  2. Original author: Anon*
  3.
  4. > “And what’s that one, Maud?” You point towards a red and white striped rock.
  5. > “That’s agate. Agate is a crystal made mostly of alternating layers of quartz and chalcedony.” Maud replies in her signature monotone.
  6. > You smile and nod, happy to be spending time with you friend, even all you are doing is talking about rocks.
  7. > Not to get you wrong or anything, you do find rocks interesting, maybe not so much as kites, but still, they are fun to know about.
  8. > Just they aren’t as great as kites.
  9. > Kites are waaaay better than rocks.
  10. > You pause and give the agate one last look before chasing after Maud.
  11. > ‘It’s nice spending time with her like this.’ You think to yourself.
  12. > Looking over at Maud, you see her staring intently at a crack on the ceiling.
  13. > You can really tell that she is having fun too!
  14. > Your smile once more as you happily trot after the stoic Pie sister.
  15. > Just as you catch up to Maud, she suddenly stops in her tracks.
  16. > The earth pony takes out her beloved Boulder from her dress pocket and places him upon a slab of marbled, metallic stone.
  17. > Maud then proceeds to stare intently at rock before mumbling something to her Boulder buddy.
  18. > You have never seen Maud study a rock so much!
  19. > “What’s that, Maud?” You point towards the rippled stone, allowing your curiosity to get the better of you.
  20. > Maud Pie takes a few more seconds to stare at the slab before turning to you.
  21. > “It’s a type of inosilicate.” She says simply.
  22. > You wait for her to continue.
  23. > It’s not unusual for Maud to leave things out when she talks, she always needs a little goading when it comes to things like this.
  24. > Honestly, you find it kind of endearing.
  25. > Maud looks into your eyes for a few seconds and nods “I found it interesting because there shouldn’t be a deposit that large around here, there isn’t enough calcium.”
  26. > You nod in support of what she said.
  27. > You don’t really have to understand what’s interesting about that to know that whatever it is it’s important to her.
  28. > Just as you are about to ask why the rock is in here, a shrill, sugar-laced voice rings through-out the cave.
  29. > “MAUUUUUUUD! MAUUUUUUUD ARE YOU IN HERE!?~”
  30. > You instantly recognize the peppy chirping to be Maud’s sister and one of your closest friends, Pinkie Pie.
  31. > Like a bolt of pink lightning, Pinkie appears before the two of you.
  32. > The sudden appearance of the cotton candy wonder has you taking a few startled steps back.
  33. > Maud on the other hoof is unfazed by her sister’s antics, most probably due to over exposure if anything else.
  34. > “Hello there Pinkie. You need me for something?” Maud says in a monotonous yet sisterly kind of way.
  35. > “Absolutely!” Pinkie chirps happily.
  36. > Pinkie speaks in a Pinkie kind of way; too quickly for you to understand most of what she says but just slow enough for you to able to get bits and pieces of the conversation.
  37. > “Rarity”, “Can’t wait any longer”, “Dick…”
  38. > Wait, what?
  39. > Before you have time to ask Maud about whatever it was that Pinkie told her, she turns to you and says something to you that you would never have thought she would say.
  40. > “Starlight, I have to go and take care of Rarity’s cave. If you are still interested in cumming tonight then we can talk about it later before the movie.”
  41. > And with that Maud trots off after Pinkie, leaving you stunned, shocked and utterly gob smacked.
  42. > Your mind is swimming.
  43. > You feel like you have been blasted with a disorientation spell.
  44. > It takes you a few minutes and a lot of inner will power before you are able to move again.
  45. > “Maud just hit on me…” You mumble slowly as you make your way out of the cave and out into the cool, open air.
  46. > Maud… wants to rub tectonic plates with you!
  47. > Well that and she’s rutting Rarity.
  48. > But now’s not the time for that! Now’s the time to focus on the fact that your friend wants to make your “bedrock”.
  49. > Okay, that one was bad.
  50. > Lost in thought, you make your way back towards Ponyville, ignoring the noise of the town and the clamor of the ponies therein.
