Expiry: Never

  1. 1.
    >Be Anon, 26
  2. 2.
    >Frankly? You're kinda hot shit
  3. 3.
    >Dad kicked the bucket when you were 19, leaving you the family biz: some accounting and stock trading shit
  4. 4.
    >Thankfully the old bastard taught you a good bit before he gave up the ghost
  5. 5.
    >You still miss him
  6. 6.
    >Mom has been out of the picture for a long time, you don't like thinking about it
  7. 7.
    >You spend most of your days managing the dumbass wageys in your employ and trying your best not to lose your shit at your dumbass clients
  8. 8.
    >The rest of the time you're out drinking with the boys, or socializing to get new clients and whatnot
  9. 9.
    >Honestly it's a lot sometimes, you haven't had time for vidya in years
  10. 10.
    >Today is no different. You've spent the whole morning fixing one of your boomer client's shitshows, and it's finally resolved
  11. 11.
    >Retard actually almost fell for that Arab Prince meme
  12. 12.
    >Anyway it's finally lunchtime, and you're fucking starving
  13. 13.
    >You head out of the office and start making your way down the street towards the cafe you tend to frequent
  14. 14.
    >You could absolutely afford to just UberEATS some shit but you need to get the fuck out of that office right now
  15. 15.
    >Fucking Joseph shouldn't be allowed to have an e-mail, honestly sometimes you think the whole goddamn internet was a mistake
  16. 16.
    >Reminds you of your time browsing /mlp/ back before you started filling your time with work and mild alcoholism, you idly wonder what those horsefuckers are up to now
  17. 17.
    >Speaking of substance abuse
  18. 18.
    >You light up a ciggy as you walk, reveling in the satisfying clink the zippo makes as you snap it shut
  19. 19.
    >One of the few things your dad left you other than the business, a house, his cars, the... world's smallest violin
  20. 20.
    >Okay honestly there's not much you can complain about, really, not that that will stop you
  21. 21.
    >As you walk you see an old lady sitting on the sidewalk, hunched over with her hat sitting out in front of her
  22. 22.
    >Gross. What is this place coming to? Need to get these fucking people in an asylum or whatever
  23. 23.
    >You don't like looking at them. You brace yourself for the inevitable spiel
  24. 24.
    >She looks up at you as you approach, and you studiously avoid looking anywhere but directly at her
  25. 25.
"Spare an old lady some change sir?"
  26. 26.
    >Christ, these people never stop looking for handouts. Maybe get a job?
  27. 27.
    >You cough, unable to avert your gaze
  28. 28.
    >You fleetingly notice that her eyes are a weird dark blue, so deep they're almost purple
  29. 29.
"Sorry, got nothing on me. Good luck miss."
  30. 30.
    >You speed up a little, eager to get out of there and get some lunch, but she's not done with you
  31. 31.
"Please sir, you look like you have plenty to spare! Even just a little helps."
  32. 32.
    >Good lord you are sick of this shit already
  33. 33.
"Nope, sorry, get a job lady!"
  34. 34.
    >You shout over your shoulder as you continue walking away
  35. 35.
    >She stands up, quicker than you would have expected
  36. 36.
    >Ohfuck.jpg
  37. 37.
    >She's probably going to stab you with an AIDS needle or something, time to go
  38. 38.
    >You pick up the pace a little more, this bitch is probably way too old to catch you
  39. 39.
    >She doesn't try to follow though, just looks after you. She doesn't look angry just... disappointed?
  40. 40.
    >And there's something else there too... You can't pinpoint what
  41. 41.
    >Whatever, you're hungry and you don't owe her anything
  42. 42.
    >Still, you can feel her eyes burning into your shoulder blades as you speedwalk out of there
  43. 43.
    >You arrive at the cafe
  44. 44.
    >Finally, you've been dying for that cold cut panini
  45. 45.
    >You wait in line for a bit, answering emails on your phone and occasionally sneaking glances at the woman in front of you
  46. 46.
    >Goddamn she has a dumpy on her
  47. 47.
    >You scan through your emails quickly
  48. 48.
    >One of your wagey employees wants a bunch of time off so she can visit some family in Switzerland or some shit
  49. 49.
    >Bitch you wanna get paid you gotta work for it
  50. 50.
    >Denied
  51. 51.
    >You put your phone away in time for the chick in front of you to finish ordering
  52. 52.
    >Dead-eyed wagey behind the counter asks you what you want
  53. 53.
"Cold cut panini, and a black coffee."
  54. 54.
    >You're sure to speak slowly and deliberately so his toasted ass can understand what you're saying
  55. 55.
    >He blinks slowly, before entering your order
  56. 56.
    >You pay and move off to the side to wait
  57. 57.
    >Hopefully they don't fuck this up
  58. 58.
    >After a few minutes they give you your order
  59. 59.
    >You take a sip of the coffee and nearly spit it out
  60. 60.
    >This shit tastes like they pissed in it
  61. 61.
"How hard is it to not fuck up a coffee?"
  62. 62.
    >You mutter just loud enough for the employees to hear
  63. 63.
    >They give you dirty looks as you walk out of there
  64. 64.
    >At least the panini is good
  65. 65.
    >You make your way back to the office, careful to switch sides of the street to avoid that old bitch
  66. 66.
    >Turns out it wasn't necessary, she's nowhere to be seen
  67. 67.
    >Good riddance
  68. 68.
    >You head back into the office with a sigh, mentally preparing yourself for whatever retarded shit your employees want next
  69. 69.

  70. 70.
    ***
  71. 71.

  72. 72.
    >A few hours later and you're done for the day
  73. 73.
    >It's getting dark out, and you can't handle any more bullshit
  74. 74.
    >You slip out of there, deftly avoiding a few people in the office who want to talk to you
  75. 75.
    >Heading down to the carpark you use the fob to unlock your ride
  76. 76.
    >She's a Charger sedan, a nice and shiny red
  77. 77.
    >You get an odd familiar feeling as you approach, as though there were a pair of eyes burning holes into your back
  78. 78.
    >You look around, suddenly feeling paranoid. Where DID that old bitch get off to?
  79. 79.
    >Place is dead quiet, aside from a few empty cars
  80. 80.
    >Okay that's fucking weird
  81. 81.
    >Whatever, you open the door to your car and get in, enjoying the sound of the engine as you fire it up
  82. 82.
    >Damn this thing rips
  83. 83.
    >You peel out of there and start the drive home, weaving in and out of traffic once you make it to the highway
  84. 84.
    >Kinda makes you feel like your flying, sort of
  85. 85.
    >Freedom of the open road and all that gay shit
  86. 86.
    >You pull off the highway and start driving down the road towards your house
  87. 87.
    >You live pretty far out of town, a nice big old rancher innawoods
  88. 88.
    >There's that prickling feeling in your back again
  89. 89.
    >It's actually pretty dark out now and you find yourself unreasonably spooked
  90. 90.
    >There's nobody out here, so why do you still feel like you're not alone?
  91. 91.
    >You speed up, flying down the road towards your house
  92. 92.
    >The sooner you get home the better, you're pretty sick of this weird paranoia
  93. 93.
    >Finally you see your address in the headlights, and pull into your driveway
  94. 94.
    >You turn the car off and sit for a moment, scanning the darkness around your house while you listen to the ticking sound of the engine as the metal cools
  95. 95.
    >Nothing there
  96. 96.
    >You pull the keys and are about to open the door when you freeze
  97. 97.
    >You caught the slightest movement out of the corner of your eye, something in the rearview mirror
  98. 98.
    >Purple eyes greet you as you look into the mirror
  99. 99.
    "What the fu-!"
  100. 100.
    >Pain explodes all down your right side as she jams something sharp into your neck
  101. 101.
    >God fucking damnit she got you with the AIDS needle after all
  102. 102.
    >You clutch your neck as you open the car door, staggering outside
  103. 103.
    >The back door of the car starts to open but you kick it shut, feeling it connect with her
  104. 104.
    >Yeah that's right you fucking bi... Oh shit
  105. 105.
    >You suddenly feel incredibly woozy
  106. 106.
    >Yep that's gotta be the SuperherpagonhasyphylAIDS kicking in
  107. 107.
    >You dimly realise the needle is still hanging from your neck, and yank it out before throwing it on the ground
  108. 108.
    >Ohmyfuckinggod that's disgusting
  109. 109.
    >You stumble towards your house, holding your neck with one hand as you feel blood drip through your fingers
  110. 110.
    >Just gotta get inside, gonna grab your gun and call the cops
  111. 111.
    >This is fucking unreal, all because you wouldn't give her some spare change?
  112. 112.
    >You fumble with your keys, managing to get them into the lock and turn it
  113. 113.
    >Your movements feel sluggish, uncoordinated
  114. 114.
    >You glance behind you, but you don't see anything. The needle lies next to the car and that old bitch is nowhere to be seen
  115. 115.
    >Opening the door, you stagger inside and lean against the door to shut it, before locking it
  116. 116.
    >You reach into your pocket to grab your phone but- it's not there
  117. 117.
    >Fuck! You left it in the car
  118. 118.
    >Okay no problem, your dad had a landline in the kitchen that you never bothered disconnecting
  119. 119.
    >Saved again by the old man
  120. 120.
    >You stumble towards the kitchen, your vision starting to blur
  121. 121.
    >Fuckfuckfuck gotta hurry
  122. 122.
    >You can feel whatever nonsense you were stabbed with slowing you down, starting to shut down your coordination
  123. 123.
    >You turn the corner and enter the kitchen
  124. 124.
    >There it is, right next to the toaster
  125. 125.
    >You stagger over to it, nearly falling as you catch yourself on the counter
  126. 126.
    >You pick it up, and dialing 911 with numb fingers, as your vision starts to narrow to a tunnel
  127. 127.
    >It rings once, twice, and then you hear a female voice on the other side
  128. 128.
    "911, what's your emergency?"
  129. 129.
    >The voice sounds like it's very far away, you struggle to force words through your numb lips
  130. 130.
"yweahh idd swlike uhh crrrld crrt puhnnnniiiiniiii..."
  131. 131.
    >Your last thought is appropriately brief:
  132. 132.
    >Fuck
  133. 133.

  134. 134.
    ***
  135. 135.

  136. 136.
    >Pain
  137. 137.
    >Your head throbs, your neck aches, and your wrists and ankles burn
  138. 138.
    >You swim through an endless expanse of swirling darkness, your mind reeling
  139. 139.
    *crack*
  140. 140.
    >What was that noise? Your face hurts
  141. 141.
    >You can feel the pounding of your heart in your ears, the rush of the blood in your head
  142. 142.
    *Crack*
  143. 143.
    >Your face stings
  144. 144.
    >What the actual fuck is that sound?
  145. 145.
    *CRACK*
  146. 146.
    >Your eyes open blearily, your head lolling
  147. 147.
    >Blurry shapes are all around you, some of them look sort of familiar
  148. 148.
    >One of them is moving
  149. 149.
    *CRACK*
  150. 150.
    >You snap back to reality as your head is rocked to the side by another slap, and your eyes finally focus
  151. 151.
    >Purple eyes look back at you, the old lady's face leering over you
  152. 152.
"There he is! Sorry for the rude awakening, I would have given you some more time to wake up but unfortunately you called the police, so we're going to have to make this brief."
  153. 153.
    >You stare up at her with a mixture of shock, anger, and fear
  154. 154.
"W-what the fuck are you doing?"
  155. 155.
    >You slur, trying to sit up
  156. 156.
    >It's then that you realise that your hands and feet are bound, and you're lying on the living room floor of your house.
  157. 157.
    >You struggle in vain against the bonds as that old witch looks down at you, amused
  158. 158.
"Like I said, I don't have much time to explain thanks to your stubbornness, but here's the short version: You are kind of an asshole, and I'm going to be sending you away somewhere where you might actually learn some manners."
  159. 159.
    >You look up at her drunkenly
  160. 160.
"What the fuck are you talking about you crazy old bitch? The cops will be here and when they... when they find you here with all my blood everywhere they're going to arrest your ass! Let me go!"
  161. 161.
    >She grins down at you, her dark eyes glittering
  162. 162.
"Ah but you see, when they get here all they will find is... you. A little too drunk and panicking over nothing."
  163. 163.
    >You look up at her, confused, in pain, and angry
  164. 164.
    "What do you...?"
  165. 165.
    >Before you can finish your sentence she raises her hand, snaps her fingers, and...
  166. 166.
    >What the fuck
  167. 167.
    >You're looking at you. A mirror image of you, looking down at the real you and grinning like the fucking cat that got the canary
  168. 168.
    >Your eyes widen as you stare in shock
  169. 169.
    >There are many things that go through your head at that moment; mostly expletives
  170. 170.
    >But also, damn. Magic is real and/or I'm on drugs
  171. 171.
"Th... this can't be real. I fell and am severely brain damaged, or... or something."
  172. 172.
    >She (He? You?) laughs, in your voice
  173. 173.
"No no, I assure you this is all quite real. Anyway, as charming a conversationalist as you are I think it's time to send you on your way. We're short on time as it is anyway. Have fun!"
  174. 174.
    >With that, she (You?) raises her (his?) hands and a bright glowing circle surrounds you
  175. 175.
    >You writhe around, trying desperately to escape, to get away or wake up or something, anything
  176. 176.
    >You manage only to turn yourself onto your side, and see with some amount of horror where that glow is coming from
  177. 177.
    >There's some kind of circle around you, drawn in... your own blood.
  178. 178.
    >The glow continues to intensify as you violently try to free yourself from whatever hell this is, screaming and shouting slurs and expletives at this crazy bitch, at whatever god is responsible for this, at anyone or anything that might get you out of this situation
  179. 179.
    "Fuck you you fucking whoooooooore-!"
  180. 180.
    >The last thing you see is your own image staring at you, those purple eyes looking down at you gleefully before a blinding flash erupts from all around you and then:
  181. 181.
    >Darkness
  182. 182.

  183. 183.
    ***
  184. 184.

  185. 185.
    >The first thing you notice is the soft feeling of grass brushing up against your face, followed by a gentle breeze brushing past your ears
  186. 186.
    >Your eyes snap open, and you scramble to your feet, before immediately falling over again
  187. 187.
    >Goddamn your head hurts
  188. 188.
    >You press a hoof to your forehead, trying to alleviate some of the pressure
  189. 189.
    >No
  190. 190.
    >Nonononono
  191. 191.
    >You jerk your *HAND* away from your head as you lie on your back, your eyes squeezed shut
  192. 192.
    >Okay so I might still be on drugs
  193. 193.
    >You're going to open your eyes, and you're going to be home, and perhaps you had too much to drink, or maybe took something by mistake, or...
  194. 194.
    >You can't do it. You can't bear to open your eyes
  195. 195.
    >Okay whatever, stop being a pussy. It's fine. Right?
  196. 196.
    >You open your eyes and stare straight up at the sky
  197. 197.
    >It's a beautiful day out, there are some big fluffy clouds floating around
  198. 198.
    >The breeze rolls past you, pushing the scents of grass and flowers past your ears and gently ruffling the fur on... on your face...
  199. 199.
    >You close your eyes again
  200. 200.
    >Carefully, you bring your *HAND* up in front of your face, and prepare to open them again
  201. 201.
    >Okay, think hand vibes. Manifesting hand. There are fingers and a palm and stuff
  202. 202.
    >You open your eyes
  203. 203.
    >And you are greeted by a stocky hoof, connected to an arm... leg? That's covered in a light green fur
  204. 204.
    >following the path of the leg you find it is... fucking connected to your shoulder aaand you are a fucking horse
  205. 205.
    >You look down at your body in disbelief, finding where you would expect to see a human man's body there is instead that of a pony
  206. 206.
    >You've got some cute little legs and right between said legs is...
  207. 207.
    >Is not what you were expecting. There's nothing there, but a little further back under your tail is...
  208. 208.
"You have got to be FUCKING kidding me."
  209. 209.
    >The voice that comes out of your throat is a lot higher pitched and much more girly than you remember
  210. 210.
    >You slump back on the ground
  211. 211.
    >It sure was your favourite bone. You're going to miss it
  212. 212.
    >Your back feels weird, and immediately your paranoia returns
  213. 213.
    >You scramble once again to your feet, clumsily trying to adjust to being on all fours, and whip your head around, looking for any sign of that old bitch
  214. 214.
    >Nobody
  215. 215.
    >You look behind you and come to the realisation that what you were feeling was your wings being crushed underneath you
  216. 216.
    >You lose your balance and sit down heavily, your front legs still planted on the ground
  217. 217.
    >You close your eyes and just focus on breathing
  218. 218.
    >Okay so... drug trip. Obviously. You've taken too many drugs before, Anon, you know what to do
  219. 219.
    >We're just gonna ride this bitch out
  220. 220.
    >Might as well... see how far this goes, you guess
  221. 221.
    >You open your eyes again, and for the first time take a moment to really observe your surroundings
  222. 222.
    >You're in the middle of a colourful meadow, there are flowers growing throughout and the whole place is surrounded by some kind of deciduous trees
  223. 223.
    >In the distance you can see an enormous purplish snow-capped mountain, and you can just barely make out what seems to be a city built into the side of it
  224. 224.
    >Okay so this is... Equestria
  225. 225.
    >Holy fuck it's been years since you saw the show, you haven't had time for that shit in ages
  226. 226.
    >That's... Canterlot, you think?
  227. 227.
    >In between the meadow you currently reside in and said mountain is a massive, dense forest
  228. 228.
    >Which is the... Everfree? If you remember correctly
  229. 229.
    >Okay fuck it, this is a pretty immersive drug trip so let's send it and see what's up
  230. 230.
    >You shakily get to your feet and try to take a few steps forward, stumbling as you go
  231. 231.
    >Okay so this walking on four legs thing is pretty weird but... You can fucking do this
  232. 232.
    >Activating cro magnon brain
  233. 233.
    >You start making your way forward slowly, stumbling as you get used to all these weird new muscle groups
  234. 234.
    >You try to force yourself to walk forward, focusing as hard as you can on moving each new part of your body
  235. 235.
    >Fuck okay this is hard
  236. 236.
    >You can see a pond ahead, and a stream that lazily feeds into it
  237. 237.
    >Suddenly you realise that you are really thirsty
  238. 238.
    >Alright target acquired
  239. 239.
    >You stiffly walk, stumble, and stagger your way towards it, and after about five minutes (it really shouldn't have taken that long) you manage to make it to the stream
  240. 240.
    >Collapsing at the edge of the water, you lean down and dunk your face in, greedily drinking as much as you can
  241. 241.
    >Goddamn it's fucking delicious
  242. 242.
    >You idly make a note to switch to mountain spring water when you wake up
  243. 243.
    >You roll onto your back again, careful not to hurt your new wings, they're sensitive
  244. 244.
    >Not gonna test those babies out yet, definitely gonna kill yourself if you try to fly right now
  245. 245.
    >After resting for a minute you struggle to your feet, trying to use your wings to propel yourself up
  246. 246.
    >All you manage to do is flail but you get there
  247. 247.
    >You walk over to the edge of the pond, unsure if you want to take the next step
  248. 248.
    >You kinda want to know what you look like now but you're not sure if you can handle it
  249. 249.
    >Fuck it, not being a pussy here
  250. 250.
    >You step forward, and gaze into the water of the pond and... you gasp softly
  251. 251.
    >Looking back at you is a cute little green pony with a button nose, emerald eyes, and a jet black mane
  252. 252.
    >You're actually cute as fuck as a pony
  253. 253.
    >Okay enough of this, let's get some more water and get out of here
  254. 254.
    >You turn around and head a little further up the stream, idly thinking about how fucked this situation is
  255. 255.
    >In your experience, too many psychoactive substances made your perception of time... weird
  256. 256.
    >If it was mushrooms or whatever you're looking at eight hours of this, but it might seem like more when you've taken too many drugs
  257. 257.
    >You reach the stream faster than you had anticipated
  258. 258.
    >Huh. Guess not really focusing on walking actually makes it easier
  259. 259.
    >It actually feels kinda... natural
  260. 260.
    >You drink some more, standing this time, and then lift your head up, feeling rejuvenated
  261. 261.
    >Alright let's actually get the fucking scope of this place
  262. 262.
    >You turn around
  263. 263.
    >Nothing ventured nothing gained
  264. 264.
    >Besides this is all in your mind so you can't really get hurt, right?
  265. 265.
    >You clear your mind as best you can and start walking, then crank it up to a trot
  266. 266.
    >Surprisingly it feels kind of nice
  267. 267.
    >You turn it up again, galloping across the field, gaining more and more speed
  268. 268.
    >The wind rushing past your ears and through your fur feels amazing
  269. 269.
    >You spread your wings, feeling the air currents ruffling your feathers as you start to generate lift
  270. 270.
    >With a clumsy leap, you beat your wings and actually manage to take off
  271. 271.
    >For a beautiful, fleeting moment you're overwhelmed with emotion as you soar across the field
  272. 272.
    >Then you realise you are careening directly towards the Everfree Forest
  273. 273.
    >Ohfuck
  274. 274.
    >You beat your wings harder, clumsily trying to steer away from the woods but you only manage to propel yourself higher
  275. 275.
    >Just barely cresting the tips of the trees, you feel your wings strain as a gust of wind pushes you even higher
  276. 276.
    >Holy shit this is fucking awesome
  277. 277.
    >Gonna have to find out what drugs that old bitch used when I get back, definitely gonna try this again
  278. 278.
    >You scan the horizon as you soar over the tips of the trees, trying to figure out where you're going to land
  279. 279.
    >Oh fuck landing is going to be a problem
  280. 280.
    >We'll get there when we get there
  281. 281.
    >The wind gets stronger the further over the Everfree you get, gusts buffeting you around and pushing you off course
  282. 282.
    >Okay time to slow down
  283. 283.
    >You tip yourself back, beating your wings hard and trying to slow down, but before you can really land a massive gust blows you off course
  284. 284.
    >Your balance destroyed, you tip over and careen directly into the tops of the trees
  285. 285.
    "FUCK!"
  286. 286.
    >You crash through the treetops doing your best to dodge through the branches, just barely skimming past them
  287. 287.
    >You lean back further, before righting yourself and trying to slow down, but it's too late
  288. 288.
    >You brace yourself as you fly directly towards a huge branch overgrown with ivy and thorns
  289. 289.
    >Trying to turn at the last moment you almost miss it...
  290. 290.
    >But the thorns snag your wing, and you're sent tumbling through the branches
  291. 291.
    >They scrape and bruise you as you fall through, and your other wing clips a particularly large branch and sends you spinning
  292. 292.
    >You nearly black out from the pain
  293. 293.
    >Then you do black out as you crash into the forest floor
  294. 294.

