  1. >You’re flying high above, this time you’re over Canterlot.
  2. >It’s a little chilly, but you don’t mind.
  3. >You control a slow descent down towards the ground.
  4. >As you approach, you can see many ponies below.
  5. >However, a lone figure catches your eye.
  6. >It’s Anon.
  7. >Most of the ponies are going about their day, some see you, but don’t pay attention.
  8. >They’re all faceless blurs, but not Anon.
  9. >He is watching you and waving.
  10. >Landing nearby in a park, you can see Anon approaching you quickly.
  11. >You wave to him and smile.
  12. “Hey Anon!”
  13. >Before he reaches you, a sea of faceless ponies start to come from no where.
  14. >They quickly crowd you and him, pushing each other away.
  15. >He tries to call out, but no words come out.
  16. “Anon!”
  17. >The crowd tries to push you along, but you launch into the air.
  18. >You can see him being pushed further and further away.
  19. “NO!”
  20. >Mustering all your strength, you shoot forth.
  21. >Just as you reach him you run into a barrier and awaken.
  22. >You’re face first on the floor and let out a small groan.
  23. >Slowly, you pick yourself up.
  24. “...T-that’s never happened before...”
  25. >Pulling the blankets off of you, you remake your bed.
  26. “...I’m always alone in my dreams...So that’s a first...”
  27. >Your muzzle hurts a little, and you head off to do your morning routine.
  28. >All the while, your thoughts are distracting you.
  29. >It’s getting harder to keep steady on your warm up.
  30. “...Why can’t I f-focus..?”
  31. >You already know why, there is no point in asking that.
  32. >Setting down your pencil, you look over at the drawing you showed Anon yesterday.
  33. “...It’s because I opened up to him...Is-isn’t it..?”
  34. >Of course that’s the case, but that doesn’t stop you from thinking about it.
  35. >This past week has been the closest you’ve been to another.
  36. >Probably the closest you’ve been to another ever in your life.
  37. “...D-doesn’t matter...I-I need to focus...”
  38.
  39. >You try to shove aside the thoughts for now and focus on warming up before Anon shows up.
  40. >It’s difficult, but you manage to make a half decent attempt.
  41. >Looking it over, you try to reassure yourself.
  42. “...It’s just temporary...I can get through this...”
  43. >Picking back up your pencil, you free draw.
  44. >It’s not something you do often, but it helps to get thoughts out of your head.
  45. >They’re barely doodles in your opinion, nothing like the sketches you usually do.
  46. >As you finish nearly covering the page, you pause to look them over.
  47. “...Mostly of me...And Anon...”
  48. >Are you in love with him?
  49. >No, can’t be, can it?
  50. >You’ve barely known him a week, so it must be something else, right?
  51. >…
  52. >Yeah, it must be what having a friend is really like.
  53. >You haven’t had one since you were a filly.
  54. >Then again, you never felt like this around another pony.
  55. >Letting out a small groan of frustration, you step away from the canvas.
  56. “...I can’t...I can’t let this get to me...”
  57. >Your thoughts are just messing with you.
  58. >Stupid filly, what makes you think that he sees you that way?
  59. >No pony just falls in love like that.
  60. >Rather than dwell on these thoughts further, you go grab another cup of coffee.
  61. “...J-just need to concentrate is all...”
  62. >Taking a sip, the black nectar refuels your focus again.
  63. >You remove the doodles and crumple them up.
  64. “...Don-don’t focus on tho-those...Just f-focus on the sk-ketch...”
  65. >As you toss them into a pile near the trash, you set up a fresh sheet.
  66. >Opting to sketch your coffee cup, you get to work.
  67. >It comes together fairly well, and in the end, it resembles the real thing.
  68. >Or least an acceptable version of it.
  69. >Your eyes dart between the two and can’t really find errors.
  70. “...Fair enough...”
  71. >Setting the picture on the small pile, you start another drawing.
  72. >This time of Canterlot.
  73.
  74. >The mountain slowly forms, and the adjourning hills eventually as well.
  75. >However, the hard part approaches fast.
  76. >The city itself.
  77. >Can’t make it too big, nor too small.
  78. >In truth, you’ve never been there, but the pictures you’ve seen spoke to you enough.
  79. >It forms easily, mostly because of basic shapes.
  80. >You erase and add in the harder details as you go along.
  81. >Like the landscape or the various buildings throughout the city.
  82. >You don’t stop there though, you add in clouds and the sun itself.
  83. >Even add in a few ponies that fly about.
  84. >Finishing up the drawing, you pull back and look at your work.
  85. >As you examine it, you can’t find imperfections for once.
  86. “...It c-can’t be...Can it..?”
  87. >An actually good picture, just like the one of Anon the other day.
  88. >A small bit of glee fills you.
  89. “...I-I did it...Something actually g-good...”
  90. >Picking the picture, you set in with the other small stack of pictures.
  91. >Looking around for something else to sketch, you see the clock.
  92. “...I’ll draw that...The sh-shifting hands should give me a challenge...”
  93. >Without missing a beat, you let your skills guide your pencil.
  94. >It’s a simple shape sure, but that doesn’t matter.
  95. >Adding the last touches, namely shading, takes a bit more time than you thought.
  96. >You look it over at the clock again, but notice something.
  97. “...Anon is late...Again...”
  98. >You remember what he said yesterday though.
  99. “...I have no reason to worry...Wo-wouldn’t surprise me if Pinkie is bothering him...”
  100. >There were numerous times in the past she would beg you to come to a party.
