    CHAPTER 2: THE HIDDEN GODS
  2. 2.

  3. 3.
    ---------------
  4. 4.

  5. 5.
    >Darkness, everywhere you look
  6. 6.
    >The drowned sound of wind howling blows in your ears
  7. 7.
    >Both the floor and the sky are in pitch darkness
  8. 8.
    >And so is your body
  9. 9.
    >HEART BEAT
  10. 10.
    >Huh? That sound
  11. 11.
    >It came from behind you
  12. 12.
    >Turning around, you see...nothing
  13. 13.
    >But it sounded louder than the wind
  14. 14.
    >HEART BEAT
  15. 15.
    >This time, you managed to see a pulse of green, hidden in the distant fog
  16. 16.
    >It was dimly lit, but the light was enough to shortly illuminate your face
  17. 17.
    >HEART BEAT
  18. 18.
    >Now the light is aproaching
  19. 19.
    >Every HEART BEAT moves the pulse closer and closer
  20. 20.
    >But it also intensifies in brightness
  21. 21.
    >And that, in turn, is beggining to reveal more details, like an oddly shaped triangle behind it
  22. 22.
    >HEART BEAT
  23. 23.
    >The bumps and outlines seem to be taking the shape of...
  24. 24.
    >There's several outlines being revealed actually
  25. 25.
    >HEART BEAT
  26. 26.
    >It's not a pyramid
  27. 27.
    >It's a pile
  28. 28.
    >And those are the bodies of several ponies, on top of one another
  29. 29.
    >Now the light is gone, instead, every HEART BEAT seems to originate from within every single one of the ponies
  30. 30.
    >They're all green
  31. 31.
    >And their manes are all black
  32. 32.
    >Mares
  33. 33.
    >Stallions
  34. 34.
    >Fillies
  35. 35.
    >Colts
  36. 36.
    >One of them seems to be some sort of hypogrif
  37. 37.
    >And as you keep staring at it, the HEART BEAT intensifies
  38. 38.
    >Two HEART BEATS every second
  39. 39.
    >Three HEART BEATS
  40. 40.
    >Four
  41. 41.
    >Five
  42. 42.
    >And then
  43. 43.
    >Red
  44. 44.
    >All around you
  45. 45.
    >Everywhere
  46. 46.
    >But its like, a bright shade of red
  47. 47.
    >Almost like blood
  48. 48.
    >And now, it slowly fades to black
  49. 49.
    >You look around one last time
  50. 50.
    >That's when you see it
  51. 51.
    >It's what you can only describe as a hollow heart
  52. 52.
    >Or the dark outline of a large, hollow heart
  53. 53.
    >And it's beating continuously
  54. 54.
    >But the inside has something
  55. 55.
    >Someone
  56. 56.
    >Their outline is but a dark shadow against the red background
  57. 57.
    >Its tall, has four legs, a crown, and a large pointy horn
  58. 58.
    >Closer inspection of the face is a mistake
  59. 59.
    >The last thing you see is its eyes opening
  60. 60.
    >Releasing a blindling white light, that drowns the rest of the dream
  61. 61.

  62. 62.
    >You gasp for air
  63. 63.
    >A small surge of adrenaline forces your spine to erect itself
  64. 64.
    >It feels as if there has been no oxygen around you all this time
  65. 65.
    >Even though the cave you're in is a little cold, you wake up drenched in sweat
  66. 66.
    >Your blanket is covered in sweat, actually
  67. 67.
    >''Welcome back''. The voice of a familiar looking mare greets you
  68. 68.
    >Looking to your right, you see her, sitting on a large pillow next to your bed
  69. 69.
    >Well, if you can call a conveniently shaped rock with blankets and a pillow a bed, that's up to you
  70. 70.
    >Atleast its not pitch dark
  71. 71.
    >The candles around you are bright enough to reveal her true colours
  72. 72.
    >Still gasping for air, you look at her closely
  73. 73.
    >She's uncloaked, virtually naked it seems
  74. 74.
    >Her green is a little more pale compared to you
  75. 75.
    >Her mane is almost as short as yours tho
  76. 76.
    >Compared to you, her body is thin, looking more athletic than anything
  77. 77.
    >And that's a nice pair of wings she has!
  78. 78.
    >Oh, her thin flanks have the same cutie mark as you do
  79. 79.
    >And she seems to have noticed you, dissociating in the depths of her cutie mark
  80. 80.
    >Uhm, okay, think of something!
  81. 81.
    >Right now, you can't think of anything to break the ice
  82. 82.
    >It seems she won't speak unless spoken to
  83. 83.
''You're not gonna...kill me are you?''
  84. 84.
    >''Dude'', she looks around her, ''I just saved you''
  85. 85.