  295. 295.
    ***
  296. 296.

  297. 297.
    >A haze
  298. 298.
    >A drifting swirling mass of black and red and green
  299. 299.
    >Time is meaningless, memories of the past and senseless thoughts drift through the malaise
  300. 300.
    >Where are you?
  301. 301.

  302. 302.
    ***
  303. 303.

  304. 304.
    >You open your eyes slowly, confused
  305. 305.
    >You look around, your mind unable to make sense of what you are seeing
  306. 306.
    >You're lying down, the ground underneath you somewhat... soft
  307. 307.
    >Above you is not the forest canopy that you would expect, but a... thatch roof?
  308. 308.
    >The soft glow of a fire illuminates the room you are in, and you can hear the bubbling of the cauldron atop it
  309. 309.
    >You groan, all your aches and pains flooding back to you
  310. 310.
    >You try to move your wings, and find that you can't
  311. 311.
    >Looking down, you can see that they're bound to your body, and one of your legs is too
  312. 312.
    >Thoughts of waking up bound on your living room floor flood your mind and you scramble to your feet, your eyes wide
  313. 313.
"N-no! Where the fuck am I?"
  314. 314.
    >As you put weight on your bound hoof pain sears up your leg, and you stumble and fall to your knees
  315. 315.
    >You nearly black out again
  316. 316.
    >After the pain recedes, you open your eyes again, taking a more careful look
  317. 317.
    >You're not bound, you're bandaged
  318. 318.
    >A red stain gently starts to appear on your bandaged leg, and as you look at your wings you realise they too are bandaged
  319. 319.
    >Someone saved you, but who? And why?
  320. 320.
    >You look around at your surroundings again, drinking in some of the details
  321. 321.
    >A cauldron on a fire, casting dancing shadows on the wall
  322. 322.
    >A thatch roof, a wardrobe... and some shelves with various bottles lining the walls
  323. 323.
    >And a bed, that you had been lying on until moments ago
  324. 324.
    >A simple place but... somehow cozy
  325. 325.
    >You jump as the door to the little hut swings open
  326. 326.
    >You spin around and nearly have a heart attack as purple eyes gaze back at you from the darkness of the door
  327. 327.
    >You start backing away, your eyes wide with terror, before the shape steps forward and reveals herself
  328. 328.
    >Her eyes aren't purple, they're a light blue
  329. 329.
    >Just a trick of the light... You breathe a sigh of relief
  330. 330.
    >A zebra stands in front of you, her mane standing proudly and her blue eyes glittering
  331. 331.
    >Of course, fuck you're stupid sometimes. It's Zocira... or something
  332. 332.
"Ah, I see you you are awake. Lucky it is, that no bones you did break."
  333. 333.
    >Oh of course, the fucking rhyming thing. You had forgotten about that
  334. 334.
    "Y-yes, thank you."
  335. 335.
    >You duck your head, suddenly very self-conscious about your girly voice
  336. 336.
    >Zecora closes her eyes and nods sagely, then turns around and steps halfway outside and dips her head down
  337. 337.
    >Bringing it back up again she turns around, a basket held in her mouth, and it appears to be full of mushrooms
  338. 338.
    >She walks to the cauldron, and dumps them in before putting the basket down and closing the door
  339. 339.
    >She turns around again
  340. 340.
"I found you on the forest floor, after making such a racket I could not ignore!"
  341. 341.
    >God the rhyming thing is insufferable
  342. 342.
    >It's so bad
  343. 343.
"Y-yeah... again, thanks for that. Wh... Why did you help me, anyway?"
  344. 344.
    >You manage to squeak out, still unreasonably embarrassed by your voice
  345. 345.
    >Why do you care anyway? None of this is real. Obviously. Except the pain, that was and is very real
  346. 346.
    >Maybe no more flying for a bit. Or ever
  347. 347.
"Because you needed help, of course. Kindness is a powerful force."
  348. 348.
    >Uuuuuuuuughghghghg this is getting old
  349. 349.
"Zecora is my name, what is yours to claim?"
  350. 350.
    >Holy shit you need to get out of here
  351. 351.
"Nona. Thank you for saving me, again, I really appreciate it, but I should go. Gotta get to Ponyland. Ville. Ponyville, I mean."
  352. 352.
    >Zecora give you a look that clearly indicates that she thinks you're retarded
  353. 353.
"You are injured right now, time for food at least you must allow!"
  354. 354.
    >Fucking fine if it will shut you up Zecora
  355. 355.
    >Come to think of it you are really hungry actually
  356. 356.
    >And that stew smells surprisingly good
  357. 357.
    "Okay... Thank you."
  358. 358.
    >You feel... grateful, astonishingly. And also weirdly guilty for some reason
  359. 359.
    >Zecora pours you some stew after another hour or so
  360. 360.
    >It's actually really good
  361. 361.
    >Not sure what kind of stuff she put in there other than the mushrooms but that Zebra can cook
  362. 362.
    >You never really did any cooking yourself, you didn't really have the time nor inclination and usually you would eat out or order food
  363. 363.
    >Besides, you had plenty of money
  364. 364.
    >Or at least, you did in the... waking world. Speaking of which, how much longer was this trip going to last?
  365. 365.
    >You were beginning to get a bit worried
  366. 366.
"Zecora... how long has it been since you brought me here?"
  367. 367.
    >She looks at you serenely
  368. 368.
"Two days it has been, since I brought you here I mean. How long you were there, I am not aware."
  369. 369.
    >Okay fuck
  370. 370.
    >Well it's... You haven't experienced two days. It's not like... actually two days have gone by
  371. 371.
    >But it feels like it. It feels like time has passed, and you refuse to believe it but it just feels so real
  372. 372.
    >You push the thoughts away. You're going to wake up at some point, and in the meantime this is just a wild trip
  373. 373.
    >You yawn, suddenly aware of how exhausted you are. Your body aches, especially your hoof
  374. 374.
    >Zecora looks at you knowingly
  375. 375.
"Stay here for the night if you like, and you may leave at first light."
  376. 376.
    >Okay Zecora that one was a fucking stretch
  377. 377.
    "Alright. Thank you, Zecora."
  378. 378.
    >Zecora nods
  379. 379.
    >It feels fucking bizarre talking to what is a hallucination as far as you are concerned
  380. 380.
    >But it feels... right
  381. 381.
    >Like it would be rude not to
  382. 382.
    >Since when have you given a shit about that?
  383. 383.
    >Good lord it's fucking bedtime, you've had enough of this
  384. 384.
    >You stand up gingerly, keeping weight off your injured hoof
  385. 385.
    >It feels... easy, compared to how it was when you first woke up here
  386. 386.
    >Guess you're getting used to this body
  387. 387.
    >Hopping up onto the bed, you collapse, careful not to hurt your wings any more than you already have
  388. 388.
    >You're asleep almost before your head hits the pillow
  389. 389.
    >Your last thought is that you should do something to thank Zecora for her hospitality
  390. 390.

  391. 391.
    ***
  392. 392.

