Expiry: Never

  1. >"Nonny, it's so great of you to want to hang out with me!"
  2. >Pinkie said that but she's the one who visited you
  3. >Your room, while technically a closet in Twilight's huge tree of a house, is plenty big for you
  4. >She even got you a lot of neat adventure books to read and the "best video game ever"
  5. >You'll be the first to admit it
  6. >Super Mareo is good but it's not THAT good
  7. >If it were, you'd be able to beat it
  8. "Well yeah, you're the best Pinkie! You even made dinner!"
  9. >Dinner was outside of the room
  10. >Like any growing lad's dream dinner, it is an absolutely gargantuan cherry and blueberry pie
  11. >"Sure did!"
  12. >Pinkie sidles up to you
  13. >While the room is a good size for you, the fully grown mare seems a little cramped
  14. >"You look like you're stuck on that level. Wanna play a quick, short game to take a break?"
  15. >As much as your idea of fun was showing her how awesome you were at dying to the same mini-boss, you nod
  16. >You haven't surrendered
  17. >You're merely planning
  18. "What sort of game?"
  19. >"It's a GREAT one! Twilight and I used to play it aaaaaaaalllllllll the time!"
  20. >If she used to play the game with your Aunt Twilight, it had to be a great one
  21. >Twilight wasn't really your aunt but she has taken care of you ever since you came to Equestria
  22. >What's weird is that Pinkie doesn't usually stop by when Twilight is around
  23. "Does it include magic? Aunt Twilight said that one day, even I might be able to cast spells! If I become a unicorn."
  24. >You furrow your brow
  25. "Or an alicorn."
  26. >You shake your head, trying to remember some of the details of what you were told
  27. "Or... maybe humans can cast magic with just their hands...?"
  28. >Pinkie giggles at your confusion
  29. >"Nooo, not magic! It's a super SPECIAL game!"
  30. >She bounces in place, hopping from your mattress on the floor to the bare wood of the tree home
  31. >She's so good at that she bounces clear over your head at least twice
  32. >"It's called Truth or Dare!"
  33. >Your eyes light up
  34. "H-hey! I know that game from back home!"
  35. >"That's because that game is AWESOME!"
  36. >Pinkie ends her bounding with a single leap upward that ends with her splatting an inch away from your bed
  37. >Her acting like roadkill, deflated and with her tongue lolled out, is enough for you to laugh yourself nearly blind
  38. >She winks and re-inflates, scooting over to sit on your bed
  39. "Well I probably know how to play it. So what made it so special with Aunt Twilight?"
  40. >Pinkie's lips curl upward in an unusual way when you say "Aunt Twilight"
  41. >Her bright, shining blue eyes are always so gleeful, though it can sometimes be difficult for you to know what she's thinking
  42. >"Because she would tell me all sorts of awesome truths and facts! It was a super easy way for her to show how smart she was. And when she did a dare, I would get to see all of the magic tricks she knew! It was the best!"
  43. >While her energy is infectious, you're physically incapable of matching her zeal
  44. "Wow... if I ask you truths, will you tell me all sorts of cool things too?"
  45.
  46. >"You betcha! And if you ask me to do a dare, I'll do anything!"
  47. >Her smile changes
  48. >A little
  49. >It's
  50. >A little
  51. >Less happy?
  52. >Her eyes relax just enough
  53. >"Anything... but Twilight doesn't really play many games these days. So... she won't really be able to join anytime soon."
  54. >The way her tone shifts to something smoother and softer
  55. >Something causes you to shiver
  56. >You don't know why, the tree house is always warm
  57. >"So do you wanna go first, or pick?"
  58. >You contemplate the choice for a whopping four seconds
  59. "Truth."
  60. >"Yay!"
  61. >That "yay" sounds... different
  62. >"Soooo Nonny. Are there any ponies that you reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally like in Ponyville?"
  63. >She leans toward you while asking, unable to contain something more like a smirk
  64. "Well... Aunt Twilight is awesome. I love her."
  65. >You notice Pinkie's smirk twitching
  66. "She kinda is like a real aunt to me... I mean. I don't think a real aunt would be any different. I never had one before."
  67. >You sigh and try to remember the names of all of the ponies you've met
  68. "I... I like... Buttersky? She's nice."
  69. >Her smirk twitches again
  70. "She kinda scares me though... she acts like she's never seen a boy before or something. Applejack's sister is cool too! She sounds like my old neighbor."
  71. >Pinkie's smirk droops but snaps back to place
  72. >"Dooooooooo.... you like me?"
  73. >Pinkie rotates and leans around in a circular motion
  74. "Oh. Oh yeah! I mean, I love you! Definitely!"
  75. >You reach over and give the big pink pony a powerful hug
  76. >As powerful as you can muster, given your stature
  77. "You visit all the time, even if Twilight tells me to watch out because she doesn't want me breaking my legs, you can make the best food in the world, and you don't talk about me having to join some sort of classroom to study!"
  78. >Part of you wants to say that you wish you could live with her instead
  79. >But
  80. >You really like the quiet
  81. >And the video games
  82. >And the reading
  83. >And Aunt Twilight
  84. >Pinkie giggles and sighs like she had been holding her breath
  85. >"And I love you too! This definitely IS fun! Me next, me next!"
  86. "Hah, alright! Truth or dare?"
  87. >"Truth me!"
  88. >You pause to think over what you could ask her
  89. >You ask her things all the time
  90. >This has to be something that require her to be bound by the laws of the game
  91. "Are you sure you've never seen another human before? You act like you've been around me forever! And you don't try to get me to eat those hayburgers either..."
  92. >The only time she fooled you about eating flowers was when she pulled out a bag of flour
  93. >You still think the bag was just spelled wrong
  94. >"Super sure! I would definitely remember someone as h... cute as you!"
  95. >As if to emphasize that, she leans down and nuzzles her face against yours
  96. >She's never been able to do that without giggling like a maniac
  97. >"Besides, Twilight thinks so too! She just thinks she knows better. Even if she's really just the same as me."
  98. "The same as you? How is she the same?"
  99. >You raise an eyebrow at the pink mare
  100.
  101. >Pinkie's giggle descends into a throaty chuckle
  102. >"Oooh Nonny. She just thinks you're the cutest thing ever. Just like I do!"