  51. > You think about what it is that you are going to do about Maud and how you are going to save your friendship with her.
  52. > Also about how many more geology sex innuendos you have in you.
  53. ---------
  54. > PFFFFFTT!
  55. > “Maud said what?!” Trixie does a dramatic spit take.
  56. > Thankfully you were able to hastily erect a shield in front of you, catching the all of the Trixie spit-water before it hits you.
  57. > You frown and dissolve the shield.
  58. > “She said that if I was interested in cumming tonight I should talk to her before movie night.” You grumble, annoyed at the fact that you have to explain this to Trixie once again.
  59. > Trixie flops onto her bed and laughs a roaring, schadenfreude filled laugh.
  60. > You blush and huff as Trixie has her moment of rolling around and laughing at you.
  61. > Trixie squeaks and tumbles around.
  62. > Seeing that the blue mare wasn’t anywhere close to stopping, you levitate a pillow above her oblivious and round rump before mercilessly bashing her in with the fluffy instrument of murder.
  63. > Trixie lets out a surprised yelp before trying to fight back, her horn glows with the soft pink glow of her magic.
  64. > Too bad she’s kind of clumsy with her magic.
  65. > She tries to grab the pillow a few times, but your skill and speed are just too much for her.
  66. > You give Trixie a few good smacks before you letting go of the pillow, allowing it to fall on her face.
  67. > You can’t help but giggle a little at the sorry state of Trixie’s mane.
  68. > Trixie gets up and glares at you.
  69. > You glare back.
  70. > “Fine, Trixie gets it. It’s not funny.” Trixie pouts as she tries to undo the damage you’ve done to her mane.
  71. > “It isn’t. Now help me Trixie.”
  72. > The blue mares pout disappears; she takes a few more seconds to fix her mane before moving her hoof to her chin and posing in a mock thinking pose.
  73. > Trixie sits like that for a few seconds, thinking silently about your problem.
  74. > “Are you sure it isn’t a misunderstanding?” She says as she lets her hoof drop.
  75. > “What? No, I heard her as clear as day. She wants to get into my crevice!” You cry out.
  76. > “But don’t you have –“
  77. > “Yeah I do!” You whine as you fall onto Trixie’s lap.
  78. > Trixie strokes your mane as you grumble into her.
  79. > This small bonding moment lasts a few minutes.
  80. > As you stew in despair, Trixie says something that utterly shocks you; Trixie says something helpful.
  81. > “Why don’t you just tell Maud that you aren’t interested in her like that and that you want to stay friends?”
  82. > At first you want to contradict Trixie, but once you give her suggestion enough thought you come to realization that there is absolutely nothing wrong in doing just that.
  83. > If anything it’s the perfect solution.
  84. > Sure you could blast her with some kind of magic spell, but your track record with using magic to solve friendship problems isn’t exactly the best.
  85. > You shove out the flashbacks of your repeated magic blunders and get back on topic.
  86. > Maud is a great mare! You are one-hundred percent sure that there’s a mare somewhere out there that will make her happy.
  87. > But that mare isn’t you.
  88. > You are going to tell Maud that you don’t want to let her explore your cave.
  89. > “You are right for once, Trixie! I’m going to tell Maud that I am not interested in grinding granite with her and that I just want to be friends.” You puff out your chest as you exclaim victoriously.
  90. > “Grind granite? That was terrible.” Trixie sticks her tongue out at you, but you ignore her, too busy celebrating the fact that you now have a solution to your dilemma.
  91. > Landing on all fours, you make your way towards the trailer door.
  92. > “No problem, Starlight! Glad the Great and Powerful Trrrixie could be of assistance.” Trixie does a little pose as you step out of the her home.
  93. > “Wait, what do you mean ‘for once’?”
  94. > You chose to ignore Trixie’s question as you run towards the Crystal Castle.
  95. > You need to get ready for the night ahead.
  96. -----------
  97. > That evening.
  98. > It has been a few hours since you left Trixie’s trailer.
  99. > It would be lying if you said you weren’t at all nervous.