  393. 393.
    >You jolt awake, sweating bullets
  394. 394.
    >You had been having a very familiar dream, one which had ended when a needle pierced your neck
  395. 395.
    >It takes you a moment to remember where you are, but it comes back slowly
  396. 396.
    >Fuck, still here?
  397. 397.
    >Morning light filters gently through the window, illuminating the motes of dust drifting through the little cottage
  398. 398.
    >Not sure how light even gets in here given how fucking dense the Everfree is
  399. 399.
    >Zecora is bustling around packing various things into a set of saddlebags
  400. 400.
"Good... Good morning, Zecora. Going somewhere?"
  401. 401.
    >You're still not used to this fucking girly voice
  402. 402.
    >She doesn't turn to look at you, but the corner of her mouth quirks up in a smile
  403. 403.
    >Seems she's glad you woke up. Kind of concerning that that was in question but whatever
  404. 404.
"Bring some things into Ponyville I must, you will come with me I trust?"
  405. 405.
    >You sigh
  406. 406.
    >It's going to be a long trip if she's talking like this the whole time
  407. 407.
    >Ultimately though you seem to remember the Everfree Forest being pretty treacherous, so going with her is probably a good idea
  408. 408.
"Absolutely. Wouldn't miss it for the world."
  409. 409.
    >She looks vaguely pleased
  410. 410.
"Very good, indeed. Breakfast is ready for you there, when you need."
  411. 411.
    >She gestures to a bowl and ladle next to the cauldron
  412. 412.
    >It's kind of a struggle figuring out how to maneuver the ladle with your mouth but you manage to do it without spilling, much
  413. 413.
    >The stew is actually even better than it was yesterday
  414. 414.
    >By the time you finish eating, she's done packing, and you head out the door together
  415. 415.
    >She walks slowly but confidently through the woods, as you limp behind her
  416. 416.
    >It's pretty clear she knows this place like the back of her hand (hoof?)
  417. 417.
    >After about fifteen minutes you're already sure you're lost, but Zecora always seems to know what path to take
  418. 418.
    >You take in the foliage around you idly, thinking about everything that's happened so far and where this is going
  419. 419.
    >Where and when does this end? It feels like it has been days, and according to Zecora it has
  420. 420.
    >When do you wake up?
  421. 421.
    >Your thoughts are interrupted as you realise you've lost sight of Zecora
  422. 422.
    >Fuck. Gotta stop getting distracted
  423. 423.
    "Zecora?"
  424. 424.
    >You look around, but don't see her anywhere
  425. 425.
    >Up ahead through the trees, you can make out shapes moving and hear the growling of some beast
  426. 426.
    >It's moving towards you
  427. 427.
    >You look around desperately for somewhere to hide
  428. 428.
    >The sounds are approaching rapidly, as they get closer you can hear there are multiple somethings moving through the brush
  429. 429.
    >You can hear growling and barking
  430. 430.
    >Fuckfuckfuck
  431. 431.
    >Just as they get start to crest the ridge, a pair of striped legs covers your vision, and yanks you off your feet and down onto the ground
  432. 432.
    >You're underneath a fallen log, in a small hollow created by some kind of soil erosion
  433. 433.
    >You open your mouth to thank her and Zecora places a hoof squarely over it, giving you a meaningful look and glancing up at the sounds of barking and growling
  434. 434.
    >After a moment you hear several pairs of footsteps race by, and then they start growing quieter as whatever it is runs past you
  435. 435.
    >A few minutes pass in tense silence before Zecora says anything
  436. 436.
"A dangerous place is this land, Nona must pay close attention, you understand."
  437. 437.
    >Nona? Right, that's what you told her your name was. Why Nona?
  438. 438.
    >Your name is Anon, and you're a human man, goddamnit
  439. 439.
    >Why was Nona the first thing that came to mind when she asked your name?
  440. 440.
    >It wasn't like you were trying to hide your name or anything
  441. 441.
    >Whatever, this place is fucking getting to you
  442. 442.
    >Zecora gets up, and climbs out of the hollow
  443. 443.
    >You follow suit, clumsily clambering up after her
  444. 444.
    >For the rest of the trip you've got your head on a swivel, and you don't put too much more thought into anything other than not losing track of Zecora again
  445. 445.
    >There are a lot of things people could say about you, but at the very least you don't make the same mistakes more than once
  446. 446.
    >The rest of the journey is fairly uneventful
  447. 447.
    >Zecora stops occasionally and starts listening carefully a few times, and you follow her lead
  448. 448.
    >You can't hear anything suspicious but you're starting to feel a bit incompetent and it's irritating
  449. 449.
    >You're not sure how long it's been but it feels like a few hours at least by the time you start seeing light peeking between the trunks of the trees on the path ahead
  450. 450.
    >Zecora's pace has sped up somewhat, and despite the aching in your hoof you're eager enough to be free of this forest that you manage to keep up
  451. 451.
    >You approach the edge of the forest, and as you step past the threshold of the trees you're blinded by the brilliant light of the sun
  452. 452.
    >You squint, your eyes having adjusted to the gloom of the Everfree at this point
  453. 453.
    >But you don't care, you're just glad to be free of that goddamn place
  454. 454.
    >Fuck your leg hurts
  455. 455.
"Arrived at Ponyville have we, and happy about it you must be."
  456. 456.
    >Goddamn you can't wait to have a conversation with somepony that talks normally
  457. 457.
    >SomeONE, fuck
  458. 458.
    >Despite your general annoyance at the moment you feel incredibly grateful towards Zecora
  459. 459.
    >Were it not for her you would not have survived
  460. 460.
    >Not that you can die here because this isn't real goddamnit
  461. 461.
"Thank you again Zecora, I owe you my life. I wish I had something to repay you with, but it will have to wait. I'm dead broke at the moment."
  462. 462.
    >You feel the urge to hug her, and give in
  463. 463.
    >You're not sure why but it just feels right
  464. 464.
    >She looks at you somewhat curiously, and you can't tell what she's thinking behind those eyes
  465. 465.
"Pay it forward, somepony else you can reward."
  466. 466.
    >Sure thing Zecora
  467. 467.
    >You bid your farewells and start walking towards town
  468. 468.
    >Now what exactly the fuck were you going to do here?
  469. 469.
    >Honestly you thought you would have woken up by now
  470. 470.
    >You're getting increasingly worried that this is not some dream you're going to wake up from
  471. 471.
    >You refuse to confront that possibility at the moment though
  472. 472.
    >The plan here was to check out Equestria and see how far this dream went, and so far it seems like it goes pretty fucking far
  473. 473.
    >But now that you're here you're not really sure what to do next
  474. 474.
    >Up ahead you can see more of Ponyville coming into view, and in the distance the mountains upon which Canterlot is built
  475. 475.
    >God it really is pretty here
  476. 476.
    >Okay so you're going to have to confront the fact that you might not wake up from this
  477. 477.
    >Fuck it, all balls
  478. 478.
    >Let's just run with that theory for a moment
  479. 479.
    >Magic is real, you actually are in Equestria, and you're... a mare
  480. 480.
    >So, if magic got you here it can get you out, right?
  481. 481.
    >So you have to find-
  482. 482.
    "Twilight! Hey, Twilight! Over here!"
  483. 483.
    >You look up and see a pink pony with a curly mess of a mane flailing her arms wildly at a Purple pony...
  484. 484.
    >Well, that was easy
  485. 485.
    >Bookhorse is in sight, purple bangs and everything
  486. 486.
    "Good afternoon, Pinkie!"
  487. 487.
    >Twilight shouts back, laughing at her friend's exuberance
  488. 488.
    >They make their way towards each other and start talking, Pinkie gesticulating wildly as she tells Twilight about some nonsense story or something
  489. 489.
    >Okay, now how to approach this?
  490. 490.
    >Suddenly there's fucking spaghetti spilling from your non-existant pockets
  491. 491.
    >What the fuck? Why would you be nervous about talking to some Pony? You talk to people all the time, it's part of your fucking job
  492. 492.
    >You look closely at Twilight
  493. 493.
    >She's only got the horn, no wings
  494. 494.
    >Okay so she's not an Alicorn yet
  495. 495.
    >You fleetingly consider the implications of you essentially knowing the future in this world and what that means
  496. 496.
    >She glances over at you, noticing your staring
  497. 497.
    >Oh no. You blush furiously
  498. 498.
    >What the fuck is wrong with you?
  499. 499.
    >Twilight waves awkwardly
  500. 500.
"Um... Hi! Can I help you with something?"
  501. 501.
    >Pinkie, meanwhile whirls around and gasps obnoxiously
  502. 502.
    >Before you can respond she squees loudly and fucking takes off down the street
  503. 503.
    >Oh god you know where this is going
  504. 504.
    >Okay whatever, time to talk to Twilight
  505. 505.
    "Y-yeah... I um..."
  506. 506.
    >You find yourself unable to speak, shuffling your hooves nervously
  507. 507.
    >Okay what the fuck is going on? The last time you were nervous to talk to ANYPONY was in high school, and this is just some pony from some show!
  508. 508.
    >Ponyville continues on about it's daily business as Twilight slightly awkwardly, but patiently, waits for you to talk to her
  509. 509.
    >You take a deep breath, mustering your courage. This shouldn't be this fucking hard
  510. 510.
    "I n-need your help... with a spell..."
  511. 511.
    >She looks at you curiously, her interest clearly piqued
  512. 512.
"I can certainly try! I don't think we've met before... My name is Twilight Sparkle. Who are you?"
  513. 513.
    >You shuffle nervously
  514. 514.
    "Um... Nona."
  515. 515.
    >Twilight smiles at you, a genuine smile
  516. 516.
    >Not some corporate facemask, or a forced smile for dealing with people in a professional setting, or like she's waiting for a photo to be taken
  517. 517.
    >Not some fake royalty smile, just a genuine, honest smile
  518. 518.
    >You heart warms, you can't help it. Your cares melt away, and suddenly you don't feel the weight of the worries you've been carrying since you got here
  519. 519.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nona."
  520. 520.
    >She looks at you, clearly noting your injured state as she sees the bandages wrapping your leg and wings
  521. 521.
    >You can see the gears turning as she immediately files that away, already conjuring theories on your state
  522. 522.
"Are you okay, Nona? You look... A little beat up."
  523. 523.
    >You can't help but laugh softly
  524. 524.
"Yeah, I'm... not the best flier. Zecora saved me, actually. I crashed in the forest and... Well, I owe her my life."
  525. 525.
    >Twilight looks concerned
  526. 526.
"That's terrible! Have you been to the hospital yet?"
  527. 527.
    >You look down bashfully
  528. 528.
"No... I'm fine, really! I just..."
  529. 529.
    >You struggle to put into words what you're thinking. There's so many things you need to tell her, but you're not sure where to even start
  530. 530.
    >How you came to be here, who-what you really are, how do you even begin?
  531. 531.
    >All your aches and pains start coming back, and you feel a lump forming in your throat
  532. 532.
    >Where are these emotions coming from? Hold yourself together man, good god
  533. 533.
    >Twilight can clearly see the distress written on your face
  534. 534.
    >She comes closer, clearly concerned
  535. 535.
"Why don't you come with me, Nona? We'll get you checked out at the hospital and you can tell me about this spell. I'm sure Zecora did a great job patching you up, but it's better just be sure, right?"
  536. 536.
    >Your eyes sting
  537. 537.
    "I... I don't have any money."
  538. 538.
    >Twilight shrugs it off immediately
  539. 539.
"Nonsense, you won't have to pay for anything. And if you did I would help you out."
  540. 540.
    >She smiles gently, wrapping a hoof around your shoulders
  541. 541.
    >You nod, too overcome with emotion to speak
  542. 542.
    >You know that if you talk you'll start crying, and you refuse to do that gay shit
  543. 543.
    >The two of you walk through the streets of Ponyville towards the hospital, Twilight helping to support you
  544. 544.
    >It's embarrassing, but you're exhausted again, and so glad you have someone to lean on
  545. 545.
    >It doesn't take that long to get to the hospital, and before you know it you're being looked at by a handsome blue unicorn stallion in a white doctor's coat
  546. 546.
    >Wait, handsome? What the fu-
  547. 547.
"Miss Nona, is it? Can you tell me where you feel pain?"
  548. 548.
    >You blush, not sure what to feel right now
  549. 549.
"Yeah... My wings, and my hoof."
  550. 550.
    >He nods
  551. 551.
    "Of course. May I?"
  552. 552.
    >You nod bashfully, trying your best to look anywhere but his beautiful eyes
  553. 553.
    >What the fuck Anon? Get it together
  554. 554.
    >He spends about a half hour, all told, examining you, and redressing your wings and leg
  555. 555.
    >You spend the whole time steadfastly looking at the ceiling, trying to conceal your flushed cheeks
  556. 556.
    >Twilight is in the waiting room when you get back, she smiles and thanks the doctor for seeing you so quickly
  557. 557.
    >Did she really stay here the whole time waiting for you? She just met you, what the hell is with this place?
  558. 558.
    >Twilight turns to look at you
  559. 559.
"How are you feeling, Nona? You look a little flushed. Are you feeling feverish at all?"
  560. 560.
    >You look away quickly
  561. 561.
"Um yeah! Slight fever, doctor assures me it's fine. No need to worry!"
  562. 562.
    >She looks at you carefully, and although you can't tell what she's thinking you suspect she can see right through you
  563. 563.
"...Right, well I'm glad to hear it! Now, do you think you can walk and talk? I don't live too far from here."
  564. 564.
    >You look at her quizzically
  565. 565.
"Well, you're obviously new in town. I figured you would need somewhere to stay until you find a place!"
  566. 566.
    >You stare at her, not sure what to say
  567. 567.
    >You feel tears welling in your eyes again, and you do your best to blink them away
  568. 568.
"Th... Thank you Twilight. That really means a lot."
  569. 569.
    >Twilight waves it off
  570. 570.
"Don't mention it. I'm sure you would do the same for me were our positions reversed!"
  571. 571.
    >There it is, that stabbing guilt that hits you right in the gut
  572. 572.
    >God you hate that feeling
  573. 573.
    >Compared to that feeling you'd rather take two broken wings and a leg
  574. 574.
    >You both start walking, making slow progress thanks to your injured state
  575. 575.
    >Twilight doesn't quiz you on the spell situation, although you can tell she really wants to know
  576. 576.
    >You keep thinking about how to phrase it, what to say and how to go about it, but you're getting nowhere
  577. 577.
    >You're just too damn tired. Your leg aches and your wings are sore after that handsome- that fucking doctor examined them, stretching them out and whatnot
  578. 578.
"I'm sure you're curious about... the spell I need help with, Twilight."
  579. 579.
    >Her ears perk up, belying her curiosity
  580. 580.
"I don't even know where to start. I'm sorry I just... didn't know what else to do."
  581. 581.
    >She looks a bit disappointed, but she perks up pretty quickly
  582. 582.
"It's okay Nona, you don't have to tell me anything until you're ready. I can tell it's weighing on you."
  583. 583.
    >That's an understatement. You're a fucking mess right now, all these conflicting feelings swirling in your head until it feels like it might burst
  584. 584.
    >God you need to eat, and sleep, then you can think
  585. 585.
    >You're just about to pass an enormous tree when Twilight stops walking
  586. 586.
    "Well, here we are!"
  587. 587.
    >She says, looking up at the tree adoringly
  588. 588.
    >Right, she lives in the tree library. Oof, better enjoy it while she can you guess
  589. 589.
    >You're reminded that you essentially know the future in this realm
  590. 590.
    >That's also a burden, don't even want to fucking think about that right now
  591. 591.
"Wow, that's quite the place Twilight! It's beautiful."
  592. 592.
    >You muster as much genuine surprise as you can, but you know it comes across as pretty lame
  593. 593.
    >What would happen if you told her the things you knew? How are you going to hide what you know?
  594. 594.
    >Fuck you're too tired for this
  595. 595.
    >She looks at you curiously, again, as you avoid her gaze, instead appearing preoccupied admiring the tree
  596. 596.
    >Although you can't pretend to be surprised, you are genuinely impressed seeing the Library in person. It's a beautiful place to live, and it's more impressive than you had remembered
  597. 597.
    >Twilight steps up to the door, and her horn lights up as an identical glow appears around the doorknob
  598. 598.
    "Well, shall we?"
  599. 599.
    >You nod, tearing your eyes away from the tree
  600. 600.
    >Twilight opens the door, magically, of course, and you're greeted by a fucking explosion of confetti
  601. 601.
    "SURPRISE!"
  602. 602.
    >Jesus fucking Christ you forgot about Pinkie
  603. 603.
    >It looks like she's packed half of Ponyville into the library
  604. 604.
    >It's been like fourty minutes since she met you, how did she manage this?
  605. 605.
    >Pinkie literally bounces up to you and wraps you in a big hug, although she's actually careful not to hurt you
  606. 606.
"Hi! My name's Pinkie, what's your name? Actually I already overheard your name wasNonait'snicetomeetyou!WelcometoPonyville,Isawthatyouwereinjuredandalsothatyou'renewsoIthoughtI'dthrowabigpartytowelcomeyouandmakeyoufeelbetter!Isn'tthisexcitingohmygoshIjustlovepartiesandmeetingnewponies,it'sjustmyfavouritething..."
  607. 607.
    >You can see Twilight supressing her laughter as you look to her for help as Pinkie talks a million fucking miles an hour
  608. 608.
    >She just doesn't stop, god you almost wish you were back talking with Zecora instead
  609. 609.
    >Despite this you find yourself genuinely touched by Pinkie's actions
  610. 610.
    >You manage to thank her as she continues babbling about whatever shit, you stopped listening a while ago
  611. 611.
    >After she bounces back inside you follow suit, and there's a bunch of cake, cupcakes, cider, all sorts of snacks and party games
  612. 612.
    >You talk to a dizzying amount of ponies while music plays loudly, introducing yourself and meeting them
  613. 613.
    >This is actually where you shine, memorizing names and faces and talking to people is basically your fucking bread and butter, and you kill it
  614. 614.
    >Despite this you're still exhausted, and Twilight eventually, mercifully, breaks up the party and ushers out the guests
  615. 615.
"I'm sorry folks but our new arrival is injured and exhausted! I'm sure you'll get to know her well enough over the coming days and weeks. Right, Nona?"
  616. 616.
    >She looks over at you, beaming, and you smile falteringly
  617. 617.
    "Yeah... of course!"
  618. 618.
    >It... feels bad, to lie about this. You shouldn't care, you know that, but you do anyway
  619. 619.
    >Not because you feel like you're talking to hallucinations or some shit
  620. 620.
    >But because you genuinely care
  621. 621.
    >God you can't handle this right now
  622. 622.
    >Twilight finishes ushering everyone out, and closes the door with a sigh
  623. 623.
"I hope that wasn't too much Nona, you look exhausted."
  624. 624.
    >You smile at her weakly
  625. 625.
    >It's not much, but it's real
  626. 626.
"Not at all. It's all just... a bit overwhelming. The ponies here are incredibly nice and... I just feel..."
  627. 627.
    >You falter, not sure how to continue
  628. 628.
    >Like you don't belong. Like you don't deserve this
  629. 629.
    "Tired. And sore."
  630. 630.
    >Pussy
  631. 631.
    >Whatever, shut up Anon
  632. 632.
    >You're a faggot
  633. 633.
    >Fuck you
  634. 634.
    >You shake your head, clearing this nonsense from your mind
  635. 635.
    >Twilight looks at you, perceptive as always
  636. 636.
    >But she's graceful enough not to comment on the things she knows you're hiding from her
  637. 637.
"You'll be staying here on the first floor. I'm just upstairs. Let me know if you need anything, okay?"
  638. 638.
    >You nod, and she uses her magic to put together a makeshift bed on the spot
  639. 639.
    >Honestly not bad, it's pretty comfy
  640. 640.
    >Twilight heads upstairs and puts the lights out, and you lie in silence in the bed
  641. 641.
    >Staring up into the darkness, thoughts whirling through your mind
  642. 642.
    >It doesn't last long though, you're too tired and sleep claims you before you can really get any thinking done
  643. 643.
    >Darkness
  644. 644.

  645. 645.
    ***
  646. 646.

  647. 647.
    >You wake up screaming, you can fucking feel the needle in your neck, the blood dripping, the narcotics seeping into your bloodstream. Your wrists and ankles burn, the ropes digging in and cutting your circulation off
  648. 648.
    >The witch looms over you, purple eyes burning into you
  649. 649.
    >It's all gone in an instant
  650. 650.
    >Twilight is standing over you, she's got her hooves on your shoulders, her face concerned
  651. 651.
    >Your eyes are wet with tears, you can feel them running down your cheeks
  652. 652.
    >You look up at her, your mind still churning as you struggle to fight off the remnants of your dream, like tentacles trying to drag you under the surface of a black lake
  653. 653.
"-ona, listen to me! It's okay, you're okay!"
  654. 654.
    >You start sobbing uncontrollably
  655. 655.
    "I-I'm s-sorry... I d-didn't know... didn't m-mean to wake you..."
  656. 656.
    >She looks relieved to have gotten through to you. Who knows how long she's been there, trying to wake you
  657. 657.
"It's alright, you're okay now. What's wrong? Was it just a bad dream?"
  658. 658.
    >You sniffle, feeling naked and vulnerable under her piercing gaze
  659. 659.
    "Y-yeah."
  660. 660.
    >You wipe your eyes with your hoof, trying to master yourself
  661. 661.
    >You manage a weak smile
  662. 662.
"J-just something I dream about occasionally."
  663. 663.
    >She looks at you, clearly not buying your shit
  664. 664.
    "Occasionally?"
  665. 665.
    >You crumble under that withering eye
  666. 666.
"Okay every night since I got here. Except... for when I was fully unconscious from head trauma."
  667. 667.
    >She looks at you suspiciously, but then seemingly decides she believes you
  668. 668.
"You have the same nightmare every night? Does this have to do with that spell you need help with?"
  669. 669.
    >You avoid looking her in the eyes
  670. 670.
    "Yeah... in a sense."
  671. 671.
    >She looks at you intently, and you give in, looking her in the eyes
  672. 672.
"I'm... I'm still not ready to talk about it. I'm sorry, Twilight. I wish I could just tell you everything but I... I have to be careful."
  673. 673.
    >Twilight keeps staring at you, you can see the gears turning in her head
  674. 674.
    >After a moment she speaks
  675. 675.
"It's okay Nona. I won't deny that my curiosity is piqued, but I don't want to push your boundaries. I do, however, have a few ideas for how to help your sleeping issues."
  676. 676.
    >Your ears perk up
  677. 677.
    "You do?"
  678. 678.
    >Yet again you find yourself surprised at how genuinely hopeful your voice sounds
  679. 679.
    >She nods.
  680. 680.
"But let's save it for the morning. Would you like to sleep with me for the rest of the night?"
  681. 681.
    >She blushes slightly
  682. 682.
"Back when I used to have nightmares as a foal I would hop in bed with my parents, and that always helped."
  683. 683.
    >You cough, conflicted
  684. 684.
    >You weigh your options, not sure what to think
  685. 685.
"Okay... Yeah, let's do that. I'm desperate at this point."
  686. 686.
    >She nods, and you both make your way upstairs to her bed
  687. 687.
    >Slipping under the covers, you're both a little awkward about it but eventually you snuggle in and spend the rest of the night as Twilight's little spoon
  688. 688.
    >Needless to say you sleep immaculately for the rest of the night
  689. 689.

  690. 690.
    ***
  691. 691.

