Expiry: Never

  1. 1.
    >Late Saturday afternoon.
  2. 2.
    >You do a quick comb of your hair.
  3. 3.
    >Your outfit is still pretty casual.
  4. 4.
    >You did put on a jacket, though.
  5. 5.
    >You take out your phone to check the time.
  6. 6.
    >It's about that time.
  7. 7.
    >You step outside and start walking.
  8. 8.
    >After a short while, you arrive outside of her home.
  9. 9.
    >You walk up to the door and knock.
  10. 10.
    >After a few moments, it opens.
  11. 11.
    >"Oh, hey Anon. You're right on time."
  12. 12.
    >She's wearing a blue top that really brings out her eyes.
  13. 13.
    >Are there no limits to how badly she can captivate you with just her looks?
  14. 14.
"Are you ready to head out?"
  15. 15.
    >"Yeah. Let's go."
  16. 16.
    >She steps out and you take to the sidewalk side by side.
  17. 17.
    >It's a mostly quiet, but pleasant walk.
  18. 18.
    >As you travel, the edge of the sun reaches the horizon.
  19. 19.
    >Eventually, the fair grounds come into view.
  20. 20.

  21. 21.
    >You're greeted by a variety of sights and sounds.
  22. 22.
    >There are lights all over, coming from tents, strung up along the midway.
  23. 23.
    >A commotion of people talking, playing games, and what even sounds like live music.
  24. 24.
    >You approach the admissions area and pay for both of your tickets, handing Sunset hers.
  25. 25.
    >When you enter, you're greeted by a seemingly endless variety of things to see and do.
  26. 26.
    >Games of all kinds, food, caricatures, curiosities.
  27. 27.
    >You both look around in wonder and try to figure out what to do first.
  28. 28.
    >As you make your way through the fair grounds, the music gets louder.
  29. 29.
    >A large open area at the center of the event seems to play host to a stage.
  30. 30.
    >"He's always been pretty good at playing the guitar, hasn't he?"
  31. 31.
"Yeah, well... I don't like to say so. No need to let his head get too big, right?"
  32. 32.
    >You both decide to stay and listen to Flash Drive play for a while.
  33. 33.
    >As you listen to him rock out, you scan the area around you.
  34. 34.
    >You spot that catches your interest.
  35. 35.
    "You hungry at all?"
  36. 36.
    >Sunset nods to you.
  37. 37.
    >"Actually, it would be nice to try some of the food."
  38. 38.
"I'll go grab us something then. I'll be right back."
  39. 39.
    >You hurry off, as not to keep your date waiting for too long.
  40. 40.
    >Your date.
  41. 41.
    >Just thinking about that makes you smile.
  42. 42.

  43. 43.
    >After a quick jog, you reach it.
  44. 44.
    >You've had the food from this stand before during previous years.
  45. 45.
    >It never disappoints.
  46. 46.
    "Hey there, Applejack!"
  47. 47.
    >She gives you a welcoming smile.
  48. 48.
    >"Howdy, Anon!"
  49. 49.
    >Despite being a high schooler, she always manages this stand.
  50. 50.
    >There are shelves of all kinds of freshly made apple goods.
  51. 51.
    >Everything looks so good.
  52. 52.
    "Two apple fritters, please."
  53. 53.
    >She gathers them up from their shelf and sets them out on the counter.
  54. 54.
    >You go to reach for your wallet, but she puts up a hand to stop you.
  55. 55.
    >"There'll be no need for that, Anon. Let's just call us square for the trouble I caused ya earlier this week."
  56. 56.
    >You give her a smile and a nod before picking up the desserts.
  57. 57.
    "Thanks, Applejack."
  58. 58.
    >As you turn to leave, she calls after you.
  59. 59.
    >"Y'all have fun this evenin'!"
  60. 60.

