>What is the Mare Gallery?
-
The Mare Gallery is a constantly changing art exhibition that travels to various conventions and showcases the work of pony-centric artists. Our goal is to give as many of these artists as possible an opportunity to step into the spotlight and show the community what they’re capable of.
-
-
All of the art donated to the Gallery is auctioned off for charity at the end of each convention, with at least a portion going towards supporting small horse rescues around the country.
-
-
>How do I get my art in the Gallery?
-
We usually reach out on /mlp/ or the Twitter account @MareGallery when we're looking for additional artists. You'll need to keep an eye on those channels and put in an application when you see them go live.
-
-
>What types of art are accepted?
-
Subject Matter: You have a lot of freedom on your subject matter, so long as it's mare-related. That said, if your art includes nsfw/fetish material or political/religious themes, please let me know the general subject and character(s) you have in mind as you're fleshing out the idea. We’ll have to discuss those themes on a case-by-case basis.
-
-
Medium: Both digital and traditional pieces will be considered, but we are putting a heavy emphasis on traditional mediums. Seeing genuine paintings/drawings/sculptures/plushies/etc. from beloved community artists will give attendees a more unique experience than a collection of digital prints. If you have any concerns about working with or shipping traditional art, let us know and we'll see what we can work out.
-
-
Size: The Gallery’s goal is to showcase a wide variety of art comprised of all shapes and sizes and media types, so we’ll do our best to work with your vision. If you have an idea for an exceptionally large or small piece with nonstandard dimensions, ask us about it and we'll see if we can make it work.
-
-
Frames: We are happy to frame any standard-sized art pieces, but you're free to provide them in frames if you prefer.
-
-
>How do I submit finished art?
-
When you sign up for an exhibition, a deadline for the art's completion should be communicated to you. Typically this deadline will be about 6-8 weeks prior to the convention's start date, as it takes time to make sure everything gets framed and ready for display. When your piece is complete, just let us know through any channel of communication we've been using and we'll work out transport logistics.
-
-
>Can I keep my art afterwards?
-
By default, all donated pieces will be auctioned off for charity. We may offer some people the option to temporarily lend items to the exhibit, but that’s exceedingly rare.
-
-
>Is there any kind of monetary reward for donating?
-
No, due to the already high cost of running the exhibit, all pieces on display must be donated or lent to us. That said, all the auction profits will go to charity.