  692. 692.
    >You awaken slowly, blearily, the next morning. Your thoughts inevitably turning to the events of the last few days
  693. 693.
    >In particular these nightmares are odd
  694. 694.
    >When you first got here you felt somewhat blasé about the whole situation, hell even while it was happening you weren't REALLY scared
  695. 695.
    >But now that you're here in this body... it bothers you more than you'd like to admit
  696. 696.
    >Guess that's called trauma or whatever
  697. 697.
    >Back on Earth you used to say that trauma was something women used as an excuse to be a whore
  698. 698.
    >Fucking shows you, you guess
  699. 699.
    >Whatever, thinking about this topic is uncomfortable
  700. 700.
    >Twilight has her leg wrapped protectively around you, her warmth and weight is comforting
  701. 701.
    >You look around the Library, your mane splayed delicately around your head on the pillow
  702. 702.
    >You feel like a little flower or some gay shit
  703. 703.
    >Careful not to move too much, you crane your neck around to look out the window, and find it looks like it's sometime in the early morning
  704. 704.
    >Twilight breathes softly, her breath gently brushing the fur on your neck
  705. 705.
    >Speaking of brushing you could use one
  706. 706.
    >Your mane is kind of a disaster, and for some reason you don't understand you find it embarrassing
  707. 707.
    >Don't want anypony thinking you're some tramp from the woods
  708. 708.
    >Although technically that's precisely correct
  709. 709.
    >You carefully wriggle out from Twilight's grasp, much as it pains you
  710. 710.
    >Rolling out of bed you stand up and stretch like a cat
  711. 711.
    >Kind of weird but it feels nice so fuck it
  712. 712.
    >Your wings actually feel a lot better today, you're pretty sure you could do a bit of flying if you're up for it
  713. 713.
    >You try to ignore the images of your broken body being hurled through the Everfree that flash through your mind
  714. 714.
    >Maybe we'll take it easy on the flying for now
  715. 715.
    >Besides, you can imagine a certain blue Pegasus that you might be able to convince to give you some lessons
  716. 716.
    >Looking over your shoulder you can see Twilight is still sleeping peacefully
  717. 717.
    >God she's cute, not really your type though
  718. 718.
    >So what is your type?
  719. 719.
    >You shake your head trying to clear out these intrusive thoughts
  720. 720.
    >You head down the stairs onto the main floor of the Library and take a look around, noting all of the streamers and confetti and shit left over from Pinkie's surprise party last night
  721. 721.
    >Shaking your head, you sigh
  722. 722.
    >Might as well clean this shit up, it's the least you can do
  723. 723.
    >It takes the better part of an hour to get everything put away, and by the time you're done you can hear Twilight stirring upstairs
  724. 724.
    >She pokes her head over the balcony and looks down at you blearily
  725. 725.
"Good morning, Nona. You've been busy!"
  726. 726.
    >She murmurs
  727. 727.
    >You smile sheepishly, looking up at her
  728. 728.
"Um... yeah. Least I could do."
  729. 729.
    >You're about to say more when you're interrupted by a loud growling from your stomach
  730. 730.
    >Shit you're starving, you haven't eaten since yesterday morning
  731. 731.
    >Twilight giggles
  732. 732.
"Sounds like someone's hungry. Give me a few minutes to get ready and we'll go grab some breakfast!"
  733. 733.
    >Before she turns to leave you speak up
  734. 734.
"Hey Twilight! Do you have a brush I could borrow? I'm feeling a bit... ragged."
  735. 735.
    >You feel like a burden, but for some reason you can't stand the thought of walking around Ponyville in this state
  736. 736.
    >She nods, seemingly nonplussed about the request
  737. 737.
    "Of course! Follow me."
  738. 738.
    >There it is, that fucking guilty feeling again
  739. 739.
    >Eugh not again
  740. 740.
    >You follow her upstairs and into the bathroom, where she levitates a small box with some brushes and combs out from under the sink
  741. 741.
    >She looks at you, her eyes sparkling
  742. 742.
"Here, you can brush my mane out and I'll do yours."
  743. 743.
    >Twilight you fool
  744. 744.
    >You're making a grave mistake
  745. 745.
    "O-okay, sure... yeah."
  746. 746.
    >You manage to stammer out
  747. 747.
    >You pick up one of the larger brushes in your teeth and start doing your best to brush out her mane while she effortlessly levitates a comb through yours
  748. 748.
    >Shit maybe it would have been better to be a unicorn, using your mouth for this stuff is awkward and difficult
  749. 749.
    >You are actually starting to get the hang of it though
  750. 750.
    >By the time you're done your mane is in great shape, and hers is almost presentable
  751. 751.
    >She finishes brushing her mane herself, smiling at you knowingly
  752. 752.
"You don't have too much practice with this do you?"
  753. 753.
    >You shuffle your hooves
  754. 754.
"Uh... no. I'm not... I don't usually have long hair."
  755. 755.
    >Once again she seems unbothered, which for some reason still bothers you
  756. 756.
"Don't worry about it Nona, I happen to know an EXCELLENT mane and tail stylist."
  757. 757.
    >Of course, Rarity is a thing. How could you forget?
  758. 758.
"Thank you Twilight... I would really like to give something back to you, though. I appreciate everything you've done for me and I feel like I'm taking advantage."
  759. 759.
    >She rolls her eyes
  760. 760.
"Don't be ridiculous, it's no trouble at all. If you really are earnest about that, though, I'm sure we can find a place for you to work in town somewhere. But for now, let's go eat. I'm famished."
  761. 761.
    >You nod, you feel like you could eat a horse
  762. 762.
    >You almost say that out loud, but think better of it
  763. 763.
    >The two of you finish up and head out of the Library, making your way towards the cafe
  764. 764.
    >Twilight tells you about the town as you walk, some of its history and a little bit about the locals
  765. 765.
    >You can tell she's trying to take your mind off of your troubles, and you're both impressed with her tact and appreciative of the effort
  766. 766.
    >After a few minutes you're seated at the cafe, and you let Twilight take care of the ordering
  767. 767.
    >You're not sure what the fuck you would order anyway
  768. 768.
    >Twilight orders two daisy sandwiches as it turns out
  769. 769.
    >Great, horse food
  770. 770.
    >You look around the cafe's surroundings while you wait, admiring the quaint style of the architecture
  771. 771.
    >This place is so pretty, it reminds you of the old rancher your dad left you back home
  772. 772.
    >Home... with its dreary modern buildings, its day-to-day grind, and apparently unstable homeless wizards
  773. 773.
    "-ona? You there?"
  774. 774.
    >You snap out of your reverie, noticing Twilight looking at you
  775. 775.
    "S-sorry, what?"
  776. 776.
    >She blinks, her expression inscrutable
  777. 777.
"I was saying I have a few ideas about your nightmares."
  778. 778.
    >You nod
  779. 779.
"Right, of course. Please, go ahead."
  780. 780.
    >She pauses a bit, studying your face before continuing
  781. 781.
"Well, we could try asking Princess Luna for help. Nightmares are kind of her domain, although she is a little sore about the topic still."
  782. 782.
    >Your mind races
  783. 783.
    >Aren't Luna and Celestia basically like the immortal gods of this world?
  784. 784.
    >You're not sure how you feel about that. You just have this feeling that meeting either of them is not a good idea, although you're not sure why
  785. 785.
"I'm touched that you would go that far for me Twilight but... Isn't that a little below her concern?"
  786. 786.
    >She smiles at that
  787. 787.
"Please Nona, the welfare of their subjects should never be beneath the concerns of our rulers. They wouldn't be very good rulers otherwise, would they?"
  788. 788.
    >...Yeah. You're starting to feel like an asshole now
  789. 789.
    >You nod, feeling that stabbing guilt again right in your gut
  790. 790.
"I suppose you're right. If it's okay I'd still like to hold off on that."
  791. 791.
    >She looks at you curiously, again you can see bookhorse trying to suss out your motives
  792. 792.
"I just don't want to bother her if it's not necessary!"
  793. 793.
    >She continues looking at you, and you can see in her eyes... disappointment?
  794. 794.
    >She shrugs
  795. 795.
"Well, I have two other ideas. For one, we can see if Zecora can brew up something to help you sleep. Alternatively, you could just make sure you sleep with another pony in the meantime. It's not a permanent solution, but it seemed to work well enough last night."
  796. 796.
    >Before you can respond, Twilight looks up over your shoulder and smiles
  797. 797.
"Hi, Blue Cross! Nice to see you this morning."
  798. 798.
    >Who?
  799. 799.
    >You turn around and OHFUCK
  800. 800.
    >It's that handsome doctor from yesterday
  801. 801.
    >You can immediately feel your cheeks colouring
  802. 802.
    "Good morning, Twilight."
  803. 803.
    >He says with an easy smile
  804. 804.
    >He turns his attention to you
  805. 805.
"How's our patient doing? Looks like you're taking good care of her."
  806. 806.
    >Your mind goes completely blank
  807. 807.
    >All you can do is giggle nervously
  808. 808.
    >God what the fuck is wrong with you?
  809. 809.
    >Thankfully he looks back to Twilight
  810. 810.
"Be sure to bring her in if there's any complications, alright? My doors are always open."
  811. 811.
    >He turns back to you, placing a hoof gently on your shoulder
  812. 812.
"And if those bandages are giving you any trouble you can visit me anytime."
  813. 813.
    >You mumble something that sounds vaguely like "thank you"
  814. 814.
    >He turns as the waiter approaches
  815. 815.
"Looks like your food is here! I'll leave you to it. Ladies."
  816. 816.
    >He nods his head and continues walking down the street, towards the hospital
  817. 817.
    >Finally, you can fucking use your brain again
  818. 818.
    >What is going on here? Actually, you don't want to think about it
  819. 819.
    >You turn back to Twilight to find her eyes dancing with mirth
  820. 820.
    >Don't you say a fucking word Twilight
  821. 821.
    >The waiter places the sandwiches on your table, and despite yourself it looks... really good actually
  822. 822.
    >Goddamnit you're a human, a fucking human man and you're not going to eat a daisy sandwich
  823. 823.
    >Twilight levitates her sandwich up to take a bite, and your willpower crumbles as your hunger overwhelms your pride
  824. 824.
    >Okay fine I'll try it, it smells delicious
  825. 825.
    >You take a bite and find... it actually doesn't taste like flowers at all
  826. 826.
    >Sure there are some floral notes in there but it tastes like spices, sweet and savoury all at once
  827. 827.
    >It's gone in no time at all, and you find yourself wishing you could have another
  828. 828.
    >The mind is willing but the body says you've had enough
  829. 829.
    >You chat idly with Twilight as you both finish your food, and the topic eventually turns to work
  830. 830.
"So what kind of skills do you have, Nona? I seem to recall Mayor Mare saying she was looking for a new secretary and bookkeeper if you've any skill with numbers."
  831. 831.
    >Oh god anything but that
  832. 832.
    >Memories of Joseph rambling about this Arabian Prince he's invested in come flooding into your mind
  833. 833.
    >Then again, you owe the residents of Ponyville a debt for treating you like this, and you have to start somewhere
  834. 834.
"Actually, that sounds perfect Twilight. I can't thank you enough."
  835. 835.
    >She nods sweetly, and then her expression turns serious
  836. 836.
"You can thank me by telling me the truth, and what you needed my help with."
  837. 837.
    >You stare at her in shock, surprised at her directness
  838. 838.
    >She looks at you sympathetically
  839. 839.
"You don't have to tell me everything, not yet at least. But I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for your honesty, is it?"
  840. 840.
    >You look down, ashamed
  841. 841.
    >She's right, of course
  842. 842.
    >You've been delaying this, hoping you could avoid it but it was inevitable
  843. 843.
"...Okay. But you have to promise to keep it to yourself for now, okay? I don't want to have to explain myself to everypony else."
  844. 844.
    >Her eyes burn with curiosity
  845. 845.
    >She puts a hoof over her chest
  846. 846.
"Cross my heart, hope to cry, stick a cupcake in my eye."
  847. 847.
    >That brings a smile to your face
  848. 848.
"And... there are some things I can't tell you. I can't explain why but you just have to believe me that I can't."
  849. 849.
    >She looks less pleased at this, but at this point you can tell she will take what she can get
  850. 850.
    "So... I'm not from here."
  851. 851.
    >She continues staring at you
  852. 852.
"Well, obviously. Everypony around here knows to steer clear of the Everfree Forest."
  853. 853.
    >You stifle a laugh
  854. 854.
"No, like I'm not from this WORLD."
  855. 855.
    >She looks at you like her dreams have come true
  856. 856.
"No way. You mean multiverse theory?"
  857. 857.
    >Lmao what a fucking nerd she is
  858. 858.
"Yeah, pretty much. Until a few days ago I was in my own world, some stuff happened and then I got sent here. I don't really want to get into the details but the stuff that happened is what I've been having nightmares about."
  859. 859.
    >She looks fascinated
  860. 860.
"And you think that this is a sort of message, and that if you can get back to your own world these nightmares will go away."
  861. 861.
    >It's a statement, not a question
  862. 862.
    >You nod anyway
  863. 863.
"And that's what you wanted the spell for. Some kind of planar transportation spell."
  864. 864.
    >You nod again
  865. 865.
    >She stares at you, you can see the curiosity eating away at her but it seems she manages to refrain from peppering you with questions
  866. 866.
    >Her expression turns a bit rueful
  867. 867.
"Well I'm sorry to say Nona but I think that sort of magic is beyond me. Perhaps with years of study I could do enough research into that area to help you but... as it stands I can't help you."
  868. 868.
    >Your heart plummets, but... not as much as you would have expected
  869. 869.
"You mean you can't just magick me away back to my own world? Can't you just teleport anywhere, how is that any different?"
  870. 870.
    >She shakes her head
  871. 871.
"It's not that simple. Magical teleportation is one thing, but that's typically to and from places you're at least somewhat familiar with. Shifting between planes of existance is... something else entirely. I haven't done a lot of research on it personally, but I've rarely even seen any research materials on it in any Library I've been to anywhere, and from what I have seen it's dangerous."
  872. 872.
    >You can't help but look crestfallen
  873. 873.
    >You know she would help you if she could, but it's still disappointing
  874. 874.
"Teleporting here is like... imagine walking to the store in your hometown. You know where it is, and you know how to get there, because you know what to look for all around you. There are buildings you recognise, streetsigns, that sort of thing. Now imagine your hometown is... infinitely big. There are no signs, and buildings underground, in the sky, everywhere and with no way to tell them apart. And it goes on FOREVER. That's plane shifting. You see the problem?"
  875. 875.
    >You nod sadly
  876. 876.
    >She looks up at you, noticing how dejected you look. Seems she was moreso talking to herself by the end of that
  877. 877.
"But buck up Nona! I may not be able to help you, but there might be somepony who can."
  878. 878.
    >You look up at her, not wanting to acknowledge what you know she's thinking
  879. 879.
    "Who?"
  880. 880.
"Princess Celestia, of course! She's the wisest and strongest pony I know of. Other than maybe Star Swirl the Bearded... But he's obviously not an option."
  881. 881.
    >Damnit you knew she was going to say that
  882. 882.
    >You don't know why but you have this overwhelming feeling that you shouldn't meet Luna OR Celestia. Especially not Celestia
  883. 883.
    >Fuck it you'll say it, you're afraid of her, and you don't know why
  884. 884.
"...Yes. I suppose that's the only way, isn't it?"
  885. 885.
    >Twilight looks at you, clearly not understanding your aversion to meeting either of the two regents of this land
  886. 886.
    >You don't understand it yourself so you're not about to try to explain it
  887. 887.
"Well... maybe if the opportunity presents itself. For now, though, I'd just like to focus on repaying my debt to Ponyville."
  888. 888.
    >She nods, and stands up
  889. 889.
"Let's go to Rarity's first. She can spruce you up a bit before you introduce yourself to the mayor."
  890. 890.
    >You look at her nervously
  891. 891.
    "You mean you're not coming?"
  892. 892.
    >She shakes her head
  893. 893.
"I have some things to take care of today, but you'll do fine! Plus, I will write you a letter of recommendation."
  894. 894.
    >You nod
  895. 895.
    "Okay. Thank you, Twilight."
  896. 896.
    >She beams at you
  897. 897.
    "Shall we?"
  898. 898.
    >You stand up and together you begin walking to Rarity's Boutique
  899. 899.

  900. 900.
    ***
  901. 901.

  902. 902.
    >By the time you reach the Boutique it's approaching noon
  903. 903.
    >It only took a few minutes to walk there but you had spent more time than you realised chatting with Twilight at the cafe
  904. 904.
    >The bustle of Ponyville is calming, ponies walking to and fro going about their daily business
  905. 905.
    >Back home it was just... too much. So much traffic, noise, people, everywhere. A constant chatter that set your teeth on edge
  906. 906.
    >Here it's more like the wind blowing through the trees, or a babbling stream
  907. 907.
    >You look up at the building as you approach, standing tall and imposing closer to the edge of town
  908. 908.
    >Honestly it's a little garish, but whatever
  909. 909.
    >Twilight knocks on the door as you approach, and you find yourself somewhat apprehensive about meeting Rarity
  910. 910.
    >You hear her voice from the other side of the door
  911. 911.
    "Just a minute darling!"
  912. 912.
    >After about three minutes (you were counting) the door opens and the stylish white pony stands in front of you, her sewing glasses still on
  913. 913.
    "Twilight!"
  914. 914.
    >She says adoringly, embracing her friend
  915. 915.
    >Rarity turns to you
  916. 916.
"And this must be our new arrival! Nona, was it? It's a pleasure to meet you, darling."
  917. 917.
    >She hugs you too, surprisingly
  918. 918.
    >These goddamn ponies keep surprising you
  919. 919.
    >Twilight speaks up
  920. 920.
"I've just been showing Nona around Ponyville, and she's decided to apply for a job with the mayor. I was hoping you could touch up her mane a bit, as a favour to me?"'
  921. 921.
    >Rarity doesn't hesitate for a second
  922. 922.
"Of course, darling! A friend of Twilight's is a friend of mine. Come in!"
  923. 923.
    >Twilight holds up a hoof
  924. 924.
"I'm sorry Rarity but I actually have to run. Can we catch up later?"
  925. 925.
    >Rarity nods and hugs her again
  926. 926.
"Absolutely, see you this evening. Ta~!"
  927. 927.
    >Twilight embraces her friend again, and turns to you
  928. 928.
"Good luck Nona! I'm sure you'll do fine."
  929. 929.
    >And with that, she's off, leaving you alone with Rarity
  930. 930.
    >Before you know it you're seated as Rarity fusses over your mane, scissors flying around your head perilously
  931. 931.
    >She's damn good with them though
  932. 932.
    >Rarity chats with you as she works
  933. 933.
"So Nona, what brings you to Ponyville?"
  934. 934.
    >You try your best to sit still
  935. 935.
"It's a long story actually. I don't think I'll be staying long, honestly... I just owe Twilight for taking me in, and I'd like to pay her back before I go. Of course, I owe you too now don't I?"
  936. 936.
    >Rarity looks mildly surprised at this
  937. 937.
"Wherever else would you want to go, darling? Isn't Ponyville just the most adorable little town?"
  938. 938.
    >You're kinda stumped at that
  939. 939.
"And that's nonsense, you don't owe me anything! I'm happy to help a pony in need."
  940. 940.
    >There's that familiar feeling in the pit of your stomach
  941. 941.
    >You push it down, trying to ignore it
  942. 942.
    >Celestia, you're sick of that feeling
  943. 943.
    >You're trying, damnit
  944. 944.
    >Rarity seems to have finished with your mane, and is now carefully applying some makeup to your face
  945. 945.
"Oh no, that's really not necessary Rarity I-"
  946. 946.
    >She brushes you off
  947. 947.
"Of course not darling, you're very beautiful as is. But after this~"
  948. 948.
    >She finishes with a flourish, and levitates a mirror over for you to look at
  949. 949.
    "~You'll be drop-dead gorgeous."
  950. 950.
    >In the mirror is a face you barely recognise
  951. 951.
    >The most adorable green pony with a button nose, long fluttering eyelashes and emerald-green eyes
  952. 952.
    >Your mane flows lusciously down your neck in sweeping waves, and your bangs perfectly frame your cute face
  953. 953.
    >You realise you're staring open-mouthed at the mirror, blushing furiously
  954. 954.
    >Rarity looks incredibly pleased with herself
  955. 955.
"You're going to have stallions fighting each other just to talk to you, darling."
  956. 956.
    >You feel tears starting to well in your eyes
  957. 957.
"Rarity I- I don't even know what to say."
  958. 958.
    >Rarity looks alarmed and holds a hoof up
  959. 959.
"No-no! None of that, you'll ruin the blush. Now scamper off, and next time you need a touch up, you just let me know!"
  960. 960.
    >You nod
  961. 961.
    "Thank you, Rarity."
  962. 962.
    >She ushers you out of the Boutique, shaking her head
  963. 963.
"You can thank me by not ruining that makeup! Good luck, darling!"
  964. 964.
    >You bid your farewells, trying to quell this emotion in your chest

    >Walking towards the town hall you get more than a few looks from the stallions you walk by
  969. 969.
    >Damn Rarity wasn't kidding
  970. 970.
    >You shyly look away, not at all used to this sort of attention
  971. 971.
    >It doesn't take too long to reach the town hall, and when you enter you can see there's no receptionist at the desk
  972. 972.
    >Knocking on the door, you're quickly greeted with the beleaguered face of Mayor Mare
  973. 973.
    >She looks rough, like she's been pulling all-nighters
  974. 974.
"Hello! You must be Nona. Twilight dropped off a very complimentary letter of introduction earlier. Come in!"
  975. 975.
    >Entering the office you notice there are stacks of papers everywhere, littering the desk and all over the floor
  976. 976.
    >You're starting to realise that you might not have been the best boss on earth, or the best person frankly
  977. 977.
    >But you ran a tight ship. You would have reamed someone out for having a workstation like this
  978. 978.
    >Too easy to lose documents, and get in trouble with the tax-man
  979. 979.
    >Your archenemy
  980. 980.
    >Oddly you can't actually remember if you ever had to deal with that sort of situation
  981. 981.
    >You're sure you have but... the memory is just slipping away
  982. 982.
    >You're interrupted by Mayor Mare clearing her throat
  983. 983.
    >You look up and she's gesturing to the chair across from her
  984. 984.
    >You carefully use your hooves to move a stack of papers from the chair onto the floor
  985. 985.
    >Not sure how it worked that well but it did
  986. 986.
    >You sit down and look up at her
  987. 987.
"So, Nona. My receptionist and bookkeeper had to leave for Manehattan at the last minute on some emergency business, and I received word from them a few days ago that they actually won't be returning to Ponyville."
  988. 988.
    >She gestures around at the stacks of papers surrounding you both
  989. 989.
"As you can see, you'll have your work cut out for you to start off with. Can you tell me a little bit more about your particular expertise...?"
  990. 990.
    >The two of you talk for about an hour, although the actual interview only lasted about ten minutes
  991. 991.
    >Turns out the two of you have many things in common, dealing with shithead employees being one of them
  992. 992.
    >Mayor Mare checks her watch
  993. 993.
"Well Nona, it's been a pleasure but I should get back to work. Much to do! Can you start right now?"
  994. 994.
    >You blink, surprised yet again
  995. 995.
    "Does that mean I'm... hired?"
  996. 996.
    >She nods, looking over her glasses at you
  997. 997.
"I got the measure of you after the first five minutes we spoke. I think you'll be perfectly suitable for this job, and I need all the help I can get, starting immediately!"
  998. 998.
    >You think for a moment, then nod
  999. 999.
    "Where should I start?"
  1000. 1000.
    >She gestures around her again
  1001. 1001.
"Anywhere, dear. These need to be organised and filed properly yesterday."
  1002. 1002.
    >You sigh
  1003. 1003.
    "Alright. Let's get to work."

