She slides the file cabinet closed and chuckles.

"Anon it's ok to drop the Ms. when we're alone."

Twenty, plain, janitor, and friends with the vice.

One day you saw here struggling with some boxes in her car and you decided to help her, after the last bell she pulled you aside and with her sister thanked you. From then on she would greet you in the morning and you'd put some time aside to help her with whatever she needed. Brownie points with the school heads will pay out in the end, you can feel it.

She's pretty cool all things considered, not as icy as the students say she is.

>"Sorry, force of habit. I gotta head out now, see you Monday Luna."

"W-wait, do you have any plans for the weekend?"

This is a first. Your hand stops on the knob as you quickly think it over. Enjoy your weekend or work on more papers.

Noticing the hesitation she clears her throat.

"Apologies, that was rather rude of me to ask so suddenly."

>"Oh no it's fine, I was just surprised you still have work to do over the weekend."

Her eyes widen as she waves you off.

"It's nothing like that! You've been such a great help and it feels wrong not to reward such behavior."

>"Reward?"

Luna scoots on her chair towards the desk and sits in her 'work' pose.

"Yes, sister thinks that it's only fair as do I. So if you don't have anything scheduled..."

Screw that, sounds like free food to you!

>"No I don't."

Luna's face brightens clapping her hands together.

"Lovely, I have the perfect place in mind!"

She pulls out a post-it stack and writes down something, pulling it off and handing it to you.

It's an address.

"This is where we live, be there by eleven tomorrow. Have a lovely day Anon, I've held you long enough."

You give a nod and head out the door, walking down the empty halls looking over the note.

Hell yeah! This is it! Pay raise city baby!

Steping outside the sun sets over the parking lot in a warm orange glow, the last two cars shining in the light... you b-line to the bike racks and unlock your trusty e-bike.

Worth every penny.

Zoomin out the lot you then go about the usual motions when off duty and think about what you'll do for dinner.

Feels like a Pork roll kind of day.

 

Feels weird going the bosses house, but today is your big break. Knocking on the door you think of how you should pop the question about a raise but don't even get a second when the door swings open.

"Why hello."

"You're here early Anon. I'll let Luna know, come in."

She let's you in and damn. It's a pretty nice place they got here, like an Ikea display without the smell. Wish you had a house like this and not the apartment...

"Sit anywhere you like."

She grabs a towel hanging off the handrail of the stairs and heads on up, leaving you alone.

No. Bad. Don't fuck this up. You only got ONE chance at this. But that dosen't mean you can't look for conversation starters.

Scanning the living room you take note of the little decorative statues and plants, all bright in color. Gives you a sunny kinda vibe, but the photos on a mantle catch your eye.

Usual fair of the middle aged woman.

Pictures of plants and animals, with one photo of what must be their parents. All of them smiling with Celestia in the middle, but Luna isn't in it.

In fact you don't see any photos with Luna. Reaching the mantles end you see a small lineup of books with one bigger than the others with hoop clips along the spine.

Album ahoy.

Before being able to sneak a peak you hear clambering, making you jolt onto the couch.

"Sorry for the wait, sister took her sweet time with the bathroom."

Deep blue turtle neck, pleated grey ankle skirt, and her hair in a ponytail.

She adjusts the neck and walks over to you.

*sigh* "It's been getting so chilly lately..."

Standing up you head for the door with Luna following.

>"Nah, it's only like a ten minute walk here."

"I'm sorry, I should've just picked you up at your place."

Her car unlocks and the both of you slide into inside.

>"I need the exercise, where are we headin?"

"It's a little diner I go to sometimes after work, you'll love it."

The ride was quiet mostly, occasionally you'd break the silence with a comment about things along the street. Luna looks stiff, her focus not leaving the road and rubbing her thumb on the wheel.

Soon she pulls up to a quaint looking place, it has a rustic look with a dangling sign over the door. You head out the care and the name on the sign catches your eye.

>"The hell is that name?"

"I know right? I tried asking about it but never got a straight answer."

She leads you inside and the smell hits you like a freight train.

"Well I'll be, finally brought someone other than Celly?"

A man with an impressive mustache gestures over from behind the counter. Sick suspenders too.

"Come off it Hash, I told you about today."

He gufaws and looks over at you, hand reaching over.

"Hash, proud owner. You son?"

Giving a firm shake you reply.

>"Anon sir, and is that corn bread I'm smelling?"

You swear his eyes sparkled.

"Right you are! The missus does it fresh every day, how's about we get you two seated and I'll bring out some for ya!"

Leading you the counter he hands you some menus and goes to the window.

"Two bricks hun!"

Luna opens her menu and you do the same, perusing the options and looking for the right opportunity. She just needs to initiate the conversation.

That raise will be yours.

"Fresh from the oven, on me! Ready to order?"

Looking up from the menu the see two plates of golden crumbly heaven. Like a kid you slide a plate over and dig in.

So fucking goooooood!!!

You've only ever eaten store brand, this blows it out of the water! It's like a warm hug from grandma in bread form!

"...and you so- well hot damn!"

Looking up you notice the owner with a wide grin on his face.

"It's like you never had a meal in weeks!"

Your plate is clean. Within seconds you wolfed down a brick of bread.

>"f-fried steak and gravy with a water please..."

Luna looks like she's gonna piss herself stifling her laughter, the plan is already going down the shitter. He grabs the menus and goes to handle the other customers.

"Never had country?"

>"In a Hungry Man."
