Expiry: Never

  1. 1.
This short story is mainly rooted in my other story, "Where Wallflowers Bloom." I've tried to write this in a way that reading the other one isn't required, but certain events and pairings will make more sense if the reader is familiar with it. I hope you enjoy it.
  2. 2.

  3. 3.

  4. 4.
    >The cold winter wind hits you as you walk through the snowy landscape that's become of the school grounds
  5. 5.
    >The snowstorm that passed by a few days ago would usually mean time off for most students
  6. 6.
    >Not for the gardening club
  7. 7.
    >And specially not for it's club president
  8. 8.
    >You are Wallflower Blush, gardener extraordinaire
  9. 9.
    >And for the last couple of days you've had extra work literally piling up on you
  10. 10.
    >Though your fellow club-mates have helped, you were not expecting the sheer amount of snow that would gather up
  11. 11.
    >As such, you've spent most of your time off from school making sure your garden isn't suffocated
  12. 12.
    >To your friend's dismay to say the least
  13. 13.
    >Two of them were asking if you'd be doing anything in particular today
  14. 14.
    >As if they didn't know the answer already
  15. 15.
    >Even if this snowstorm hadn't happened, you doubt you'd be doing anything special today
  16. 16.
    >You aren't particularly fond of Valentine's Day to say the least
  17. 17.
    >The shenanigans surrounding the memory stone ensured that you spent a couple of them completely and utterly alone
  18. 18.
    >And the times you went out of your way to seek someone out
  19. 19.
    >Yeah, love hasn't been kind to you
  20. 20.
    >Perhaps this year could've been different
  21. 21.
    >The fact that people started to notice you again could've meant that this was the year to try
  22. 22.
    >But you weren't willing to tempt fate
  23. 23.
    >Even if there was someone you were looking forward to spending the day with
  24. 24.
    >Well, there is
  25. 25.
    >But you don't know if they feel the same way, yet at least
  26. 26.
    >The shovel's spade digs into the last of the snow under your feet
  27. 27.
    >Looking at your garden again, it seems like your work here really was over yesterday
  28. 28.
    >The branches won't collapse under the snow's weight
  29. 29.
    >The flower's have enough breathing room to avoid suffocation
  30. 30.
    >Nothing leftover to fix
  31. 31.
    >So why did you came back
  32. 32.
    >Letting out a sigh, you walk over to the bench in the garden
  33. 33.
    >Sitting down, you pull out your phone and check the time
  34. 34.
    >13:09
  35. 35.
    >Still plenty of time to kill before the day is over
  36. 36.
    >You peek over the bushes, and are afforded a glance at the streets of Canterlot
  37. 37.
    >Couples walking hand in hand, heading to who-knows-where to enjoy a day together
  38. 38.
    >You spy one small, gray-skinned blonde girl skipping along next to an absolute hunk of a man who's mere muscles are enough to warm him up
  39. 39.
    >An aquamarine-skinned girl dropping onto the dirty snow to make angels, and a girl with fuchsia stripes along her blue hair shaking her head in mild amusement
  40. 40.
    >You see in them that same feeling you've been afraid of feeling again
  41. 41.
    >Love
  42. 42.
    >Not denial, or a way to cope with life, not whatever you would've chased after if you tried to ask someone out for the sake of having a date this day
  43. 43.
    >But a real, unquestionable bond
  44. 44.
    >Your heart feels heavy in your chest as you think to the two closest people to you
  45. 45.
    >In one, a past flame
  46. 46.
    >In another, a devoted companion
  47. 47.
    >You knew very well how you felt before you decided to use the memory stone
  48. 48.
    >Not a day goes by that you don't cuss yourself out for it
  49. 49.
    >Throwing all that love away, and you're suffering for it now
  50. 50.
    >Maybe it's warranted you're spending the day alone
  51. 51.
    >Your phone buzzes in your hand
  52. 52.
    >A message from a girl who never once left your side, until you pushed her away
  53. 53.
    > "You're at the garden right?? Come back in! You look like you're freezing!" The text is adorned by an emoji of a deep-blue face with icicles under it and a snowflake next to it
  54. 54.