  101. >You’ve tried it before, and each time, you left.
  102. >You don’t enjoy parties like she does, nor do you enjoy being around large groups.
  103. >Quick flashes of memories hit you.
  104. >Like when foals made fun of your appearance or your drawings.
  105. >You shake your head to forget.
  106. “...Where is Anon..?”
  107.
  108. >Shit shit shit shit.
  109. >You’re Anon and you’re late.
  110. >Setting everything up with those two took way more time than necessary.
  111. >Didn’t help that you had to agree to answer more of Twilight’s insane questions about earth to get her to come over to Cherry’s.
  112. >Then you and Cherry had to convince her of the potential this project has.
  113. >She wasn’t impressed, and kept pointing out the various flaws.
  114. >You mostly ignored the technobabble, you know butt fuck nothing of how magic works.
  115. >In the end they started to discuss spells, namely enchantments.
  116. >However, as the two talked it out, you noticed the time and booked it.
  117. >Running like a fucking Kenyan now.
  118. >Your burning lungs are a reminder to never skip cardio, seriously.
  119. >As you finally reach Addie’s home, you’re breathing hard.
  120. “...Fucks...Sake...”
  121. >Note to self, go on more runs.
  122. >Slowly you catch your breath and head to the front door to knock.
  123. >Like many times before, you can hear Addie undoing the multiple locks.
  124. >Still not sure why she does that, need to find out.
  125. >The door slowly opens and you see Addie, though she looks a little rough.
  126. “Sorry I’m late, had to answer some questions Twilight had.”
  127. >Not entirely a lie, but can’t ruin that surprise still.
  128. >She nods slowly and turns around.
  129. >As you go inside and close the door, you see she is standing at her easel.
  130. >Her eyes are darting around again and she is quiet.
  131. >Odd, she must’ve forgotten what she said yesterday, you’ll ask anyways.
  132. “Do you want to talk or draw?”
  133. >Addie mumbles something out and shifts a little.
  134. “What was that? I couldn’t hear you.”
  135. >She sighs and picks up a book before heading over to the couch.
  136. >Talking it is.
  137. >You join her and note how she is lightly shaking.
  138. >Strange, she wasn’t like this the other day.
  139. “So what’s this book about?”
  140.
  141. >”...Um...It-it’s on Canterlot...”
  142. >Never been there, though you’ve seen it from a distance.
  143. >She opens the book up and shows you the various pictures.
  144. >Most are illustrations, and a few are very low quality photographs.
  145. >Not surprising, Equestria is really far behind in technology.
  146. >Then again, they have magic, so that tech is kinda moot.
  147. >”...I was...I flew overhead there in my dreams...”
  148. “Oh, sounds nice. Never flown to be honest.”
  149. >She nods and blinks slowly.
  150. >Her eyes shift to yours and she continues.
  151. >”...Y-you were there too...”
  152. >Unexpected, but okay.
  153. “Cool, what was I doing there?”
  154. >”...You waved to me...So I went to greet you...But a swarm of faceless p-ponies pulled you away...”
  155. >While you don’t know much about dreams, that’s probably a sign or something.
  156. “Was it a nightmare then?”
  157. >Addie shakes her head.
  158. >”...N-no...I was flying normally...Only woke up because...I rolled off the bed and landed face flat...onto the floor...”
  159. >You cringe a little, face plants are never good.
  160. >She is quiet now, and it starts to become an awkward silence.
  161. >You’re about to break it when she gets up and heads over to one of her stacks of pictures.
  162. >Addie grabs one and brings it over to you.
  163. “Wow.”
  164. >”...It’s Canterlot...”
  165. >Yeah, you can see that.
  166. >Usually can see it on a good day, but like this?
  167. >This is something else.
  168. “It’s really good Addie, did you draw this earlier?”
  169. >She nods and rubs one leg over the other.
  170. >”...Sometimes...I draw an image from the top of my head...”
  171. >Something stands out though in the image, and you point to it.
  172. “That’s you, isn’t it?”
  173. >Her eyebrows furrow and her eyes follow your finger to the lone pegasus with the most detail.
  174. >Slowly, her eyes widen.
  175. >”...I-I don’t...When did I do that..?”
  176. “Must’ve been subconscious. Heard of that happening before with artists.”
  177.
  178. >Her voice quivers and she starts to shake again.
  179. >”...Have I...Do I do that in all my sketches..?”
  180. >Thankfully, you’ve seen enough of them to calm her fears.
  181. “From what pictures you have shown me, no.”
  182. >Your words seem to calm her down slowly.
  183. “This isn’t really a bad thing Addie.”
  184. >”...How...How do you figure..?”
  185. >You shrug and hand back the picture.
  186. “I was told once the best works of art have a bit of their artist in them.”
  187. >Addie stares at the picture and says nothing.
  188. >It’s starting to get later, and you intend to fix your lateness starting tomorrow.
  189. >You stand up and stretch, a few joints popping in response.
  190. >Addie sets the picture back and stands over by easel.
  191. >Got to figure out what’s going on her with still.
  192. “I’m going to head home, take care Addie.”
  193. >”...Y-you too...Anon...”
  194. >The walk home is drowned out by random thoughts.
  195. >Still, why are you doing this for someone you barely know?
  196. >Probably because you’re lonely.
  197. >Not like you’re in love with her, right?
  198. >…
  199. >It would be taking advantage of her, and besides, you’re the only support she has.
  200. >It’s not like she would even like you back since you’re different species.
  201. >Shaking your head, you continue forth with your mission in mind.
  202. >Help Addie fly.