  61. 61.
    >You return to Sunset to find her trying hard not to laugh and failing.
  62. 62.
    >Flash is showboating HARD.
  63. 63.
    >Power slides.
  64. 64.
    >Jump kicks.
  65. 65.
    >Trying to play with his teeth.
  66. 66.
    >You can't help but bust out laughing at the sight.
  67. 67.
    >However, you do manage to get ahold of yourself.
  68. 68.
    "Here, Sunset."
  69. 69.
    >You hand her an apple fritter.
  70. 70.
    >"Good choice, Anon. Applejack always comes through when it comes to good food."
  71. 71.
    >She takes a bite and you can see the satisfaction creep into her expression.
  72. 72.
    >You both hang out and enjoy the fritters while poking fun at Flash's showmanship.
  73. 73.
    >Eventually, the number that he's playing ends.
  74. 74.
    >"Thank you! We'll be back for another set later!"
  75. 75.
    >Flash Drive clears the stage.
  76. 76.
    >The stage isn't vacant for long though, as a certain party-wild friend of yours drags up and starts up a player organ.
  77. 77.
    >Sunset shakes her head with a smile.
  78. 78.
    >"Pinkie Pie is so random."
  79. 79.
    "You're telling me."
  80. 80.

  81. 81.
    >The two of you return to the midway and browse the attractions again.
  82. 82.
    >There are a lot of games here that you could play to try to win Sunset a prize.
  83. 83.
    >Ball throw, ring toss, test your strength...
  84. 84.
    >Definitely going to pass on that last one.
  85. 85.
    >Your attention is grabbed when a softball flies past you and crashes into a tower of bottles.
  86. 86.
    >"Aww, yeah! Chalk up another win!"
  87. 87.
    >It looks like Rainbow Dash is dominating the games, one at a time.
  88. 88.
    >"Hey there, Rainbow Dash!"
  89. 89.
    >After Sunset calls out, she turns to look at the two of you.
  90. 90.
    >"Sunset and Anon, eh? Having fun?"
  91. 91.
"It's been pretty good so far. I see you've found a way to challenge yourself."
  92. 92.
    >Rainbow smirks.
  93. 93.
    >"Yeah. I mean, these games aren't THAT hard. It's all either strength or skill, right?"
  94. 94.
    >As if to prove her point, she walks over to the ring toss, pays for three throws, and immediately manages to get one to land."
  95. 95.
    >She makes it look so easy.
  96. 96.
    >When she throws the second one, you're watching closely.
  97. 97.
    >It's not random.
  98. 98.
    >She throws the third one.
  99. 99.
    >She's snapping her wrist to spin the rings.
  100. 100.
    >"Too easy. I think I'm gonna take a break for a while. You two 'lovebirds' have fun."
  101. 101.

  102. 102.
    >You know that Rainbow only said that to give you two a hard time.
  103. 103.
    >It still doesn't change the way that your heart flutters when you see Sunset blush a little bit.
  104. 104.
"Come on, Sunset. Let's try out some of the games."
  105. 105.
    >She nods to you.
  106. 106.
    >"Alright, Anon. You're on!"
  107. 107.
    >First, you both try the ball throw.
  108. 108.
    >Though you generally like to think that you have good aim, you don't quite knock all of the bottles over.
  109. 109.
    >Sunset on the other hand manages to beat it.
  110. 110.
    >"Nice!"
  111. 111.
    >You chuckle.
  112. 112.
    >She looks around, then her attention is taken by a nearby whack-a-mole game.
  113. 113.
"Go ahead. I'll catch up to you in a minute."
  114. 114.
    >As she picks up the mallet, you turn to go for your own target.
  115. 115.
    >You put down some money at the ring toss booth.
  116. 116.
    >The attendant hands you three rings.
  117. 117.
    >You carefully take aim and toss the ring, trying to copy Rainbow Dash's technique.
  118. 118.
    >It fumbles on contact with the bottle, but just barely manages to catch around the neck.
  119. 119.
    >You take in a deep breath and exhale.
  120. 120.
    >You throw the second ring, which manages to land on its bottle more easily than the last one.
  121. 121.
    >Picking up the third ring, the tension is on.
  122. 122.
    >Getting the last thing right in a series is always the hardest for some reason.
  123. 123.
    >You focus in and throw the ring.
  124. 124.
    >It seems to fall in slow motion.
  125. 125.
    >You're relieved when it lands.
  126. 126.
    >"Good job, Nonny! You won a prize!"
  127. 127.