    >You turn to look at the window of the gardening club
  55. 55.
    >Though it's foggy, you can discern the raspberry-colored hair belonging to her even from here
  56. 56.
    >You feel the wind pick up, feeling a tinge of pain on your face for a moment
  57. 57.
    >Even though you're bundled up, you still feel the sheer cold ushering you to go back inside
  58. 58.
    >You stand up and begin heading back
  59. 59.
    >And stop in your tracks to look at the source of your love troubles
  60. 60.
    >The memory stone sits on a pedestal in the middle of the garden, covered by a thin layer of snow
  61. 61.
    >You should've shattered this thing so long ago
  62. 62.
    >And yet you haven't
  63. 63.
    >Maybe to remind you of your faults
  64. 64.
    >Maybe as a keepsake of who you'll never be again
  65. 65.
    >Or maybe just in case you ever fall in your self-destructive spiral again, and ease up their minds the night when you're finally gone
  66. 66.
    > "Hey Wallflower! Didn't you see Rose's text? Shit, it's freezing out here.."
  67. 67.
    >Your thoughts are interrupted by the voice of the guy you were sure you'd never hug again
  68. 68.
    >You turn around to face him, and feel your face aching from the cold once more as you do
  69. 69.
    > "Wallflower? Are you feeling alright?" He adds, concern clear in his voice
  70. 70.
    >But why wouldn't you be
  71. 71.
    >Is it really that apparent what you're contemplating?
  72. 72.
    >You blink, your eyes sting
  73. 73.
    >Your tears have been freezing at this temperature
  74. 74.

  75. 75.
"Yeah, I was just trying to finish up with the garden. I thought I'd make sure that it was cleared up before the ice formed" You lie through your teeth
  76. 76.
    >Your words can't hide the sadness in your voice, and he picks up on it easily
  77. 77.
    >He takes off his scarf and wraps it around your neck
  78. 78.
    > "Even so, it's far too cold to be out here. Let's go back inside, alright?" He adds, offering you his mitten-covered hand
  79. 79.
    >You fix the scarf to cover your mouth and nose, warming up your freezing face
  80. 80.
    >It smells like him
  81. 81.
    >You take his hand and together walk towards the gardening club's classroom
  82. 82.
    >He can't see the smile on your face, nor the faint sadness with which you carry it
  83. 83.
    >He opens the door for you to walk in
  84. 84.
    >And as you step inside, you're pulled into a warm embrace
  85. 85.
    >By the sheer difference in temperature in the room compared to the outdoors
  86. 86.
    >And by a cheery redhead wrapping her arms around you in a hug
  87. 87.
    > "Gosh, Wally you're absolutely freezing!" She says, warm to the touch
  88. 88.
    >Her body heat like a blazing fire comfortably encompassing you
  89. 89.
    > "Why did you felt the need to go out in this weather? Anon, didn't we finished yesterday?"
  90. 90.
    >The raven-haired boy struggles to close the door as a gust of wind barges in
  91. 91.
    > "Yeah, we made sure it was clear specifically so we'd have the day free today." He says, slamming the door shut with his whole body
  92. 92.
    >Today
  93. 93.
    >This again
  94. 94.
    >You pull down on the scarf to speak up
  95. 95.
"Guys, I told you I didn't want to go out today." You complain, backing off from Rose's hug
  96. 96.
    > "And why not? Cause it's valentine's?" Rose says as she sits on a nearby stool close to a radiator working overtime
  97. 97.
"Yes, just so. I don't feel comfortable with all those couples out there, even if they ignore me"
  98. 98.
    > "Well, when you said you didn't want to go out, we didn't thought you meant not hanging out at all" Anon chimes in, warming his hands close to that same radiator
  99. 99.
"I just, I mean" Your words die in your throat
  100. 100.
    >It's not that you don't want to hang out with them
  101. 101.
    >You want to spend every waking second with them
  102. 102.
    >You want to hold Anon the way you used to
  103. 103.
    >You want to talk hours with Roseluck over meaningless things
  104. 104.
    >But today in particular
  105. 105.
    >Today fucking sucks
  106. 106.
    >You look at the two of them, warming up
  107. 107.
