  1. Story inspired by the OP greentext in this thread https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/37647936
  2. The following is the original greentext that prompted the story.
  3. >Maretime Bay? Zephyr whats? What the hay are you talking about Anon?
  4. >I was telling you about the trip to Baltimare we’ve been planning. I got our train tickets at a great price… Free! First class, too!
  5. >Oh, they were comps! A patient gave them to me because she got ‘em as a gift, but she couldn’t get away those days. Lucky break, huh?
  6. >I’m so glad we’re getting out of Canterlot for a bit, Anon. Don’t get me wrong, I like it here, but it’s just so… stuffy?
  7. >And there’s no water! Yeah yeah there’s the waterfall and all, but I’m talking about real water! The coast! I hear Horseshoe Bay is just beautiful this time of year!
  8. >So quit spacing out and let’s get inside to pack! The train leaves tomorrow at seven in the morning, sharp.
  9.
  10.
  11. “Wait a sec, are you serious about this?”
  12. >“Of course I’m serious about this, opportunities like this don’t happen all the time, you know!”
  13. “Of course I want to go, but it’s so sudden, we didn’t finish planning everything out yet. I don’t even know what to take, how long will we be gone?”
  14. >”C’mon Anon, live a little! Sure it’s pretty last minute, but we need to take advantage of this!”
  15. >Suddenly, Colgate's expression sours, and she sighs heavily.
  16. >”Please? I’m gonna go anyways but I really don’t want to head out alone, and it'd be a total waste of a ticket.”
  17. >Her ears begin to droop a bit, and her eyes look like they're about to water.
  18. >”There’s no way Lemon Hearts or Twinkleshine would take the day off, you know what workaholics they both are, and Moondancer left on that student exchange trip thingy, you’re the only one who can come with me.”
  19. “I... well...”
  20. >Now it's your turn to sigh, there’s no helping it, how could anyone say no to her?
  21. “Alright then, let’s get packing.”
  22. >Colgate's expression immediately lights up, and she jumps up in the air, yelling at the top of her lungs.
  23. >”Woohoo! You’re the best, Anon!”
  24. >She wraps her forehooves around you, squeezing tightly.
  25. >For being roommates for less than a month, she certainly is affectionate.
  26. >Ever since you arrived in Equestria, it surprised you just how receptive the ponies were to you.
  27. >You figured most ponies would be very kind, but Colgate stands out even amongst the friendliest of ponies.
  28. >"Well what are we waiting for? Let's get in there and start packing already!
  29. "We need to make a list, first! What are we even going to take?"
  30. >"I guess you'll need clothes, but I've got nothing weighing ME down, except all the bits I got to save on not having to buy tickets!"
  31. >She giggles to herself, clearly excited on having lots of disposable bits to buy souvenirs and who knows what else.
  32. >Must be nice, you've barely scrounged up enough to cover your share of the rent.
  33. >Even Donut Joe's employee discount isn't enough to net you a donut lately.
  34. >"Oh, but don't worry Anon, I can cover for you if you want anything, just say the word and it's as good as yours!"
  35. "Thanks, well I'd better get started then, we've got a few hours until nighttime and we need to wake up early to catch the train."
  36. >"I don't know how I'm gonna be able to sleep with all this excitement, ooo I wish it was tomorrow already!"
  37.
  38. >The sun has started to set, and somehow everything's been taken care of.
  39. >The suitcases are packed and ready, you let Joe know you'd be gone for a few days, and Lemon Hearts agreed to house sit while you were gone.
  40. >With everything done, all that was left was to enjoy the evening with Colgate.
  41. >"Phew, glad that's taken care of, now we're good to go first thing in the morning."
  42. "Yeah, it didn't take as long as I expected, we have plenty of time to rest now."
  43. >"Well, we COULD just relax here, but how about we hit the town for a bit, to celebrate our big trip?"
  44. "What did you have in mind?"
  45. >"We could go out to eat at that new restaurant, I heard it's amazing, the chef is apparently some big shot all the way from Manehatten!"
  46. >"OH, and we can go stargazing after we finish, it's been sooo long since I've gone to the meadows!"
  47. >The Canterlot Royal Meadows is a public park close to the Royal Garden, it's a popular spot due to it's distance from the city.
  48. >It's one of Colgate's favorite spots to visit, despite her excitable nature she loves the rare moments of peace she's afforded when she's not working.
  49. "I don't think we have time though, I mean look at the sk-"
  50. >"Then we'd better get going, they close early and we might not make it!"
  51. >She grabs some bits from a table and starts to gallop.
  52. >"C'mon Anon, we're burning daylight here!"
  53. >She pushes you ahead, instinctively causing you to start running.
  54. "There's no daylight to burn anymore, Colgate, the sun's already gone!"
  55. >"Then we've gotta pick up the pace double time, hurry!"
  56. >At least you'll be building up an quite an appetite if you make it in time...
  57.
  58. >"The stars are really something tonight, huh?"
  59. "Yeah, Luna really outdid herself this time, there's got to be millions up there, and they're all shining so beautifully."
  60. >After enjoying the delicious meal, the two of you headed toward the meadows and decided to rest on an empty hill.
  61. >The sky was beautifully illuminated, and free of obstruction, perfect for marveling at the indescribable beauty that is Luna's night.
  62. >Surprisingly, no one else was around, so you had the whole place to yourselves.
  63. "You think the sky will look like this in Baltimare, too?"
  64. >"I bet it'll look even better, imagine the sky's reflection on Horseshoe Bay, I'm really excited to see it."
  65. "Me too, it took me a while but I'm really looking forward to tomorrow now."
  66. >"I'm glad to hear it!"
  67. >You continue watching the stars for a while in peaceful silence, when Colgate suddenly speaks up.
  68. >"Anon..."
  69. "What's up?"
  70. >"Thanks for putting up with me today."
  71. "What do you mean? Today has been nothing but great!"
  72. >"I know I pushed you into doing a whole lot without warning, and it's really unfair to you, especially since you like to plan things out and all."
  73. "Oh that, don't worry about it, it was a nice change of pace, really."
  74. "Besides, I really do need to get out of my shell, imagine what I would have missed out on if it weren't for you."
  75. >"You aren't just saying that to make me feel better, are you?"
  76. "I mean it, you've changed my life for the better, I couldn't have asked for a better friend to be by my side."
  77. >She pulls you in for a hug.
  78. >"Aww you! I didn't expect you to get all mushy on me!"
  79. "I'm serious, I really just enjoy being with you, Colgate."
  80. >"And I really like being with you too, you're so different from everypony else, but just as sweet as one of Pinkie's tasty treats."
  81. "Speaking of Pinkie, did you hear about what happened during her last delivery?"
  82. >"I've got an even better story, about what happened when Twilight found out she-"
  83. >The two of you spend the rest of the night chatting away, the luminescent sky a perfect backdrop to a wonderfully comfy time.
  84.
  85. >Morning has arrived, with the sudden burst of sunlight serving as a gentle wake up call.
  86. >Looks like the two of you dozed off on the hill without realizing.
  87. >'*yawn* Good morning Anon, slept well?"
  88. "Surprisingly I did, I thought I'd be freezing out here."
  89. >"Well, I think I might have helped a bit with that."
  90. >She winks at you, it only just occurs to you that she's currently right on top of your chest.
  91. "O-oh, um, I..."
  92. >"I noticed you were shivering after you went to sleep, so I thought I'd help keep you warm!"
  93. "S-so you slept on my chest!?"
  94. >"Sure did! It just made sense, I was a bit chilly too, so I figured why not stay close and keep warm together?"
  95. >You feel your cheeks begin to blush, she really was a bold pony.
  96. "Well thanks, I guess, but you could have just woken me up so we could head home."
  97. >"I tried for a while, but you're a reeeaaally heavy sleeper, so I gave up and went to sleep too."
  98. "Oh, sorry about that, guess I was really tired after all the excitement yesterday."
  99. >Right on cue, you give a mighty yawn and wipe your eyes, you aren't normally awake this early in the day.
  100. >"Hope you're ready to get excited again, because it's finally Baltimare time!"
  101. >How she can possibly be this peppy this early in the morning is a mystery.
  102. >"So let's head home and grab our tickets, the train's probably ready to head out any minute now!"
  103. "Right behind you..."
  104. >While she starts galloping at full speed, you slowly shamble along, still groggy and slightly dazed.
  105. >She notices your snail's pace and yells back at you while galloping away.
  106. >"Maybe you should just head for the station, sleepybones, I'll meet you there after I get our things!"
  107. "Okay..."
  108. >You feel bad for leaving her to bring everything on her own, but considering she has magic it's really not much of a burden for her.
  109. >Time to head to the station.
  110.
  111. >There's quite a few ponies at the station this morning.
  112. >The lines are packed, who knew Baltimare was such a popular destination?
  113. >Luckily you won't have to wait at all, looks like there's no line for the first class section.
  114. >What does a first class section even look like on a train?
  115. >Guess it's time to find out, Colgate has just arrived.
  116. >"Phew! Glad I made it, and with plenty of time to spare, too."
  117. "Looks like it'll be awhile until we need to board, but should we go in early anyways?"
  118. >"You bet! We gotta make use of as much time as we can in there, it's not everyday a pony gets to live the lap of luxury."
  119. "Alright then, after you."
  120. >You make your way to the entrance, where an attendant reviews your tickets and guides you to the frontmost car.
  121. >"Wow, no wonder these tickets cost a premium, check this place out!"