  103. >You feel a little embarrassed about being complimented in that way
  104. >Sensing your hesitation, she bounces once on the bed without getting up
  105. >"Your turn! Truth or dare, Nonny?"
  106. >Truth is kinda boring, honestly...
  107. "Dare!"
  108. >You nod as you speak, confident in your choice
  109. >"Ok! In that case... I dare you to close your eyes."
  110. >You smirk and close your eyes
  111. "Ha! Easy!"
  112. >"And keep your mouth open!"
  113. "I-"
  114. >...
  115. >...
  116. >...
  117. "What?"
  118. >"Y-yeah! It'll be a funny face."
  119. >You shrug and do as the dare demands by opening your mouth
  120. >"Liiiiiiiiiiittle bit wider, Nonny!"
  121. >Finally starting to feel like you're at a bit of a disadvantage, your cheeks warm up and you open your mouth further
  122. >Obviously, you're not in a position where you can speak
  123. >"H-ha... ha h-ha. Look at you, y-you're a silly colt, aren't you?"
  124. "Ahm ah oi."
  125. >You speak without closing your mouth
  126. >It's the hidden ace up your sleeve!
  127. >Your retort causes some sort of shivering sound from the mare
  128. >"H-heh, ha... hey, Nonny."
  129. "Ah?"
  130. >"Stay juuuuuuuuuust like that for a little longer, ok?"
  131. "Oh-ey."
  132. >You relax and let your muscles droop
  133. >It is starting to feel natural that your eyes are closed
  134. >It feels weird to breathe through your nose but you're at ease
  135. >"Hold on. Ok Nonny?"
  136. >You nod
  137. >Is this on a timer?
  138. >You never thought to push for a time limit on things
  139. >Before you can think on anything else, you feel something hot
  140. >Wet
  141. >And long
  142. >And wriggly
  143. >Enter your mouth
  144. >By sheer shock you recoil, just to feel a pair of hooves on your shoulders
  145. >You flinch as the weird, big, flat thing keeps lashing over your mouth
  146. >Once it finds your tongue, it starts to curl and whip at it
  147. >You want to ask Pinkie what the heck is going on but you can't speak
  148. >She's still there but the noises she is making is starting to scare you
  149. >She sounds...
  150. >Hungry
  151. >Like the type of hungry you would be in if you couldn't eat for an entire day
  152. >Eventually the thing pokes further in the back of your mouth
  153. >Your internal panic meter peaks out and you let out a gargled scream and launched yourself back
  154. >You open your eyes and wipe your mouth
  155. >You can hear your heart pounding in your ears and in your chest
  156. >You feel light-headed to the point you don't even notice the way that Pinkie is staring at you
  157. >She's huffing just as much as you are
  158. >She licks her lips multiple times
  159. >"W-wow! I-I can't believe you could handle a party horn in your mouth! Th-that was rea-really funny!"
  160. >Her giggling uneven and awkward, she shakes her mane and makes a glistening pink party horn fall out
  161. >"I-it was a prank, silly! It's ok!"
  162. >You glare at the horn
  163. >You can still feel it prodding and twisting around in your mouth
  164. >It tasted sweet
  165. >Rather, you didn't even register that the taste existed until after it ended
  166. "T... that was kinda scary."
  167. >And it made you feel weird
  168. >"Aw... I'm sorry, Nonny! I won't use it again, ok?"
  169.
  170. "Y-yeah..."
  171. >Unable to get the wet, snaky sensation out of your mouth you wipe your lips again
  172. "...Truth or dare, Pinkie?"
  173. >She seems excited that you want to continue playing
  174. >"Dare! Definitely dare me!"
  175. "Alright. I dare you..."
  176. >You squint at her, like you're thinking of something truly nefarious
  177. >She seems unphased
  178. "I dare you..."
  179. >Pinkie remains still
  180. "To..."
  181. >The smile on her is massive, which is an accomplishment
  182. "Be my pillow! For me to lay my head on until I say otherwise."
  183. >You puff our your chest, proud of your ultimatum
  184. >Because obviously she can only be your pillow
  185. >Or she LOSES
  186. >"You got it!"
  187. >With great enthusiasm, she flings herself back on your bed
  188. >She lays on her back, legs outstretched
  189. >"You can use my leg as a pillow! That way I can relax and your head won't be all wonky-weird!"
  190. >You don't follow but you agree
  191. >You rest your head on the inside of one of her lower legs
  192. >Something hard is poking the top and back of your head
  193. >Your answer to that is to vigorously rub your head against the mystery nub
  194. >Pinkie lets out some loud, strained laugh while you do that
  195. >She must be ticklish
  196. >You close your eyes, kick out your own legs and relax
  197. >This must be what being a king is like
  198. "Ha. This is awesome. You should definitely be my pillow more."
  199. >"Y-y... ohhh yeah, Nonny. Y-you bet."
  200. >Maybe she's trying to hold back her laughing or yawning
  201. >Would someone get sleepy if someone else is laying on them?
  202. >You've seen cats get tired just when one lays near another
  203. >"Do you feel a... poking thing?"
  204. "Huh?"
  205. >You roll the back of your head along her
  206. >You feel it
  207. "Yeah."
  208. >"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanna do me a favor and rub your head against it? It's... like scratching an itch! And if you feel a second one, scratch that one too! With your head."
  209. "Oh. Well sure. Ok I guess."
  210. >With your new quest given, you lean forward and throw your head back
  211. >The nub is super hard but that means you can feel it perfectly against your head
  212. >You spend a few minutes solid rubbing against the nubs
  213. >They don't go away at all
  214. >Transfixed on your own request, you fail to notice that Poinkie's voice has gotten louder
  215. >Her moans sound like her just making noises to you
  216. >You continue until you hear a distant door open and close
  217. >You bolt upright, snapped out of the game
  218. "H-hey! That's Aunt Twilight! She's home!"
  219. >Pinkie doesn't get up
  220. >She huffs and pants, violently shivering on your bed
  221. >"W...whew. N-nonny, that was... that game was a ton of fun!"
  222. >"Anon? Are you up there?"
  223. >Pinkie sits up, her mane lopsided
  224. >The look in her eye is one of pure peace
  225. >"Oh Nonny... that was fun. Next time we start, let's continue where we left off, ok?"
  226. "Oh. Yeah, ok."
