(footsteps approach, looking around)

 

"This way."

 

(continuous walking, burning of torch)

 

"Wow... look at all this writing. An entire lost language all around us. I've never seen these symbols anywhere else in all my travels. Have you? ...V?"

 

(she sees you sitting down, somewhat out of breath or shaken)

 

"Hey... you need a break?"

 

(reluctant nod)

 

"I told you this wasn't gonna be a cakewalk, you know. There was no harm in staying at the camp site."

 

(you look at her with worry)

 

"Don't give me that look. You know I usually work alone. You don't have to worry about me getting stuck in a cave somewhere."

 

"But... it was still sweet of you to come along. I could always use an extra pair of hooves."

 

"But if you're not feeling up to it-"

 

(head shake)

 

"You're sure of it?"

 

(head nod)

 

"Alright then. Let's keep going."

 

(walking, you tap her shoulder)

 

"Hmm? Oh, right. Well... the language on the walls is Erback, an ancient language by the Pelopan civilization. Legend has it that these were an advanced society of ponies on the verge of technological breakthroughs that even Equestria has yet to achieve. But the time of the Windigos destroyed their crops and ravaged the land around them, forcing them to abandon their homes. They never returned. And now all that's left of what used to be the largest civilization of its time... is just... here. Crumbling away to nothing. I doubt anyone but you or me even knows about this place, not even Caballeron or Ahuizotl... but I've been wrong before."

"You're staring again."

"Anyway... I've been documenting what I could of the Pelopans for the last ten years. If my findings are accurate, the Pelopans kept their documents in the Chancellor's Temple. The only way to get in was by using an Arruban Amulet. Only those in high positions of power could obtain them. There's only four left in the world today, and those who own them have no idea what they're for. But I've got one of them. And I know how to use it."

 

(gasp, finding the door)

 

"This is it. This is the door to the chancellor's office!"

 

(walking, Daring opens her satchel to find the amulet)

 

"My findings also tell me the last chancellor was a bastard. Before the windigos came... he planned to confiscate all the Amulets the Pelopans owned. That way, he'd be the only one in and out of this chamber."

 

(ruffling through bag, she pulls out the arruban amulet)

 

"It's a good thing for us nopony listened to him."

 

(she inserts the amulet into the keylock)

 

(stone moves as the door opens)

 

(small gasp)

 

(walking)

 

(touching fabric/books/etc.)

 

"I don't believe it. It... it's all still here."

 

...?

 

"It's been thousands of years! All of this should be dust and rubble. But it's all here. Everything they ever documented... up to the very last book."

 

"How is this... whoa!"

 

(whir)

 

(touch)

 

"Preservation Field. Of course. Clever Pelopans. That's why everything's still here. They were hoping to come back. Or at the very least... hoping somebody would save all of it."

 

"Imagine it, V. Some of these documents could push the world into a new developmental age. Think of all the good that could come from this..."

 

...

 

"And if it ever got into the wrong hooves... the bad."

 

...

 

"That's why we can't let anyone else find this place."

 

G("Well, then you're very well too late on that.")

 

(walking as bad guy approaches)

 

"*gasp* Goliath."

 

G"Daring Do. Long time no see. Glad to see you still remember me as always. And... who... would this be?"

 

(hoof steps)

 

"Don't you dare."

 

G"Oh ho, Daring Do! You dog! He's your special somepony! He's looking mighty young for your age, but hey. I won't judge."

 

"How did you find this place?"

 

G"I've been researching the Pelopan Civilization as well. I've been trying to find these archives since you were still a foal suckling on your mother's teat. And I'm not about to let you sweep these precious treasures from my grasp. So I'm gonna be the nice guy, and let you and your fiance here walk away with your lives."

 

DD"You're not getting your hooves on these documents, Goliath. I won't let you."

 

G"Then I guess we got... trouble."

 

(hoofsteps, you step in front of Daring)

 

G"Hmm. Make that double trouble."

 

DD"V, no."

 

G"Yeah, V. Be a good little colt and hide behind your girl before you make a very big-"

 

(you punch Goliath)

 

G"Bad choice."

 

(Goliath throws you, smashing you into a glass display)

 

DD"V!!!"

 

(Daring runs towards you, but is stopped by Goliath who holds her up)

 

G"And now I'm angry. This would've been so much easier if it was just you. Now you bring a little ungrateful prick into the mix. That's okay. Because he's next."

 

(you run up and slam Goliath into another glass display)

 

(fighting occurs)

 

(Goliath dodges your punch and you end up smashing one of the crystals that hold the preservation field together)

 

G"You fool!"

 

(Goliath throws you into another one of the crystals, causing the core to explode)

 

(the place begins to fall apart as you and Goliath fight)

 

(he grabs a piece of debris and hits you with it, knocking you down)

 

"You little... bastard!"

 

(he kicks you while you're down)

 

"Not so tough now, ain't ya? You think you're just another hero. Well then... I'm so gonna enjoy killing you."

 

(Daring strikes him from behind)

 

"Ugh... l-lucky... shot..."

 

(thud)

 

(crumbling)

 

DD"The whole place is coming down! We have to get out of here!"

 

(You and Daring run through the room, dodging obstacles)

 

(you both stop)

 

"Quick! Up there!)

 

(you continue to run as pieces of wall break apart and floodwater comes through)

 

(a chunk collapses and sends you flying into the water)

 

"V!"

 

(Daring jumps in after you and grabs you underwater)

 

(you resurface as Daring struggles to keep you afloat)

 

"Come on, V! Keep kicking!"

 

(pillars and debris crash all around you, Daring keeps swimming)

 

"Stay with me, V!"

 

(Daring notices the ceiling giving way)

 

"Hold on, V!"

 

(The temple implodes, the place collapses, quickly filling with rushing water)

 

(You and Daring are swept through flooded tunnels, eventually emerging through an open hole by a river side)

 

(two thuds, they fall onto wet ground)

 

(heavy breathing, DD catches her breath)

 

"V... V-V...?"

 

(she sees you're not moving)

 

(she puts her ear to your chest, no breathing, can't hear a thing)

 

"No... No!"

 

(she starts cpr)

 

(she pants, desperate)

 

"Come on, V... come on... breath... ugh... breath... ngh... breathe! Please!"

 

(sputtering and coughing, you are revived inaccurately, but what the hell)

 

"V! Hey hey hey... easy..."

 

(you nod, coughing)

 

"Oh, V..."

 

(Daring hugs you, on the verge of tears, but sniffles)

 

"I thought I lost you."

 

(you pull away, shaking your head, indicating that won't ever happen)

 

(you clear your throat, trying to remove any excess water)

 

"You need a minute?"

 

(you shake your head, mouthing 'goliath')

 

"You don't have to worry about Goliath. I didn't see him get out... but he's survived worse..."

 

(you look up towards where the temple used to be, nothing but ruins and smoke in the distance)

 

"The temple's gone. Along with everything in it."

 

(you ruffle through a satchel, pulling out papers and books preserved)

 

"Y-You... you got the documents! But how?!"

 

(you give her a smirk, showing her the inside of your satchel)

 

"Waterproof. Clever..."

 

(you smile at her, putting the papers away)

 

"Hey... let's head back to camp. I wanna take a look at you..."

 

(you glance at your satchel)

 

"You're more important right now. Okay?"

 

(you reluctantly agree, getting on your hooves, struggling slightly)

 

"Don't worry, V. I got you."

 

(you two head back to camp)