  122. >The interior of the first class room is quite breathtaking, the wooden walls are a beautiful mahogany, complimented by a stunning red carpet.
  123. >A magnificent golden chandelier in the center subtly illuminates the area.
  124. >A small bar with several varieties of expensive looking drinks is directly across a pair of sofas that are large enough for even you to comfortably sleep on.
  125. >There's also a jukebox and a small monitor right beside the bar, currently playing a lovely orchestral piece through speakers in the ceiling.
  126. >No doubt about it, this was worth every penny.
  127. >Of course, that's much easier to say when it's not your hard earned bits being spent.
  128. >After spending a while staring in awe, the attendant speaks up.
  129. >*"I hope your accommodations are satisfactory, if you require anything further, please don't hesitate to ask."
  130. >"Thanks a lot!"
  131. "Yeah, thanks."
  132. >As he leaves the room, Colgate immediately proceeds to jump on the sofa.
  133. >"Woo! Not too shabby, right? I knew this was a great idea!"
  134. "No kidding, I can't believe just how extravagant this is."
  135. >"And looks like it's all for us!"
  136. >She's right, it's just the two of you in this spacious room.
  137. >Either the other first class passengers are fashionably late, or no pony else was crazy enough to burn loads of bits on staying in this room.
  138. >"What should we do first? I know it's probably a bit early but there's a nice selection of prime drinks here!"
  139. >Checking out the various bottles, they weren't exactly what you were expecting.
  140. "Sweet Apple Acres Apple Cider, Manehatten Sparkling Blood Orange Juice, Berry Twins' Cherry Grape Seltzer..."
  141. >They're surprisingly tame, ordinary drinks.
  142. >"Look at this selection! I really shouldn't, especially since I just brushed my teeth, but I've gotta try some of everything!"
  143. "Don't go too crazy now, think of the potential for cavities."
  144. >"Sometimes we need to throw caution to the wind, Anon, we don't always get chances like these."
  145. >Before she can begin her daring escapade, the door you entered from suddenly opens, and in enters a rather unexpected guest.
  146. >>"Oh, hello there, this is quite a surprise."
  147.
  148. >Taken aback, you can't believe who your sudden guest is, even Colgate is speechless.
  149. >>"Allow me to introduce myself, I am-"
  150. >"Princess Luna! I can't believe it, Anon, it's Princess Luna! The princess of the night is standing RIGHT HERE!"
  151. >No doubt about it, that beautiful flowing mane, the imposing crown, the surprisingly bashful posture, that's Luna alright.
  152. >>"I see there is no need for my introduction, well, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
  153. >"Wowowow, I can't believe Princess Luna is right in front of me! Oh, I almost forgot, my name's Colgate, and this is my friend Anon."
  154. "Uh, er, um... hi."
  155. >Smooth.
  156. >>"Anon and Colgate, I am pleased to meet the both of you."
  157. >"It's really great to meet you too, princess!"
  158. >You finally snap back from the daze of meeting one of the most important ponies in Equestria, on a train heading toward a random city of all places.
  159. "It's very nice to meet you as well, Princess Luna."
  160. >Hopefully that makes up for the rather informal greeting.
  161. >>"There is no need to bother with my title, my friends, please consider me as simply a fellow passenger."
  162. >"But prin- I mean, Luna, what brings you on the Friendship Express?"
  163. >>"Well, it is admittedly a surprise to myself as well, I only discovered I would even be embarking on this trip the night before last."
  164. >>"Princess Celestia was originally scheduled to attend a meeting concerning the state of affairs between Canterlot and Baltimare, but a last minute emergency prompted her to send me in her stead."
  165. >>"With the principal royal guards accompanying her, there was no immediate option available to me but to take the train to journey to Baltimare."
  166. "That makes sense, even if you flew it would take several days to get to Baltimare, as opposed to about several hours by train."
  167. >>"Correct."
  168. >"This is unbelievable! Oh where did I put my camera, nopony is gonna believe this happened without a picture!"
  169. >As Colgate proceeds to rummage through the suitcases, you sheepishly grin at Luna, and scratch your head.
  170. >You're still rather at a loss for words.
  171. >>"Please do not feel intimidated by my presence, I would very much enjoy learning more of the two of you."
  172. "Of course, please forgive my rudeness, it's just..."
  173. >Luna knowingly nods her head, she's probably been through this song and dance plenty of times before.
  174. >>"I'm certain you've heard much from the ponies regarding the role my sister and I play for the benefit of Equestria, yes?"
  175. "That's right, you raise the moon and can visit the dreams of others, right?"
  176. >>"That is more or less the extent of my duties, at least the most prominent ones."
  177. "It's pretty hard to not be a little intimidated then, when a pony that important shows up all of a sudden."
  178. >She chuckles.
  179. >>"I understand that feeling well, Anon. Regardless, I do hope you and Colgate will at least be willing to converse with me, formalities or not."
  180. >No need to worry about Colgate, that's for sure.
  181. >"Found the camera! I didn't think I'd need it so soon so it was all the way at the bottom, sorry about the mess, Anon."
  182. >As you look back, the floor is littered with everything you had painstakingly organized the night before.
  183. "*sigh* Yeah, no problem, I'll get it all sorted again."
  184. >"But first, picture! Ready Luna?"
  185. >>"Absolutely, is this an appropriate pose?"
  186. >She stands proudly with her wings spread wide open, a confident look etched on her face.
  187. >"That's perfect! Anon, crouch down here next to me, okay?"
  188. "Fine, is this good?"
  189. >"Great! Okay, ready everypony?"
  190. >"1, 2, 3!"
  191. >"Cheese!"
  192. >*click*
  193.
  194. >"Now that's a keeper, thanks Luna!"
  195. >>"It was my pleasure."
  196. >"So hey, you're gonna hang out with us when we get to Baltimare, right?"
  197. "You heard her Colgate, she's got royal business to attend to, she'll be busy."
  198. >"I know that, Anon, but she's not going to that meeting all day, so she can spend the rest of the day with us!"
  199. >Luna's face lights up.
  200. >>"I would be happy to, it will be my first venture into Baltimare as well."
  201. >"You've never gone for a visit before?"
  202. >She shuffles her hooves in place a bit and sighs heavily.
  203. >>"The place you now refer to as Baltimare did not exist when I had last visited the area 1000 years ago, it was an untouched natural landscape."
  204. "Oh..."
  205. >Right, being sealed in the moon probably doesn't present many opportunities to go exploring.
  206. >>"I am told it is an entirely different beast from even Canterlot, I must admit the thought of visiting has me anxious."
  207. "No need to worry, we can get to know the place together, it's my first time going as well."
  208. >>"That is comforting indeed. Tell me Anon, how long have you been with us here in Equestria?"
  209. "It's been a month, more or less."
  210. >>"I see, you were part of the initial arrivals, then, when humans were first sighted."
  211. "I guess so, though I haven't seen many other humans around, seems most of them arrived in Ponyville, while I showed up in Canterlot."
  212. >>"Has it been difficult transitioning to the Equestrian way of life?"
  213. "Oh no, not at all, I'm having the time of my life here, mostly thanks to Colgate."
  214. >"Aww, you sweetheart, you!"
  215. >>"It warms my heart to hear that, ever since I first heard of the arrival of humans I was concerned on how well they would adapt to a new world."
  216. "No no, it's been perfect, I'm much happier here than I was back on Earth."
  217. >>"Earth... so that is the name of your previous world."
  218. "Yep, that's the place."
  219. >>"Would you mind telling me more about Earth? If it isn't too much of a bother, of course."
  220. >"Hey, I wanna hear more about Earth too, we've never talked about it much before, now that I think about it."
  221. >Frankly, you'd prefer to forget all about your previous life if you could help it.
  222. >They look pretty interested though, it would be rude not to talk at least a little about what Earth was like.
  223. >Before you can respond, the train whistle begins to blow, and a voice echoes through the room.
  224. >*"Attention passengers, the Friendship Express is preparing for departure, please make your way to your seats."
  225. >"Ahhh! It's almost time! Luna, Anon, let's celebrate with a drink, how about the sparkling OJ?"
  226. "Sure, why not, let's commemorate the occasion."
  227. >>"A toast then? So be it, to a wonderous adventure."
  228. >You all nod in agreement.
  229. >To a wonderful adventure!
  230.
  231. >*"All aboard!"
  232. >The sound of the train whistle reverberates in the room, it's finally time to depart.
  233. >Colgate heads toward the window and starts waving goodbye to the ponies on the platform.
  234. >"Bye everypony, take care!"
  235. >Luna chuckles at the sight.
  236. >>"Colgate is certainly a very enthusiastic pony, isn't she?"
  237. "You're telling me, it's hard to keep with her energy sometimes."
  238. >>"It must make for a lively experience at home though, no?"
  239. >That's putting it mildly...
  240. "It can get a bit much for me, but being with her makes it totally worth it."
  241. >>"Forgive me if I sound presumptuous, but I must say I find your bond a little surprising."
  242. "I don't blame you for being surprised, even now it's hard to believe we're as close as we are."
  243. >>"How is it that the two of you came to meet?"
  244. >"Oh, I'd love to tell you about it!"
  245. >With the platform now out of sight, Colgate returns to join in on the conversation.
  246. >"While I was out shopping, I saw Anon unconscious in the middle of Canterlot Square."
  247. >" There was a huge crowd surrounding him but nopony was doing anything to help, so I went up to check on him."