  227. >You go to your bedroom door and open it
  228. "We're up here, Aunt Twilight!"
  229. >"...."We"? Who else is there?"
  230. >Twilight sounds like she's gonna throw a fit
  231. >Her friends always make her shout and act mad
  232. >But she's never really mad
  233. >Except when it's Pinkie Pie
  234. >And when she's alone with you
  235.
  236.
  237. >You have a task today
  238. >One of the most important jobs in all of Equestria!
  239. >You have to find some eggs for Aunt Twilight!
  240. >She doesn't do it very often at all but she's out with Applejack and Pinkie Pie
  241. >They're all cooking up some sort of thing
  242. >Or was it a competition?
  243. >To be honest, you did not pay as much attention as you should have
  244. >But... to be fair
  245. >You were in the middle of playing Mareo
  246. >You still died but you were closer to rescuing the Prince than ever
  247. >You kick at a stray pebble, glancing at a map in your hand
  248. >Aunt Twilight gave you a map of Ponyville that is so detailed you're not sure it isn't some sort of magical trinket
  249. >You slow when you see...
  250. >You're not sure what you see
  251. >Dozens of bird houses
  252. >Holes and gaps in the ground every few steps
  253. >A natural bridge over a pristine pond
  254. "W... was I supposed to get eggs from these?"
  255. >It seems unrealistic that you would be asked to just start robbing nests
  256. >...
  257. >...
  258. >...
  259. >But where else are you supposed to find eggs?
  260. >Aunt Twilight said it was important
  261. >You pocket the map and clap your hands while eyeing one of the least spindly trees
  262. >You're sure it will hold your weight despite the funny way it bends and splits
  263. >You prepare
  264. >And grip
  265. >And climb
  266. >And raise up
  267. >And...
  268. >And...
  269. >Uh
  270. >You're kinda far up already
  271. >If a clone of yourself were on the ground, you'd be able to step on his shoulders
  272. >If...
  273. >If you fell
  274. >You might die
  275. >Like Mareo falling into a pit
  276. >...
  277. >...
  278. >...
  279. >Oh crap
  280. >You're frozen stiff
  281. >What do you do now?
  282. >Do you keep going?
  283. >You can't fail Aunt Twilight
  284. >But if you fall, you're dead meat
  285. >...
  286. >...
  287. >...
  288. >Time passes while you helplessly cling to the branch
  289. >You keep trying to prepare yourself to just jump off since you forgot how you got up so high
  290. >You don't have the will to go through with it
  291. "H... help..."
  292. >You finally speak, much to your own shame
  293. "Help."
  294. >Hearing yourself cry for help spikes your fear to full blown terror
  295. "SOMEONE HELP ME!"
  296. >Overwhelmed by the horror of death via splattering into a burst of blood and skeletons, you black out
  297. >You hear humming
  298. >You're floating through space but somehow hear humming
  299. >Have you ever felt this warm?
  300. >Maybe, once before...
  301. >If only you could...
  302. >"Oh my... you're awake! Are you ok?"
  303. >Your eyes flutter open
  304. >You're indoors
  305. >Nothing hurts
  306. "...Buttersky?"
  307. >"Fluttershy, sweetie. Were you trying to say "hello" to some birdies?"
  308. >The large yellow mare looks down at you
  309. >Her wings are folded over you, providing you with a rather warm cover
  310. >You don't want to tell her the truth
  311. >You know enough that you would probably get in trouble
  312. "...eggs..."
  313. >"What was that?"
  314. >Fluttershy tilts her head at your mumbling
  315. "I... I was told..."
  316. >Think Anon, think!
  317. >You have to make sure you don't get in trouble
  318. "A-Aunt... Twilight... told me to get some eggs. And..."
  319. >You avert her direct gaze
  320. "I... wanted to see where eggs came from..."
  321.
  322. >Fluttershy's entire face goes bright pink
  323. >Pinker than her mane
  324. >"Oh... oh my...!"
  325. >She giggles and fold her wings over you
  326. >Only now do you notice that you're on the floor, but you at least have a pillow over your head
  327. >You're kinda stuck, how you are
  328. >"Well, you are certainly an inquisitive little critter, aren't you?"
  329. >Since when were you a "critter"?
  330. >"I think you may need to be a little older before I can give you the details... but it is something mommy and daddy birds do when they're all alone. And if they're peeked on, they get shy and wait. But if they wait too long, it will be dangerous!"
  331. >With no prior understanding, you absorb the story like a sponge
  332. "...Dangerous? Will they die?"
  333. >Fluttershy shakes her head in a slow sway
  334. >She leans down to peck a kiss on your forehead
  335. >"It won't get that bad. But if they don't have their own eggs and hatch little baby birdies, they'll be all alone. And that isn't good at all. So next time, be careful and let the birdies play their games and other things without bothering them. Ok?"
  336. "I... ok..."
  337. >You agree to her terms with a sullen expression
  338. >You lied but you still got chastised
  339. >Just for something completely unrelated
  340. "How did I get in here?"
  341. >"I carried you in, naturally. I couldn't let Twilight worry about you! Especially after Spike left on his journey..."
  342. >Have you heard that name before?
  343. >"She always such luck! First, a baby dragon. Then I get to see him grow up-at least a little-and then she finds a baby human! I can't wait to see what you grow up to look like."
  344. "I'm not a baby..."
  345. >She doesn't know better but you still feel insulted
  346. >"Oh, I know. You're very big. You're interested in how baby birds are made, after all."
  347. >She leans down and pecks your forehead again
  348. >The kiss lingers for a few seconds before she pulls her head back
  349. >"Very big indeed...."
  350. >She sighs and closes her eyes
  351. >Her wings begin to brush over you
  352. >Despite you being surrounded by yellow feathers, there is some unmistakable weight behind them
  353. >You want to sit up but if you did, you would have to push past her
  354. >So you just remain laying
  355. >"Twilight always was so lucky... if you were my human, I could brush and pet your mane every day. And even feed you by hoof and see what you could do best at... and we could help learn about a lot of animals... and how they make eggs. Or get them fertilized."
  356. >The mare giggles before giving another soft sigh
  357. >Something about the atmosphere and her voice
  358. >It makes you close your eyes
  359. >Her voice is so soothing
  360. >It is just quiet and gentle enough
  361. >"I bet Twilight wouldn't mind if she let me watch over you... imagine how much we could learn from each other. You would like that, wouldn't you?"