    >You look at your own body.
  86. 86.
    >Not only did she dragged you around the cave for God knows how long, but she also covered your body in bandages
  87. 87.
    >There's pieces of rock, right inbetween the space between your bed and her pillow
  88. 88.
    >And they're covered in blood. Your blood, to be precise
  89. 89.
''Yeah...'', you sniff. ''Thanks, Anon Mare''.
  90. 90.
    >That's right, you've seen entire threads on a certain blue and white colored website about pastel colored cartoon horses
  91. 91.
    >But this mare?
  92. 92.
    >She even giggles lightly, very lightly
  93. 93.
    >''Unbelieveable. I never thought I'd meet Anon Stallion himself''
  94. 94.
    >...that's not right, because you're not a character
  95. 95.
    >Well, right now you are a pony, a green stallion even
  96. 96.
    >but, you still remember your life before coming here
  97. 97.
    >You're...you!
  98. 98.
''Uh, I'm not actually ''Anon'', you know?''
  99. 99.
    >''Neither am I, or any one of us if that matters''
  100. 100.
    >You sigh deeply
  101. 101.
    ''You said ''us''?''
  102. 102.
    >''Well, you already met out shitposting friend out there''. She looks to the ground. ''I'm glad you're not like him''
  103. 103.
''How'd you figure that?''. You raise an eyebrow
  104. 104.
    >''Hmm, he'll kill anyone that doesn't immediately say ''>rape'', or ''IWTCIRD'', or any other funny word''. She looks up, scratching her head with her right hoof. ''Most of us don't give much more than a second thought on what we'd do if we ended up in Equestria.''
  105. 105.
    >You remove the blanket from your body
  106. 106.
''So its you, me, him, who else?''
  107. 107.
    >She sighs, deeply. ''I don't know. You're the first one I've seen in months.''. Her eyes face the floor, and get lost in your bloodstains.
  108. 108.
''Hmm, right.''. You lift yourself up. Surprisingly, the pain in your body is...gone?
  109. 109.
    >She lifts her face once more, noticing you. ''All better?''
  110. 110.
''Yeah.'', you mutter. What else is there to say?
  111. 111.
    >You've never talked to a girl in this particular context before. There's too many questions to ask, and you feel insecure that you may end up fucking it all up
  112. 112.
    >Oh gosh oh gosh wat do wat d-
  113. 113.
    >''Okay first of all'', she interrupts your train of thought by raising her right hoof, ''I would preferably like to handle this like the adults we are...''
  114. 114.
    ''Okay...''
  115. 115.
    >And before you get to say anything else, she closes the distance between your face and hers
  116. 116.
    >She pushes her snout against yours, penetrating your soul with her eyes
  117. 117.
    >Nose to nose, but...not in a romantic way
  118. 118.
    >The presure is enough to make you scrunch
  119. 119.
    >''If I catch you staring at my butt one more time, I will make sure you never get to meet your waifu, understand?''
  120. 120.
    >You nervously nod
  121. 121.
    >''Good'', she says while pointing at you with her hoof. ''That being said...'', she returns to her original position
  122. 122.
    >Once again, sadness seems to have overtaken her
  123. 123.
    >Is she on her period?
  124. 124.
    >No you can't ask her that!
  125. 125.
''So uh, from what I've gathered''...
  126. 126.
    >Let's see, what do we know so far?
  127. 127.
    >There's more Anon ponies, but, they're not really characters, they're very real people like yourself
  128. 128.
    >Very autistic, normal people from the looks of it
  129. 129.
    >Except that your Unicorn friend over there is a turbo autist that is gatekeeping Equestria for himself, maybe
  130. 130.
    >Who knows how many more of you have been here already?
  131. 131.
Finishing your train of thought, you continue speaking. ''...there's more of us, right?''
  132. 132.
    >She doesn't react, and only replies in a moody tone. ''There were...''
  133. 133.
    >Gosh, you could've been a thriving society of Anonymous in Equestria
  134. 134.
    >But she herself seems to have been more personally affected by it
  135. 135.
''I'm sorry to hear that, uhm...Anon Mare?''
  136. 136.
    >She looks up at you, her sadness gone from her face once more. She twists her snout before replying. ''Well, obviously that's not my name, but I'm not gonna share MY name...''. She ponders with her right hoof. ''I guess you can call me anything BUT Anon Mare''
  137. 137.
    >Well, you'll think of something...
  138. 138.
    >She does look a lot like a
  139. 139.
''You kinda look like a tomboy. Can I-''
  140. 140.
    >''No''. She frowns upon you.
  141. 141.
    >That burning you feel?
  142. 142.
    >It is shame
  143. 143.