  248. "I don't blame any of them, I'd be apprehensive too if a weird creature I'd never seen before just appeared out of nowhere."
  249. >"You don't look weird at all, silly, what's weird is why everypony was so scared of you."
  250. >>" I'm afraid the general populace of Canterlot is much less trusting than the average pony citizen, it's rather unsurprising."
  251. >"Yeah, ain't THAT the truth."
  252. >She rolls her eyes, she's made it pretty clear before she doesn't think much of her fellow Canterlot citizens.
  253. >"I mean sure, I grew up here too, but lots of the Canterlot ponies are just so full of themselves, and it can get pretty tiring dealing with them."
  254. >"Anyways, after I pushed through the crowd and got close enough to see if he was okay, he started fidgeting a bit."
  255. >"You should have heard the screams, Luna, you'd think we were under another changeling attack or something!"
  256. >>"It isn't difficult to imagine, the citizens are rather easy to frighten over most any mundane event."
  257. "I got the wake-up call of a lifetime thanks to that, I was terrified."
  258. >"After the others left in a panic, I started talking to him."
  259. "I was still pretty shocked, so I wasn't making much conversation."
  260. >"*giggle* Tell me about it, I thought you couldn't talk at first so I tried pantomiming, but it didn't go very well."
  261. "Yeah, I got a bit scared and started yelling "Please don't hurt me!" while huddling, I wasn't sure what was gonna happen."
  262. >"I was sooo relieved he could talk so I could tell him everything was okay, and that I wasn't gonna hurt him."
  263. "After I calmed down, she asked me if I wanted to come to her house and rest for a bit, and I came home with her."
  264. >Luna looks a bit shocked, impressive to think even she's surprised by the extent of Colgate's good-naturedness.
  265.
  266. >>"I'm certain nearby passerby were left aghast on your way home, yes?"
  267. >"They were all frozen stiff, just couldn't take their eyes off him."
  268. >She cocks an eyebrow and nudges me a bit.
  269. >"I know he's quite the looker, but come on, can't a guy get any privacy?"
  270. >I can't believe she just said that, and right in front of the princess, too...
  271. >>"I find it quite fascinating still, that even with such contrasting personalities you are as close as you are."
  272. "Variety is the spice of life, I suppose."
  273. >That being said, I do wonder what it is Colgate finds so interesting about me.
  274. >"It just feels natural, I guess. Feels like he's always been there, he's a pretty comfortable part of my life now."
  275. "We do hang out a lot, obviously since we live together it's bound to happen."
  276. >"It's more than that though, it's the little things. Our talks about anything, eating together, showing him the sights, it's just a fun time all around."
  277. >>"I see, again I must apologize for being so inquisitive, my eagerness to understand different kinds of friendships forces me to step beyond my boundaries."
  278. "I don't mind at all, it was nice reminiscing for a bit."
  279. >"What about your friends, Luna? What are they like?"
  280. >Well, there is my sister, and a few of the Elements of Harmony, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie-"
  281. >"No way! I didn't know you were friends with Twilight and Pinkie, I am too!"
  282. >>"Well, that certainly is a coincidence."
  283. >"Twilight's one of my childhood friends, and EVERYPONY is friends with Pinkie."
  284. "It's true, even I've gotten to meet her, surprisingly we hit it off well enough."
  285. >>" I formally met them when I visited Ponyville for Nightmare Night, though it was not a smooth encounter initially."
  286. >"I remember seeing you there! That was a really fun night."
  287. >>"You were present there? How mortifying, I handled the whole situation horribly, didn't I?"
  288. >"Nah, I thought it was all an act, you really amped up the energy for the night, everypony was having a great time."
  289. >>"That is good to hear, I am glad the ponies were able to enjoy themselves even after my spectacle."
  290. >"I wasn't able to stay long after since I had to get home, but you looked so happy, it was great to see."
  291. >>"It was a memorable night, and I left contently knowing that after a millennia I once again had friends."
  292. "That's wonderful, Luna."
  293. >>"*sigh* But truth be told, though I do consider them dear friends, we have seldom had an opportunity to "hang out."
  294. "Why is that?"
  295. >>"Being the princess of the night, I am restricted to remaining in close proximity at almost all times to Canterlot."
  296. >>"And with their duties as the Elements, my friends are also often preoccupied, as such we have not interacted in some time now."
  297. >Makes sense, not exactly a job either party can easily shirk off.
  298. >>"Celestia is often out on royal tasks as well, as such I must remain present in the castle in case of any event that would necessitate our presence."
  299. >She looks out toward the window at the fading view of Canterlot Castle.
  300. >>" It... does become rather draining, spending the majority of the day in isolation."
  301.
  302. >>"You know, Anon, I myself haven't been present in Canterlot for long, either."
  303. "Is that right?"
  304. >"That's news to me too, it's been a few years now since you came back, right?"
  305. >>"I've only been in Canterlot since my return, Celestia and I lived elsewhere in the past."
  306. >"Now I definitely didn't know that, I thought the princesses had always lived in Canterlot. "
  307. >>"Actually, my sister and I originally resided in the Everfree Forest."
  308. >Colgate spits out her drink.
  309. >"You lived in the Everfree Forest!?"
  310. >>"I suppose it's only natural some historical details were lost over the years, but yes, we did."
  311. >"I had no idea a pony could survive in there, wasn't it scary?"
  312. >>"Our original castle was located deep within the heart of the forest, we were well protected from any threat."
  313. >>"Also, I rather enjoyed the surroundings, Equestria's natural beauty is truly unparalleled, even in that foreboding forest."
  314. >She's got that right, it's quite a sight here.
  315. > Looking through the opposite window, the rolling Equestrian landscape was even more beautiful than you could ever have imagined.
  316. >The huge empty plains, the massive open sky, the towering mountains in the distance, and so much more. It truly was a world of possibilities.
  317. >Luna sighs once again.
  318. >>"At some point after my banishment, Celestia decided to relocate and left our original home behind. It was... a difficult revelation for me."
  319. "It was like suddenly moving away from your home, I get that."
  320. >>"Regardless, I had a duty to the citizens to appear strong and joyous to have returned home, even if in reality everything was moving too rapidly for me to keep up."
  321. >"That's crazy, you always look so confident whenever you're out in public, I figured you got used to things pretty quick."
  322. >>"Then I am performing my role well, but I will admit it can become exhausting keeping up the appearance."
  323. >"Well I'm glad you're letting loose with us, that's what friends are for. You can tell us anything that's on your mind, anytime."
  324. "Right. We've all got our struggles, but it's easier to handle them when you've got friends to hear you out."
  325. >>"I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the two of you. I... have always had difficulty in fostering friendships."
  326. >"No way that's true, what kind of pony wouldn't want to be your friend?"
  327. >>"I fear I exude a rather morose aura, ponies assume I am aloof and distant, and thus are apprehensive to approach me."
  328. >>"That is one such quality that has not changed since my return. I am simply not as lively as the average pony."
  329.
  330. >>"I do often wish I could exhibit more of a jovial attitude, I tire of being depicted as the "brooding" princess."
  331. >"Your heart is the most important thing that matters, if only ponies could understand that appearances aren't everything."
  332. >>"Were it only so."
  333. >Colgate motions toward a door beside the bar.
  334. >"Hey, you guys wanna go outside for a bit? That door there leads to a little platform we can stand on, it's even got some seats."
  335. "I don't know, sounds a bit terrifying."
  336. >"I'm sure it's safe, its even got railings, let's go take a look.
  337. "Fine, just hope I don't fall out or something."
  338. >>"I thank you for the invitation, but I believe I will relax here for a while, I find the atmosphere comforting."
  339. >"Alrighty then. If you get bored, you could play some music on the jukebox, looks like it's got some of the latest tunes from the human world."
  340. >>"Truly? Well, I would be remiss to pass up such an opportunity, I shall browse the selection then."
  341. >"Okay, offer's still open if you want to join us later."
  342. >As she opens the door, the sudden flood of light overwhelms your eyes.
  343. "Gah! Give me a warning next time!
  344. >"Oops, guess we were stuck in the dark longer than I thought, but check out the view!"
  345. "Gimme a sec, I need to find the binoculars, I know they're thrown out somewhere around here."
  346. >"Okay, I'll be waiting outside!"
  347. >She closes the door, and the room quickly dims.
  348. >It's almost eerie how quiet it is without her there, she really does brighten up any room.
  349. >Anyways, time to sort through and try and find those binoculars.
  350. >If only she was a bit more careful when needlessly throwing things around.
  351. "Come on, I know you're around here somewhere..."
  352. >>"I believe you are looking for this?"
  353. >Luna floats the binoculars over to you.
  354. "Ah great, thanks a lot."
  355. >>"My pleasure, I hope you enjoy the vista as much as I do."
  356. "I will, sure you wanna stay here on your own, though?"
  357. >>"I've only recently awakened myself, I'm afraid the light is currently too intense for me."
  358. "You could always ask your sister to turn down the brightness a bit."
  359. >She smiles at your poor joke.
  360. >>"An amusing jape, honestly I suspect she truly would consider were I to ask her."
  361. "The two of you are pretty close, huh?"
  362. >>"My sister means the world to me, and I to her, our bond is one I treasure dearly.
  363. "That's sweet, I'm glad the two of you are so close knit."
  364. >>"I as well, it was relieving to know that spending years apart had not dulled our friendship in the slightest."
  365. "That's beautiful, Luna, it really is."
