can very easily backfire and corrupt you. Maybe BB misuse is how you get wendigo type dudes or skyrim type nutjob wizards hiding out in the woods. Actually now that I think about it something Annon owned or the bones could be a good origin for the alicorn amulet >>42862321 >nature anon gets sick of being pestered and fucks off to the woods to become a Bone Wizard without realizing he’s doing mad science on his own corpse >>42862321 >celestia and luna try stopping anon from going to his own skeleton >"It's my corpse, I get to do what I want with my own bones! I'm gonna make a sick as hell staff!" ~~~ >Natureanon leaves his neet den in the everfree for the first time in months >feels magic fuckery >teleports over to see what all of the hubbub is all about >pops in just as cozy glow and co are getting petrified >goes on a massive rant at discord, celestia, luna and the communist about how turning a literal child into stone is the most insane punishment he's seen >when told what she did he still insists that she doesn't deserve to be petrified and offers to take the little sociopath under his wing (heh) to try and "reform" her >>42862976 "Brother please she has to be punished." >Eyes closed the emerald alicorn nodded sagely as if agreeing before setting his gaze upon and pointing at Discord >"He gave me magic-cancer that turned me into a demon. My corpse, sorry my 'former' corpse, is a national landmark." he states flatly >Silence filled the air, there should have been cheers by now that Equestria's greatest threats had been thwarted by evidently Prince, former prince, Annon had an issue and wasn't about to just drop it. >"You can buy mugs with my skull on it." >Celestia opened her mouth to retort but was silenced by her youngest sibling's next point >"She" he starts moving his hoof from discord's direction to Luna "Tried to put the world in eternal night and kill you celly-belly." he says, almost scoldingly >"And that one enslaved an entire town and if my letters from Twilight, we're pen pals before you ask, are accurate screwed with the timeline." >He trots over to the petrified villains and with the grind of stone hefts the solidified filly under foreleg >"You should send the Centaur home to...wherever he's from and the hot bug lady should be sent to the changeling kingdom too, actually they're both foreign invaders let their home countries deal with them." >>42863005 >>"You can buy mugs with my skull on it." Dead horse of a topic aside, this line is funny. >Celestia silently seethes when she first sees one. >'They don't know, they don't understand, forgive them, deep breaths.' >Luna, however, doesn't have a thousand years of diplomatic skills to fall back on. >She goes absolutely fucking ballistic at first glance. >>42863075 >Luna trying and failing to get all the BeastAnon merchandise pulled from stores >she tries to take it to the man himself but it turns out he’s their number one customer >he thinks its badass and his home is full of his-own-corpse paraphernalia (posters, tshirts, mugs, funko pops vinyl figurines) >his neetden looks like a horrible amalgamation of a mad science meth lab and an edgy teenagers bedroom >>42862976 >about how turning a literal child into stone is the most insane punishment he's seen He'd know if he saw her in action. Cozy is by far the most defective of the bunch. >>42863151 >Anon is given free reign for Cozy Glow's punishment- since he's so invested and all >He returns with a belt clenched in his magic >>42862976 >be Cozy Glow >you are currently who-knows-how far underground in some kind of lab-cave deep below the Everfree >the only sounds that echo on the walls are the metallic creaking of the stool you're leaning too far back on, and the mechanical clicks of whatever contraption your savior is tinkering with >he hasn't spoken much since he angrily snatched you away from your would-be jailers after your ill-fated attempt to take over the world >things kind of went from 100 to 0 pretty much instantly and the silence is starting to get a little awkward "...So, mister! What's your story? You must be pretty close with the Princesses to be able to get into a shouting match like that and get away with it..." >you already knew who he was of course >everypony knew about Princess Celestia's two long-lost siblings that showed up all those years ago, even if this one barely showed his face in public >but asking him anyway was the first step to endearing yourself to him >ponies all love to talk about themselves >he looks up from his work, seemingly having forgotten about your existence >"Huh? Oh, I'm