  1008. 1008.
    >Your hoof hurts, and you're having trouble focusing your eyes after scanning through hundreds of documents
  1009. 1009.
    >You did manage to get a fair bit done though
  1010. 1010.
    >You're walking back through the streets of Ponyville, the sun hanging low in the sky and casting long shadows that reach across the quaint streets
  1011. 1011.
    >Mulling over your conversation with Twilight earlier, your thoughts turn to Princess Celestia
  1012. 1012.
    >You're still not sure where this feeling of dread involving her and Princess Luna comes from, but you also don't see a way back home without them
  1013. 1013.
    >Seems like you might just have to bite the bullet on this one
  1014. 1014.
    >You walk past a park, idly looking at a few pairs of ponies sitting on blankets and watching the approaching sunset
  1015. 1015.
    >Not really planning on going in any particular direction you find yourself walking downtown
  1016. 1016.
    >Your path takes you to the footsteps of the hospital, where you look up at the enormous peaked roofs
  1017. 1017.
    >Your wings shuffle of their own accord, seemingly
  1018. 1018.
    >Alright fuck it let's get these bandages off
  1019. 1019.
    >You head inside to find the waiting room nearly empty, barely anypony there
  1020. 1020.
    >Approaching the receptionist you're about to ask to see a doctor when you hear a voice from your left
  1021. 1021.
    "Nona?"
  1022. 1022.
    >Ohno
  1023. 1023.

    >Blue Cross stands in front of you, labcoat on and clipboard floating next to him
  1025. 1025.
    >He looks a little shocked to see you, and you can actually see a faint flush on his face too
  1026. 1026.
"Hi! I um... think I'm ready to get these bandages off."
  1027. 1027.
    >You mumble, cursing yourself
  1028. 1028.
    >To his credit he recovers quickly from seeing your new look
  1029. 1029.
    >He looks over to the receptionist
  1030. 1030.
"You can check her in with me, Nurse Redheart."
  1031. 1031.
    >Redheart nods and looks at you a little jealously
  1032. 1032.
    "Of course, doctor."
  1033. 1033.
    >Blue Cross turns back to you
  1034. 1034.
    >He gestures to the hall behind him
  1035. 1035.
    "Right this way!"
  1036. 1036.
    >You step in with him and the two of you walk together down the hall
  1037. 1037.
    >You can't help but sneak glances at him out of the corner of your eye as you walk
  1038. 1038.
    >He's... well built, to put it mildly
  1039. 1039.
    >You can see the muscles rippling on his shoulders and rump beneath the labcoat as he walks
  1040. 1040.
    >Okay settle down Nona you're not into that shit
  1041. 1041.
    >Let's just get these bandages off
  1042. 1042.
    >He brings you to an exam room a few doors down from the main hall, opening the door and waiting for you to step inside
  1043. 1043.
    >Swoon.jpg
  1044. 1044.
    >You walk in and hop up on the patient's chair, settling in awkwardly
  1045. 1045.
    >You're not sure what to do with your tail so you wrap it around the side of your body, letting the hair cascade down the side of the chair
  1046. 1046.
    >Blue Cross follows you in, turning his back to you as he scribbles a few things on his clipboard magically
  1047. 1047.
"I hope you don't mind, Nona. Just taking some notes for your file."
  1048. 1048.
    >You stare at the ceiling to avoid looking at his butt
  1049. 1049.
    "Uh-huh! No problem, Doctor Cross."
  1050. 1050.
    >He turns to look at you, an amused expression on his face
  1051. 1051.
"Please, Blue is just fine. Doctor Cross was my father."
  1052. 1052.
    >You take a deep, shaky breath to steady yourself
  1053. 1053.
    "Blue."
  1054. 1054.
    >You breathe
  1055. 1055.
    >He sets the clipboard down and turns to face you
  1056. 1056.
"So, let's have a look at these wings shall we?"
  1057. 1057.
    >He carefully undoes the bandages on your wings, closely examining them and stretching them out, flexing them in various ways to check for mobility
  1058. 1058.
    >Celestia forgive you, you can't help it
  1059. 1059.
    >While he's distracted you stare at him with half-lidded eyes, admiring every bit of him as he works
  1060. 1060.
    >He glances up at you after he's done the first wing, and suddenly you're looking him dead in the eyes as you realise your muzzles are about three inches apart
  1061. 1061.
    >Celestia help you, they're so deep you could drown in them
  1062. 1062.
    >The colour of autumnal leaves, of amber in the sun
  1063. 1063.
    >Richer than any gold you had ever seen
  1064. 1064.
    >His breath softly stirs the fur on your muzzle and you suddenly have to fight the urge to lean in
  1065. 1065.
    >He seems similarly enraptured, staring into your eyes like he's hypnotized
  1066. 1066.
    >You manage to tear your eyes away, blushing furiously
  1067. 1067.
    >He clears his throat, also looking away
  1068. 1068.
    "Ah-hem... Next wing, please."
  1069. 1069.
    >You can't believe you got caught so openly staring at him
  1070. 1070.
    >Fuck
  1071. 1071.
    >You extend your right wing, while carefully examining the texture of the wood of the door
  1072. 1072.
    >He does the same procedure on this wing, steadfastly avoiding looking directly at you this time
  1073. 1073.
    >You try to compose yourself as he finishes up and turns away, scribbling a few more things down on his clipboard
  1074. 1074.
    >Now is not the fucking time to catch feelings Nona, you have to get home
  1075. 1075.
    >What would be the point, anyway? You're not staying here
  1076. 1076.
    >But you can't shake the mental image of those beautiful eyes staring into yours
  1077. 1077.
    >Blue turns around again
  1078. 1078.
"Congratulations, Nona, you're hereby cleared to fly again. Your leg, however, is going to need a few more days. Just try to stay off it as much as you can, okay?"
  1079. 1079.
    >He smiles at you reassuringly, like you didn't almost just kiss him
  1080. 1080.
    "Thank you Doc... Blue."
  1081. 1081.
    >You murmur, still unable to look directly at him
  1082. 1082.
    >He holds open the door for you again, and follows you after you walk through
  1083. 1083.
    >You walk next to him in a haze, your mind feeling sluggish and dazed
  1084. 1084.
    >He holds open the main doors to the hospital as well, turning to look at you as you walk out
  1085. 1085.
"Come back in two days and we'll see if we can't get those bandages off your leg, alright?"
  1086. 1086.
    >You nod dreamily, and see Nurse Redheart staring daggers at you from the receptionist's desk
  1087. 1087.
    "Uh-huh."
  1088. 1088.
    >You mumble
  1089. 1089.
    >And with that he disappears back into the hospital, and you're alone outside
  1090. 1090.
    >The coolness of night envelops you, your breath briefly visible as a trail of vapour as darkness settles upon Ponyville like a blanket
  1091. 1091.
    >You start making your way back towards the Library, your mind completely empty for once

    >The lanterns within spill light out onto the street, drawing odd dancing shadows on the dark cobblestone walkways
  1097. 1097.
    >You can smell woodsmoke coming from a nearby chimney, sweet and bitter at the same time
  1098. 1098.
    >Fuck it looks cozy
  1099. 1099.
    >As you approach the door, you can hear voices coming from within
  1100. 1100.
    >Twilight must be having some guests over
  1101. 1101.
    >Against your better judgement, your press your sensitive horsey ear to the door
  1102. 1102.
"-ust seems like she's in a lotta pain, Twi."
  1103. 1103.
    >That must be Applejack
  1104. 1104.
    >You hear Twilight pipe up
  1105. 1105.
"That's exactly why I need you to help her!"
  1106. 1106.
    >You hear Rainbow Dash's voice next
  1107. 1107.
"Why can't you do it, Twilight? She's YOUR basket case."
  1108. 1108.
"Rainbow Dash that's very rude. And besides, I already explained this to you. I'm going to Canterlot for a few days and she doesn't have anypony else!"
  1109. 1109.
    >You can hear Rainbow's exasperated sigh
  1110. 1110.
    >Applejack speaks up again
  1111. 1111.
"Settle down, Rainbow. Ah'll stay with 'er Twi."
  1112. 1112.
    "Thank you, Applejack."
  1113. 1113.
    >You can practically feel the accusatory glare Twilight is no doubt casting at Rainbow right now
  1114. 1114.
"Ugghhghghgh, fine! I can foalsit for a day or two I guess."
  1115. 1115.
    >Rainbow again, obviously
  1116. 1116.
    >You take a few steps back, then walk up to the door and knock a few times
  1117. 1117.
    >You hear a stir from within, and then after a moment the door swings open
  1118. 1118.
    >Twilight stands in front of you
  1119. 1119.
"Nona! Perfect timing, we were just talking about you. Come in!"
  1120. 1120.
    >You catch your first look at Applejack and Rainbow Dash as you come in
  1121. 1121.
    >Applejack looks cool and collected
  1122. 1122.
    >Rainbow looks guilty
  1123. 1123.
"Nice to meet you both! I'm Nona. Why... were you talking about me, exactly?"
  1124. 1124.
    >Twilight looks pleasantly over at Rainbow
  1125. 1125.
"Well, I'm heading out of town for a few days and you're going to need somepony to sleep with you, aren't you?"
  1126. 1126.
    >You blush, taken aback
  1127. 1127.
    >These fucking ponies will just go to no end, will they?
  1128. 1128.
    >For Celestia's sake they don't even know you
  1129. 1129.
    >You clear your throat to try and get rid of the lump that seems to be forming there
  1130. 1130.
"Honestly, it's fine! I'll be okay, there's no need to inconvenience anypony on my behalf."
  1131. 1131.
    >Applejack pushes off the wall she was leaning against, and walks over to you
  1132. 1132.
    >She puts a hoof on your shoulder
  1133. 1133.
"Don't be silly, sugarcube. Twi told us all about yer nightmares, it sounds awful. You can come an' stay with me at Sweet Apple Acres tonight. It ain't no trouble at all."
  1134. 1134.
    >She turns to look at Rainbow
  1135. 1135.
"An' Rainbow can take care of ya tomorrow, right Rainbow Dash?"
  1136. 1136.
    >Rainbow sulkily looks over at her, hovering near the far corner of the Library
  1137. 1137.
    "Yeah, yeah, sure thing."
  1138. 1138.
    >Well so much for those flying lessons, maybe you can win her over though
  1139. 1139.
    >You look at each of their faces
  1140. 1140.
    >Twilight concerned, Applejack pitying, Rainbow mostly irritated, but behind that you can see she is sympathetic
  1141. 1141.
    >You don't deserve these ponies
  1142. 1142.
    >You once again find yourself fighting the urge to cry, the emotion threatening to bubble over into tears
  1143. 1143.
"Thank you all... I really don't deserve this."
  1144. 1144.
    >Applejack pats you on the back
  1145. 1145.
    >Ow, she's fucking strong
  1146. 1146.
"That's ridiculous, ya hear? Now come on, it's already dark out an' Ah'd rather be back at home 'afore the chill sets in."
  1147. 1147.
    >You nod, and get ready to pack up your belongings before you remember... you don't have any
  1148. 1148.
"Thanks again Twilight, have a safe trip to Canterlot!"
  1149. 1149.
    >You manage to squeak out
  1150. 1150.
    >The four of you say your goodbyes, Rainbow taking off somewhere (Presumably her little cloud house or whatever) and Twilight continues packing her bags to catch the late train to Canterlot
  1151. 1151.
    >You and Applejack walk through the chill darkness, taking the lengthy road to Sweet Apple Acres
  1152. 1152.
    >Neither of you say anything, finding comfort simply in each other's presence
  1153. 1153.
    >You've been walking for about fifteen minutes or so before Applejack speaks up
  1154. 1154.
    >She doesn't look at you, not that you could tell in the darkness
  1155. 1155.
"Twi really seems ta care about ya, sugarcube."
  1156. 1156.
    >You nod, although you realise she probably can't tell
  1157. 1157.
"She's a good pony... like, really good. Everypony here is, really. I feel so lucky that you've all been so accommodating."
  1158. 1158.
    >Applejack is quiet for a moment
  1159. 1159.
"That she is, a good sort. A trustin' type, ya know?"
  1160. 1160.
    >Where is this going, exactly?
  1161. 1161.
"Just don't do anythin' that would hurt her, ya hear?"
  1162. 1162.
    >You stare at your hooves as you walk
  1163. 1163.
    >You don't know exactly how much Twilight told her, but you get the feeling she kept her word
  1164. 1164.
    >Applejack doesn't seem to trust you, and frankly you don't really blame her
  1165. 1165.
    >You haven't really done anything to earn the trust of these ponies
  1166. 1166.
    >But there are some things you just can't share, even if it hurts
  1167. 1167.
    >How are you supposed to explain that you know the future of this realm, of all these ponies?
  1168. 1168.
    >Even if they believed you that would lead to a whole slew of other problems
  1169. 1169.
    >Aside from the obvious implications of disrupting the future, you're still not even sure exactly where you are in the timeline
  1170. 1170.
    >And if they knew that you knew what was going to happen to them, how would they react?
  1171. 1171.
    >It's just too damn risky
  1172. 1172.
    >And just a few days ago... you wouldn't really have cared
  1173. 1173.
    "...Yeah. I'll try, Applejack."
  1174. 1174.
    >She seems satisfied with this
  1175. 1175.
    >You continue walking in silence until eventually you can see the dim lights of the Apple family acreage up ahead
  1176. 1176.
    >Applejack stops for a moment to admire her ancestral home
  1177. 1177.
"There she is, home sweet home. C'mon, let's get ta bed. Ah'm beat, and we got a lotta chores ta do tomorrow."
  1178. 1178.
    >You look at her doubtfully
  1179. 1179.
    "We?"
  1180. 1180.
    >You can just barely make out her nodding in the darkness
  1181. 1181.
"If yer gonna stay here with us yer gonna have to pull yer own weight, sugarcube."
  1182. 1182.
    >She says bluntly
  1183. 1183.
"But I have a job with the Mayor to get to tomorrow!"
  1184. 1184.
    >She laughs softly, her adorable drawl bringing to mind aged caskets of cider in a barn, rolling fields of orchard trees baking in the sun
  1185. 1185.
"Then Ah suppose we'll just hafta get up extra early, won't we?"
  1186. 1186.
    >You groan aloud, suddenly yearning for sleep more than you thought possible
  1187. 1187.
    >You think you can just make out Applejack's amused grin in the dim moonlight
  1188. 1188.
    >The two of you head onto the property threshold, and sneak in to the house
  1189. 1189.
    >Seems like most of the Apple family are already fast asleep
  1190. 1190.
    >Thank Celestia, you're not sure you could handle that sort of gathering right now
  1191. 1191.
    >Applejack takes you upstairs to her room, and collapses into her bed, gesturing for you to follow
  1192. 1192.
    >You look around the room, admiring the rustic house with it's oaken beams and old family photos
  1193. 1193.
    >Applejack clears her throat impatiently
  1194. 1194.
    >Okay fine fuck
  1195. 1195.
    >You awkwardly hop up onto the bed and snuggle under the covers
  1196. 1196.
    >Can't quite figure out what to do with your wings
  1197. 1197.
    >Applejack snorts and turns over, grabbing one of your wings with her teeth and drawing it over herself underneath the blanket
  1198. 1198.
"Ain't no need to be shy, sugarcube. Let's get some rest."
  1199. 1199.
    >You can feel your cheeks colouring again
  1200. 1200.
    >Whatever
  1201. 1201.
    >You snuggle into her and close your eyes, finding sleep waiting for you like an old friend
  1202. 1202.

  1203. 1203.

  1204. 1204.