  366. >Oh, better go check up on Colgate, hopefully she didn't try to climb on top of the train car or anything.
  367. "Well, we'll probably be out there a while, so feel free to stop by."
  368. >>"Perhaps later, for now I will use this time to acquaint myself with the music in this jukebox."
  369. "Okay, have fun then."
  370.
  371. "Whoa..."
  372. >Looking through the window really didn't do the view of the landscape justice.
  373. >The wind was fierce, but invigorating, you could barely hear yourself think.
  374. >Colgate spreads her forearms wide to feel as much of the wind as she could.
  375. >"This is amazing! I feel so alive, wheeee!"
  376. >Your heart drops as she walks closer to the edge.
  377. "Be careful, are you trying to fall off?!"
  378. >"Relax! I've got great balance, I once did a dental check-up on Pinkie while we were balancing on a tightrope!"
  379. "....what?"
  380. >"It was a birthday request!"
  381. >"But never mind me, take out your binoculars and see what you can spot!"
  382. "Will do."
  383. >With the binoculars, you're able to pick up on a lot of hidden details all around you.
  384. >The grass of the Equestrian Plains was a rich emerald color, and the infinite amount of flower meadows were a diverse assortment of colors.
  385. >The rushing waters of Neighagra Falls were a brilliant cerulean, and you could see a pony in a barrel going over them.
  386. >The city of Cloudsdale flew prominently in the wide open sky, with a few pegasi flying around.
  387. >Even Mt. Everhoof's prominent peak could narrowly be spotted far in the distance, it's snowy summit a prominent white.
  388. >"Don't forget to look behind you!"
  389. >Looking back, you see Canterlot towering above you, the Canterlot Falls roaring right at your side.
  390. >It was a surreal feeling that finally struck you, all this beauty all around, and so many ponies to get to know.
  391. >You'd never felt more motivated in your life to go out and about to explore the world.
  392. >"Isn't this the best? The wind feels so great, I love it!"
  393. "It's honestly incredible."
  394. >"I really need to bring back a souvenir for my patient, think on what we would have missed out on if it weren't for her."
  395. "Yeah, it's been nothing but a great time since we got those tickets."
  396. >"We haven't even gotten to Baltimare yet, but so far this trip has been a blast."
  397. >"Just picture everything we'll get to do once we get there, I'm so excited!"
  398. "I bet there's a bunch of activities to do, how are we gonna pick where to start?"
  399. >"Whatever catches our eye first, easy.
  400. "Fair enough, most of our fun comes from unexpected surprises anyways."
  401. >"Especially today, who'd have thought we'd get to meet Princess Luna and become her friend?"
  402. "It's almost like it was fate."
  403. >"Hey, you're right, it does feel like we were meant to meet, like it was destiny!"
  404. "I was just joking, I doubt it means anything."
  405. >"But think about it, we did both get last minute reasons to go to Baltimare on the same day, and at the same time, too."
  406. "That's true, but I think it's just a big coincidence."
  407. >"It would be really fun if there was a real reason for it, though."
  408.
  409. >She rests her forearms on the rails and looks toward the horizon.
  410. >"Even if it's not fate, I do want to be Luna's friend, I get the feeling she's pretty lonely."
  411. >Her tone changes, it almost sounds... somber?
  412. "She said it herself, she's usually on her own in that big castle, that's got to be hard to deal with."
  413. >"And she never gets to see her friends, everypony is always so busy."
  414. "That's the problem when all your friends are big shot heroes, can't exactly put things off like saving the world."
  415. >"We can fix that, at least. We've got more freedom to go out, and I'm sure she'd love some company."
  416. >She sighs heavily.
  417. "Something wrong?"
  418. >"Just thinking."
  419. "A bit for your thoughts?"
  420. >"It's nothing, I just don't want another friend to think I don't care about them."
  421. "Hey hold on, you aren't talking about me, aren't you? Because I really love being your friend, more than anything!"
  422. >"Anon, I-"
  423. "You've been nothing but the friendliest and most caring pony ever since we met, the only one who gave me a chance."
  424. "You're the kindest, sweetest, most thoughtful pony I've ever met, there's no one I'd rather be with on this trip than with you!"
  425. >It's not like you to blurt out your feelings like this, but if Colgate ever once doubted how much she meant to you, something was wrong.
  426. >"Oh you silly goose, I was talking about Moondancer!"
  427. >She pulls you in for the tightest hug of your life.
  428. "Agh, Colgate! Too tight!"
  429. >"It's your fault, you don't know how much it means to hear that, you really need to speak your mind out more often!"
  430. "I won't get to if you crush my ribs!"
  431. >She releases her death grip of a hug.
  432. >"We need to bulk you up when we get back, I know a great guy in Ponyville who's all about working out."
  433. "Sure, once my bones properly heal.
  434. >She giggles as you catch your breath, it really felt like she was going to snap you in two.
  435. >Near death experience aside, it was a sweet moment you shared.
  436. "So Moondancer once felt like you didn't care about her? That's hard to believe, you seem pretty close to me."
  437. >"It wasn't always like that, years ago after a party didn't go like she planned, she starting shutting herself off from everypony."
  438. "Ah, I take it not many ponies showed up?"
  439. >"She didn't invite many ponies to begin with, she's pretty shy so it was just a few of us."
  440. "Oh, then what happened?"
  441. >"Not everypony she invited showed up, so she took it pretty hard."
  442.
  443. >"After that, she never wanted to hang out anymore, she always made up excuses about needing to study."
  444. "Was she upset at you guys too?"
  445. >"Afraid is more like it, whenever we'd come by to visit she always sounded so nervous."
  446. >"She'd sometimes act abrasive and I knew it was an act, but I could tell she was really hurting."
  447. >"The others said it might be best to give her some space for a while, and eventually that while became weeks, then months, then years."
  448. >Her eyes drift towards the ground.
  449. >"I know we're pals again, but I still feel like I let her down, not bothering to see her for so long."
  450. "I'm sure she understands, it's not like she made it easy for you to approach her."
  451. >"We did talk about it not long after we started hanging out like old times, she said she didn't blame any of us for what happened."
  452. "There you go."
  453. >"More than anything, I'm just glad she's opening up again, I missed being her friend."
  454. "I bet she missed being your friend too."
  455. >" I'm lucky enough to have so many great friends by my side, but it must be hard feeling lonely, like nopony out there cares about you."
  456. >You think to yourself, "It's not easy, that's for sure."
  457. >"That's why I want Luna to know she'll have us to support her, if there's one pony who needs to know how much they're appreciated, it's her."
  458. "She's been through way more than the average pony, that's for sure."
  459. >"All the more reason to hang out with her and get her to open up a bit, I'm sure she's got a lot to share on how she feels."
  460. >Spirits raised, her gaze meets yours once again.
  461. >"Y'know, I really like our heart-to-heart talks, they always take a load off my mind."
  462. "It's comforting letting your mind speak freely, isn't it? "
  463. >"Yeah, I'm know I'm usually pretty happy-go-lucky but honestly I tend to worry a lot about things."
  464. "I can relate, don't forget I'm always here for you whenever you want to talk, or do anything really, that's what friends are for, right?
  465. >"Righto!"
  466. "So, got enough of the view?"
  467. >"Yeah, the scenery won't change for a while, and the wind's starting to mess up my mane, let's head back in."
  468. "After you."
  469. >As you re-enter the train car, a calming, familiar melody begins to play.
  470.
  471. >>"Welcome back, how did you enjoy the view?"
  472. >Luna is laid out on the sofa with a serene expression.
  473. >"It was great, it felt like I could see all of Equestria from out there! Look's like you've been having fun too, whatcha listening to?"
  474. >>"According to the monitor, the song is tittled Gymnopédie No.1."
  475. >Surprisingly, you were familiar with this song, or at least an arrangement of it from a certain game you had played long ago.
  476. "How'd you find this track? It's far from one of our latest hits, in fact it's pretty old, it was made over a hundred years ago."
  477. >>"One hundred years is old? I must be ancient in your eyes then."
  478. "Oh no, no not at all! I'm sorry, I was just exaggerating, I didn't mean to imply-
  479. >>"Do not worry yourself, Anon, it was merely said in jest."
  480. >She gives a small grin while Colgate giggles at your lacking sense of humor.
  481. "Heh, sorry about that."
  482. >>"Pay it no mind."
  483. >>"Now, back to your question, the jukebox allows for selection between a myriad of genres, I simply browsed until I found one I found interesting."
  484. >"It can do that? Cool."
  485. >>"Yes, I settled on the classical genre and this is my favorite piece from what I've encountered so far."
  486. >"It sounds really pretty, but it's making me a bit sleepy."
  487. >>"I enjoy the melancholic tone, I find it soothing and relaxing."
  488. "From what I remember, it's intended to be played slowly and gravely, emphasis on the slow part.
  489. >>"Perhaps that is why I feel an attachment to it, the solemn vibe is comforting, it echoes sentiments I find myself often reflecting on."
  490. >She stretches for a bit before getting up.
  491. >>"Shall we change it to a more uplifting tune? I'm certain there are more fitting songs to better liven the ambiance."
  492. "Nah, I like it, it's been a while since I last heard it so it's good to hear it again."
  493. >"I think it sounds nice too, it'll be the perfect backdrop while we're eating lunch."
  494. "Is it lunchtime already?"
  495. >"In about a minute, and get this, lunch is on the house!"
  496. "Are you serious?"
  497. >"Completely serious, it says it right on the ticket, 'lunch included,' see?"