  362. >Without much thought put into it, you nod
  363. >Your agreement causes her to make some sort of weird noise
  364. >Like a cat purring
  365. >"I want to learn so much about you, Anon... you aren't like me and Twilight. Oh no... it's very natural for you to look for eggs. It must be instinct."
  366.
  367. >Fluttershy isn't speaking a lot of sense
  368. >But the way she says it is dreamy
  369. >The second you lose track of yourself
  370. >Or has it been only a second...?
  371. >You feel something on your face
  372. >You're in such a comfortable, cozy embrace that you can't will yourself to move
  373. >The something on your face repeats
  374. >It feels like kisses
  375. >"If only you could spend winter with me... Angel is with his little bunny family... I'll keep you happy. And I bet I know juuust how..."
  376. >Fluttershy whispers in between kissing your forehead
  377. >Then your face
  378. >You flinch when she kisses your mouth
  379. >She relaxes her lips
  380. >She does not move away
  381. >Something crashes outside
  382. >That is enough to break her spell under you
  383. >It is also enough that she pulls her face away
  384. >But not before pressing against your lips and licking once
  385. >"Heeeeeeeeey Fluttershy! Y'there? Anon got lost-again! Twilight and everyone's waiting for those eggs! Do you still have them?"
  386. >The rowdy, loud voice further breaks you out of your trance
  387. >You can't even see straight but you recognize that voice
  388. >"Oh, I already sent them out, Rainbow Dash! I'll join in a little later, ok? Keep a slice of buttermilk and pecan pie for me, please!"
  389. >"Yeah yeah, but hurry! They're only giving five whole minutes for things to cool off, then it'll be a free-for-all!"
  390. >"Well now..."
  391. >Fluttershy looks down right at you
  392. >She seems pleased with herself
  393. >"I bet you were wanting those eggs, weren't you?"
  394. >You thoughtlessly nod
  395. >"I asked the mailmare to carry them over. It seems like Twilight didn't get the letter in time. But that's ok... it means we got to spend some time together."
  396. >She pulls her wings back, freeing you from her embrace
  397. >"Now, let's go eat some yummy pies and other goodies! If you ask Twilight reallllly nicely, I think she might let you come back home with me. Wouldn't that be nice?"
  398. >Not really
  399. >You want to go back to Mareo
  400.
  401.
  402. >"Alright, Anon! Quiz time!"
  403. >The purple library mare sitting in front of you clops her front hooves together
  404. >You're seated at an old desk she said she grabbed from the local school house
  405. >It is a little small for you
  406. >You haven't kept track of time here but Aunt Twilight doesn't look so huge anymore
  407. >She's still far larger than you
  408. "Is it one of those written ones? Ooopen... book...?"
  409. >You give her your best smile
  410. >Aunt Twilight returns the smile
  411. >"No!"
  412. >Aw man
  413. >You feel your soul sink
  414. >"Aw, it'll be ok! It'll be a super simple one, most colts get it right the first time too!"
  415. >That doesn't inspire you with confidence
  416. >Come to think of it, you haven't seen many colts or stallions to begin with
  417. >Not that you get to go out and socialize
  418. "Alright... I'm as ready as I can be."
  419. >"That's the spirit!"
  420. >Twilight clears her throat and closes her eyes, like she's about to sing an opera
  421. >"Now first. Where do we live?"
  422. >That
  423. >That's not an easy question
  424. "...at home?"
  425. >Aunt Twilight smiles
  426. >"Technically, yes. But think bigger!"
  427. "Ponyville?"
  428. >"Bigger!"
  429. "Uh... oh. Well, yeah! Equestria."
  430. >"Hurray! We're one for one now!"
  431. >Aunt Twilight sways from side to side, beaming
  432. >You can't help but feel embarrassed at needing three guesses
  433. >"Next question! Who controls the sun?"
  434. "Oh-well that's easy. Princess Celestia!"
  435. >"Heh, Mr. Smartypants today, aren't we? But who controls... the moon?!"
  436. >Her sudden snap to the new question catches you off guard
  437. "W-wait. I know that one. It's still a princess."
  438. >Aunt Twilight opens one of her eyes, like she's peeking at you
  439. >"Yes...?"
  440. "And... her name..."
  441. >"Yes, Anon...?"
  442. "Is Princess..."
  443. >Being put on the spot, your eyes widen
  444. >Oh crap
  445. >You're drawing a blank
  446. >You're drawing a blank?!
  447. "I... uh."
  448. >Aunt Twilight simply watches you, as amused as can be
  449. "Princess... Mooooonaaa...?"
  450. >You recoil back and shrink as you whisper your answer like a balloon deflating
  451. >"Did you say Princess Moona?"
  452. "Y-"
  453. >"Or the correct answer, Princess Luna?"
  454. >Oh no
  455. >You got it wrong
  456. "T... the right one."
  457. >"The right one, huh?"
  458. >She smirks at your apparent difficulty
  459. >"Let's call that a half-right. Ok?"
  460. "Ok..."
  461. >"Ok?"
  462. "Yeah... ok."
  463. >Aunt Twilight gives you a moment before clearing her throat again
  464. >"Question three!"
  465. "Don't you mean four?"
  466. >"Ah ha!"
  467. >Aunt Twilight giggles
  468. >"I couldn't slip that one by you, could I? You're such a clever boy."
  469. >That sort of complimenting makes you feel like a million bits
  470. >"So, question... four. What is the biggest difference between stallions and mares?"
  471. >Well that's a silly question
  472. "Well mares have foals. And the stallions are the protectors."
  473. >"Supporters."
  474. "Huh?"
  475. >"They're the supporters, Anon. Some can protect but I've never ever seen a stallion be able to stand up against a mare!"
  476. "O-oh."
  477. >Well that makes sense
  478. >You don't think you could ever fight Aunt Twilight
  479. >Or any of the other mares you know
  480.
  481. >Even Applebloom teases you about how you haven't won a wrestling match yet
  482. >It isn't your fault she defaults to sitting on your head and asking why you can't just buck back
  483. >Even Applejack laughs, and she's supposed to be the referee!
  484. >Aunt Twilight picks up on your thoughts
  485. >"Is something wrong, Anon?"
