Expiry: Never

  1. Dash leads you into the massive Weather Factory, weaving between busy pegasi as they go about their work. Massive turbines churn within, condensing water vapor and crafting it into various forms of weather.
  2.
  3. “This is where we’d make all the rain, snow and wind for Equestria,” Dash explains. “Weather patrols would come in and get their assignments for the day, then head out to distribute it across the land.”
  4.
  5. You gaze up at a towering cumulonimbus cloud, crackling with lightning and swollen with rain. Several pegasi are manipulating its size and intensity, ready to release it when the orders come in for a rainstorm.
  6.
  7. “Making the clouds is actually pretty easy,” Dash continues. “The hard part is getting the balance of ingredients just right for each type of weather. Too much moisture and you end up with a downpour, not enough and you just get drizzle.”
  8.
  9. She leads you over to another section, this one filled with glittering ice crystals and snow. “Winter unit. We’d have to carefully control the temperature and wind speeds here to get the perfect snowfall. I hated doing snow duty, it was always so cold!” Dash shivers at the memory.
  10.
  11. You watch in fascination as a team of pegasi work their magic, crafting delicate snowflakes and gusts of wind to scatter them. The air seems to shimmer around them, filled with residual magic.
  12.
  13. You and Dash don hard hats and goggles before entering the hail production area. She gives you a warning glance, shouting over the din, “Stay close to me! Hailstorms can get pretty wild.”
  14.
  15. You nod, following Dash as she leads you to a massive thunderhead. Several heavy-duty fans are blasting frigid air into its base, causing the water droplets within to freeze.
  16.
  17. “We control the size by how long we freeze the cloud,” Dash explains. “Longer equals bigger hailstones. But we have to be careful not to overdo it, or they can start damaging property!”
  18.
  19. The cloud rumbles ominously above, hailstones clattering against each other within. At a signal from the forepony, the fans blast the cloud with another burst of freezing air. The rumbling intensifies into a roar like rolling thunder.
  20.
  21. “Watch out!” Dash grabs your arm, yanking you back right as a barrage of hailstones burst from the cloud. They patter against the floor and machinery, some as large as apples. You stare up at the cloud in awe, flinching as another wave of hail bursts free.
  22.
  23. “Told you to stay close!” Dash smirks at you, eyes bright behind her goggles. “Hail duty was actually pretty fun. Dangerous, but fun! Nothing like dodging a few tonnes of ice to get the adrenaline pumping.”
  24.
  25. You laugh, shaking your head. “You and danger are a match made in Tartarus, Dash.”
  26.
  27. She puffs out her chest proudly. “And don’t you forget it! Now come on, I wana show you my favorite part!"
  28.
  29. Dash’s eyes light up as she guides you to a separate section of the factory. “And here’s the best part - the storm room!”
  30.
  31. Dash leads you into an enormous chamber, easily the size of a cathedral. Towering thunderheads loom overhead, swirling with wind and magic. The air feels charged, the hair on the back of your neck standing on end. You spot several pegasi moving about the room, expressions schooled into that of intense concentration, finely tuning the storm’s fury.
  32.
  33. “This is our main storm production room,” Dash says, her voice pitched with excitement and pride. “We’d make all the really big storms in here - thunderstorms, blizzards, tornadoes. The really fun stuff!”
  34.
  35. As if on cue, lightning cracks between two clouds, illuminating them from within. Thunder rumbles around you, vibrating in your chest. The clouds spin faster, whipped into a frenzy by the pegasi manipulating them.
  36.
  37. Dash grins at your awestruck expression. “Amazing, isn’t it? We’d have teams of up to a hundred pegasi working a really big storm. You have to coordinate wind speeds, temperature, humidity, air pressure - mess up the balance even a little and the whole thing can get away from you!”
  38.