supposed to be their brother. Or used to be. Or still am. One of those. Hard to tell, sometimes." >what? "what?" >of all the answers you were expecting, that wasn't one of them >why is he talking like he doesn't know who he's supposed to be? >"Yeah they banished me to another dimension or something. Or killed me. Or both. I don't really know the specifics but they seemed pretty damn sure that they got the right guy." >you didn't know the Prince had amnesia >"Hey do you wanna see my skeleton upstairs? It's some crazy shit. I made a magic ballista out of one of my femurs but everypony keeps telling me it's 'gross and unsanitary' and that 'Beast Bones are dangerous magical artifacts and I shouldn't be treating them like toys myeh myeh myeh myeh' but I bet you would get a kick out of it." "You live under your own skeleton?" >"Oh yeah totally, it's badass. That thing is massive, you kinda missed it since I teleported us in here but it's like the sickest evil lair on the planet probably." "Golly, mister! Are you sure you're not a villain?" >you felt the beginnings of a smile crawling up your face >this might just be the start of a wonderful friendship >>42863249 >Be Anon >Pronounced Anon. Not Annon. >Night has fallen across Equestria and thus the world, blanketing all beneath cool blue, deep black and the whimsical splash of purple unique to this world's sky >Your cabin is nestled snug and warm under that blanket, a bastion of comfort amidst a sea of evergreen trees that respectfully decided to stop growing so close to the damn house >You sit in the living room in front of the roaring fireplace, it used to be a screaming fireplace until you stopped using timberwolves as kindling, eyes glossing over the latest post >Some tinder pops and crackles in the flame, much better than it yipping. I mean really how were you supposed to know the heads remained animate after being cut? >The letter clutched in your hoof, somehow, is from your pen-pal Twilight or as you affectionately call her when you write back; 'Twiggy' >The jolly body purple poindexter is still convinced you're struggling with Equestrian script and not doing it on purpose >Her latest correspondence is pretty is pretty standard as far as an official royal communique goes >'Dear anon hope you are well, please don't be dead or drained of magic. is cosy threatening you? did you read the book on language I sent last time? would you like to come for a picnic just us, please? has cosy glow told you where she came from yet? is your favourite colour purple?' and so on and so forth >Its usually some variation or so though today's is more of a relaxed check-in with only one question about your ward >Said ward, is now trotting into the room, peachy-pink little hooves clopping against the floorboards until they stop as she stares at you from the doorway >She's gonna say it. You can feel it. >You don't even need to glance up from the letter to see the smug look plastered across that freckly face >"Hey Anon, all alone on a Friday night? golly, you're pathetic." >>42864855 >spoiler thousand years dungeon for that smart mouth of hers anyway the letters with Twilight made me realize that Natureanon would be the version of Alicorn Anon who could hang around the Mane 6 regularly the most. Prince Regent/King Anon has to run the kingdom and is basically the Celestia stand-in for the most part. Prince Anon/son of the Sun is... well the thread has barely done much with the concept but I'd assume he's mostly doing Canterlot related stuff and doesn't have the leeway to just dick around outside the capital. Meanwhile Natureanon would probably enjoy the rural area full of really nice folk who are generally down to earth, and if he is living in the Everfree then he's relatively close by to visit regularly. I could see Celestia realizing she can get Twilight to try to befriend her brother so she can have regular reports on his safety without violating his sense of privacy. Ergo he'd end up a regular side character in Ponyville, increasingly so as he gets more comfortable around ponies who aren't literally worshipping him or insisting they're related. Also gives more opportunities for romance imo >>42864941 >your baby brother is dead for centuries >comes back but with amnesia and has no idea who you are >Feels uncomfortable around you and moves out the moment he can >Moves far away in the boonies >Starts banging your student who you think of like a daughter How would Celestia even react to this rollercoaster of emotions? Like, I'm not sure the appropriate reaction to a situation like this even is. ~~~