''Sorry, I'm a little autistic. Uhm'' you try to avoid her eyes, only to be chased by them. ''You can call me anything I guess.''
  144. 144.
    >''Okay, Anything!''. She gets up, and heads into the entrance of the room
  145. 145.
    >All this time, this cave you've been has been merely a bedroom
  146. 146.
    >''Anything's too long of a name. Can I call you ''Any'' instead?''
  147. 147.
''No. You frown upon her. That's an Any, with an ''ɛ''
  148. 148.
    >''Sure. We can talk outside, if you want to.'' As she heads for the entrance of the bedroom, she turns her head around
  149. 149.
    >''Coffee or tea?''
  150. 150.
    >It takes every inch of your willpower to not look at her butt
  151. 151.
    ''Tea would be nice''
  152. 152.
    >She doesn't say a word, she just leaves the room
  153. 153.
    >As you get up, you watch the ground, careful not to step on your previously-owned shrapnel
  154. 154.
    >''Hey do you want it hot or cold?'', her voice echoes from the entrance of the room
  155. 155.
    >Considering that you're still partially wet in sweat...?
  156. 156.
    ''Cold''
  157. 157.
    >You exit the room, and see a rudymentary...living room of sorts
  158. 158.
    >There's enough space to fit maybe 5 ponies side by side
  159. 159.
    >Are you gonna measure things with ponies now? This is so weird
  160. 160.
    >Well, there's a kitchen bar, a table, a set of 4 chairs, and even a TV
  161. 161.
    >But everything's carved out of rock, so...
  162. 162.
    >Its more so a TV carved in the wall
  163. 163.
    >There's also a large tunnel, that splits into three
  164. 164.
    >You can see some sort of candle light, dimly reflected on the walls of the tunnel
  165. 165.
    >SPARK
  166. 166.
    >Anon Mare taps her hoof strongly into the ground, echoing all around the cave
  167. 167.
    >So loud in fact you turn to her in shock
  168. 168.
    >Several sparks of lightning dance haphazardly on the kitchen bar, before a kettle starts moving on its own
  169. 169.
    >Anon Mare-well, however she'd want to be called, walks to the bedroom
  170. 170.
''I didn't know pegasi could conjure magic''
  171. 171.
    >''Nope'', she says, entering the bedroom, ''In fact, most ponies can't even come close to accomplishing this type of magic. Uhh, unless of course they're Starlight Glimmer...''
  172. 172.
    >She peeks through the door. ''You do know who she is, right?''
  173. 173.
You scuff. ''What am I, fan of the fandom?''
  174. 174.
    >She doesn't question it. Instead, she returns into the bedroom. ''Well, our unicorn friend out there dropped the show after season 5. He told me before he tried to...y'know...''
  175. 175.
    ''Oh...sorry to hear''
  176. 176.
    >SPARK
  177. 177.
    >after a moment of silence, two pillows come out of the bedroom
  178. 178.
    >on their own
  179. 179.
    >and then proceed to walk all the way to the table, resting on where you'll eventually sit
  180. 180.
    >This seems...oddly familiar
  181. 181.
    >''Oh, have a seat, I'm just...'', there seem to be all manner of random sounds coming from the bedroom
  182. 182.
    >Was that an elephant?
  183. 183.
    >Nevertheless, you decide to head for the table
  184. 184.
    >You sit on the far end, facing the bedroom, hoping the pillows don't mind laying your butt on them
  185. 185.
    >That's where a cup of tea, materializes in front of you
  186. 186.
    >And a chilled, metallic tea jar
  187. 187.
    >...
  188. 188.
    >Oh it won't pour itself? Ok then
  189. 189.
    >As you serve yourself, once again, Anon Mare manifests right in front of you
  190. 190.
    >And now, she's reading a copy of the Canterlot Daily
  191. 191.
    >All of this random magical nonsense has to have a reason
  192. 192.
''So...'', you speak as you pour, ''you're Discord?''
  193. 193.
    >''Nope, but now that you mention it, we gotta go look for him''. She keeps reading
  194. 194.
    >Isn't he with Flutt-
  195. 195.
    >Before you mutter a word, she puts the newspaper right on your eyes
  196. 196.
    >It forces you to stop pouring
  197. 197.
    >MUSEUM OF CANTERLOT ROBBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!
  198. 198.
    >you didn't know this thing existed but there it is. Some artifacts went missing
  199. 199.
    >ELEMENT OF KINDNESS URGES THE POPULATION TO LOOK FOR DISCORD
  200. 200.
    >Sure, if he knew what your evil doppelganger was up to, he'd probably turn him inside out or something.
  201. 201.
    >What else...?
  202. 202.
    >...oh, looks like you missed Lyra and BonBon's wedding
  203. 203.
