>May 14, 2038
-
>A week after leaving Canterlot, you arrived in the freshly conquered Gildedale.
-
>After seeing what happened to Equestria, Gildedaleans did not dare attempt to resist a European invasion.
-
>One quick and bloodless surrender later, an FOB was already established.
-
>Generaloberst Hoth put you in charge of overseeing the preparations for the journey ahead.
-
>You were accompanying the German general in a diplomatic mission to the Griffon Kingdoms.
-
>You thought that they would've sent a politician, a diplomat that specialized in this to do it.
-
>However, based on previous research, it seems that they would likely only heed the words of a being who's profession is warfare.
-
>Therefore, they sent an army general.
-
"Sergeant, are we ready?"
-
>"Jawol, the men are ready when you are".
-
"Good, I'll inform the General we are ready to depart".
-
>You couldn't say that you agreed with the approach the brass was taking with diplomacy.
-
>It looked like an invasion.
-
-
>Hours later, you found yourselves above the mountains of the Griffon Kingdoms.
-
-
>You and the Germanic giant were sharing an NH90 en route towards the Griffons' biggest city and capital, Gryphus.
-
>The side door was open, and the cold winds were stinging your face.
-
>Outside you could see other choppers, troop transports, maybe ten of them...
-
>Ahead of your craft were five Eurocopter Tigers.
-
>Flying a few hundred meters above you were a pair of JAS 39 Gripens.
-
>Funny, Gripen translated into English was "Griffon", they're operating in appropriate territory.
-
>Looking below, two winged figures were en route towards your aircraft.
-
"Permission to speak freely, sir?"
-
>"Granted".
-
"You don't think this formation seems a bit aggressive for what we're doing?"
-
>"If you did your homework, you'd know that something like this is what these warlike people respect".
-
"Monsieur, we have two sentries nearing our helicopter!"
-
>"I'll speak to them."
-
>Several others were flying ahead of the formation, each carrying spears or muskets.
-
>Those first two sentries flew up to the open side door of your chopper.
-
>You moved aside for the General to see them.
-
>Seeing this, they were visibly surprised at the size difference between you and your superior officer.
-
>One of them moves closer.
-
>"What is your business here, foreigner?"
-
-
-
-
>"We have come to look for allies and we would like to speak with your leader, any place where we might be able to land?".
-
>They guided us over to a small open courtyard.
-
>It wasn't very big, hardly an adequate place to land.
-
>That's when it finally occurred to everyone...
-
"Oh, dammit."
-
>They can fly, so why the hell would they need to build facilities to accommodate aircraft?
-
>Sure they had places for airships, but those are too few and far between here.
-
>"Well, there's more than one way out of this thing, lower the lines".
-
>You had no choice but to rappel down from the choppers.
-
"Sir, what if negotiations just crumble and we find ourselves fighting these creatures, how will we evacuate?"
-
>"We'll just need to hold out long enough for reinforcements or evac."
-
>Brilliant.
-
>The lines were lowered, you and the other personnel rappelled down to the concrete floor.
-
>It wasn't exactly ideal for you to do this in a dress uniform, and with your entire kit on your back.
-
>As soon as you hit the ground, you looked up, only to see the German general's massive ass falling down towards you.
-
>"Oh fuck no..."
-
>Jumping and rolling away from the point of impact, the ground shakes a little bit upon his landing.
-
>There are cracks at where is feet made.
-
>Never mind dodging a bullet, you just dodged a shell.
-
>"Sorry, mein kamarade."
-
>He waved off the helicopter and it disappeared into the thickness of the snowfall.
-
>Two attack helicopters flew overhead above you and the squad.
-
"General, they can't stay here forever, we should be rotating their patrols..."
-
>"I am aware, Kapitän, I am working on it".
-
>As soon as he was finished speaking to commanders at the FOB you began your five kilometer trek across many stone bridges towards the king's palace.
-
>More and more soldiers, both yours and the Griffons', would be following you shortly.
-
-
-
-
>Five kilometers wasn't really that long, but given how cold it was, it felt like walking across all Russia, on the Arctic Circle, starting from Finland, and ending in Alaska.
-
>Not even the trench coat you were issued made much of a difference up here.
-
>Finally making it to their king's palace, you and the general start making your way up the concrete stairs.
-
>Taking a look around, you happened to notice a familiar face among the winged beasts.
-
>Purple eye-liner, purple highlights, golden yellow eyes...
-
>You remember her from Cloudsdale, when they refused to surrender she fought alongside them.
-
>She was an incredibly good fighter, she almost killed you and general Montoir the first time you encountered her.
-
>You shouldn't have stared at her too long, seems she noticed.
-
>You could only hope that she didn't recognize you.
-
>Being happy to finally be inside, you made your way to the nearest fire to warm yourself.
-
>"Don't be too long captain, I'd like you to be present when we meet the king".
-
>If it were the French general he would be rushing you, probably not giving you any time to get comfortable.
-
>Looking back at the entrance, you notice that the griffon you recognized was following her comrades in.
-
>She looks towards you as she does so.
-
>You are thinking to yourself...
-
"Damn, she does recognize me".
-
>Returning to your commander's side, you are now more than anxious to begin the meeting with their king.
-
>Anything to get out of sight from that beast.