    >And you're standing here, still freezing by your lonesome
  108. 108.
    >You let out a frustrated sigh, feeling your eyes watering up properly
  109. 109.
    > "Wallflower, we want to be here. With you" Anon's voice once again breaks you out of your trance
  110. 110.
    > "Yeah, don't you remember? We searched high and low for you. We're not going anywhere again!" Rose's cheery voice reassures you of her statement
  111. 111.
    >You take a tentative step forward
  112. 112.
    >Your body is freezing
  113. 113.
    >You don't want to lose them again
  114. 114.
    >Your heart aches so desperately for what you lost
  115. 115.
    >Maybe too strongly
  116. 116.
    >But you can't let it stop you from being with them
  117. 117.
    >With tears in your eyes you stumble towards them
  118. 118.
    >You're about to fall and just weep your worries out
  119. 119.
    >Only to be held up by the people you've hurt the most
  120. 120.
    >Anon to your left, Rose to your right
  121. 121.
    >They share a look full of worry
  122. 122.
    >Roseluck gives you a gentle smile as she hugs your side
  123. 123.
    >Anon wraps his arms around you both and rests his head on top of yours
  124. 124.
    >Your tears fall, and your body would as well were it not for them
  125. 125.
    >You cry silently in their embrace, like you did when they first found you
  126. 126.
    >Your arms lay limp to your sides
  127. 127.
    >You don't return the hug, you simply weep for everything you've lost
  128. 128.
    >And for not recognizing that they want to find it again
  129. 129.
"I love you guys" You whisper, your weak raspy voice breaking as you continue
  130. 130.
"I've loved you so much, I want to- I love-" You're full on bawling now
  131. 131.
    >You feel a kiss on your forehead
  132. 132.
    >And at the same time, a kiss on your right cheek
  133. 133.
    >There's no more room for words
  134. 134.
    >They simply hold you as you cry your heart out
  135. 135.
    >You spend a couple of minutes trying to control your breathing once again
  136. 136.
    >And failing over and over
  137. 137.
    >Until you're finally able to breathe without sobbing
  138. 138.
    >You gently pull back from the hug, sniffling
  139. 139.
    >Anon offers you some napkins that you then blow your nose on
  140. 140.
    >Rose wipes some of your snot off her and Anon's coats
  141. 141.
    >Wait, napkins?
  142. 142.
    >You wipe your eyes and look to your side in confusion
  143. 143.
    >Looking at the place where Anon grabbed the napkins from
  144. 144.
    >A few bags from your local burger joint lay on a nearby table
  145. 145.
    >Hidden behind Anon and Roseluck's schoolbag
  146. 146.
    > "We thought that, maybe you'd like to eat somewhere you were more comfortable in?" Rose suggests
  147. 147.
    >The doubt in her voice making it clear they weren't sure if it'd work
  148. 148.
    >You feel like ugly crying again
  149. 149.
    > "And um, we've got something for you." Anon moves to his backpack, and opens it
  150. 150.
    >Roseluck doesn't miss a beat to follow him and finds something in her own bag
  151. 151.
    > "Can you turn around for a second? Please?" Though Anon is the one speaking up, you feel Rose's pleading eyes echoing his notion
  152. 152.
    >You do so, your hands fidgeting with the scarf as thoughts rush through your head faster than you can understand them
  153. 153.
    >Though if you were to describe them, it'd probably be something like
  154. 154.
    >Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh
  155. 155.
    > "Alright, you can turn around now" Rose's voice is a mixture of eagerness and doubt
  156. 156.
    >You close your eyes
  157. 157.
    >And turn around to face your friends
  158. 158.
    >Your heart beating so fast you're worried you'll have a heart attack the moment you open your eyes
  159. 159.
    >You're oh so scared of doing so
  160. 160.
    >But eventually, you take a small peak
  161. 161.
    >And then your eyes shoot open
  162. 162.
    >Anon holds a poorly wrapped small box of chocolates in front of him
  163. 163.
    >While Roseluck holds a more neatly wrapped one out for you to grab
  164. 164.
    > "Happy Valentine's Day, Wallflower"
  165. 165.
    > "Happy Valentine's Day, Wally!"