  1205. 1205.
    >Or perhaps enemy
  1206. 1206.
    >Your sleep is fitful, restless, and entirely unsatisfying
  1207. 1207.
    >You must have woken up a dozen times over the course of the night, jolted awake by images of coarse ropes wrapping around your legs and neck
  1208. 1208.
    >Wicked laughter and amaranthine eyes haunting you as you woke, and waiting for you just behind the thin veil of sleep
  1209. 1209.
    >For her part, Applejack is very tolerant of your outbursts, stroking your mane and soothing your worries with her adorable accent
  1210. 1210.
    >Even so, you feel bad for imposing
  1211. 1211.
    >She's got a long day ahead of her and even though she wouldn't admit it, you know that this situation is costing her
  1212. 1212.
    >Eventually, the light of day begins to gently glow through the old windows of the barn as night gives way to morning
  1213. 1213.
    >You awaken to find yourself alone in the bed, Applejack nowhere to be seen
  1214. 1214.
    >Guess she decided to have some mercy on you after all
  1215. 1215.
    >You're exhausted, and Applejack must be too
  1216. 1216.
    >You head downstairs to find breakfast on a plate resting on the counter, a small note lying next to it
  1217. 1217.
    >You can immediately recognise Applejack's hand(hoof?)writing as a messy scrawl across the page
  1218. 1218.
    Good morning sugarcube
  1219. 1219.
I know I said you had to help with chores but after you finally settled I didn't have the heart to wake you
  1220. 1220.
Enjoy the food and meet me in the field when you're done
  1221. 1221.
    -AJ
  1222. 1222.
    >You smile, touched by her words and deeds
  1223. 1223.
    >The food smells incredible, and tastes even better
  1224. 1224.
    >A slice of apple pie (of course), cherry tomatoes on the vine and some kind of sweetbread
  1225. 1225.
    >While you eat your mind wanders
  1226. 1226.
    >Twilight seemed like she was in a hurry last night, and hadn't previously given any indication that she would be leaving town
  1227. 1227.
    >You wonder what business was so important that she would drop everything and take off to Canterlot
  1228. 1228.
    >Finishing up the last of the pie, you feel some of your strength returning
  1229. 1229.
    >Still so tired
  1230. 1230.
    >You get up and head outside, finding Applejack already hard at work tilling the fields
  1231. 1231.
    >That plough looks heavy as fuck
  1232. 1232.
    >She sets you up with a few tasks that she thinks you can handle, and after a couple of hours you've worked up a good sweat and your muscles are sore
  1233. 1233.
    >You look up at the sky, trying to gauge what time it is
  1234. 1234.
    >Mayor Mare didn't actually give you a specific time to show up, but it probably isn't wise to keep her waiting
  1235. 1235.
    >Applejack sidles up to you
  1236. 1236.
"It's about nine, sugarcube. You'd better get goin'."
  1237. 1237.
    >She pats you on the back
  1238. 1238.
    >Ow
  1239. 1239.
    "Thanks fer the help."
  1240. 1240.
    >You doubt you actually helped that much but whatever
  1241. 1241.
    "No, thank you."
  1242. 1242.
    >Applejack taps an imaginary watch on her hoof
  1243. 1243.
"Tick tock, sugarcube. Ah'd fly if Ah were you, Mayer Mare is mighty frightful when she's angry."
  1244. 1244.
    >You nod, and before you lose your nerve give her a hug, which she returns after a moment of surprise
  1245. 1245.
    >Flying
  1246. 1246.
    >Now there's an idea you're really not keen to try out again
  1247. 1247.
    >But if Applejack is right you'd better get a move on
  1248. 1248.
    >Picking up a gallop down the road away from the Acreage you spread your wings, feeling that familiar rush of the wind between your feathers
  1249. 1249.
    >Here goes nothing
  1250. 1250.
    >You beat your wings, generating lift and launching yourself into the air, falteringly gaining altitude as you go
  1251. 1251.
    >As nervous as you are, the exhilaration of flying still manages to bring a smile to your face
  1252. 1252.
    >It's not very windy today and you find that this is much easier than it was over the Everfree
  1253. 1253.
    >Even so, you're not looking forward to the landing
  1254. 1254.
    >Although you're not that high off the ground, you can see Ponyville's quaint sprawl up ahead, stretching out before you as the little town wakes up
  1255. 1255.
    >You can make out ponies walking around, greeting each other and preparing for the day ahead
  1256. 1256.
    >And there's the town hall
  1257. 1257.
    >Alright let's land before we get into the town proper, don't want anypony to see you embarrass yourself with this landing
  1258. 1258.
    >You lean back, trying to slow down but instead find yourself climbing higher before you even yourself out again
  1259. 1259.
    >Oh fuck
  1260. 1260.
    >Instead you try leaning forward, and find yourself picking up speed, hurtling towards the ground
  1261. 1261.
    >OH FUCK
  1262. 1262.
    >You level out again, feeling a growing fear in the pit of your stomach
  1263. 1263.
    >Ponyville is getting closer and closer
  1264. 1264.
    >You look around for something soft-ish to crash into, starting to run out of options
  1265. 1265.
    >Your train of thought is interrupted by a familiar voice from right next to you
  1266. 1266.
    "Uhhh, what are you doing?"
  1267. 1267.
    >You look to your left and see Rainbow Dash flying belly-up next to you, her front legs folded behind her head casually
  1268. 1268.
    >How the fuck did she sneak up on you like that?
  1269. 1269.
"Help! Please, I don't know how to land!"
  1270. 1270.
    >You gasp
  1271. 1271.
    >Rainbow looks at you incredulously
  1272. 1272.
    >You look back at her pleadingly
  1273. 1273.
    >She rolls her eyes, flips over and flies above you before grabbing you with her hooves
  1274. 1274.
    >You fight the urge to scream as she take you into a divebomb towards the ground, flaring her wings at the last minute and coming to a stop before dropping you off on the ground and landing next to you
  1275. 1275.
    >You stand shakily at the edge of town, eyes squeezed shut and breathing hard
  1276. 1276.
    >You knew flying was a bad idea
  1277. 1277.
    >Rainbow looks at you with thinly veiled annoyance
  1278. 1278.
"Didn't they teach you how to land in Cloudsdale? That's like, flying 101."
  1279. 1279.
    >You're still trying to catch your breath
  1280. 1280.
    "Didn't... grow up... in Cloudsdale..."
  1281. 1281.
    >Rainbow laughs, her expression amused
  1282. 1282.
"So you don't know how to fly and you thought you'd just wing it?"
  1283. 1283.
    >You open your eyes and glare at her, not appreciating the pun
  1284. 1284.
    >She laughs again, her eyes sparkling
  1285. 1285.
"You're nuts! Well, no need to worry, I'm here to save the day, as usual."
  1286. 1286.
    >She stretches languidly, then noticing your expression punches you softly in the shoulder
  1287. 1287.
"Oh, calm down I'm just kidding!"
  1288. 1288.
    >You sulkily rub your shoulder with your hoof
  1289. 1289.
    >Rainbow beats her wings and takes off, hovering
  1290. 1290.
"Well I should get going. Try not to die while I'm not around, yeah?"
  1291. 1291.
    >You sigh
  1292. 1292.
    >She starts flying away, and you hear her call over her shoulder
  1293. 1293.
"And I'll see you tonight! My place is the big cloud with the rainbow falls."
  1294. 1294.
    >You look after her as she flies away, conflicted
  1295. 1295.
    >You are grateful that she saved you, but she can be such an ass sometimes
  1296. 1296.
    >You're also getting a bit sick of having to rely on all these other ponies to pull you out of the stupid situations you put yourself into
  1297. 1297.
    >Shaking your head, you start walking into town
  1298. 1298.
    >You're greeted by name more than a few times as you walk down Ponyville's streets
  1299. 1299.
    >Damn, that was quick
  1300. 1300.
    >You chalk it up to small towns, everypony knows everypony's else business
  1301. 1301.
    >Still, it's charming. You do your best to say hi to the ponies you've met thus far. It's not hard
  1302. 1302.
    >And they seem so genuinely happy to see you
  1303. 1303.
    >It's not long before you arrive at the town hall, and heading inside you find the receptionist desk empty, just like last time
  1304. 1304.
    >Whoops, guess that's supposed to be your job
  1305. 1305.
    >You knock on Mayor Mare's office, and hear
  1306. 1306.
    "Yes, yes, come in!"
  1307. 1307.
    >From the other side
  1308. 1308.
    >You walk in to find it's much as you left it yesterday
  1309. 1309.
    >A little tidier but still an absolute shitshow
  1310. 1310.
    >Mayor Mare sits at her desk, scribbling notes on some paper and contributing to the ever growing stacks of papers around the room
  1311. 1311.
    >This is gonna be a long fucking day
  1312. 1312.
    >She looks up at you
  1313. 1313.
"Yes? Oh, it's you. Great timing, can you get started on sorting these?"
  1314. 1314.
    >You nod, mentally preparing yourself
  1315. 1315.
"Oh, and Spike is around here somewhere. Twilight lent him to me until we can get all this under control. Keep an eye out for him if you get a minute?"
  1316. 1316.
    >You sigh. Sure, might as fucking well
  1317. 1317.
    >Despite your resignation about dealing with this you can't help but enjoy it on some level
  1318. 1318.
    >There is something satisfying about bringing balance to disorder, order to chaos
  1319. 1319.
    >Celestia help you you're turning into bookhorse
  1320. 1320.
    >You spend the next several hours sorting through and filing documents
  1321. 1321.
    >Yawn.jpg
  1322. 1322.
    >You've actually got a lot done, surprisingly
  1323. 1323.
    >It's beneath a particularly dense and messy pile of documents that you find a little purple and green dragon, tucked away in the corner of Mayor Mare's office and fast asleep
  1324. 1324.
    >That little shit
  1325. 1325.
    >He's snoring softly, his chest rising and falling
  1326. 1326.
    >Time to put a stop to that
  1327. 1327.
    >You give him a little shake and he jolts awake
  1328. 1328.
    "Whu-wha..? I-I wasn't sleeping!"
  1329. 1329.
    >He rubs his eyes
  1330. 1330.
"Just... just had my eyes closed, I swear."
  1331. 1331.
    >You look down at him, his eyes still bleary as he struggles to wake up
  1332. 1332.
    >You can't help but feel a tinge of jealousy at how easily and deeply he was sleeping
  1333. 1333.
"You must be Spike. I'm Nona, Mayor Mare's new secretary."
  1334. 1334.
    >He nods sleepily
  1335. 1335.
"Y-yeah... Twilight mentioned you, I think. I'm helping Mayor Mare too, for now... And looking after the Library until Twilight's back."
  1336. 1336.
    >He mutters
  1337. 1337.
    >You roll your eyes
  1338. 1338.
    >Yeah, great job Spike, you're killing it
  1339. 1339.
"Since you're so well rested, I'm sure you shouldn't have any problem sorting these."
  1340. 1340.
    >You nudge a stack of papers over to him with your muzzle, and can't help but relish the dread with which he regards them
  1341. 1341.
    "Yeah... sure."
  1342. 1342.
    >He grumbles
  1343. 1343.
    >With Spike's help you're actually able to just about sort though the entire office, and only at the cost of several hours of your life that you'll never get back
  1344. 1344.
    >He's actually pretty helpful with the proper management
  1345. 1345.
    >By the time you're finishing up for the day the sun is getting low, the glow gently seeping through the office windows in the town hall
  1346. 1346.
    >You're pretty tired, and as you're about to pack it in for the day Mayor Mare stops you before you can leave
  1347. 1347.
    >She looks pretty exhilarated, you're not sure how this damn vixen has so much energy
  1348. 1348.
    >She holds out a small pouch in her hoof, beaming the whole time
  1349. 1349.
"Your first paycheck! Normally I'd hold off until the end of the week, but you've worked a miracle here and I wanted to show my gratitude."
  1350. 1350.
    >She seems genuinely impressed by your hard work
  1351. 1351.
    >You feel that lump forming in your throat, and stuff it down as usual
  1352. 1352.
"Thank you Mayor... I'm just glad I could help."
  1353. 1353.
    >And to your own surprise you genuinely are
  1354. 1354.
    >It feels good to help out after how generously you've been treated by everypony you've met
  1355. 1355.
    >You leave the office with a spring in your step, despite your exhaustion
  1356. 1356.
    >Spike walks with you as you leave, yawning loudly
  1357. 1357.
"Good work in there Spike, I don't think we could have done all that without you."
  1358. 1358.
    >You say, looking down at him
  1359. 1359.
    >He shrugs, blushing slightly
  1360. 1360.
    "Aw, it was nothing."
  1361. 1361.
    >You pat him on the back with your hoof
  1362. 1362.
"Say, do you know how to get to Rainbow Dash's house? I'm staying with her tonight."
  1363. 1363.
    >He nods
  1364. 1364.
"Yeah, Twilight told me about all that. It must be awful what you've been through, Nona!"
  1365. 1365.
    >You shrug, thinking about all you've experienced in this place
  1366. 1366.
    >It's not all been so bad
  1367. 1367.
"We all have our burdens to bear, Spike. I'll be okay."
  1368. 1368.
    >You smile at him
  1369. 1369.
    >You thought it would feel forced, or rueful, but it's completely natural
  1370. 1370.
    >He looks up at you, his little eyes trying to decipher you further, before he clears his throat and looks ahead
  1371. 1371.
"So... you head past the Library, take a right, and then walk through the field until you get to a huge willow tree. Then turn left and follow the spiky-looking rocks and you're there!"
  1372. 1372.
    >Seems simple enough
  1373. 1373.
    >You're almost at the Library at this point, the setting sun framing the tips of the branches like the tree of life symbol from...
  1374. 1374.
    >What mythology was it from? It's just at the edge of your cognizance but you can't quite grasp it. You should know this...
  1375. 1375.
    >Spike interrupts your thoughts
  1376. 1376.
"Do you want me to come with you, Nona? It'll be dark out soon."
  1377. 1377.
    >You shake your head, the little dragon looks like he's about to tip over
  1378. 1378.
"I'll be fine, Spike. Go ahead and get some sleep."
  1379. 1379.
    >Almost on cue he yawns
  1380. 1380.
    >You say your goodbyes and he heads into the Library, while you continue walking downtown
  1381. 1381.
    >And you find yourself heading not towards Rainbow's place, but the hospital
  1382. 1382.
    >You just... want to get a checkup, that's all
  1383. 1383.
    >Make sure everything's still in good shape, maybe see if you can't get this bandage off
  1384. 1384.
    >Yeah, no other reason
  1385. 1385.
    >It's almost dark by the time you reach the place, the now familiar peaked roofs standing proudly against the sky, half painted with sunlight and the other shrouded in darkness
  1386. 1386.
    >Walking through the doors, you're greeted with the same near-empty waiting room, the same too-tall receptionist's desk
  1387. 1387.
    >You walk up to the desk, and after a moment the unicorn receptionist looks up at you
  1388. 1388.
    "Can I help you, dear?"
  1389. 1389.
    >You shuffle nervously
  1390. 1390.
"Uhm... is B- Doctor Cross in today?"
  1391. 1391.
    >She shakes her head
  1392. 1392.
"I'm sorry, but no. He went home early today."
  1393. 1393.
    >You heart falls
  1394. 1394.
"Oh... okay, well would you let him know Nona stopped in to see him?"
  1395. 1395.
    >You can see an amused expression pass over her face briefly
  1396. 1396.
    >Guess you're not the first mare to try this shit
  1397. 1397.
    "Of course."
  1398. 1398.
    >You turn to leave, but before you can get to the door you hear her voice again
  1399. 1399.
"Oh wait, I've got something for you here!"
  1400. 1400.
    >You turn back to see her scribbling a note on a small piece of paper, before she levitates it over to you
  1401. 1401.
"I just remembered; Doctor Cross said you might come by, and to give you this if you did."
  1402. 1402.
    >You take the note with your hoof, trying to decipher her chicken scratchings
  1403. 1403.
    >It's... an address
  1404. 1404.
    >You feel heat creeping into your face almost immediately
  1405. 1405.
    "Uh, right, thanks!"
  1406. 1406.
    >You dash out of there before you can embarrass yourself further, trying to ignore the knowing look in the receptionist's eyes
  1407. 1407.
    >Walking down Ponyville's dimly-lit streets you find yourself holding the note in your mouth, turning over the possibilities in your head
  1408. 1408.
    >Are you actually thinking about doing this? You told yourself you weren't going to bother, that you wouldn't be here long enough to form... attachments
  1409. 1409.
    >Then what are you doing?
  1410. 1410.
    >His amber eyes flit through your mind, and you replay the moment you shared, however briefly, in the doctor's office yesterday
  1411. 1411.
    >You feel weak in the knees just thinking about it
  1412. 1412.
    >That scene, and a few more possibilities subject only to your imagination bounce around your head as you walk, and you realise you're biting your lip
  1413. 1413.
    >Fucking stop that Nona
  1414. 1414.
    >You shake your head to clear your thoughts, looking around
  1415. 1415.
    >You hadn't really been walking with any clear destination in mind, and yet here you fucking are
  1416. 1416.
    >The little paper slips from your mouth as you look up at the address in question
  1417. 1417.
    >It's a little shotgun-style house on the corner of the street only a few blocks from the hospital
  1418. 1418.
    >Modest, but the carvings in the wood suggest a subtle wealth
  1419. 1419.
    >You sigh, cursing yourself for being so weak-willed
  1420. 1420.
    >Well you're here, you might as well follow through
  1421. 1421.
    >You walk up the steps and knock a few times on the rich oaken door, making a satisfying thud with your hoof
  1422. 1422.
    >It only takes a few moments for the door to open, but it feels like hours to you
  1423. 1423.
    >And there he is, standing in the door with those beautiful eyes, like golden wheat-fields in the summer
  1424. 1424.
    "Nona! Is everything alright?"
  1425. 1425.
    >You shuffle uncomfortably, drawing intricate designs on the porch with your hoof
  1426. 1426.
"Yeah, I um... just wanted to get a checkup. Maybe get these bandages off, you know?"
  1427. 1427.
    >Idiot, what are you doing?
  1428. 1428.
    >He nods, the slight quirk on the corner of his mouth telling you all you need to know
  1429. 1429.
"A-actually, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come here, I didn't want to bother you at home."
  1430. 1430.
    >You turn to leave, but before you can walk away he speaks up
  1431. 1431.
    "Nona."
  1432. 1432.
    >You look back at him, and he steps back, leaving space for you to walk through the door
  1433. 1433.
"I told you my doors were open any time, and I meant it."
  1434. 1434.
    >Celestia help you
  1435. 1435.
    >You brush past him as you walk in sheepishly, catching a trace of his scent
  1436. 1436.
    >He smells like sweetgrass and flowers, honey and smoke
  1437. 1437.
    >Your whole body feels hot
  1438. 1438.
    >He shows you to the living room, and you look around to distract yourself from how you're feeling
  1439. 1439.
    >It's a cute place, fairly simple and surprisingly austere
  1440. 1440.
    >Guess he doesn't really spend a lot of time at home, other than sleeping
  1441. 1441.
    >He sits you down on the couch, and then disappears down the hall and into one of the back rooms
  1442. 1442.
    >You kick your feet nervously as you sit, trying to think of what to say to him
  1443. 1443.
"Your... place is really nice, Blue. Have you had it... long?"
  1444. 1444.
    >Ugh just stop Nona
  1445. 1445.
    >He reappears from down the hall with a stethoscope and a small doctors bag, smiling
  1446. 1446.
"Thank you, Nona. No, it was my grandmother's, and she gave it to me last year when she passed."
  1447. 1447.
    >You feel your ears droop down
  1448. 1448.
    "Oh... I'm sorry."
  1449. 1449.
    >He shakes his head, levitating the end of the stethoscope up a few inches away from your chest
  1450. 1450.
    "May I?"
  1451. 1451.
    >You nod, not making eye contact
  1452. 1452.
    >He presses the stethoscope to your chest, and you gasp a little
  1453. 1453.
    >He laughs softly
  1454. 1454.
"Sorry, I should have warned you it's a little cold. And don't worry about it, she was a wonderful mare and lived a long and fulfilling life. I've made peace with it."
  1455. 1455.
    >You struggle to sit still as he continues examining you
  1456. 1456.
"So... does anypony else live with you? This place just seems... so empty."
  1457. 1457.
    >He looks up at you, those amber eyes arresting your attention immediately
  1458. 1458.
    "No, it's just me."
  1459. 1459.
    >You can't look away
  1460. 1460.
    "Sounds... lonely."
  1461. 1461.
    >You breathe
  1462. 1462.
    >He keeps staring into your eyes, and you realise that once again your muzzles are only inches apart
  1463. 1463.
    >Your brain seems to have stopped working
  1464. 1464.
    "It has it's little charms."
  1465. 1465.
    >ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh
  1466. 1466.
    >He leans forward, his lips only a hair's breadth from yours
  1467. 1467.
    >You're on a precipice, poised to jump and it's scary and exhilarating and addicting all at once
  1468. 1468.
    >His breath gently ruffles the soft fur on your face, and you realise you want this more than anything in your life
  1469. 1469.
    >You take the plunge, your lips meet and it feels like there are jolts of electricity surging through your whole body
  1470. 1470.
    >Your blush is volcanic
  1471. 1471.
    >The kiss couldn't have lasted more than a few seconds, but it feels like a lifetime to you
  1472. 1472.
    >He pulls back, and a thin strand of saliva connects your mouths together
  1473. 1473.
    >You look at him through half-lidded eyes, trying to force your mind to work through this haze
  1474. 1474.
    >He looks back at you in similar fashion, an adorable blush colouring his cheeks too
  1475. 1475.
    >Before either of you can say anything, you pounce on top of him, your lips meet again and you both crash to the floor, passion lighting up your nerves like fireworks
  1476. 1476.
    >You don't know what you're doing with this body, and you don't fucking care
  1477. 1477.
    >You let your instincts take over
  1478. 1478.
    >And you don't regret it for a second
  1479. 1479.

  1480. 1480.
    ***
  1481. 1481.