  486. "Ah, uh. No, it's ok."
  487. >Twilight pets your head with her hoof
  488. >"It's ok if you think it's weird. I mean, you aren't from here after all. But how could it ever be any other way? Our magic tends to be stronger, Applejack is the strongest earth pony I know so there's no way a stallion could match her."
  489. "I mean, I don't think it's weird. But if I'm always going to be the weakest around..."
  490. >"Hey, strength isn't everything! Do you know what human boys are best at?"
  491. >You furrow your brow
  492. "...This isn't part of the quiz, is it?"
  493. >Another giggle
  494. >"Not at all, Mr. Smartypants."
  495. >What would the answer be?
  496. >You are getting to be really good at Mareo
  497. >But no one will really watch you play it, except for Pinkie Pie
  498. "Uh... eating blueberries?"
  499. >"Being the cutest boy in Equestria!"
  500. >Aunt Twilight leans over and kisses your cheek
  501. >The kiss lingers for a bit longer than it usually does
  502. >Or is that your imagination?
  503. >"...ok, you eat a lot of blueberries too."
  504. >Aunt Twilight retreats to her original position, as happy as ever
  505. >"So, are you ready for the last question?"
  506. "Ready!"
  507. >"What do you want to do when you grow up?"
  508. "I...huh?"
  509. >You shake your head a few times
  510. "What do you mean?"
  511. >Aunt Twilight nods
  512. >"I mean what I said! When you're all grown up, what do you want to do?"
  513. "What do I want..."
  514. >What could you want?
  515. >You love living in a library
  516. >Aunt Twilight is the best
  517. >A lot of ponies in Ponyville know you better now, and you always get treated nicely
  518. >Pinkie Pie...
  519. >Well
  520. >You've kinda been hanging out more with her alone
  521. >And that usually means Truth or Dare
  522. >...
  523. >...
  524. >...
  525. >You've been picking Dare more often
  526. >And then there's Fluttershy
  527. >She still kinda scares you because of her wings but her voice has to be a super power
  528. >If she gets her wings over you and starts talking, you're hopelessly paralyzed until she chooses to stop
  529. >It's scary
  530. >But it makes you feel really good too
  531. "I..."
  532. >You mumble your answer
  533. >"What was that?"
  534. "I... I wanna learn how to bake. A-and... take care of other animals... better..."
  535. >You shift your eyes away
  536. >You expect her to catch on and say something
  537. >Instead, she gasps and clops her hooves together
  538. >"That is an excellent idea! You could accomplish a whole lot by being a baker! And even better, that explains why you've been reading up on birds too!"
  539. "Y-yeah..."
  540. >As embarrassed as you are, the reason you haven't been looking up books on birds hasn't been due to that
  541. >It's more the wings
  542. >They just freak you out
  543. >Even if Fluttershy's are soft and smell nice, it is terrifying to be stuck in place
  544. >Nevermind if she one day got angry at you and picked you up, flew high into the sky and...
  545. >You shiver
  546.
  547. "So... is it ok if I go to Fluttershy's house? She... s-she said that she would help teach me a lot. She just wants to make sure that if I stay too late, you won't worry. Because I'll... be there."
  548. >You try to swallow a massive lump in your throat
  549. >You're doing exactly as she told you to do
  550. >She said that if Aunt Twilight gave her approval, you could stay over for a night
  551. >And if you do...
  552. >"Fluttershy? Well... I don't think she has a spare room that would fit a human! I mean, a bear, a turtle, a spare fish tank, hole in the ground, bird house, lily pad..."
  553. >Oh no
  554. >She isn't going to allow it
  555. >"...who am I kidding, if she has all of that, of course she'll be able to make a spot for you!"
  556. >Your head perks up
  557. "You mean it?"
  558. >"Well sure! She's one of my best friends, not to mention she's the most magical beacon of kindness!"
  559. >She is?
  560. >"As long as you promise to stay safe, it's ok!"
  561. >A powerful surge flows through your body
  562. >Feeling a flush of warmth go to your cheeks, you pump your arm
  563. "Sweet, awesome!"
  564. >You can't wait to tell her!
  565. "Can I go to Pinkie Pie's bakery too?"
  566. >"Sure, as long as I'm there too."
  567. >The party train in your head comes to a crashing halt
  568. "H-wha? Why?"
  569. >Your quick question makes her raise an eyebrow
  570. >"Well, one reason is that I want to see and taste the results!"
  571. >Her answer is not what you expected
  572. "O-oh. Yeah. Well of course!"
  573. >"And... she sometimes gets a little weird with colts."
  574. >It turns out that she's going exactly where you were worried
  575. "W-well I mean she hides candy in her mane... that's kinda weird."
  576. >"It is. But, Anon, what I mean to say is that she... takes the idea of fun a little too far sometimes. So... I don't want you to be at risk of anything. Ok?"
  577. >At risk of...
  578. >You shift uncomfortably
  579. "I.. uh..."
  580. >"What is it Anon?"
  581. >Oh crap
  582. >She's not letting you get away from talking about her
  583. "I..."
  584. >You can't tell her
  585. >Can you?
  586. "A... about Pinkie Pie..."
  587. >The guilt in your voice causes an alarm
  588. >Aunt Twilight stands up
  589. >The tone in her voice is painfully serious
  590. >"...what is it, Anon?"
  591. "I..."
  592. >You can't let her know
  593. "I... talked to Pinkie Pie about that before. When I saw her one time."
  594. >"You did...? Why didn't you tell me?"
  595. "I'm sorry. I said you were worried and she..."
  596. >She told you that she'll never find out about their secret games
  597. "She said that if she could have a little brother. That she would want him to be me."
  598. >Twilight watches you
  599. >She almost never has that sort of serious expression
  600. >It's enough to cause strong discomfort
  601. "That's when she asked if I wanted to learn how to bake stuff like her..."
  602. >The unicorn's eyes narrow
  603. >You're about to crack
  604. >You can't handle this sort of drowning pressure
  605.
  606. >Just when you're at the brink of begging her to forgive you for lying, she sits down
  607. >"...you know, she has a lot of sisters. But no brothers. I guess I never even thought about that."
  608. >Instead of sounding suspicious, she sounds solemn
  609. >"I guess that makes sense. Ha. Ha ha!"