  498. >>"Indeed, my ticket says it as well."
  499. "Man, everytime I think these tickets just can't get any better, somehow they manage."
  500. >"Isn't this just the best? I hope whatever we have for lunch is a real whopper, cause I'm starving!"
  501. >Your stomach growls in response.
  502. >"Heehee, that's what we get for skipping put on breakfast. No worries, we'll get filled up in no time."
  503. "I wouldn't count on it, first class or not I bet these places cheap out and give really small portions."
  504. >"You don't think they'll make something special just for us?"
  505. "Doubt it, there's only three of us here, we're probably having the same thing as the other passengers."
  506. >"Ooo, then I hope it's daisy sandwiches with hayfries, I LOVE having that for lunch."
  507. "We'll find out soon cause the waiter should be here with our food any minute now."
  508. >Right on cue, there's a sudden knock on the door.
  509.
  510. >*"Good afternoon, pardon the interruption but I've arrived in tow with your lunches."
  511. >"Yes, I've been looking forward to this, come on in!
  512. >The attendant enters pushing along a cart with three silver plated food domes and an assortment of utensils.
  513. >As he lifts the dome, a tantalizing aroma begins to waft through the room, with a sight that makes your all mouths water instantly.
  514. >*"Today's lunch features our renowned mushroom fricassee served over polenta, accompanied by a purée of potatoes hoofpicked by generation long inhabitants from the Smokey Mountains, a medley of stir-fried vegetables procured locally from Ponyville, and sautéed Appleloosan apples glazed with crystal nectar."
  515. >You're all left in awe at the sight.
  516. >It's easily the most extravagant meal you've ever seen in your life, and it's all yours, for free!
  517. >Everything on the plate is enticing, what should you start with first?
  518. >The attendant clears his throat.
  519. >*"Apologies, but if you have no further need of me, I shall take my leave and allow you to enjoy your meal."
  520. >>"I believe we are currently content at the moment, thank you for your concern, it is most appreciated."
  521. "Yeah, I think we're good, thanks."
  522. >"Y-yeah, thanks a lot."
  523. >"*Bon appétit."
  524. >And with that, he departs from the room.
  525. >The three of you are still at a loss for words.
  526. >Colgate's mouth continues to water, and Luna looks completely mesmerized.
  527. >Shaking her head, Colgate is the first to snap out of her daze.
  528. >"Well what are we waiting for, let's dig in!"
  529. >>"Agreed, I hadn't realized prior but I'm positively famished!"
  530. >It didn't seem real that such a delicious meal was right there for the taking, you'd swear the food would vanish if you so much as blinked.
  531. >The fricassee looks the tastiest out of everything, the juice pouring out from the mushrooms almost glistening against the steam.
  532. >Colgate and Luna levitate their forks and immediately start digging in.
  533. >Fork in hand, you follow suit and go straight for the plumpest looking mushroom, taking your first bite.
  534. >The flavor is unparalleled by anything you've ever had before.
  535. >"Wowzers, I've been to some of the best joints in Canterlot but this blows all of them out of the water!"
  536. >>"Incredible, everything from the presentation to the aroma to the taste is perfect, even in the castle I have not received such an illustrious meal."
  537. > You savor every bite as slowly as possible, allowing your senses to be overcome by the sheer euphoria of the tastiest meal you've ever had.
  538. "This is amazing, flat out the best thing I've ever had, I need to learn how to make my food this tasty."
  539. >>"Are you a cook, Anon?"
  540. "Hardly, best I can say is I'm careful I don't burn anything."
  541. >"He's just being modest, he's a great cook, we'll have you over sometime to try his food."
  542. >>"I would be delighted."
  543. >Imagine cooking for a princess, no pressure there.
  544. >You carry on enjoying the meal, talking between bites in an attempt to make the experience last as long as possible.
  545.
  546. >After the fantastic meal, you were left feeling rather drowsy, and decided to take a short nap.
  547. >At least, that was the intention.
  548. >It ended up lasting the rest of the trip.
  549. >*"Attention, passengers,"
  550. >The sudden blaring from the loudspeaker startles you awake.
  551. >*"Our estimated arrival time at Baltimare Central Station is in approximately 10 minutes, please prepare accordingly for arrival."
  552. >"YES! It's about time we got here!"
  553. >Rubbing your eyes, you see Colgate bouncing from sofa to sofa in excitement.
  554. >In contrast to Luna, who is silently gazing at the view outside in deep thought.
  555. >You yawn intensely, capturing their attention.
  556. >"Hey sleepyhead, great to have you back with us!"
  557. >>"Did you have a restful nap, Anon?"
  558. "It was pretty good, *yawn* how long was I out for?"
  559. >"For like hours, the food was so good you dozed off right after we finished."
  560. >Mmm... the taste still lingers on your tongue, it really was the best meal you ever had.
  561. >>"It was certainly a deep slumber, we attempted to wake you but you were wholly unresponsive."
  562. "Guess I was more tired than I thought, sorry about that."
  563. >The train's pace gradually begins to slow.
  564. >"I hope you're feeling reenergized now cause we've finally made it, take a look!"
  565. >Peering out into the window, it's quite a sight.
  566. >You've finally arrived at Baltimare, the giant harbor metropolis.
  567. >Looming skyscrapers dominate the skyline, and Horseshoe Bay's waters glisten with the sun's reflection.
  568. >The wide open streets are filled to the brim with ponies going about their business.
  569. >There're a few relaxing on benches, a couple of street vendors selling crab themed merchandise, and hundreds of patrons going in and out of stores.
  570. >Most look in a rush to get to who knows were, it's far more of a hectic environment compared to Canterlot.
  571. >You take a glance at Luna, who'd gone back to staring outside alongside you.
  572. >She has a blank expression on her face, seemingly unsure of what to make of the city.
  573. "Are you nervous about being here?"
  574. >>"Just feeling a bit out of my element, I suppose."
  575. >Her gaze is unflinching.
  576. >>"Baltimare is surprising, I wasn't expecting the level of hustle and bustle to supersede Canterlot's."
  577. >"That just makes it so much more exciting!"
  578. >Colgate gets right in between you two to look outside as well.
  579. >"Think about it, there's so much to do, look at the boats out on the water, or that giant building filled with stores!"
  580. >"Oh! That guy is selling crab hats, and that one there is selling some really cute pastries!"
  581. >"So many new things to get to try, I don't even know where to start!"
  582. "How about starting with getting our things into the hotel?"
  583. >"Oh you're right, we need to find a place to stay while we're here."
  584. "Find? What do you mean?"
  585. >She sheepishly grins at you.
  586.
  587. >"Ehehe... it might have slipped my mind yesterday to call ahead for reservations."
  588. "You didn't have a room already reserved!?"
  589. >"It's no big deal! It's the middle of the week, I doubt there's many tourists around so there's probably tons of room everywhere."
  590. "There better be, I doubt they'll let us sleep in the train if we can't find anywhere to stay!"
  591. >"Don't sweat it, we'll get to searching as soon as we get off, then we can have some fun!"
  592. >>"If you'd like, you are more than welcome to join me in my own accommodations."
  593. >"Really?! That would be sooo much fun, we'd love to!"
  594. "Luna, are you sure? Is there enough room for us?"
  595. >>"Plenty, my sister arranged for me to stay in the usual room she resides in when she arrives in Baltimare."
  596. >>"I was told it was 'the pinnacle of luxury' from Ms. Inkwell, with plenty of room and service befitting a princess."
  597. >She rolls her eyes.
  598. >>"Personally I hold disdain for such excessive opulence, but with your company I believe I will find it far more tolerable.
  599. >"Don't need to tell me twice, we'd love to stay with you."
  600. >She beams an incredibly blissful smile.
  601. >"See, I knew things would work out!"
  602. "I really shouldn't be surprised at this point."
  603. >What is it with her and her absurdly good luck?
  604. "I guess it beats searching around aimlessly for hours. Thanks a bunch, Luna."
  605. >>"I should be thanking the two of you, truth be told I was dreading sleeping in that room in solitude."
  606. "I should get to packing, we're gonna be getting off any second now."
  607. >"No worries, it's all taken care of."
  608. >She's right, the suitcase is neatly packed again .
  609. "No way, how in the world did YOU manage to organize everything?"
  610. >"Oh please, I might not be on Twilight or even Amethyst's level, but I can at least pack a suitcase."
  611. >You raise an eyebrow.
  612. >Though she was pretty bright, she was also a scatterbrain when it came to balancing and organizing.
  613. >She was always misplacing things at home, even her dental supplies.
  614. >It's a miracle she didn't lose the tickets to begin with.
  615. >"You were asleep for hours, I had loads of time to get everything sorted."
  616. >...
  617. >Realizing she isn't fooling you, she relents.
  618. >"Fine, I asked Luna to help me out so we could get it done fast."
  619. "There we go, was that so hard?"
  620. >"The packing sure was, I can't believe Luna figured out your crazy sorting method so quickly."
  621. >>"I've had plenty of practice."
  622. "I appreciate it."
  623. >At last, the train comes to a sudden halt.
  624. >The conductor speaks through the loud speaker once again.
  625. >*"Attention passengers, we have now arrived at our destination, the city of Baltimare."
  626. >*"Please make your way to the nearest exit, making sure to secure your belongings as you depart the train."
  627. >*"We thank you for riding with us on the Friendship Express."
  628.
  629. >>"Oh dear, suddenly I feel a bit apprehensive about exiting the train."
