Expiry: Never
-
>Be you
-
>Growing old sucks
-
>You found a no-hooves waifu to include into your laifu
-
>But you never got rid of her
-
>You never stopped treating her just as well as your wife
-
>And then your wife passed
-
>You didn't even get a chance to start a family
-
>The emotional shock made you shut down entirely
-
>Outside of work and her, of course
-
>Until one day, even she left this world
-
>She left your home one day during a blizzard to tell you something but ended up frozen solid
-
>Her green-tinted plastic chassis cracked
-
>Some of her components were ruined
-
>Including her memory
-
>Every day is like the second day to her
-
>And every day is a new day for you
-
>"Wel-wel-wel-wel-wel-welllllllcom̧è home, Anon!"
-
>After so many decades, the Applejack bot you got just couldn't keep up
-
>Nowadays ponybots are practically sentient
-
>But she's a bit of a relic now
-
>And relics almost never have spare parts
-
>You smile and lean down, petting her well-kept mane
-
>You've spent decades keeping it in perfect condition
-
>The only thing left on her that's still pristine
-
>Her washed out ocular orbs scan over you, taking in your heart rate, temperature, and stress levels
-
>You smile so much when you see her
-
>But it hurts, even still, because she hasn't seen what has happened to you
-
>Over forty years you've had her
-
>You used to call her SnappleJack because of the vibrant green hue her chassis had
-
>Liquid cooling too
-
>It looked like Snapple
-
>So you teased her with that name until it just was her name
-
>Only you ever called her that
-
>You fight back age old tears pushing from the back of your head and clear your building sinuses
-
"Right then... yesterday I told you about a movie we'd watch, didn't I?"
-
>"Thaaaaaaaaaa̶̢aa̵͟͞áa̵̸a͢͝t's right, pardner! Can we watch it now? Please?"
-
>You nod and stand up, taking off your brown felt hat
-
>It was a hat you wanted to give her, but thankfully it fit you too
-
>It too had been sunbleached and worn by age
-
>You'll be damned if you get rid of it just because it's old fashioned
-
>Your back cracking all over, you kick off your boots and sit down at your old, trusted battlestation
-
>Your home isn't big, it's a tiny condo that you bought after your wife passed
-
>The world didn't turn out as bad as you thought, but given your age the best you can do is to just keep to yourself
-
>Snap trots toward you at an angle
-
>Her actuators are on the fritz so it's like she's walking a tiny bit sideways
-
>You pick her up and plop her down on your lap
-
"Alright... what was this called again..."
-
>Your aged fingers are still a demon with a keyboard and mouse
-
>You bring up the file and begin to play it
-
>The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
-
>A movie you grew up loving
-
>You love it so much, evidently you watch it every day now
-
>That first day you bought your bot, you wanted to show her that movie
-
>Due to her memory gap, every day is the day you introduce her to it
-
>You haven't ever had the heart to deny her of that
-
>The movie flies by, as it always does
-
>You're pretty sure the neighbors think you're crazy for playing it almost exactly at the same time, day after day, for years and years without fucking end
-
>But you love to see her reactions
-
>It doesn't hurt when you see her hoot and holler and attempt to cry when confronted with the appropriate scenes
-
>By the end of it, you watch it again
-
>Of course
-
>You haven't ever stopped playing games or watching other things, but you have very little time to do so outside of in the morning or late evenings
-
>Even then, you spend most of your attention on her
-
>After the two showings, Snapple shakes your arm with her face
-
>"Hey, no sleeeeE͢͜EE̷ping! You didn't miss that, did youu͘u̴͢u̴͝u?"
-
>You chuckle and shake your head
-
"Of course not. Did you really think Blondie would've let Tuco die like that? They're not bad men, you know. They're just dealing the hand they were dealt."
-
>Now that you're so old, you find deeper and deeper insight of that damned movie
-
>Maybe your mind is starting to go
-
>You yawn, leaning back in your captain's chair
-
>It's a thing of beauty, thank technological and ergonomic advances
-
>It doubles as your bed, pretty much
-
>You idly stroke Snap's mane
-
>You can feel the cracks on her chassis
-
>The rare gap that goes into her wiring
-
>That one frayed wire that controlled... something
-
>You forget some of the specifics about her
-
>"Heey, AnỜ́̕n! Tomorrow can we watch more stuff together?"
-
>You stifle a... noise
-
>You dare not contemplate what that noise could have been
-
"Yeah... yeah, I got a huge backlog to go through with you, you know. And we're gonna watch everything three times over until you get it straight, ok?"
-
>You really did have a backlog that long, once
-
>It took four months of watching movies and shows to clear it up
-
>By the time it did, you were both young nerds that couldn't stand to be apart
-
>You sigh and relax, thinking of what you'll do with her tomorrow
-
>You keep doing the same thing every day, hoping that maybe some miracle will happen and that her memory will somehow recover
-
>You spent so much time focusing on those first months over the years that you could write a five act play of every single day
-
>Not one single detail leaves you
-
>Even your fridge is in a perpetual stasis of exact items, exact quantities, and how far away it is from going bad
-
>You're so god damned tired of eating eggs
-
>Decent diet though
-
"I'm gonna... get some rest for a little bit, Snap. Wake me up in the morning for work, ok?"
-
>You haven't had to work in at least a decade now
-
>But that's what you told her when you were still some random grease monkey
-
>"Alllrighty parduǝɹ! I'll wake you ɹiƃɥʇ up at--"
-
>Her voice turns monotone
-
>"Five, forty, five, AM."
-
>It goes back to a somewhat squeaky, crackled version of normality
-
>"Mind if I sleeEep right here then? I can be yo-yo-yo-yo-yo-yo-yo-yo-yo-ỳǫ͝ư̡r̢ pillow!"
-
"Heh... how about you be my blanket? You're far too cute to put behind my head."
-
>She snuggles against your hand, her actuators creaking slightly from the minimal movement
-
>You close your eyes
-
>Tomorrow will be better, you believe
-
>Tomorrow she will remember