  610. >Aunt Twilight gives a relieved laugh
  611. >You don't think it's funny but she really seems to
  612. >"That... is actually kinda funny. I know Shiny is a big brother, but I can't imagine being an only child."
  613. "Y... yeah. And she's... kinda like a big sister. She's not as serious as you."
  614. >You let that last comment slip out as a way to relieve internal stress
  615. >She laughs at that
  616. >"You sure got that right! That pony makes me think that I'm a thousand years old sometimes. I don't know how she's always bouncing off the walls. Sometimes even bouncing off of the ceiling!"
  617. "H-ha... yeah..."
  618. >That was close
  619. >It's a good thing because you've protected your secret with Pinkie Pie
  620. >But
  621. >Why do you feel so scummy?
  622. >You never thought you would lie to Aunt Twilight like this
  623. >"Ha... ha... ah..."
  624. >Aunt Twilight circles around the desk and hugs you
  625. >Tight
  626. >"I'm... I'm sorry I snapped, Anon. I'm just... I don't know what I would do if something happened to you. I really do love you, you know."
  627. "I know... I love you too."
  628. >You return the hug as hard as you can
  629. >Maybe if you hug her for long enough, it'll make up for you lying to her
  630. >"I would say that was an excellent four and a half out of five. You did brilliantly."
  631. >She rests her throat against the top of your head
  632. >You remain this way for entire minutes
  633. >By the end of the hug, your arms are completely sore
  634. >"How about we go over to Applejack's? I told Granny Smith that you were gonna ace a super hard quiz so she's cooking up a storm. Applebloom will be there..."
  635. >You grimace at the mare
  636. "But she's mean to me."
  637. >Aunt Twilight chuckles
  638. >"Oh Anon. She's not mean, she's just... showing you that she cares."
  639. "But last time we wrestled she wouldn't get off my head!"
  640. >Your cry of injustice is met with a stifled giggle
  641. >"It's ok. Some fillies are just... aggressive."
  642. >There's no getting through to her on that
  643. >Even if you're destined for a filly-filled beatdown, at least you get to try out more of the Apple family cookbook
  644. >Maybe Big Mac could teach you how to escape
  645.
  646.
  647. "Pinkie Pie, I'm here!"
  648. >"Nonny! Wai-d'oh-wait a second! I'll be right there!"
  649. >Today is another day you get to spend at Sugarcube Corner
  650. >You've finally remembered that name
  651. >Given everything else Aunt Twilight makes you remember, maybe it isn't your fault
  652. >She says that you'll be a great husband and assistant one day, if you keep up your studying
  653. >Maybe it's just you but not a lot of ponies seem to be interested in how well read you are
  654. >Pinkie Pie rolls down the staircase, tied up in some sort of white thing
  655. "G-gah! Are you alright?"
  656. >As silly as she gets, you always rush to her aid
  657. >You help pull the pony up, tugging away the white thing that had engulfed her head
  658. >"That... I was not expecting. And wow, look at you! You're so much taller now!"
  659. >You have grown, apparently
  660. >Aunt Twilight isn't so giant anymore, but the way she teaches you things make you feel small
  661. >Fluttershy isn't nearly as scary, even if her wings still cause you discomfort
  662. >And Pinkie Pie...
  663. >She rotates herself forward on her front hooves until her mouth mashes against yours
  664. >You've learned what a kiss is through her
  665. >Her playful tongue enters your mouth and whips around at a high speed
  666. >You still can't handle the sensory overload but you manage to stand it without going dizzy
  667. >She ends it right before your trembling hands move to push her away
  668. >"Puah~ Boy, am I happy to see you! I got you a gift!"
  669. >Your brain whipped into a gentle mush, it takes you a moment to reply
  670. "T... that kiss wasn't a gift?"
  671. >The purple pony giggles and scoops up the white thing that had caused her fall
  672. >"No, silly! That's a special greeting from me to you! This is because I think you're finally ready!"
  673. "Ready for what?"
  674. >She beams and wags her extended forelegs at you
  675. >You pluck the thing from her and hold it up
  676. >It's...
  677. "...Is this an apron?"
  678. >"It IS! It is! Since you walk on two legs most of the time, this style of apron will fit you a ton better!"
  679. >Without much thought, you slip it on and tie it tight
  680. >While Aunt Twilight can just zap your clothing to clean them, it would be nice to no longer have to bother her nearly as much
  681. "It fits pretty well... what's the occasion?"
  682. >"You're gonna sell your first batch of cupcakes!"
  683. "Wait, what?!"
  684. >In between games of Truth and Dare, nap times and other things done together, you've baked probably dozens of things now
  685. >Usually when Aunt Twilight says that she wants to watch and try out your latest attempts
  686. >To be honest, it feels like you learning to bake was only her secondary goal
  687. "Am I going to be ready? I mean we're talking about selling them! If they aren't good, it's gonna be bad isn't it?"
  688. >Pinkie nuzzles your shoulder
  689. >Getting taller hasn't stopped her
  690. >"That's why I'm gonna still help! But I'm just gonna watch, ok? No hooves, it's all gonna be hand-made!"
  691.
  692. >Apron?
  693. >Check
  694. >Hair net?
  695. >Check
  696. >Utensils?
  697. >Check
  698. >Cook book with a lot of scribbles and notes in them by Aunt Twilight?
  699. >Double check
  700. >You set it on the book stand and flip it to her favorite chapter: Cooking with Flower: Power Flour and Recipes in an Hour!
  701. >A little scribble underneath it reads "always sweet, never sour!"
  702. >Thanks Aunt Twilight
  703. "Alright..."
  704. >You keep glancing over to Pinkie Pie
  705. >She's watching you with a comfortable smile
  706. >You've never actually cooked from start to finish by herself
  707. >Acting like Applejack did that one time she cooked in public at a faire, you face her and clear your throat
  708. "Today, I will be making rose mare-y cupcakes with an extra helping of cinnamon. Which is..."
  709. >Her eyes light up at your presentation
  710. "Which is... uh..."
  711. >You falter
  712. >Were those chopped up and left as little shreds or ground up and left as chunks?
  713. "Which is... e-especially delicious! I can't get enough of it and neither can you!"
  714. >"Yaaay!"
  715. >Pinkie applauds your recovery
  716. >You still don't remember the exact detail but that's what the book is for
  717. "Without further interruption, let's get started!"