  39. She leads you closer to one of the larger storm cells. The cloud spins slowly, stirred by the magic of half a dozen pegasi controlling its intensity. Up close, you can see how intricately crafted it is, layers of clouds spinning at different speeds and intensities. Some areas are dark with rain, while others glitter with hail. Wind buffets you from all directions, strong enough to nearly knock you off your feet.
  40.
  41. The storm rumbles angrily, as if sensing your approach. A bolt of lightning, hot and stark white, fractures from its depths. The crack of thunder nearly deafens you, sending you stumbling back in fear.
  42.
  43. Dash catches you with a wing, steadying you. She’s grinning wildly, eyes alight with exhilaration, utterly unfazed by the volatile magic surrounding her.
  44.
  45. “Scary, huh?” She laughs, the sound drowned out by another crash of thunder. “I loved this part of the job! The trick is to give a storm enough power to be dramatic and exciting, but keep it contained enough not to cause any real damage. It takes a lot of skill and instinct to craft the perfect storm!” Dash gazes up at the churning cloud with a look of longing. "...there’s nothing quite like it! All that power at your hooves, crackling through your feathers…”
  46.
  47. No wonder this was her favorite part. There is a beauty to the raw power on display here that calls to something primal in the spirit. A longing for the untamed, for wild forces beyond one's control.
  48.
  49. You stare up at the churning thunderhead, heart pounding against your ribs. This is the kind of power that fuels Dash’s passion for speed and danger - she spent years crafting storms like this, dancing on the edge of chaos. Now you understand why she seeks out thrills that would reduce most ponies to quivering wrecks.
  50.
  51. You glance at Dash, her mane and tail drifting in an unfelt wind. There is the same vibrant, chaotic energy to her - power barely contained beneath a deceptively playful exterior. She, too, is a force of nature given form.
  52.
  53. Dash glances back over at you, the manic glee fading from her expression. “Sorry, I should’ve warned you how intense it gets in here.” She rubs the back of her neck sheepishly. “I guess I got a little carried away showing off.”
  54.
  55. You shake your head, still gazing up in wonder and fear at the storm. “Don’t apologize. This is incredible, Dash. Thank you for showing me.”
  56.
  57. Dash grins, eyes bright. “Really? I’m glad you like it! Not many ponies can handle the storm room.” She nudges you playfully. “Guess that means you’re pretty tough, for a human.”
  58.
  59. You laugh, nudging her back. “Or just reckless enough to keep up with you.”
  60.
  61. “Hey!” She shoves you, indignant. “I’ll have you know I’m very responsible...when I want to be.” Her grin returns. “But seriously, I’m happy to show this place off to somepony who appreciates it. The other ponies here think I’m crazy for liking the dangerous parts of the job so much.”
  62.
  63. You gaze around at the churning storm cells and swirling wind. “I can understand why. But it’s incredible, beautiful in its own way. All this power,...” You trail off, shaking your head. “It’s... primal.”
  64.
  65. Dash nods enthusiastically. “Exactly! That’s what I always loved about it. Sure, it could get scary when a storm got out of control, but most of the time it was thrilling. And the precision it takes to craft a really powerful storm without causing damage, there’s an art to it.” She sighs wistfully. “I do miss this place sometimes. But being a Wonderbolt is even better!”
  66.
  67. “I’m sure it is,” you agree. You watch the closest storm cell spin for a moment before turning to Dash. “Ready to head out? I’d like to see the rest of the city, if you don’t mind showing me around some more.”
  68.
  69. “Sure thing!” Dash chirps. “There’s still so much more of Cloudsdale to see. And don’t worry, the rest of the tour will be much less life-threatening!” She winks at you before leading the way out of the storm room and weather factory, back into the bright streets of Cloudsdale.
  70.
  71. You follow Dash from the factory, a mixture of fear and exhilaration still thrumming through you. What an experience - terrifying and thrilling in equal measure, like Dash herself. You feel you understand her a bit better now, and the forces that shaped her into the mare she is today.