  128. 128.
    >You double-take.
  129. 129.
    >Did you not notice that she was the attendant?
  130. 130.
    >Or has she somehow inexplicably replaced the the person that was here before?
  131. 131.
    >You shake it off and look at the prize shelves that Pinkie is gesturing to.
  132. 132.
    >There are stuffed animals, cheap "jewelry," all kinds of random junk...
  133. 133.
    >Something catches your eye.
  134. 134.
    >It's a necklace.
  135. 135.
    >It's nothing spectacular, it looks like the pendant is some kind of colored glass.
  136. 136.
    >But when you see that red and gold swirl, you know that's the one.
  137. 137.
"I'll take that necklace there, Pinkie."
  138. 138.
    >She picks it up and holds it out to you.
  139. 139.
    >"Good choice. I bet she'll love it."
  140. 140.
    >You hope that she likes, it anyway.
  141. 141.
    >Giving Pinkie a quick wave goodbye, you go to rejoin Sunset.
  142. 142.
    >Then you hear something.
  143. 143.
    >"Psssst..."
  144. 144.

  145. 145.
    >You freeze for a moment.
  146. 146.
    >Then you hear it again.
  147. 147.
    >"Psssst..."
  148. 148.
    >When you look around for the source of it, you spot a hand waving you over from behind a nearby stall.
  149. 149.
    >As you cautiously approach, you find yourself being addressed directly this time.
  150. 150.
    >"Anonymous, darling. Over here."
  151. 151.
    >Rarity is trying to quietly get your attention.
  152. 152.
    "Rarity? What do you want?"
  153. 153.
    >"Just trying to lend you a hand, darling."
  154. 154.
    >She looks away from you, then makes a gesture inviting you to look that way.
  155. 155.
    >You follow her gaze.
  156. 156.
    >And then you smile.
  157. 157.
    "Thanks, Rarity."
  158. 158.
    >"Think nothing of it, darling. Just a romantic trying to do her part."
  159. 159.
    >She winks at you before leaving.
  160. 160.
    >With a smile on your face, you head back down the path to meet with Sunset.
  161. 161.

  162. 162.
    >She's still playing the same game.
  163. 163.
    >She seems to be really into it.
  164. 164.
    >It looks like this round is wrapping up, though.
  165. 165.
    >Time to act.
  166. 166.
    >As the timer runs out, you sneak up behind her.
  167. 167.
    "Pretty good job, Sunset."
  168. 168.
    >You throw your arms around her in a hug.
  169. 169.
    >"A-Anon..."
  170. 170.
    >She sounds surprised, but she doesn't seem to mind too much.
  171. 171.
    >After a few moments though, she squirms a little bit.
  172. 172.
    >"You can let go now."
  173. 173.
    "Fiiine."
  174. 174.
    >As you retract your arms, you take the chance to clasp the necklace that you won earlier around her neck.
  175. 175.
    >Sunset turns around to face you, then looks down at your gift for her.
  176. 176.
    >She lifts it up to get a better look at it.
  177. 177.
    >"You won me a prize? That's so sweet of you."
  178. 178.
    >She looks up at you with a big smile.
  179. 179.
    >"Thanks, Anon. I love it."
  180. 180.
    >You put off having a heart attack from how cute that was and grab onto her hand.
  181. 181.
    >"Anon, what-"
  182. 182.
    >You grin.
  183. 183.
    "You'll see..."
  184. 184.
    >You drag Sunset along with you to your next destination:
  185. 185.
    >The Ferris Wheel.
  186. 186.