  718. >You triple check your work nearly every step
  719. >The few times you make a mistake, Pinkie saves you by asking a question about the process
  720. >You really aren't used to it but the way she watches you and subtly hints at the right course of action, she really is a pro
  721. >She isn't like Aunt Twilight where she'll tell you that you're wrong
  722. >She... kinda jokes about it
  723. >Like making a funny face and turning green if she catches you grab salt instead of sugar
  724. >Or more flour instead of baking soda
  725. >You've really come to respect her craft, even if she makes it look easy
  726. >You wonder where she learned it from
  727. >Mr. and Mrs. Cake sure seem to be skilled in their own ways
  728. >Maybe you can learn to stand out too
  729. >Your worries melt as you work, replaced with practiced motions and gestures
  730. >And letting Pinkie steal a tiny bit of a taste
  731. "And now, ta-da! One dozen in the oven with enough to make another three!"
  732. >You kneel and pose in front of the oven to the raucous applause of one pony
  733. >Maybe watching that weird traveling magician wasn't such a bad idea after all
  734. >"Yay Nonny, you're amazing! What are you gonna do for the icing?"
  735. "Oh that's easy, I-"
  736. >...
  737. >...
  738. >...
  739. "H-hold on a second."
  740. >You mumble and re-read the section in it's entirety
  741. >There's
  742. "T... there's no part about icing. These are the shortbread ones, aren't they? Aunt Twilight's favorites?"
  743. >"They are! Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut if you wanna sell them, most ponies love icing!"
  744. "...oh."
  745. >Ah crap
  746. >So caught up in your ways, you forgot the actual purpose of doing all of this
  747.
  748. "I... uh. Can I... do something else?"
  749. >Pinkie's cartoonishly long gasp sounds almost like a balloon deflating in reverse
  750. >"What are you cooking up in that head of yours, Nonny?!"
  751. "I... uh."
  752. >Think, Anon
  753. >What do ponies like to eat with cupcakes
  754. "G-garnish?"
  755. >You speak the first word that comes to mind
  756. >You only know that word because Aunt Twilight made you do a book report on baking and other types of Canterlot-style cooking
  757. >"On cupcakes?!"
  758. >Pinkie's reaction, even if you're used to her, causes a lump to spike up in your throat
  759. >Double crap
  760. >Is that not allowed?
  761. "S-sure. Like... uh..."
  762. >Applejack and Applebloom use apples in everything
  763. "Sl... uh. Sliced apples? Or blueberries? Do we have any?"
  764. >Those are really the only things you can think of that would look nice on a barren cupcake
  765. >Pinkie rolls across the floor while her head remains aghast and facing you
  766. >"You're crazy! Cinnamon and apples and blueberries is a crazy idea!"
  767. >While she repeatedly calls you crazy, she barrel rolls out of sight
  768. >You are not sure what you should feel but you can't help but smile as you hear her cry out "crazy!" even when out of sight
  769. >She rolls back to where she was, repeating herself like a parrot
  770. >In the blur of pink, a basket of apples and blueberries pops out
  771. >"CRAZY I SAY, CRAAAAAAAAZYYYYY-oh, also you have super good timing! I didn't even know we had those. They look super fresh too!"
  772. "I-wha-how...?"
  773. >You're floored
  774. >How in the world did she have those ready?
  775. >Her answer is a huge smile with a squee
  776. "Well... ok then..."
  777. >Regaining your focus, you decide to go all in with the crazy
  778. >You have enough for three batches so you decide to go for three ideas
  779. >When the first batch comes out, they'll have four blueberries surrounding an apple wedge
  780. >Then the second batch: mashed into a paste and covering the top
  781. >The third batch, you...
  782. >Triple crap
  783. >What can you even do with that?
  784. >In your excitement, you mashed all of the remaining apples and blueberries together
  785. >Pinkie has been watching in abject glee
  786. "F-for this third batch, I..."
  787. >You can't do the same thing twice, can you?
  788. >What if ponies don't like it?
  789. >Then you'll have wasted two thirds!
  790. "Am... going to..."
  791. >You rub your thumbs and index fingers together
  792. >As much as you like looking into Pinkie's eyes, you're a little too stressed to get that type of distracted
  793. "Fill them?"
  794. >Pinkie gasps so much her head pops into confetti
  795. >It then pokes out from her neck
  796. >She stares at you and whispers the most quiet "ᶜ ʳ ᵃ ᶻ ʸ ᵎ" you've ever heard
  797. >It is crazy, but you're out of ideas and you desperately want to succeed
  798. >By the time the third batch finishes, you apprehensively hang back and let the master baker appraise your work
  799. >The first batch came out a little on the dark side
  800. >Even for shortbread
  801. >The second batch was less dark, but the mashed fruit is uneven
  802. >The third...
  803. >You may have went a little fill-crazy on some
  804.
  805. >"Let's see if they sell! I'll set them up, you go outside and advertise!"
  806. >Now you're advertising too?!
  807. >This isn't at all what you were expecting
  808. >Without thinking to take off your hairnet and apron, and still pockmarked with flour and cinnamon, you go outside
  809. >Unsure of what to do, you awkwardly stand in front of the bakery
  810. >Not a second before you decide to walk back inside, a minty green unicorn trots up to you
  811. >You relax out of reflex
  812. >Maybe unicorns just help ease your mind because of Aunt Twilight
  813. >"Oh, wow! You're Twilight's co-er-boy! A human, right?"
  814. "W-why... yeah. I am!"
  815. >You can only guess that you hesitated due to your inability to immediately sell a product
  816. >"She was right, you are adorable! And you smell just as sweet!"
  817. "Y... yeah?"
  818. >You give an awkward laugh and tug at the top of your apron
  819. "Thank you. I just got done baking my first batch and thought that-"
  820. >"Wait a moment! You made some sweets?"
  821. >She sounds more impressed than anything else
  822. "...yeah?"
  823. >"Hand made?"
  824. >How else would you make them?
  825. "That... that's right."
  826. >"Wow, I'm jealous! Who's it for, do you got yourself a little filly friend?"
  827. >Her grin and leer causes a nervous laugh
  828. "W-wha? No, nah, not me. It's for..."
  829. >You clear your throat again
  830. >If this wasn't about making money, you really don't believe it would feel so weird
  831. "For... sale."