''Right, I'm gonna take a guess an-''
  204. 204.
    >She turns around the newspaper in an instant
  205. 205.
    >ANON AND PRINCESS LUNA...DATING?! MORE INFORMATION BELOW!
  206. 206.
    >You read below and it seems to be a bunch of made up stuff about those two, but in that picture you see Luna and your unicorn friend entering a library
  207. 207.
    >This is the moment where you piece two and two together and...
  208. 208.
    >Yeah you got nothing
  209. 209.
''So Discord's gone, someone broke into Canterlot Museum, and this fucker gets to bang his waifu like nothing is wrong?''
  210. 210.
    >While you were distracted, Anon Mare poured herself some tea. ''As far as I know,'' she sips, then continues, ''that's not his waifu.''
  211. 211.
    >Hmm...and that dream you had earlier would've for sure caught the attention of the lunar princess herself
  212. 212.
''And all of this happened what, within a week?''
  213. 213.
    >She just nods, gently, enjoying her tea
  214. 214.
''So you've been hiding for a whole week in here?''
  215. 215.
    >She finally opens her eyes, looking at you
  216. 216.
    >''A couple of months. Discord had the brilliant idea of dealing with the plague of the Anonymous by himself, without the mane 6 knowing''
  217. 217.
You raise an eyebrow, ''...and what happened?''
  218. 218.
    >''as is often the case when the lord of Caos makes a plan behind everyone's back'' she shrugs, '' it backfired miserably''
  219. 219.
    ''Oh...seems very in-character for him.''
  220. 220.
    >She keeps staring at you, with her tea cup on her hoof.
  221. 221.
    >You haven't touched your tea. And both of them are judging you now
  222. 222.
    >Oops
  223. 223.
    >You bring your head down to the table, and put your two hooves on each side of it
  224. 224.
    >SIP
  225. 225.
''Oh this is some bomb ass tea-''
  226. 226.
    >You don't even get to finish your sentence before she spits out her tea in laughter
  227. 227.
    >That phrase triggered a sleeper agent that made her wheeze uncontrollably
  228. 228.
    >You said it outloud
  229. 229.
    >And now, she's on the floor, laughing in tears. ''OH MY GOD! YOU SHOULD'VE SEEN YOUR FACE!'', she yells, while rolling in the floor
  230. 230.
    >You can't help but chuckle at the thought
  231. 231.
    >''OH! Oh...oh my sides'', she tries her best to get up on all fours
  232. 232.
    >''Oh my God...ahemm'', she locks in, trying her best to make a serious face
  233. 233.
    >''Alright, alright, you win''. You manage to crack one more smile out of her before she goes super-serious-mode yet again
  234. 234.
    >Your smile dissipates too
  235. 235.
    ''Right...so uh...''
  236. 236.
    >You try to make sense of all of this, still
  237. 237.
    >that's when you recall a familiar looking amulet on her neck
  238. 238.
''So uh, was that the Alicorn Amulet back there?''
  239. 239.
    >''It was!''. She reaches into her left wing, and pulls it out of there. Indeed, it has been hollowed out
  240. 240.
    >''Our unicorn friend managed to shatter it before it got into the wrong hands...''
  241. 241.
    ''Hooves''
  242. 242.
    >She scrunches. ''Right. At least the wings still work...kind off''. She gently taps the amulet with her hoof and indeed, a red bloom can be seen, faintly emanating from the wings
  243. 243.
    >You ponder into your tea cup
  244. 244.
    >The weight of the fucked up reality you're residing in starts to become more and more apparent
  245. 245.
    >Discord is gone. That means Fluttershy doesn't have her protector
  246. 246.
    >Luna is close with the other guy, which is dangerous enough as is. Who knows what he'd tell her?
  247. 247.
    >That dream you had? Anon Mare over here probably saw it become a reality
  248. 248.
    >''...Anon? You OK?''. She breaks the silence
  249. 249.
''I'm...sorry. All of this is wrong, and I have no idea what you've been through but...''
  250. 250.
    >Still pondering at your cup, you stand up, on top of the table
  251. 251.
    >You think about all the times you were in tears, knee deep in depression.
  252. 252.
    >Everytime the ponies made your day just a little bit better.
  253. 253.
    >Every character that got a good laugh out of you when you needed it the most.
  254. 254.
    >Every song that made you sing along with glee. Every drawing, video, music video, comic, and media that kept you going, even during the harshest days.
  255. 255.
    >You exhale deeply, thinking about the good ol days...
  256. 256.
''This world means so much to me. I don't think I'd even be the same if it wasn't for Twilight and her friends''. A single tear runs down your eye, as you crack a smile. ''I think its time for me to return the favor. I think its time to save them. No matter what. ''
  257. 257.