  187. 187.
    >The two of you excitedly get in line and are let onto the ride in a pretty short time.
  188. 188.
    >Now for the rough part of the ride...
  189. 189.
    >Waiting for it to finish getting loaded up and start.
  190. 190.
    >The wheel turns to let passengers into the next empty car.
  191. 191.
    >"So, Anon. How about you tell me a bit about yourself."
  192. 192.
    "Like... what?"
  193. 193.
    >"Well, I know what you're like at school. How about something from your past?"
  194. 194.
    >You think.
  195. 195.
"This is probably going to sound really lame, but there's probably not a lot to tell."
  196. 196.
    >She doesn't buy it.
  197. 197.
    >"Come on, Anon..."
  198. 198.
    "Well..."
  199. 199.
    >You take a moment to think.
  200. 200.
"You've even noticed for yourself that I tend not to stand out. I've done a bunch of things, been in lots of different clubs, but there aren't really any stories to tell."
  201. 201.
    >She looks at you like she expects more.
  202. 202.
"I mean, I learned a lot of practical skills and stuff, but I wasn't really on top anywhere I went. To be honest, I don't really mind it."
  203. 203.
    >She smiles softly.
  204. 204.
    >"Well, you're a pretty special person in my book, Anon. And after this week, my friends probably think you're pretty cool too.
  205. 205.
    >Hearing her say that warms your heart.
  206. 206.
    >You've never had a lot of friends.
  207. 207.
"So... how about you, Sunset? What was your life like before you came to Canterlot High?"
  208. 208.

  209. 209.
    >Sunset doesn't say anything.
  210. 210.
    >She averts her gaze.
  211. 211.
    >After a moment, you can tell that maybe that's an uncomfortable subject.
  212. 212.
"Sunset? If you don't want to talk about it, you don't have to. It's okay."
  213. 213.
    >She looks into your eyes.
  214. 214.
"No, Anon. It's fine... It's just... a little bit strange."
  215. 215.
    >She takes a moment to collect her thoughts.
  216. 216.
    >"You know about all of the magical things that have happened around here recently, right?"
  217. 217.
    >You nod.
  218. 218.
    >"That magic came from the place where I'm from."
  219. 219.
    "Okay... And where is that?"
  220. 220.
    >"I'm from a world that's called Equestria."
  221. 221.
    "Okay, I'm still following you."
  222. 222.
    >You can tell that she's getting a little more hesitant to keep going, but she continues.
  223. 223.
    "What is it, Sunset?"
  224. 224.
    >"It's just... There aren't any humans in Equestria, Anon."
  225. 225.
    >Okay...
  226. 226.
    >"Anon, I'm..."
  227. 227.
    >You reach out and gently grasp her hands.
  228. 228.
    >She takes a deep breath.
  229. 229.
    >"Anon, I was born and spent almost my whole life as a unicorn."
  230. 230.

  231. 231.
    >Before she can manage to shrink away from her, you pull her into a big hug.
  232. 232.
    >"Wha- Anon?"
  233. 233.
    "It's fine, Sunset... Really."
  234. 234.
    >She's stunned.
  235. 235.
"I don't care if you're from another world, or if you're a unicorn, or whatever. You're here now, and I like you no matter what you used to be."
  236. 236.
    >After a moment, she throws her arms around you.
  237. 237.
    >You can feel your shirt get a little bit wet as she buries her face into your shoulder.
  238. 238.
    >You stay like this for a while until she finally lets go of you.
  239. 239.
    >"Thank you Anon... I was worried that you might think I was weird and-"
  240. 240.
"Sunset, we've talked about this before. Your past isn't as important to me as who you are."
  241. 241.
    >You gaze deeply into each other's eyes as the ride shifts again.
  242. 242.
    >Now you're at the top of the ferris wheel.
  243. 243.
    >The colors in the sky paint a beautiful picture around you as the moon begins to rise and the last glowing colors of the sun begin to fade out as it sets.
  244. 244.

