To be the Perfect Pega Pet - Ch1 WIP


                                            You behaved, as you said you would, sitting on that couch and waiting patiently for an entire hour. There was of course, the anxious fiddling and the little fits of impatience, but you couldn’t help it! You hadn’t seen your friends in a few days, and lord knows your current mental state meant you needed them more than ever, right now.


                                            Sure enough, the hour had passed, and the owner of the care home wandered back through the door, continuing through the lounge. He gave you a brief scratch behind the ear as he passed, which you leaned into blissfully, but it was over as soon as it began. You hopped down from the couch and followed him to the front door, those noisy, jingly keys of his make such a racket as he twisted the lock.


                                            “Should be any minute now, buddy. Don’t get too excited.” He said as he turned his head to face you, before looking out through the door’s windows.


                                            “It’s hard not to! I miss all of them and they make me happy and-“ You cut yourself off, an excited little whinny emitting from you, before you blush in embarrassment and cover your mouth with a hoof.


                                            You hadn’t done that before. What was with your emotions as of late? Even the owner took notice, as he looked down at you with a smirk and a raised brow, palming at the top of your head as he pets you.


                                            “Take it you’re feeling better, then? You’ve never done that before. Even when I’ve given you your favourite treats.”


                                            “…I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, I… I’m sorry?”


                                            “Don’t be. It was cute. You shouldn’t be sorry for being happy, little guy. You’re only supposed to be sorry when you do something wrong.” He explains, his hand moving from the top of your head to the nearest ear, scratching it gently. Your head just leaaaaans without your say so… not that you mind.


                                            The two of you are a bit distracted by the impromptu petting session, so much so that you don’t notice the approaching chatter and noise! The handle turns and the door opens, bumping into the owner with an ‘oof’ as he clambers to stand from his previously squatting position, whilst you, stumble backwards away from the door, startled by the sudden arrival!


                                            A head peaks through the crack, “I didn’t think you’d be standing behind the door, sorry-“ A man announces, though your attention is focused towards the bottom of the door. The owners discuss amongst themselves as the door swings wider, now that your care taker stepped out of the way- and two of your friends immediately come sprint in through the door!


                                            The two mares had white coats, though one of them was an earth pony with a brown mane with blue streaks, and a red and white spotted collar with a little heart for her tag. Couldn’t forget that lavender bow in her mane, either! The other, a pegasus pony with a black mane that had pink streaks on the edges, whilst sporting a white collar with strawberry patterns, sharing the same heart tag. Your friends, <Name 1> and <Name 2>! You almost envied their collars, but then…


                                            You failed to react in time as the two barged into you and tackled you to the ground, crying out in surprise and landing on your back with a thud, the two clambering over you as one opted to lay against you and nuzzle into your neck, whilst the other laid atop you and nuzzled down into your face.


                                            They were both smaller than you, but you couldn’t handle the assault of two mares at once! You laughed and giggled along with them, trying to nuzzle them back as your wings unfurled to wrap around your dear petmates. There go all those negative thoughts… it’s time to be happy again.


                                            “We missed you!” <Name 1> exclaimed, and you couldn’t help but nuzzle her in reply.


                                            “We were really excited to come see you when Master said we’d need to stay here for a little while!” <Name 2> added, nuzzling into your neck further as she cozied under your wing.


                                            “I-I missed you as well, I really did… it’s been kind lonely, but that’s okay! You’re here now, and I’m happy.” You confess, nuzzling at the two of them as you enjoy the proximity of your friends, the scent of fellow ponies comforting to you.


                                            “Well we won’t let you feel lonely whilst we’re here, you’re not allowed!”


                                            “We’re gonna play and cuddle and run around and-“


                                            You just laugh and rest your head on the floor, letting them run on and on about their plans for their time with you. It drowns out as your mind takes over again… but it’s better, this time. You feel happy. You feel wanted. They want to be with you, and you’re all for it. Your heart flutters in your chest and you can… feel, yourself breathing. Their happy faces burned into your mind, noting all of their excitement and genuine intrigue…


                                            You’re so… so happy. You’re not alone anymore. You won’t be alone for a while now. You’d have company, friends, ponies to play with… you almost started crying again, for different reasons, this time.


                                            You had enough strength to sit yourself up, to the surprise of the mares atop you, though you used a foreleg and your wings to keep any falls from happening. Without another word, you pull them both in for a tight hug, nuzzling them both as you quietly whimper a thank you, to them.


                                            You only leave them confused and slightly concerned. They don’t understand how lonely it’s been, or how you’re feeling… but they will help you. You know this.