  630. "What's wrong?"
  631. >>"I am not normally so anxious, but the city is a beast entirely different from even Canterlot, I do not know the best way to engage the citizens."
  632. >"No worries, let me show you how it's done."
  633. >Colgate beelines for the exit with the two of you in tow.
  634. >"Woohoo! Helloooooo, Baltimare!"
  635. >Not even fully out of the train and she's already made Baltimare very aware of her presence.
  636. >All eyes in the station are now on your little ragtag group.
  637. >Admittedly, even without her sudden outburst, you all stand out amongst the crowd.
  638. >A mare who's larger than life, a human, and the princess of the night herself.
  639. >Once they get over their shock, the ponies kneel in Luna's direction.
  640. >She's at a loss for words, but finds inspiration from Colgate's example.
  641. >>"Y-yes, greetings, citizens of Baltimare! Woohoo!"
  642. >Stunned silence.
  643. >Seeing as how things couldn't get much worse, might as well join the two in embarrassing yourselves.
  644. "What's up, Baltimare?! YEAHHHHH!"
  645. >Though initially bewildered at both your attempts at emulating Colgate, the ponies cheer and applaud in response and soon continue about their business.
  646. >"Yeah! Now that's how you make an entrance!"
  647. >>"Your enthusiasm was the push I needed, my nerves were completely evaporated."
  648. "You got me too, feels like we're a real three ring circus now."
  649. >"It's all about attitude, just gotta show life what you're all about."
  650. >"Now that we're pumped up, let's get out there and show Baltimare what we're made of!"
  651. "Not just yet, Luna has her meeting to get to, remember?"
  652. >"Oh right, totally slipped my mind! So where are we heading, Luna?"
  653. >>"I was told to make my way to Baltimare City Hall, the meeting is supposed to commence approximately an hour from now."
  654. "Just an hour? That doesn't give us much time to find our way around here."
  655. >>"Worry not, my sister arranged for an escort to guide me once I arrived."
  656. >"Phew, that makes things way easier, maybe they can recommend some activities for first timers."
  657. "I thought we would have seen somepony looking out for you by now, is this where you're supposed to wait?"
  658. >>"I had assumed so... but in hindsight it seems I neglected to ask Ms. Inkwell precisely where our meeting would transpire."
  659. >"They have to be around here somewhere."
  660. "I'm sure they'll have an easier time spotting you than us trying to find them, let's walk around a bit."
  661.
  662. >*"Princess Luna!"
  663. >A well dressed pony sifts through the crowd.
  664. >Colgate claps her hooves in relief.
  665. >"I'm glad that didn't take long."
  666. The pony approaches and bows before Luna.
  667. >*"Your highness, my sincerest apologies for arriving late, I'm afraid there was a fair bit of traffic on the way here, I hope you weren't waiting long."
  668. >>"Not at all, I only recently arrived myself."
  669. >*"Ahem, the fine city of Baltimare is pleased to welcome you, princess. I am Mayor Baltimare, at your service."
  670. >Colgate whispers to you.
  671. >"Wow, the mayor himself is here to escort Luna?"
  672. "I guess it's not too surprising, she IS the princess after all."
  673. >>"Thank you for meeting me here, allow me to present my companions, Colgate and Anon."
  674. >"Nice to meet you!"
  675. "Hi there."
  676. >He looks surprised to see the two of you.
  677. >*"Oh, greetings to you, I was unaware the princess's personal attendants would be accompanying her."
  678. >>"Actually, they are not my attendants, we met for the first time on the train ride here."
  679. >*"I see, please forgive my rudeness for my assumption."
  680. >He bows politely.
  681. >*"I'm sure you must be exhausted from your trip, please allow me to escort you all to the Mareiott Hotel to drop off your luggage."
  682. >"Ooo, the Mareiott Hotel, huh? Sounds real fancy."
  683. >*"It is certainly an impressive sight, of that there is no doubt."
  684. >*"Princess, once you are settled in we can make our way to city hall, there is much to discuss regarding the affairs of our fine cities."
  685. >>"Understood, your hospitality is most appreciated."
  686. >*"I am pleased to give it, now let us proceed to the chariot."
  687. >Exiting the station, an impressive carriage is parked right in front.
  688. >*"I apologize in advance for the tight fit, we weren't expecting other visitors apart from you, princess."
  689. >>"It is no trouble at all, shall we get going, my friends?"
  690. >"You bet, the sooner we drop off our things the sooner we can get to exploring!"
  691. >Everyone enters the carriage, it's surprisingly roomy despite the small, outward appearance.
  692.
  693. "Man, I could use a shower before we head out again, everything is sorta fuzzy."
  694. >"Still feeling sleepy?"
  695. "A bit, I need to shake it off so we can get the most out of today."
  696. >"You know what would really wake you up? Swimming in Horseshoe Bay!"
  697. >She points toward the shimmering water.
  698. >Though there are a few ponies on boats, none appear to be swimming.
  699. "Can you do that? Isn't it too cold or whatever?"
  700. >*"While not commonly done, you are free to swim in Horseshoe Bay all you like, provided you can handle the bay's waters."
  701. >Colgate grins in response.
  702. >"That sounds like a challenge. You up for it, Anon?"
  703. "As long as we don't go in too deep, sure."
  704. >"Yay! How long is your meeting gonna last, Luna? You can join us after you're done."
  705. >>"As long as it takes, I must ensure a mutual agreement between our cities is reached where everypony feels satisfied with the outcome."
  706. >*"I will ensure the meeting doesn't take an excessive amount of time. I would also like for you to see the numerous activities our city has to offer."
  707. "Great, sounds like we'll be able to hang out for most of the day then."
  708. >>"I look forward to it."
  709. >Looking toward the opposite side of the carriage, you see several populated streets and a myriad of shops and apartments.
  710. >The buildings are much more tightly packed together than in Canterlot, and there don't seem to be any trees of any kind.
  711. >With the lack of empty space, it almost feels suffocating.
  712. >Luna shares your concerned look, while Colgate continues staring at the waterfront, daydreaming about how she'll spend her day.
  713. >*"Are you alright, princess?"
  714. >>"Of course, I am simply admiring the view of the city."
  715. >*"I am pleased to hear it, Baltimare is a shining beacon of Equestrian innovation, isn't it?"
  716. >>"Indeed it is, truly a marvelous location."
  717. >He buys her false enthusiasm, and looks proud and content at 'impressing' Luna.
  718. >After a few more minutes, the carriage eventually comes to a stop.
  719. >*"Excellent, we have arrived! Please watch your step, everypony."
  720. >Stepping out of the carriage, the sheer magnitude of the building leaves you speechless.
  721. >"Look at the size of this place!"
  722. >The hotel completely dwarfs the adjoining skyscrapers, you swear it might even surpass Canterlot Castle's height.
  723. >Colgate attempts to look at the very peak, and nearly stumbles on her back.
  724. >*"Welcome to the Mareiott Hotel, Baltimare's most prominent landmark, and most esteemed establishment."
  725.
  726. >"It's so big, we're really gonna stay here!?"
  727. "I can't even see the top of it, it really is massive."
  728. >>"It certainly is an... impressive sight."
  729. >*"Indeed it is, within its walls lie the pinnacle of luxury, the finest Baltimare has to offer!"
  730. >You take his word for it, as the interior isn't visible due to the heavily polarized windows.
  731. >The stallions who were pulling the carriage retrieve your luggage and take it inside.
  732. >"Aww, I knew I shouldn't have packed the camera again, this totally calls for another group picture."
  733. "We'll just take one later, promise."
  734. >*"Now then, let us enter. We shall check you all in and then be on our way, princess."
  735. >>"Very well, onward we go then."
  736. > You follow the stallions and make your way inside.
  737. >Though an impressive sight from the outside, the hotel's real impressive view was inside.
  738. >"This... is... amazing!"
  739. "The mayor wasn't kidding about the luxury in here."
  740. >The entire room was a blindingly bright white, with fine red flooring and a massive, marble ceiling depicting the sun and the moon.
  741. >On both sides of the lobby were large stone ledges with rushing waterfalls, cascading into a river that separated the room in two halves.
  742. >A wooden bridge built over the gentle, flowing stream connected the isolated entrance to a large island in the middle.
  743. >A monument made up of two crystal statues of the princesses was the centerpiece, surrounded by columns reminiscent of Corinthian architecture.
  744. >On the other side of the room by the check-in were two large banners featuring the princesses' likeness, flowing freely.
  745. >A booming orchestral soundtrack was playing, reverberating from every inch of the room.
  746. >All in all, it certainly was built to impress, if a bit too well.
  747. >It's almost too gaudy to really take seriously.
  748. >*"You needn't speak a word, you're all impressed beyond words, I know."
  749. >You get the feeling he's mentally patting himself on the back.
  750. >*"Feel free to admire the lobby while the princess and I finalize the check-in process."
  751. >As they cross the bridge, Colgate heads straight to the left waterfall and sticks her hoof in it.
  752. >"Oh, it's so warm!"
  753. >She proceeds to do the same with the river.
  754. >"This feels so good, it's like the perfect temperature for relaxing in."
  755. >She looks at you with a desperate, sincere look in her eyes.
  756. >"Anon, do you think-"
  757. "I'm pretty sure they won't let you swim in it."
  758. >"Aww..."
  759.
  760. >In a short moment, the mayor and Luna return.
  761. >*"You are all set, the couriers have gone on ahead to place your things, the bellhop will escort you to your room whenever you are ready."