  245. 245.
    >You hold each other closely as the ride starts up, enjoying both the view and each others' company.
  246. 246.
    >With each rotation, the evening shifts more and more into night, until the light of the moon and the fairgrounds are everything.
  247. 247.
    >Eventually, the ride comes to an end and you both step out of your car.
  248. 248.
    >Now that it's night, the fair has come to life in a completely different way.
  249. 249.
    >When you arrived, it was a little bit slow, but now there are tons of people here.
  250. 250.
    >You feel Sunset reach out and grab your hand.
  251. 251.
    >The two of you look at each other and gently smile before continuing off into the fairgrounds together.
  252. 252.
    >The whole place is bustling with people.
  253. 253.
    >Noise fills the air.
  254. 254.
    >The lights that are strung up cast bright colors onto the people below.
  255. 255.
    >Good smells permeate the air as the food vendors become busy.
  256. 256.
    >However, the two of you still manage to find a more quiet corner in the event.
  257. 257.

  258. 258.
    >There are some animal pens set up.
  259. 259.
    >Rabbits, goats, sheep...
  260. 260.
    >That's when a quiet voice speaks up.
  261. 261.
    >"Hello, Sunset. Hello, Anon."
  262. 262.
    Sunset speaks up first.
  263. 263.
    >"Hi there, Fluttershy. Running the petting zoo this year?
  264. 264.
    >"Yep. You know how much I just love taking care of little animals."
  265. 265.
    >You both smile.
  266. 266.
    >Fluttershy is so quiet and kind.
  267. 267.
    >It makes her outward happiness infectious.
  268. 268.
    >You and Sunset hang around the petting zoo for a while.
  269. 269.
    >You even get some things from Fluttershy to try feeding to the critters.
  270. 270.
    >When you look over at Sunset, she's gently stroking a pony's muzzle.
  271. 271.
"Wow, Sunset, you're really good with horses."
  272. 272.
    >She turns and gives you a look that says "Really?"
  273. 273.
    "Oh. Right..."
  274. 274.
    >You reach into your pocket.
  275. 275.
"Do you want a sugar cube?"
  276. 276.
    >"ANON!"
  277. 277.
    >Fluttershy lets out a quiet yelp as you dash past her, Sunset in hot pursuit.
  278. 278.

  279. 279.
    >You rush through the fairgrounds, being chased by your date.
  280. 280.
    >You're both laughing so hard.
  281. 281.
    >"Get back here Anon!"
  282. 282.
    "NOPE!"
  283. 283.
    >As you pass through the center of the fair, you see that Flash and his band are back and finishing up another song.
  284. 284.
    "FLASH!"
  285. 285.
    >He looks your way just in time to see you give him a series of hand signals.
  286. 286.
    >Then you look back.
  287. 287.
    >Sunset is gaining on you.
  288. 288.
    >Quickly, you dash into the fun house.
  289. 289.
    >Shortly after, Sunset arrives inside.
  290. 290.
    >"Where are you Anon?"
  291. 291.
    >You don't answer.
  292. 292.
    >This is a hall of mirrors
  293. 293.
    >And you're in the lead.
  294. 294.
    >Outside, the music changes.
  295. 295.
    >A soft rock ballad pours in through the walls as Sunset slowly starts navigating the room.
  296. 296.

  297. 297.
    >Every now and then, you purposefully send your reflection towards her, leading her further along.
  298. 298.
    >"Come on, Anon. Where are you?"
  299. 299.
    "Psssst..."
  300. 300.
    "Hey, Sunset!"
  301. 301.
    >"Anon, where are you?"
  302. 302.
    >She tries to follow your voice, but she's having trouble figuring out where you are.
  303. 303.
    "Hey... Hey... Pssst..."
  304. 304.
    >She's getting closer to you.
  305. 305.
    >"I'm going to find you, Anon."
  306. 306.
    >She's still playing along as you continue to string her along.
  307. 307.
    "Hey, Sunset!"
  308. 308.
    >"What, Anon?"
  309. 309.
    "Guess what?"
  310. 310.
    >She turns a corner to find you suddenly standing in front of her.
  311. 311.
    "I love you."
  312. 312.
    >You lean in.
  313. 313.
    >Your lips meet hers.
  314. 314.
    >After a moment of surprise, she melts into the kiss and puts her arms around you.
  315. 315.
    >"I love you too, Anon."
  316. 316.

  317. 317.
    The End.