  100. > You aren’t JUST nervous, you are terrified.
  101. > Maud is one of the few friends that you have made by yourself and you don’t want to lose her.
  102. > You don’t want to lose another friend.
  103. > KNOCK. KNOCK.
  104. > The sound of hoof hitting crystal startles you out of your thoughts.
  105. > You look towards the grandfather clock sitting by the bookcase.
  106. > It says that it’s half past seven.
  107. > Movie time.
  108. > Jumping off the couch, you speedily trot towards the castle entrance.
  109. > Your hooves make sharp clacking sounds as they hit the crystal floor.
  110. > Just as you round the corner, you find Spike standing by the door, letting in several mares.
  111. > Trixie, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Maud.
  112. > You freeze for a split second before regaining your composure and smiling.
  113. > Well, at least TRYING to smile.
  114. > It comes out as a horrible awkward and uncomfortable half-grin.
  115. > The girls take notice of this and they give you a ‘smile’ back.
  116. > “Hello Starlight. Are you ready for tonight’s BIG show? ~” Trixie says in an impish, sing-song voice.
  117. > She wears a smug, teasing look on her face, waiting for you to respond to her obvious provocation.
  118. > You make a mental note to try out a few mane altering spells on her later, but for now you just have to hold it in.
  119. > “Sure am, Triskie.” You reply, growling through your teeth.
  120. > Rainbow Dash shoots over you and beams.
  121. > “Aww yeah, what movie are we seeing tonight, Star?” Rainbows says while she hovers over your head.
  122. > “Oooh, I hope it’s something spooky! I’m in the mood for a good scare! I want to eat your brains! Let me bite you Trixie!” Pinkie chimes in as she adopts a Frankenstein pose and chases an agitated Trixie.
  123. > Trixie never did like scary movies.
  124. > Serves her right.
  125. > You watch as Pinkie settles your debt with Trixie for a few satisfying seconds before turning your attention towards Maud Pie.
  126. > The silent and stony mare gives you a small nod before motioning towards the living room.
  127. > She doesn’t say a word; not because she’s is acting doesn’t want to, no, it’s because can’t.
  128. > Maud trots along, carrying a small, black wooden box in her mouth.
  129. > You want to ask what she has in the box but having Maud suddenly take the lead leaves you a bit disoriented.
  130. > Not finding an opportunity to question her, you silently follow behind the mare, waiting for the best time to have that ‘chat’ with her.
  131. > Suddenly remembering your other guest, you take a quick look behind yourself come to see a scene consisting of a Pinkie Pie chasing Trixie through the halls while Spike and Rainbow watch from the sidelines, laughing.
  132. > ‘This is it!’ You think to yourself.
  133. > ‘Now is the best time to tell her that you aren’t interested in anything more than friendship’
  134. > You peek over at Maud and take notice of something.
  135. > The gray mare looks, for lack of a better word, haggard.
  136. > Her mane is slightly disheveled, wet strands stuck to her cheeks, and her hind legs look like wobbly jelly.
  137. > ‘She must have had an amazing time with Rarity.’ You conclude.
  138. > Your cheeks slightly flush at the thought of Maud and Rarity ‘spelunking’.
  139. > Maud suddenly stops walking just as you are about to delve deeper into the thought of her… mining Rarities gem cave.
  140. > The gray earth pony places the small box on the ground before turning to you.
  141. > “Cummingtonite—“
  142. > Your mind hits the breaks.
  143. > Your pupils dilate and your heart stops.
  144. > This is it, Glimmer. It’s show time.
  145. > You interrupt Maud before she has the chance to continue.
  146. > “Listen Maud, I’m flattered that you think of me that way, but I only want to be friends with you. I-I already have somepony that I like and I can’t—“
  147. > Maud stop listening to you, instead opting to dig through her box.
  148. > She pulls out a small, metallic rippled stone from within and holds it in her mouth.
  149. > Maud passes you the rock and you grab it with your teal colored magic, levitating it mid-air.
  150. > You momentarily forget what you are talking about, instead you find yourself drawn towards the odd little stone.