  762. >"Yay! I can't wait to see what our room looks like."
  763. >*"I shall wait outside while you ready yourself, princess."
  764. >>"Thank you, I shall not be long."
  765. >He exits the building, and soon a nervous looking young stallion approaches you.
  766. >*"Uh, h-hi there, thanks for choosing the Mareiott hotel for your Baltimare stay, I'm here to guide you to your room."
  767. >>"It is much appreciated, what is your name?"
  768. >He points to a tag on his uniform, looking away and sweating profusely.
  769. >"Bellhop? Isn't that just your job?"
  770. >*"N-no, that's my name, Bellhop."
  771. >"That must get confusing."
  772. >*"I'm sort of used to it at this point..."
  773. >>"Well, Bellhop, thank you for escorting us."
  774. >"O-of course, right this way, please."
  775. >He moves stiffly forward towards a long hallway, keeping a certain distance from your group but looking behind to make sure he didn't stray too far.
  776. >The hallway is filled with various precious looking items on podiums, all protected by glass cases.
  777. >>"They truly desire to make a statement with all this opulence, don't they?"
  778. >You make your way to a room filled with elevators, and approach one that is locked and isolated from the rest.
  779. > Bellhop takes a key from his uniform and unlocks it.
  780. >*"Right in here, please."
  781. >You follow Bellhop inside the elevator.
  782. >Compared to what you've seen so far, it's surprisingly mundane with a simple carpet and wallpaper.
  783. >It's almost refreshing, in a way.
  784. >"It must be a really exclusive suite if they've got the path to it under lock, maybe it's only for royals or something."
  785. "Money talks, it's probably just really expensive."
  786. >"Luna, did you know you'd be staying here?"
  787. >>"I wasn't informed on the details of where I would be residing during my stay, everything was arranged by Ms. Inkwell under counsel from my sister."
  788. "Celestia's probably done this tons of times, so she probably knew what she was doing."
  789. >>"I suppose so."
  790.
  791. >Luna's attention shifts to the nervous bellhop, who's been staring at the corner in silence since you entered the elevator.
  792. >>"Bellhop."
  793. >He nearly hits the ceiling in shock.
  794. >>"I suppose that answers my question, but I've put you ill at ease due to my presence, correct?"
  795. >*"N-no, of course not, princess!"
  796. >>"You are free to be honest with me, face me and speak your mind earnestly."
  797. >He manages to turn around, but is still unwilling to look Luna in the eye.
  798. >*"I, well... I might be a little scared, I gue-"
  799. >Colgate immediately puts a hoof around him.
  800. >"No need to be a scaredy-colt, Luna looks really serious all the time but she's totally super sweet and friendly!"
  801. >Luna gives off just the slightest blush in response.
  802. >*"Really?"
  803. >"You bet, I know she'll want to be your friend, too."
  804. >*"So, you're both friends of hers?"
  805. >"Sure are, we met on the way here but we became fast friends, that's just how nice she is!"
  806. >*"That's a relief to hear, sorry for being scared of you, princess."
  807. >>"Worry not, I am glad you are able to see past my 'serious' disposition."
  808. >Bellhop loosens up and cracks a smile.
  809. >"So hey, how high are we going, anyways?"
  810. >*"Just before the very top, floor 59."
  811. "This place really is big."
  812. >"Whoa, we might be able to see the whole city from up there!"
  813. >*"You certainly can from the very top, your room is the only one with access to the rooftop terrace."
  814. >Her eyes begin to sparkle.
  815. >Already you feel a shiver down your spine at the thought of Colgate on the rooftop of a 60-story building.
  816. >The elevator dings, and finally comes to a halt.
  817. >*"Here we are, floor 59."
  818. >As the elevator opens, Bellhop exits first and readies another key to open the sole door in the hallway.
  819. >"I can't wait to see what our room looks like, maybe it'll blow everything we've seen out of the water. "
  820. >>"We shall see."
  821. >It's clear she's not been a fan of the extravagance on display so far.
  822. >Hopefully it isn't egregiously showy, for her sake.
  823. >Bellhop opens the door, beckoning everyone inside.
  824.
  825. "I can't say I was expecting this."
  826. >"You're telling me..."
  827. >The room was impressive, but in a way distinct from the rest of the exorbitance you've seen.
  828. >The navy blue chosen for the flooring and wallpaper perfectly matched Luna's coat color.
  829. >The only pieces of furniture were three large beds with canopies overhead, a sizeable lamp in the shape of a crescent moon, and a wooden desk in the corner.
  830. >Large, black drapes cover the arched windows, the sunlight barely managing to shine through.
  831. >A picture of Celestia and Luna posing for a picture, along with some star-shaped nightlights, are the sole decoration on the wall, with a few more dimly lit moon shaped lights hanging from the ceiling.
  832. >A fireplace across from the beds is kindling, crackling with intensity.
  833. >It was somehow well-lit despite the dark accents present throughout.
  834. >Overall, though rather spacious, the room itself was surprisingly simple and lacking the ornate finery of the rest of the hotel.
  835. >*"I hope you aren't disappointed in how plain it looks compared to everything else, we were told to prepare it this way by that secretary pony."
  836. >>"On the contrary, I feel relieved!"
  837. >*"You are, princess?"
  838. >>" I was expecting yet more superfluous furnishings to dominate the room, this is perfect."
  839. >"Ah... I feel all warm inside in here, it's so comfy."
  840. >She throws herself on the nearest bed, and bounces right off.
  841. >"Haha, now that's what I'm talking about!"
  842. >There she goes again, jumping like a little filly in a bounce house.
  843. >"Whee! It's so springy!"
  844. >She's having so much fun, you're half tempted to join her.
  845. >*"Oh, please wait, I almost forgot!"
  846. >Colgate leaps right off the bed and somersaults right back to where she was standing before.
  847. >"What's up?"
  848. >*"A package was left on one of the beds for the princess, the secretary said it was important."
  849. >>"A package? For me?"
  850. >Looking at the beds, there really is a box on the bed Colgate was just jumping on, hidden behind the canopy's drape.
  851. >"Oh, that was a close one, good thing you told me in time."
  852. >>"What could be in this?"
  853. >>"I suppose I should open this later, but I must admit I'm brimming with curiosity."
  854. >After some thought, Luna levitates the package and starts to unwraps it.
  855.
  856. >>"I wonder who could have left a package for me."
  857. >*"I should wait outside while you open it, I'd be violating customer privacy and all that otherwise."
  858. >He leaves the room, closing the door behind him.
  859. "Should we get out too?"
  860. >>"No need, I have no issue with sharing whatever has been sent, let us see what is inside together."
  861. >Before you're able to crowd around the package, Luna lets out an audible gasp.
  862. >>"No, it can't be..."
  863. >She backs away from the box while you and Colgate peer inside.
  864. >"Aww! What a cutie!"
  865. >Inside is an adorable white rabbit plush, wearing a moon insignia with a miniature crown on its head.
  866. >>"But how... why is he here?"
  867. "Is it yours, Luna?"
  868. >>"W-well, I suppose... that is to say..."
  869. >Evidently belonging to her, Luna's face is flushed in embarrassment.
  870. >She mutters under her breath.
  871. >>"I told you I didn't need him..."
  872. >Colgate pulls the plush out from the box and gives him a warm hug.
  873. >"He's so soft, and so cute!"
  874. >She walks over to Luna, stretching out the plush's arms to give the appearance of wanting to give a hug.
  875. >"Look, he's so happy to see you!"
  876. >Luna resumes blushing heavily.
  877. >>"I'm sure he is, but the feeling isn't mutual."
  878. >Luna looks away, fighting her desire to scoop the plushie in a loving embrace.
  879. "Check it out, he's holding something between his paws."
  880. >"Oh hey, you're right, he's got an envelope."
  881. >Back in focus, Luna takes the envelope out of the plushie's clutches.
  882. >Opening the envelope, Luna pulls out a letter with incredibly beautiful penmanship.
  883. >>"As I expected."
  884. "Do you know who it's from?"
  885. >>"My sister, I'd recognize this style anywhere, her hoofwriting is the finest in all the land."
  886. >"That's sweet of her to send your plushie to you, and with a written note, too."
  887. >>"Yes, I am aware she had good intentions, but-"
  888. >As she's about to continue, she sighs and gives up on whatever she was about to say.
  889. >>"Sister, you truly are a wonder."
  890. >She turns to face the two of you.
  891. >>"Would you like to know what she wrote? I do not mind reading it aloud."
  892. >"Yes please!"
  893. >As you're about to decline out of politeness, your own curiosity about what Celestia might have written gets the better of you.
  894. "If you wouldn't mind."
  895. >>"Very well, then I shall read her letter aloud."
  896.