  1482. 1482.
    >An hour later (or several, maybe, your thoughts were anywhere but on the time), you're lying on the bed next to Blue Cross
  1483. 1483.
    >Your whole body aches, in all the right ways
  1484. 1484.
    >Your forays had taken you from the living room, to the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom...
  1485. 1485.
    >The whole house basically
  1486. 1486.
    >You're staring at the ceiling as Blue snores softly next to you, still a bit shocked at your own behaviour
  1487. 1487.
    >And you want to say you feel ashamed or guilty for indulging in this, but the truth is... you're contented
  1488. 1488.
    >Happy, even
  1489. 1489.
    >You look over at Blue, his form handsome and masculine even as he sleeps
  1490. 1490.
    >...Guess you are into that, after all
  1491. 1491.
    >Sleep...
  1492. 1492.
    >Oh shit, you're supposed to stay with Rainbow tonight
  1493. 1493.
    >She's probably wondering where the fuck you are right now
  1494. 1494.
    >You carefully roll out of bed, walking to the doorway before you stop and glance at Blue again as he stirs slightly
  1495. 1495.
    >A smile creeps onto your face as you replay the events of the night in your mind
  1496. 1496.
    >You briefly consider blowing off your meeting with Rainbow before thoughts of your nightmares creep back into your head...
  1497. 1497.
    >No, you'd rather not subject him to that, much less have to explain yourself
  1498. 1498.
    >You slip out the doorway, down the hall and out into the crisp night air before you can second-guess yourself
  1499. 1499.
    >Maybe you should leave a note...
  1500. 1500.
    >No, you'll have to explain later when- if, you get a chance
  1501. 1501.
    >You start briskly trotting down the street, making your way through the quaint little town until you arrive at the Library, its windows dark and silent
  1502. 1502.
    >You look up at the library mournfully, the streets around you hushed and empty
  1503. 1503.
    >You always preferred it to the castle or whatever that comes next, and you can't help but wonder how much time it has left
  1504. 1504.
    >Spike's instructions come into your mind, unbidden
  1505. 1505.
    "Right, here, I guess."
  1506. 1506.
    >You follow his directions, struggling slightly to see in the oppressive darkness
  1507. 1507.
    >Outside of town, you have only the light of the moon to guide your way
  1508. 1508.
    >It glows coldly from above, casting a pale light that sharply defines the shadows of every bush, tree, and rock on the way to Rainbow's place
  1509. 1509.
    >You look up at it, admiring the beauty and loneliness of the night
  1510. 1510.
    >It's times like these you feel like you're the only soul in Equestria, and there's something indescribably comfy about that
  1511. 1511.
    >You close your eyes and inhale, taking in the sharp, chilly air
  1512. 1512.
    >It's wonderful
  1513. 1513.
    >No wonder Luna was so pissed about everypony sleeping through this
  1514. 1514.
    >You realise you've arrived
  1515. 1515.
    >Dashie's house floats above you, a grand and imposing cloud structure reminiscent of Mount Olympus, or how you always imagined god's throne as a kid
  1516. 1516.
    >Memories that seem so, so far away in this place
  1517. 1517.
    >Now, how to get up there? You're not about to try flying again right now, or maybe ever for that matter
  1518. 1518.
"Uhm... Hello? Rainbow, are you up there?"
  1519. 1519.
    >Silence
  1520. 1520.
    >You raise your voice
  1521. 1521.
    "RAINBOW!"
  1522. 1522.
    >After a moment she pokes her head over the edge of the cloud, looking sleepy
  1523. 1523.
    >Guess she didn't bother waiting for you
  1524. 1524.
    >Fair enough, honestly, you've been... preoccupied
  1525. 1525.
"Well, look who decided to show up. Where exactly have you been?"
  1526. 1526.
    >You shrug, not sure how to explain yourself
  1527. 1527.
    "I um... got lost. Sorry."
  1528. 1528.
    >She looks at you like you're an idiot
  1529. 1529.
"You... got lost? In Ponyville? Nona, there are like ten buildings here."
  1530. 1530.
    >Drat, she's got you there
  1531. 1531.
    >You shrug again, trying not to look guilty
  1532. 1532.
    >She stares at you suspiciously
  1533. 1533.
    "You're... absolutely glowing, Nona."
  1534. 1534.
    >Her eyes widen as your cheeks colour
  1535. 1535.
    >Damnit stop giving yourself away like that!
  1536. 1536.
"You were getting busy with somepony, weren't you?"
  1537. 1537.
    >You don't answer
  1538. 1538.
    >She falls onto her back, laughing so hard she snorts
  1539. 1539.
"Celestia, it's written all over your face!"
  1540. 1540.
    >You look away in embarrassment
  1541. 1541.
"Shut up, Rainbow! You are such a jerk."
  1542. 1542.
    >She lies down on the cloud like a gossip girl, her front hooves supporting her cheeks as she looks down at you
  1543. 1543.
"So, who was the lucky stallion?"
  1544. 1544.
"None of your business! Can we just go to sleep?"
  1545. 1545.
"Was it Bulk Biceps? I bet it was Bulk, wasn't it?"
  1546. 1546.
    >You snort angrily
  1547. 1547.
    "No, it was n-"
  1548. 1548.
    >You stop yourself, frustrated
  1549. 1549.
    >She almost got you there
  1550. 1550.
    "Rainbow stop it! It's late."
  1551. 1551.
    >She rolls her eyes
  1552. 1552.
    "Fine, fine. Come on up."
  1553. 1553.
    >You stare at her, pleadingly
  1554. 1554.
    >She sighs
  1555. 1555.
    "Right, right, I forgot."
  1556. 1556.
    >She swoops down and picks you up, then flies up and drops you briskly on the cloud just outside her house
  1557. 1557.
    >The surface of the cloud is weird... It's spongy, but also doesn't have a ton of give to it
  1558. 1558.
    >You thought you would have had a harder time balancing on it
  1559. 1559.
    >She leads you up into the house, through the main hall and into her bedroom
  1560. 1560.
    >Despite yourself, you're captivated by the cloud house, it's pretty cool
  1561. 1561.
    >Somewhere between a college athlete's room and the throne room of Zeus
  1562. 1562.
    >...Whoever that is
  1563. 1563.
    >You tune back into whatever Rainbow was saying
  1564. 1564.
"...and right here is where you can sleep. I put it together earlier tonight, when you were SUPPOSED to be here."
  1565. 1565.
    >You look at the cloud bed doubtfully
  1566. 1566.
    >It looks very comfy, and you're sure it is but...
  1567. 1567.
    >She notices the look you're giving it
  1568. 1568.
"Oh, what now? Don't tell me I'm supposed to sleep WITH you with you?"
  1569. 1569.
    >You look at her helplessly
  1570. 1570.
    >Her cheeks colour a bit
  1571. 1571.
    >Aha! Your turn
  1572. 1572.
"Relax Rainbow, I'm not into mares."
  1573. 1573.
    >It doesn't even feel weird to say out loud, to your mild surprise
  1574. 1574.
    >She snorts, cheeks reddening further
  1575. 1575.
"Whatever! I'm only doing this because Twilight asked me to, so don't get any funny ideas."
  1576. 1576.
    >You nod, beaming
  1577. 1577.
    "Don't worry, I don't bite... much."
  1578. 1578.
    >You can almost hear her grinding her teeth
  1579. 1579.
"Just get into bed you doofus."
  1580. 1580.
    >You saunter over and flop down next to her, using your wings to pull her in close
  1581. 1581.
    "H-hey, what gives?"
  1582. 1582.
    >You look at her innocently
  1583. 1583.
    "What? It's cold."
  1584. 1584.
    >You can't suppress a grin as she grumbles
  1585. 1585.
    >Despite her reservations she relaxes into you before long, and together you drift off into sweet oblivion
  1586. 1586.

  1587. 1587.
    ***
  1588. 1588.

  1589. 1589.
    >You awaken, floating, in a cold void, silent and empty
  1590. 1590.
    >Dark mists roil around you, obscuring your vision and filling your nose and mouth with a bitter, oily, smoky film
  1591. 1591.
    >You cough, trying to clear it from your lungs and throat, and bring a hoof over your mouth
  1592. 1592.
    >A tendril of mist snakes around your front leg, materialising into a rope as it coils tightly around your wrist and digs in painfully
  1593. 1593.
    >No, no, please not this again
  1594. 1594.
    >You bite it, and try to use your other hoof to pry it loose, but before you can find purchase your other three legs are restricted in similar fashion
  1595. 1595.
    >You cry out as they all pull taut, stretching off into the infinite void and leaving you dangling helplessly, unable to move
  1596. 1596.
    >Amethyst eyes open all around you, hundreds, thousand of them leering cruelly at you as the ropes pull tighter
  1597. 1597.
"Please, just leave me alone! Have mercy!"
  1598. 1598.
    >You scream
  1599. 1599.
    >The ropes stop, leaving your shoulders and hips straining
  1600. 1600.
    "Mercy?"
  1601. 1601.
    >A familiar voice echoes through the darkness
  1602. 1602.
    >Your voice
  1603. 1603.
    >Not your voice now, but the one you had on... Earth
  1604. 1604.
"Do you really think you deserve mercy?"
  1605. 1605.
    >Images of your past life flash before your eyes, mixed with scenes of Equestria
  1606. 1606.
    >The past, and the future all pouring into your mind until you feel like your head will explode
  1607. 1607.
    >You struggle against the ropes, to no avail, tears streaming down your face
  1608. 1608.
    "I'm... I'm TRYING!"
  1609. 1609.
    >The scenes pouring into your head stop, and you see something else...
  1610. 1610.
    >Twilight, lying on the ground in a battered heap
  1611. 1611.
    >And next to her, twisted metal fragments scattered around
  1612. 1612.
    >Some kind of timepiece?
  1613. 1613.
    >The vision ends as abruptly as it started
  1614. 1614.
    "That's not good enough."
  1615. 1615.
    >The ropes start pulling again, the pain becoming unbearable as your vision blurs
  1616. 1616.
    >You dimly think about how ironic it is that traditionally with this form of torture it would be horses that were affixed to the end of each of these ropes
  1617. 1617.
    >Damn, you really are turning into bookhorse
  1618. 1618.
    >A piercing voice splits through the vision, like a trumpet's call
  1619. 1619.
    "ENOUGH!"
  1620. 1620.
    >Dark wings wrap around you, and the ropes disintegrate like mist exposed to the sun
  1621. 1621.
    >The eyes all go wide, then snap shut as the scene around you fades
  1622. 1622.
    >You're left in the middle of a clearing in a moonlit forest, a huge pair of midnight-blue wings obstructing your view
  1623. 1623.
    >You turn around and stare in awe
  1624. 1624.
    >Princess Luna kneels with one leg in front of you, her wings stretched protectively around you
  1625. 1625.
    >She stands to her full height as she draws her wings back and looks down at you with a mixture of kindness and pity
  1626. 1626.
    >You realise you're staring, and before you forget your manners you bow your head
  1627. 1627.
    "Thank you, Princess."
  1628. 1628.
    "No thanks is necessary, child."
  1629. 1629.
    >You look up at her, tears still in your eyes
  1630. 1630.
"Is that it? Is it gone?"
  1631. 1631.
    >She shakes her head solemnly
  1632. 1632.
"The spectre that haunts you is not so easily banished."
  1633. 1633.
    >You close your eyes, exhausted and defeated
  1634. 1634.
    >She steps closer, and kneels down to get closer to your height
  1635. 1635.
"Fear not, child, for this is my domain, and no harm shall befall you under my watch."
  1636. 1636.
    >You open your eyes again, unsure of how to even begin conveying your gratitude
  1637. 1637.
    >But there is no need, you can see her understanding in her eyes, an unspoken message that tells you it's going to be okay
  1638. 1638.
    "Rest, now."
  1639. 1639.
    >She leans down and gently kisses you on the forehead, and the scene fades away
  1640. 1640.

  1641. 1641.

  1642. 1642.

  1643. 1643.
    >You awaken, slowly, next to Rainbow, still snuggled firmly into your feathered embrace
  1644. 1644.
    >For the first time since you came to Equestria you actually feel well-rested
  1645. 1645.
    >Thanks Luna
  1646. 1646.
    >Your mind inevitably turns to your dreams, and of course your seemingly irrational fear of meeting either of the Princesses
  1647. 1647.
    >Princess Luna had saved you, and you can't help but feel guilty for having been worried
  1648. 1648.
    >Your forehead still tingles slightly where she kissed you
  1649. 1649.
    >Although it seems your fear of meeting Luna was unfounded, your apprehension about meeting Celestia remains
  1650. 1650.
    >You have this feeling that it's unavoidable, and that it won't be as pleasant as your little soiree with the Lunar Princess
  1651. 1651.
    >What did she call that thing, a spectre?
  1652. 1652.
    >What IS it? The witch that sent you here, or something else? And why does it haunt you so far into your journey here?
  1653. 1653.
    >It's like the dreams have been getting worse the longer you've been here
  1654. 1654.
    >You know that you've changed since you got here, and that's something that you've been avoiding thinking about
  1655. 1655.
    >There's been this nagging feeling in the back of your mind, like you're losing something, some part of yourself
  1656. 1656.
    >But damnit, you're starting to like who you've become, you like this body and these ponies and this place
  1657. 1657.
    >But you have to go back
  1658. 1658.
    >You're a stranger here, a traveller from a distant world and you don't belong
  1659. 1659.
    >That's what you tell yourself, anyway
  1660. 1660.
    >You shake your head
  1661. 1661.
    >This is too much self-reflection for this early in the morning, and you have a job to get to
  1662. 1662.
    >Time to piss off Rainbow while you have the chance
  1663. 1663.
    >You lean over and give Rainbow a kiss on the cheek, watching as her eyes open sleepily, looking directly into yours
  1664. 1664.
    "Last night was wonderful, Rainbow."
  1665. 1665.
    >You murmur in your most sultry voice, eyes half-lidded
  1666. 1666.
    >She leaps straight into the air, like a spooked cat, her feathers ruffled
  1667. 1667.
    >Lmao so worth it
  1668. 1668.
"What- What is wrong with you?"
  1669. 1669.
    >She shouts, glaring at you and blushing furiously
  1670. 1670.
    >You give her your signature innocent look
  1671. 1671.
"What? I slept great, and I appreciate you letting me stay with you."
  1672. 1672.
    >She stares at you suspiciously
  1673. 1673.
"Y-yeah. Well, don't get used to it."
  1674. 1674.
    >You nod, beaming
  1675. 1675.
"Can you take me to the ground? I have to get to the Mayor's Office."
  1676. 1676.
    >She rolls her eyes again
  1677. 1677.
    "Yeah, fine."
  1678. 1678.
    >She drops you off on the ground just below her house, and starts to fly away
  1679. 1679.
    "Hey, Rainbow!"
  1680. 1680.
    >She stops, and looks back at you, wings beating
  1681. 1681.
"Thanks. Seriously, I do appreciate it."
  1682. 1682.
    >She blushes again
  1683. 1683.
"Yeah, whatever... No problem. Don't get all sentimental on me, okay?"
  1684. 1684.
    >You nod, and blow her a kiss
  1685. 1685.
    "Ugh, you're the worst!"
  1686. 1686.
    >She fucks off immediately, a streak of rainbow blurring off towards Ponyville
  1687. 1687.
    >Good shit
  1688. 1688.
    >Alright, down to business. Fucking with Rainbow Dash aside, you do actually have a job to get to
  1689. 1689.
    >You start trotting towards Ponyville, enjoying the feeling of the wind in your fur and how natural the gait feels
  1690. 1690.
    >If only you could get the hang of flying, or more accurately, landing
  1691. 1691.
    >It doesn't take you long to get to the office, and you're a little chuffed to find it in pretty good shape
  1692. 1692.
    >Most of the documents have been sorted and stored properly at this point, and there's only a few small stacks left to take care of
  1693. 1693.
    >Thank Celestia
  1694. 1694.
    >Spike is there already, listening to Mayor Mare as you enter the building
  1695. 1695.
"-ot much more, Spike. Just these last few piles and you're a free dragon. Thank you for the help, this place would be a mess without you and-"
  1696. 1696.
    >Mayor Mare looks up at you from across her desk
  1697. 1697.
"Nona! Good to see you. I was just telling Spike that his job here is almost done."
  1698. 1698.
    >You nod at Spike, pleased to see the little dragon looks well-rested this time
  1699. 1699.
"My pleasure, mayor. Couldn't have done it without Spike, though."
  1700. 1700.
    >Spike looks excited at your arrival
  1701. 1701.
"Hey! I have something for you."
  1702. 1702.
    >You look at him curiously, as you approach
  1703. 1703.
    >He holds out a scroll, sealed with an emblem that you recognise...
  1704. 1704.
    >Twilight's sigil, her cutie mark
  1705. 1705.
    >Your heart sinks, and images of her broken body on the ground assail your mind as your dream comes back to you
  1706. 1706.
"Twilight? What is it, is she okay?"
  1707. 1707.
    >He looks somewhat confused
  1708. 1708.
"Um, yeah? Why wouldn't she be? I haven't read it."
  1709. 1709.
    >You shake your head
  1710. 1710.
    >Of course, you're jumping to conclusions
  1711. 1711.
    >That spectre or whatever was probably just trying to mess with you
  1712. 1712.
"Nothing, she just ran off to Canterlot and... I don't know. I just get worried easily."
  1713. 1713.
    >Spike looks at you, unconvinced
  1714. 1714.
    "Let's have a look."
  1715. 1715.
    >You mumble
  1716. 1716.
    >Rolling open the scroll you can see an even, well-practiced flowing script
  1717. 1717.
    >Yeah that's definitely bookhorse
  1718. 1718.
    Nona
  1719. 1719.
I think I have a way to get you back home! Come to Canterlot as soon as possible, I'll explain everything when you get here!
  1720. 1720.
    -Twilight
  1721. 1721.
    >You stare at the page, re-reading it over and over again
  1722. 1722.
    >Home...
  1723. 1723.
    >A mixture of excitement, apprehension, and... a tinge of regret run through your heart
  1724. 1724.
    >Some part of you wishes you had a little more time here...
  1725. 1725.
    >But no, it's time to go
  1726. 1726.
    >You realise you've been rereading the same script for a few minutes now, and Spike is snapping his fingers in front of your face
  1727. 1727.
    "-ona, Equestria to Nona. Hello?"
  1728. 1728.
    >You snap out of it
  1729. 1729.
    "Whu-wha? Oh, sorry!"
  1730. 1730.
    >Spike and Mayor Mare are both staring at you curiously
  1731. 1731.
    >He speaks up first
  1732. 1732.
    "So, what did it say?"
  1733. 1733.
"Twilight wants me to come to Canterlot as soon as possible."
  1734. 1734.
    >You look sheepishly at the mayor
  1735. 1735.
"I know it's a bit early for this, but is there any chance I could get a few days off?"
  1736. 1736.
    >You give her your best puppy dog eyes
  1737. 1737.
    >Mayor Mare looks at you for a second, her expression stern but kind
  1738. 1738.
    >You can see the shift in her eyes as she considers you
  1739. 1739.
    >Yes! It worked
  1740. 1740.
    "...Alright."
  1741. 1741.
    >She checks her watch
  1742. 1742.
"The morning train to Canterlot will have already left, but there's an overnight one at nine O'clock tonight."
  1743. 1743.
    >She looks back up at you
  1744. 1744.
"If you can finish sorting the last of these documents, I suppose I can hold the fort on my own for a few more days."
  1745. 1745.
    >You beam at her
  1746. 1746.
    "Thank you, mayor!"
  1747. 1747.
    >You can't help but feel a twinge of guilt
  1748. 1748.
    >If Twilight has actually found a way to send you home, you won't be coming back at all
  1749. 1749.
    >You push the feeling down
  1750. 1750.
    >How are you supposed to explain that?
  1751. 1751.
    >You turn to Spike
  1752. 1752.
"Spike, can you tell Twilight that I'll be there tomorrow morning?"
  1753. 1753.
    >He looks at you with a cheeky grin
  1754. 1754.
    "Why not tell her yourself?"
  1755. 1755.
    >He produces a sheet of paper and a quill
  1756. 1756.
    >Don't want to know where he was hiding that, but okay
  1757. 1757.
    >You write a quick missive back to Twilight, and with a surprisingly huge burp and a blast of greenish fire, the little dragon sends it off
  1758. 1758.
    "Sent!"
  1759. 1759.
    >He turns back to the mayor
  1760. 1760.
"I can help finish this up too, mayor!"
  1761. 1761.
    >Mayor Mare nods sagely
  1762. 1762.
"Thank you Spike. After the work you two put in yesterday, I'm sure you'll have it done in no time."
  1763. 1763.
    >Together you and Spike finish filing the few remaining piles of documents in only a couple hours, and Mayor Mare sends him home
  1764. 1764.
    >You spend the rest of the workday future-proofing the filing system and making sure the mayor won't have a hard time while you're gone
  1765. 1765.
    >Even if you're not coming back, you're going to leave this place in better shape than you found it, damnit
  1766. 1766.
    >You also spend some time familiarising yourself with the roll of secretary, which is something that comes to you quite easily although you don't actually have much experience in that particular area
  1767. 1767.
    >Kind of pointless, you figure, but you do your best to help out as much as you can, while you still can
  1768. 1768.
    >Before you know it, the light is fast fading and it's time to get going
  1769. 1769.
    >You have a few hours left in Ponyville before the train leaves, and your thoughts inevitably turn to Blue Cross
  1770. 1770.
    >Conflicting emotions swell inside your chest
  1771. 1771.
    >Still, you knew what you were doing when you saw him last night, and you know you shouldn't, but...
  1772. 1772.
    >You have to see him again before you go
  1773. 1773.
    >It's stupid and pointless, and it's just going to hurt but you can't stop yourself
  1774. 1774.
    >Trotting through the mellow streets of the little town, it's getting less busy as everypony winds down for the day
  1775. 1775.
    >You arrive at Blue Cross' door after just a few minutes, and walking up on to the porch you raise a hoof to knock
  1776. 1776.
    >You stand there, unmoving
  1777. 1777.
    >Fuck, maybe this is a bad idea
  1778. 1778.
    >You close your eyes, mustering your courage, and rap the door gently with your hoof
  1779. 1779.
    >After a moment the door opens, and Blue stands in front of you
  1780. 1780.
    >He looks relieved and happy to see you
  1781. 1781.
    >Damnit, those beautiful eyes make your heart ache
  1782. 1782.
"Good evening, Nona. I missed you last night... I was worried I had done something to scare you off."
  1783. 1783.
    >You smile nervously
  1784. 1784.
    >If anything it was the exact opposite, you have to fight the urge to pounce on top of him right now
  1785. 1785.
    "No, of course not, I..."
  1786. 1786.
    >You trail off
  1787. 1787.
    >He steps back, and gestures inside
  1788. 1788.
    "Please, come in."
  1789. 1789.
    >You close your eyes, steeling yourself, and shake your head
  1790. 1790.
    "No, I can't, I'm sorry."
  1791. 1791.
    >You open your eyes to see he looks a little hurt, but mostly confused
  1792. 1792.
    >Celestia, why does this have to be so hard?
  1793. 1793.
"I'm... going away. And I... I won't be coming back."
  1794. 1794.
    >His eyes widen a bit, and he steps forward
  1795. 1795.
"But... Was it something I said?"
  1796. 1796.
    >Fuck! Fuck.
  1797. 1797.
    >You rush forward and hug him, trying not to cry
  1798. 1798.
    >He returns your embrace hesitantly, clearly confused
  1799. 1799.
    >Gently pushing you back a bit, he holds you while he looks into your eyes
  1800. 1800.
    "Nona, what's going on?"
  1801. 1801.
    >You look up at him, finding comfort in his hooves despite what you know you have to do
  1802. 1802.
    "I'm sorry. I can't explain, I just..."
  1803. 1803.
    >You choke up
  1804. 1804.
    >He looks down at you sadly, the look of a pony who knows he's already lost
  1805. 1805.
    >Before you lose your nerve, you lean forward and kiss him passionately
  1806. 1806.
    >A kiss that he leans into, his muscular frame holding you up as you melt into him
  1807. 1807.
    >You wish it could go on forever, but you know if you don't act now you won't be able to make yourself leave
  1808. 1808.
    >You tear yourself away from him, and turn away on your heels, galloping down the street towards the Library, choking back tears as you run
  1809. 1809.

