Expiry: Never

  1. >You smiled as the credits played.
  2. >The last episode had just ended. It was April 2026, 15 years and some months after Season 1, Episode 1 had aired.
  3. >The final big season long arc hadn't been about some big boss, a friend turning evil, or even something shark-jumpey like killing off a character.
  4. >Instead, the last 7 episodes focused on concerns the Mane 6 had with eachother.
  5. >They were afraid they were growing apart, that after enough time they would forget about each other, go on with their lives and that would be it.
  6. >It was kind of cute and cliche how the final episode ended, with Twilight saying how no matter what happens, even if they all move to the ends of Equestria, that their friendship was something that would trancend space and time for all of eternity.
  7. >And the episode ended not with any big celebration, but with shots of the characters going on with their days as the sun set, with the main theme playing slowly in the background.
  8. >Pinkie, Dash, and Fluttershy sat on the roof, watching the sunset.
  9. >Twilight and Spike were talking with Cheerlilee.
  10. >Rarity was walking with Sweetiebelle and Scootaloo.
  11. >And Applejack was as selling apples, as expected.
  12. >And as the screen faded to black, Derpy appeared for one final moment, giving a wink to the audience before the screen faded again for good.
  13. >/mlp/ was going to complain it was pandering at it's finest and ruined the ending, but you liked it.
  14. >As the credits ended and commercials started, you knew that that was it.
  15. >My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic had ended for good.
  16. >The show had had some close calls in the past.
  17. >You remembered how Larson had originally wanted the show to end with Twilight becoming a princess.
  18. >But Hasbro and the show writers made it clear this time that this was it.
  19. >You didn't want to believe it.
  20. >You got up from your chair and looked out the window.
  21. >It was only 12:30 PM on a Saturday. There was no way you were going to get anything done the rest of the day after how you felt.
  22. >You crawled back into bed and wished the world didn't exist.
  23. >You wished you could stay in bed forever. You hoped no one would at least bother you for the rest of the day.
  24. >You felt a tugging on the blanket covering your head.
  25. >"Daddy?"
  26. >Oh shit right. You weren't a 20 something college student anymore. You got married and had kids and shit. If you had told yourself before 2010 that you would love My Little Pony and still be able to attract a woman to marry you, you would have said, "fuck off gay faggot."
  27. >Edgy 2009 you had such a way with words.
  28. >You felt the tugging again.
  29. >"Daddy, are you ok under there?"
  30. >You peaked out from under the blanket. Your little 7 year old daughter was looking at you with a concerned look on her face, holding the Book Horse plushie you gave her when she was born.
  31. >It was your Twilight plushie, you had originally commissioned it many years prior, but you thought she would enjoy it since it had been cast off to the closet when you got married.
  32. >A pony plush wouldn't fit onto the bed with you and your wife.
  33. >You hadn't tried fucking it.
  34. >THANK GOD.
  35. >You put on a happy face for your daughter.
  36. "No sunshine, why would you think that?"
  37. >She held the pony close to her chest and looked at the floor.
  38. >"Well, mommy told me not to bother you, she said that today was the last day you were going to see your best friend, and that you were going to be sad when they were gone."
  39. >She looked up at you.
  40. >"I know that would make me sad."
  41. >She held out the plushie to you.
  42. >"So I thought Sparkly would help you feel better!"
  43. >You took the plush and placed it next to you in bed.
  44. >She still seemed worried as you did so.
  45. >"Are you sad daddy?"
  46. >You thought for a bit before you responded.
  47. "Yes. Very. But I'll be fine."
  48. >This didn't seem to help your daughter.
  49. >"You don't sound like you're telling the truth."
  50. >And you weren't. You thought about what Twilight would think if she saw you moping like this. She certainly would be dissapointed, and would probably throw the friendship book at you.
  51. "I'm gonna miss them. I'm gonna miss them a lot in fact, but this friend told me that sitting around being sad forever is no way to remember them. They said that no matter what happens, even if they we moved to the ends of Eques-the world, that our friendship was something that would trancend space and time for all of eternity."
  52. >You sat up to regain some sort of dignified look.
  53. "And above all, they said that our friendship was something to be cherished and celebrated in memory, not something cry over when it's gone."
  54. >"But how do you do that daddy?"
  55. >You smiled.
  56. "Well, we do things that they loved to do. I know they liked ice cream and picking apples at the orchard. Do you like ice cream and picking apples at the orchard?"
  57. >"Wow! That's like my favorite two things ever!"
  58. "You and my friend actually have a lot in common. Let's just say you two would make great friends."
  59. >She started jumping up and down in excitement.
  60. >"Can I ride the ponies there too?"
  61. >You got out of bed and kissed her on the forehead.
  62. "Only if you're good."
  63. >She smiled and gave you a hug.
  64. >"I love you daddy."
  65. "I love you too Celeste. Now, go get your sister. I'll meet you in the living room in a few minutes."
  66. >Celeste ran down the hallway, you could just make out her voice.
  67. >"Luna, guess where we're going!"
  68. >As you got changed, you glanced toward the Twilight plushie still sitting on your bed.
  69. >All those hours of shitposting on /mlp/, all the pages of stupid fanfiction you've read, all the money you spent on figurines that are gathering dust at your parent's place right now, it almost felt like it meant nothing.
  70. >Almost.
  71. >Like it or not, you knew that you were who you were today because of the ponies.
  72. >You remembered how the ponies treated Zecora at first when they didn't know her.
  73. >And because of that, you took a chance on the new guy at work who didn't speak much English. Because of your friendship and encouragement he now worked as a translator for the local government, and you two still get a beer every Friday.
  74. >You remembered how Fluttershy had to overcome her fears of embarassment when she had to help supply wing-power to get water to Cloudsdale.
  75. >And because of that, you took a chance and asked your future wife out to dinner.
  76. >You remembered how Rarity and Sweetie Belle didn't always get along, but it took teamwork and acceptance.
  77. >And because of that, you reached out to your brother whom you hadn't talked to in years.
  78. >Who knew a schmuck like you would be able to learn so much from a few pastel ponies?
  79. >You picked Twilight up and held her close, a single tear running down your cheek.
  80. "Thank you."