  832. >Her eyebrows raise
  833. >"Really! They have a sweet thing like you making stuff to sell already... well, I just gotta check them out!"
  834. >She walks right past you and into the bakery, but not without giving you another glance from behind
  835. >Did you just sell something?
  836. >You sigh and look down at the ground
  837. "...well that was weird..."
  838. >Is running a bakery always so stressful?
  839. >"What's weird, Anon?"
  840. "Well I gotta sell the cupcakes I made and I don't think I did a good job."
  841. >"Why don't you think you did a good job? You followed the instructions, right?"
  842. "Of course I did, Au-"
  843. >This voice sounds too familiar
  844. >You look up
  845. >Aunt Twilight is right there, smirking at you
  846. "Aunt Twilight!"
  847. >You shamelessly latch on and hug her with all of your might
  848. >You hear at least one "awww" from a passing pony
  849. "Check it out! I made one of your favorite recipes and they've got blueberries and apples and cinnamon an-"
  850. >"Whoa there, Anon! You had me at "your favorite". Come on, let's go see what you made."
  851. >Apparently your show of affection and more earnest explanation caused a few ponies to follow you inside because by the time you get to the glass displays, there are enough to start a minor ambient wave of talking
  852. >"Twilight's human actually knows how to bake!"
  853. >"Think he could cook dinner too?"
  854. >"Why are there flour hoof prints on his clothes?"
  855. >The minty unicorn is talking to Pinkie about something
  856. >"Nonny, your first sale! Lyra bought two... of each!"
  857. "Of each!?"
  858. >Lyra gives you a wink
  859. >"Pinkie let me have a sample and they're the best things I've ever eaten! So I'm gonna try out one of each, and then the other set is for a friend."
  860.
  861. >"Did you hear that?"
  862. >"Two of each?"
  863. >"How many is left?"
  864. >"Can I watch him knead dough later?"
  865. >That seemed to set of the small crowd
  866. >Shocked to the point of being frozen stiff, you watch the three dozen cupcakes dwindle down to only four by the end of it
  867. >Some ponies didn't even ask for a box but would just eat it then and there and then pay
  868. >Two even tipped!
  869. >"Alright, make sure to come back next time! He's a little baking genius!"
  870. >Pinkie screeches out, waving so hard her foreleg blurs
  871. "Holy crap."
  872. >"Language."
  873. >Aunt Twilight whispers a reminder to you, having stood back to watch it all happen
  874. >With only so many left, she puffs out her chest and confidently strides to the counter
  875. >"Good day, Pinkie Pie. I've heard that my precious little Anon made some cupcakes. Can I see what he made?"
  876. >"Hiya, Twilight! Yeah, Nonny made all of these all on his own!"
  877. >You raise up a finger in an effort to mention how she found the fruit but she squints down hard
  878. >"And he's craaaaaaaaaz-eeeeeeeeeeee... he didn't even follow the recipe completely!"
  879. >Twilight gasps
  880. >"He didn't follow the book completely?!"
  881. >Oh no
  882. >If there's one pony who has a strong dislike for things being out of order, it's Aunt Twilight
  883. >"He didn't! Look at them! He said that he was making cupcakes but some of them look more like tarts! TARTS!"
  884. >Looking at the four remaining, there is only two from the second and two from the third batch
  885. >The third batch remaining pair are overfilled and starting to leak a tiny bit
  886. >Your studious aunt tilts her head at the leaking pastry
  887. >"What did he do with these?"
  888. >"Oh! Nonny went full nutty coo-coo and stuffed them. He's a natural puffy pastry pumper!"
  889. >Aunt Twilight's head recoils
  890. >Her purple face turns red
  891. >"E-excuse me?"
  892. >"Here, try one!"
  893. >You watch
  894. >In slow motion
  895. >As Pinkie scoops up the messiest stuffed cake
  896. >And flings it into Aunt Twilight's mouth
  897. >The manic joy in Pinkie's bright blue eyes is far too capitvating
  898. >Time resumes when she speaks up
  899. >"Come on, tell us how it is! It was used with the last of his load! Of filling!"
  900. >Aunt Twilight sputters something out but decides to focus on eating
  901. >You wait with the weight of the world on your shoulders
  902. >Aunt Twilight's face turns more red
  903. >Pinkie remains as pleased as can be
  904. >She swallows hard enough that even you can hear it
  905. >"Pinkie... you know better than to say things like that in front of him."
  906. >"Nonny, ask her what she thought about your load!"
  907. >"Pinkie!"
  908. "S... so..."
  909. >They both focus on you
  910. "Is that... still your favorite recipe? I had some actual roses I added in."
  911. >Aunt Twilight nods, giving you her special kind of smile
  912. >It was the sort of smile she always gave you when you succeeded in a test
  913. >Apparently tests are different than quizzes, but they feel the same to you
  914. >"I would say that you passed with flying colors! Pinkie, I think I'll take the one with the fruit glaze. That'll leave two for you."
  915. >"Bingo! Nonny, we just sold out!"
  916. "We did?"
  917. >That was easy
  918.
  919. >"Now come home once you're done with clean up, ok? And for that apron, I want you to leave that with Pinkie. She can clean it, and it'll be easy for you to find it again later."
  920. "Will do!"
  921. >"I'm proud of you, Anon. And here I thought she was lying about teaching you things... or something else. It has been ok, hasn't it?"
  922. >Aunt Twilight gives you a suspicious look
  923. >Outside of that sort of special greeting...
  924. "Y-yeah, of course! I acted like that one pony with the magic show."
  925. >"Trixie?"
  926. "I knew I remembered her name somewhere!"
  927. >Now if only you could remember any of her actual tricks
  928. >"Ugh... well... she can be fun to watch sometimes. But don't believe that all of those tricks are real. And don't ask her about any ursa majors."
  929. >What was that?
  930. "I... sure...?"
  931. >Aunt Twilight pecks your forehead
  932. >"You did great, come home before nightfall."
  933. >With that, she trots off
  934. >Given her pace, she's probably busy herself with something
  935. >With your chest only just now swelling with some sense of accomplishment, you walk back into Sugarcube Corner like you're the best
  936. >You sold not one, not even a dozen, but three dozen cupc...
  937. >Tart...?
  938. >Whatever those were