  151. > “What’s this?” You ask.
  152. > “It’s Cummingtonite. It is a type of inosilicate that’s commonly found in magnesium rich areas.” Maud says plainly.
  153. > You are still confused, but you listen attentively to Maud, waiting for her to continue her explanation.
  154. > “There was a large deposit in the cave earlier which I found odd since there shouldn’t have been any Cummingtonite in there. It was interesting.”
  155. > Cummingtonite is a rock?
  156. > You freeze.
  157. > Your mind goes a mile a minute as you begin to link everything together.
  158. > Maud stands there perfectly still, waiting for you patiently; she waits for you to finish thinking.
  159. > As you come to understand everything, you can only think of one course of action.
  160. > You hit yourself in the face with your hoof.
  161. > You are so stupid.
  162. > Cumming tonight. Cummingtonite is a rocks name.
  163. > A dumb rocks name.
  164. > A dumb, stupid rocks name made by dumb stupid ponies.
  165. > You can feel your face heat up in embarrassment as you come to realize your blunder.
  166. > Looking up at Maud, you can see what looks to be a small look of teasing smugness, something very similar to Trixies signature look.
  167. > Your face feels like it’s on fire.
  168. > “Ughh, I’m stupid aren’t I?”
  169. > Maud doesn’t say a word.
  170. > You groan and land on your rump.
  171. > Way to go Starlight. Way to make a big deal over a little misunderstanding.
  172. > As you are wallowing in self-loathing, you hear a small thud and feel soft shuffling next to you.
  173. > Looking to your right, you find Maud, sitting there by your side, just as silent as ever.
  174. > You smile and nudge her.
  175. > She doesn’t move.
  176. > Solid like a rock.
  177. > You smile even wider.
  178. > ‘At least the two of you are still friends, and that’s all that matters’ you think to yourself in relief.
  179. > Maud studies the small, evil, stupid stone of cummingtonite as she sits silently next to you.
  180. > You watch her watching the rock.
  181. > Seeing her like that reminds you of something.
  182. > “Hey Maud.” You call out to her.
  183. > Maud stops staring at the rock and looks over toyou.
  184. > “What was that Rarity thing all about. All I could gather from pinkie was that Rarity was impatient and… needed some dick?” You voice softens and you look away as you say those last words.
  185. > You are pretty sure that the last part was incorrect, but honestly you couldn’t really tell.
  186. > Maud says nothing.
  187. > You wait patiently for her to reply, giving her all the time she needs in order to voice herself.
  188. > It works.
  189. > “Rarity needed me to clear out one of her gem mines.” She says, pausing as she puts the chunk of cummingtonite back into its box. “The mine was full of dickite and she needed those gems for one of her dresses.” Maud says as she closes the lid.
  190. > And with that, everything falls into place.
  191. > Pinkie, Trixie and Rainbow Dash come in a few moments later, flushed with either anger or laughter.
  192. > They are surprised to see the two of you sitting on the floor but they don’t question it.
  193. > Maud is the first of the two of you to get up.
  194. > Dusting off her frock, she turns to you and lends you a hoof.
  195. > You happily take it and stand back up.
  196. > The rest of the girls smile and walk past the two of you, heading off to find their own places on the couch.
  197. > You and Maud follow suit.
  198. > “You don’t have to worry Starlight, —” Maud suddenly speaks up, catching you off guard “— only Bolder is hard enough to satisfy me.” Says Maud, loud enough for everyone to hear.
  199. > The room goes silent as Maud climbs up into her armchair and sits comfortably in her movie watching seat.
  200. > Pinkie giggles awkwardly while Rainbow Dash tries to hide her blush from everyone from behind her wings.
  201. > Trixie gives you a questioning look, but all you can do is reply with an equally confused shrug.
  202. > You all look at Maud for a few more seconds.
  203. > In that time she has taken out Bolder and has him sitting next to the small chunk of cummingtonite.
  204. > A pleased, almost-smile sits on the gray mares stone cold face.
  205.
  206. > End.