    >A few hours later, you sit at the Ponyville train station, feeling distraught and empty
  1813. 1813.
    >You feel like a bit of an emotional trainwreck
  1814. 1814.
    >You miss Blue already, and part of you just wants to throw this whole plan of yours away and run back to him
  1815. 1815.
    >But you can't
  1816. 1816.
    >You also can't stop thinking about the dream you had last night, specifically the part involving Twilight lying motionless on the ground
  1817. 1817.
    >It had been so fleeting, and you were overwhelmed at the time by various other visions being forced into your mind
  1818. 1818.
    >The rest had largely faded from your memory, but that bit had remained
  1819. 1819.
    >What were those metal fragments lying around her?
  1820. 1820.
    >Did either of these things have any significance at all?
  1821. 1821.
    >Applejack's words echo in your mind
  1822. 1822.
    >"Don't do anythin' that would hurt her, ya hear?"
  1823. 1823.
    "I won't."
  1824. 1824.
    >You mutter under your breath
  1825. 1825.
    >You had spent the last few hours after running off from Blue's house sneaking around Ponyville, leaving small pouches of Bits at the homes of your benefactors
  1826. 1826.
    >Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and of course Twilight
  1827. 1827.
    >It wasn't much, but it was all that you had
  1828. 1828.
    >You had only left yourself enough to buy the train ticket to Canterlot, and you were dead broke again
  1829. 1829.
    >It occurs to you that you hadn't seen Fluttershy the whole time you were here
  1830. 1830.
    >Wonder where she is?
  1831. 1831.
    >Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the train's whistle blowing
  1832. 1832.
    >Time to go
  1833. 1833.
    >You hop off the bench and present your ticket to the inspector before being allowed entry to the train
  1834. 1834.
    >There's almost nopony else here, only a handful of sleepy looking souls at this late hour
  1835. 1835.
    >You sit down in an empty seat and gaze out the window at the cozy little homes of Ponyville, the lanternlights from within slowly starting to go out as ponies go to sleep
  1836. 1836.
    >You're not sure what exactly Twilight found, but if it was big enough to call you to Canterlot, you're certain this is the last time you'll see Ponyville
  1837. 1837.
    >Your heart aches at the thought of leaving, something that would have seemed impossible to you just a week ago
  1838. 1838.
    >You can scarcely remember the time when all you wanted was to go back home, and now things are all just so goddamn complicated
  1839. 1839.
    >You yawn, and your thoughts turn to sleep
  1840. 1840.
    >Something you had thought about already, dreading the necessity
  1841. 1841.
    >Luna had saved you from your nightmares last night, but you had no idea if you would still be under her protection tonight
  1842. 1842.
    >And it's not like you had a way of defending yourself against whatever was tormenting you
  1843. 1843.
    >You briefly consider staying awake for the entire overnight train ride, but another yawn tells you that seems improbable
  1844. 1844.
    >With a hiss, the train's brakes release and it lurches forward, slowly gaining momentum as it trundles out of the station
  1845. 1845.
    >You watch Ponyville disappear into the darkness as the train accelerates into the night
  1846. 1846.
    >Turning your attention away from the window, you hop down from the bench seat and stark walking towards the back of the train, looking for an empty sleeper car
  1847. 1847.
    >No sense in subjecting whatever other poor ponies are trying to grab some shuteye to whatever waits for you beyond your waking hours
  1848. 1848.
    >Luckily the second car you check is empty, and you lie down on the bed closest to the back
  1849. 1849.
    >Staring at the ceiling of the car, you can feel the gentle vibration of the train running up the legs of the bed, slowly lulling you already
  1850. 1850.
    >Might as well fucking get this over with
  1851. 1851.
    >You close your eyes, and within minutes sleep claims you

    >Your dreams take an unusual turn tonight
  1856. 1856.
    >You find yourself wandering through some kind of abandoned stone structure, long halls twisting into the distance
  1857. 1857.
    >The air is stale, and you have some kind of light with you but it casts only a small glow, illuminating a circle a few feet from you
  1858. 1858.
    >It seems as though there's something in the darkness just beyond the edge of the glow
  1859. 1859.
    >You make your way down the hall, quickly, desperately trying to find a way out
  1860. 1860.
    >The glow slowly, but steadily shrinks, the darkness closing in around you
  1861. 1861.
    >You break into a run, praying that you'll be able to get out of here before your light source dies
  1862. 1862.
    >It's only a foot from you now
  1863. 1863.

    >Your own light flickers, and fades
  1865. 1865.
    >Thousands of amethyst eyes open in the shadows around you
  1866. 1866.
    >Before you can even scream, the scene shifts
  1867. 1867.
    >You open your eyes, and you're in a library
  1868. 1868.
    >Not the Library that Twilight lives in, this one is much more... grand
  1869. 1869.
    >Vaulted ceilings soar overhead, and the far stone walls look to be finely chiselled
  1870. 1870.
    >Looking down, you see a familiar sight
  1871. 1871.
    >Twilight sits on the floor of the Library, reading intently
  1872. 1872.
    >She's surrounded by piles of books, and she looks a bit haggard, like she's been at this for a while
  1873. 1873.
    >You approach her
  1874. 1874.
    "...Twilight?"
  1875. 1875.
    >She doesn't look up, just keeps reading
  1876. 1876.
    >You get a bit closer, and reach out to put a hoof on her shoulder
  1877. 1877.
    >She dissolves like mist, and the scene shifts again
  1878. 1878.
    >You're on top of some kind of bluff, the wind whipping at you so hard you feel like you might be blown away
  1879. 1879.
    >It's dark out, cloudy and with no moon in sight, the dark clouds race across the sky above you
  1880. 1880.
    >There's some kind of shape up ahead of you, you can't quite make out what it is
  1881. 1881.
    >Rain starts to fall as you approach, first a couple of drops, and then a downpour, then a deluge
  1882. 1882.
    >You fight your way through the wind and rain, approaching the shape
  1883. 1883.
    >You know what it is, and you don't want to look but you have to
  1884. 1884.
    >Twilight lies on the ground in a crumpled heap, unmoving
  1885. 1885.
    >You rush towards her, but the wind surges and blows you back, throwing you off the edge of what turns out not to be a bluff, but a cliff
  1886. 1886.
    >You hurtle towards the ground, trying to beat your wings, but the air seems to slip through them like sand through an hourglass
  1887. 1887.

    >The train must have been climbing the mountain most of the night, and you must be close to your destination
  1904. 1904.
    >The train feels level, and you can feel the deceleration as the tracks start to curve
  1905. 1905.
    >You switch sides of the train, and look out
  1906. 1906.
    >There it is, Canterlot
  1907. 1907.
    >A great stone castle-town built into the side of the mountain, the royal palace rising into the sky like a beacon
  1908. 1908.
    >You sit down and gaze dreamily out the window as the train pulls closer and continues slowing down
  1909. 1909.
    >A few minutes later and you're at the station, having disembarked
  1910. 1910.
    >Alright, now to find Twilight
  1911. 1911.
    >Your dream comes back to you
  1912. 1912.
    >She must be in the Canterlot Library
  1913. 1913.
    >You wander through the cobblestone streets, taking in the sights
  1914. 1914.
    >Canterlot is very different from what you're used to
  1915. 1915.
    >It's a lot busier, but still nothing like what you're used to back on Earth
  1916. 1916.
    >The ponies are still friendly enough, although these ones seem a little more poncy than the ones you met in Ponyville
  1917. 1917.
    >Even so, they greet you as you walk through town with a polite smile or a small head nod
  1918. 1918.
    >Walking in the general direction of the palace, figuring the library can't be far from there
  1919. 1919.
    >You start seeing more and more of the gilded palace guards as you approach, and you're reminded that this is Celestia's throne
  1920. 1920.
    >A thought you don't exactly relish
  1921. 1921.
    >You spy a large domed building a few blocks away, and you imagine those vaulted ceilings you saw in your dream would be right at home there
  1922. 1922.
    >As you walk towards it you can't help but enjoy the impressive marble and stone architecture of Canterlot
  1923. 1923.
    >It's somewhere between a medieval European castle and some kind of wizard's sanctuary
  1924. 1924.
    >There are grand fountains every other street, and even the most humble buildings seem like they've been carved, engraved, and chiseled to perfection
  1925. 1925.
    >You stop to admire one of the fountains, some unknown armoured Pegasus standing regally on a marble column, with water jetting from where his wings should be
  1926. 1926.
    >Damn. You wish you had more time to explore this place...
  1927. 1927.
    >Your thoughts wander as you consider the statue
  1928. 1928.
    >Maybe you could just spend a bit longer here...
  1929. 1929.
    >Sure, you don't know how long you've been gone in the 'real world'
  1930. 1930.
    >But if that's the case, then what does it matter?
  1931. 1931.
    >You might have to contend with that witch when you get back... you're not even sure how to begin approaching that situation
  1932. 1932.
    >Then again... Even wizards probably aren't immune to a case of acute lead poisoning
  1933. 1933.
    >You startle yourself with that thought, the idea of killing somepony, er, someone... it's repulsive to you
  1934. 1934.
    >Another thought worms its way into your head
  1935. 1935.
    >When did you start using somepony instead of someone?
  1936. 1936.
    "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
  1937. 1937.
    >A regal voice from behind you startles you from your thoughts
  1938. 1938.
    >Oh no
  1939. 1939.
    >You close your eyes, not wanting to acknowledge the voice
  1940. 1940.
    >You were so close to getting out, you could have avoided this if only you'd stayed focused!
  1941. 1941.
    >But some part of you knows that this meeting was inevitable
  1942. 1942.
    >And there's no point in running from the inevitable
  1943. 1943.
    >You turn around, slowly, and open your eyes
  1944. 1944.
    >You're in a void, not dissimilar to the one you found yourself in when Princess Luna had saved you
  1945. 1945.
    >But there's no choking mist, no amaranthine eyes, and no darkness
  1946. 1946.
    >Just white, as far as the eye can see
  1947. 1947.
    >And standing in front of you is Princess Celestia, a radiant sun behind her framing her like a massive halo
  1948. 1948.
    >She's absolutely blinding, and the light shining upon you feels like it's burning
  1949. 1949.
    >You cower, trying to shield yourself with your wings as her radiance overwhelms you
  1950. 1950.
    >Through the gaps in your wingtips, however, you catch a glimpse of her eyes
  1951. 1951.
    >And you're immediately enthralled
  1952. 1952.
    >She stares at you, through you, into you
  1953. 1953.
    >And you can tell that she knows you, truly
  1954. 1954.
    >Your whole existence is laid bare before her, your flaws and mistakes and insecurities
  1955. 1955.
    >Your avarice, your pride, your callousness and cruelty being burned away, vaporised like dust in the wind
  1956. 1956.
    >But there is good there too; kindness and generosity, and love, for this place and its inhabitants
  1957. 1957.
    >The radiance dims, and then fades
  1958. 1958.
    >You drop your wings, and they hang limply at your sides
  1959. 1959.
    >Your head hangs low, tears in your eyes as you confront the truth of yourself and your existence
  1960. 1960.
    >And it occurs to you that that was what you were afraid of
  1961. 1961.
    >Not Celestia, but what she would show you about yourself
  1962. 1962.
    >You feel a hoof under your chin, and it tilts your head back to look her in the eyes once more
  1963. 1963.
    >Eyes that are kind, wise, and immensely ancient
  1964. 1964.
    >And there's a sadness there too, the sadness of a being that's seen much tragedy, enough nearly to match the innumerable triumphs
  1965. 1965.
"Hello, Traveller. You're a long way from home, aren't you?"
  1966. 1966.
    >You stare at her in awe, the sorrow in her eyes enough to make you want to weep
  1967. 1967.
    >There's nothing you can say that she doesn't already know
  1968. 1968.
    "How did you know?"
  1969. 1969.
    >You murmer
  1970. 1970.
    >She looks down at you
  1971. 1971.
"I perceived it, the moment you arrived in this land. I have been watching you since, and when you arrived in my city I decided to get the measure of you myself."
  1972. 1972.
    >You realise with some amount of fear that she was monitoring you to make sure you weren't a threat
  1973. 1973.
    >You come from a place much more coarse, violent, and ugly than this
  1974. 1974.
    >That she could, and would, have destroyed you if she found you lacking
  1975. 1975.
    >You can see all you need to know in the look she gives you
  1976. 1976.
    >Your thoughts turn to your purpose in Canterlot
  1977. 1977.
    >She knows what you will say, but she's waiting patiently for you to say it
  1978. 1978.
    >Confronted with the reality of going back, you almost don't want to ask
  1979. 1979.
    >But you force the words out anyway
  1980. 1980.
    "Can you send me home?"
  1981. 1981.
    >Celestia smiles kindly, and nods
  1982. 1982.
"I can, Anon. But it will not be quite so simple as that."
  1983. 1983.
    >You look at her, concerned
  1984. 1984.
"Speak with Twilight, at the Canterlot Library. She will explain everything you need to know."
  1985. 1985.
    >There's something else, something she's not telling you
  1986. 1986.
    >But you're not about to interrogate the Alicorn who almost just destroyed you with a thought
  1987. 1987.
    >There's a curious look in her eyes
  1988. 1988.
"She thinks very highly of you, you know."
  1989. 1989.
    >You look down, more embarrassed than guilty
  1990. 1990.
    >Kind of a nice feeling for a change
  1991. 1991.
    "And what do you think?"
  1992. 1992.
    >You mumble
  1993. 1993.
    >She considers you for a moment
  1994. 1994.
"That you have potential. If only you live up to it."
  1995. 1995.
    >The white void around you starts growing brighter once more, until it's so bright you can't see
  1996. 1996.
    >And you open your eyes to find yourself in Canterlot again, facing the Princess of Sunlight still
  1997. 1997.
    >She's flanked by two of her royal guards, both of them regarding you with calm but watchful eyes
  1998. 1998.
    >Celestia looks up at the Pegasus statue admiringly
  1999. 1999.
"That's Commander Hurricane, one of the founders of Equestria. A great pony, whose deeds will be remembered long after him."
  2000. 2000.
    >She gives you a meaningful look
  2001. 2001.
"We should all strive for such greatness."
  2002. 2002.
    >Without another word she strides off, her guards in lockstep slightly behind her
  2003. 2003.
    >You turn to regard the statue, considering everything Celestia had told you
  2004. 2004.
    >She had said she could send you back, so why are you so... disappointed?
  2005. 2005.
    >It must just be that complication she mentioned
  2006. 2006.
    >You tear your eyes away from the statue
  2007. 2007.
    >Time to go find Twilight
  2008. 2008.

  2009. 2009.