  897. >>"My dear sister, I apologize once again for placing the burden of this sudden trip upon you, but I'm afraid the situation in the Crystal Empire was too dire for anypony but myself to attend to. On the bright side, you can view this as an opportunity to venture beyond the confines of Canterlot for a few days. I know a bustling city would not have been your first choice for an excursion, but I attempted to make your stay a streamlined process so you wouldn't feel overwhelmed from being in a city as vibrant as Baltimare. The matter with the delegates should be a simple task, as such I hope you will have more than enough time to explore the city and what it has to offer. Baltimare may seem to be entirely modern, but there are plenty of areas hidden from sight that are perfect for resting and taking in the scenery, you just have to find them. Horseshoe Bay is truly the crown jewel of the area, there are numerous activities to partake in that can't be done anywhere else, and the waters are always beautiful to behold. I kept in mind your preference for minimalist decor, as such I had asked for the hotel staff to 'restrain' themselves from their usual tendency to overdecorate, hopefully what they selected for your room was sufficiently modest. Believe me, I'm well aware of how carried away the ponies can be when it comes to making an impression, their eagerness to please certainly sets them apart from the ponies of other cities. Before I forget, I hope you were able to befriend the passengers who joined you in your cabin, otherwise you might be puzzled as to why there are three beds for just yourself. I instructed an acquaintance of mine to deliver those tickets under the guise of being unable to embark on the trip. I have observed the two of them for some time now, and believe you will all forge a tightknit friendship. I have a feeling that together, the three of you will truly be able to enjoy you time in Baltimare. Don't miss out on any opportunity to create lasting memories, and make the most of your time there. Well, I wish I had more time to write, but I'm afraid duty calls, a princess is always busy. Please take good care of yourself, you're always in my thoughts, and I eagerly await the tales of your adventure once we reunite."
  898. >>"All my love, Celestia."
  899. >>"P.S. It seems you neglected to bring Lunaris along with you. I am keenly aware you said you had no need of him, but I was concerned you might have trouble sleeping without him and asked Raven to make sure he was packed safely, just in case. May he bring you a restful night's sleep."
  900.
  901. >>"My sister can be such a worrywart."
  902. >She gently folds the letter and places it back in the envelope.
  903. >>"She still insists on treating me like a filly, we are over a thousand years old and still she feels the need to dote over me."
  904. >Though she speaks with an annoyed tone, it's clear she's touched if her subtle smile is anything to go by.
  905. >Meanwhile, Colgate has the goofiest grin on her face.
  906. >"Ha! What'd I tell you, Anon? It really was fate, we were meant to be friends after all!"
  907. >Luna looks at the two of you with a puzzled expression.
  908. "Oh, Colgate had a feeling we might have been destined to meet back on the train."
  909. >"You heard the letter, the princess said we'd 'form a tight kinship' or whatever, and we did!"
  910. >>"She certainly has a way of knowing what is best for ponies, her prescience is truly a marvel."
  911. "You think maybe she sent you here for more than just the meeting?"
  912. >"Oh, like to take a break from her duties?"
  913. >Luna sits on the bed and ponders the contents of the letter.
  914. >>"It... is curious that she sent me when she could have simply postponed the meeting instead, from what I heard nothing seemed particularly urgent about the situation.
  915. >>"Not to mention, most of her letter was focused on touring Baltimare and seeing the sights."
  916. "Don't forget the mayor saying he'd try and keep the meeting brief so you could explore the city, almost like that was his real concern."
  917. >"*gasp* Maybe your real mission is to unwind and have fun!"
  918. "Actually, Colgate might have a point, the more I think about it the more it sounds like that's what your sister really wanted."
  919. >>"Could it be? It is true I felt discontent recently, I never mentioned it but I have no doubt she was able to ascertain how I truly felt."
  920. "That cinches it, sounds like what she felt you needed most of all was a break from Canterlot."
  921. >"And I needed that too, which is why we got the tickets!"
  922. ""I guess I needed to get out from there too, Canterlot is all I've known since I got here, I never bothered to go anywhere else."
  923. >"It's like she knew we all really needed this trip, she's so amazing!
  924. >>"Embarking me on a task under the guise of diplomacy, when her true objective was to better my socialization..."
  925. >She laughs and looks at the two of you with a pleasant smile.
  926. >>"That does sound like something she would do, as I recall she did something similar with Twilight Sparkle."
  927. >"Now that was a real success story, Twilight wasn't a bad friend but I couldn't believe how different she was when she came back to see us, and I don't just mean the wings!"
  928. >A knock at the door interrupts your chat.
  929. >*"I'm real sorry to interrupt, but I think the mayor is still waiting outside for the princess."
  930.
  931. >>"Thank you, Bellhop, I had nearly forgotten."
  932. >>"I wish we could continue conversing like this, but I really must be on my way to the meeting, minor or not I still believe it is a pressing matter."
  933. "No problem, we'll meet up with you later."
  934. >"Wait, before you go, what's the story behind Lunaris here?"
  935. >Luna turns to see Colgate holding him once again.
  936. >>"It is nothing more than a silly toy I used to sleep with, that is all."
  937. >It's clear by her expression Colgate doesn't buy it.
  938. >"You sure? I get the feeling there's more to it than that, are you embarrassed about him?"
  939. >>"Of course not, but I had not slept with him since... well it does not matter, the point is I no longer have need of him."
  940. >"Aww, poor bunny, and he came all this way just to see you."
  941. >She squeezes the bunny tightly, carefully eyeing Luna for a reaction.
  942. >"I just can't get over how soft he is, if you really don't want him I can take-"
  943. >>"NO! I mean, do not trouble yourself with him, just place him on my bed, please."
  944. >"You're gonna cuddle him later, right? Just look at him, he's just asking for a biiiiig ol' hug!"
  945. >>"W-well, my sister did go through the trouble to send him for my sake, I suppose the least I can do is make use of him."
  946. >"Yay! You heard her, Lunaris, look forward to it!"
  947. >She gives him one last squeeze before setting him on the bed.
  948. >>"If that is all, I shall be on my way."
  949. "Sorry, there actually is one more thing, how will we know when you're done?"
  950. >>"Oh yes, I suppose I hadn't considered that."
  951. "We might not still be at the bay by the time you're finished, we could meet you outside city hall but we'd need a signal."
  952. >You'd also have to find city hall first, but maybe Bellhop has a map you could use.
  953. >>"I could use the Royal Canterlot Voice, but the city is quite large and noisy already, even it may not be able to reach you."
  954. >"You should raise the moon and cause an eclipse! That'd be so funny, everypony would be freaking out!"
  955. >Luna laughs at her suggestion.
  956. >>"I see the two of you share a similar sense of humor, as amusing as that would be I fear the chaos it would cause would not be worth it."
  957. "How about just emitting a bright light? That should get our attention easy enough."
  958. >>"A fine idea, even during the daytime my magic should be distinct enough to make out."
  959. "That settles it, we'll catch you later."
  960. >>"I look forward to reuniting later on. Goodbye, my friends."
  961. >"Bye, Luna!"
  962. She exits the room, leaving you to unpack and ready yourself for Horseshoe Bay.
  963.
  964. >"I hope Luna won't be stuck at that meeting too long."
  965. "Me too, but I don't know how long these kinds of meetings usually take."
  966. >"Canterlot meetings can take a few hours, but since there are rarely any actual problems that need to be sorted out, the officials spend most of the time just talking about themselves."
  967. "Really? How do you know that?"
  968. >"One of my clients notes down the meetings held at the palace, she says most of it is pure fluff and ego stroking, and reeeeeally boring."
  969. >You wonder if such a thing is even allowed to be shared, but it probably wasn't a big deal here.
  970. "Sure sounds like it, poor Luna is probably stuck joining a bunch of those, now she's got another one to deal with here."
  971. >"Maybe Baltimare is different, the ponies here seem more down to earth than in Canterlot."
  972. "That's true, no one had as bad of a reaction to me here, it was kinda nice."
  973. >Colgate smiles, then turns her attention again to Luna's plush toy.
  974. >She seemed to be a big fan of plushies, though she didn't own any herself.
  975. >"I hope I didn't push her too hard with Lunaris here, but I just can't imagine why she feels so embarrassed over having a cute plushie."
  976. "Not exactly something you'd expect a pony in her position to have, is it?"
  977. >"I don't think anyone would look down on her just for having a plushie, lots of ponies have one, they're cute and perfect when you want to give something a hug."
  978. "I'm a bit surprised you don't have one, actually."
  979. >Without warning, she envelopes you in another of her signature hugs.
  980. >"That's because I've got you around!"
  981. >You sigh, and proceed to return the favor.
  982. >She really was something else.
  983. >"I'm so glad you came with me, it really wouldn't be the same without you."
  984. >The two of you were basically inseparable at this point.
  985. >It was difficult to imagine spending a day without her, with how much life she breathes into your own.
  986. >In all honesty, it was difficult to remember your life before Colgate was a part of it.
  987. "Me too, now let's finish up here and go see Horseshoe Bay, I'm dying to see it now."
  988. >"I hear ya loud and clear!"
  989. >You resume carefully sorting everything out, while Colgate tries her best not to throw things around again.
  990.
  991. >"Wow, I don't remember packing this much stuff before we left."
  992. >Nearly everything is neatly unpacked now, clothes, bags, and the absurd amount of toothpaste and mouthwash you brought at Colgate's insistence.
  993. >If nothing else, at least your teeth would be in great shape.
  994. "Always good to be prepared, this all would have come in handy if we ended up without a place to stay, like we almost did."
  995. >*"You guys weren't originally going to stay here?"
  996. >Bellhop had entered the room, bringing along some additional luggage belonging to Luna.
  997. "Nope, we didn't have a hotel booked, if you can believe it."
  998. >*"You'd better count your blessings then, I think the whole city is clean out of rooms available, what with that one concert going on tonight."
  999. >Colgate's ears perked up.
1000. >"Oh hey, that's right! I totally forgot Vinyl was playing tonight!"
1001. "Man, it really WAS going to be hard finding a place after all."
1002. >It never hurt to be overly cautious when on a trip, better to have plenty to spare than not enough.
1003. >Colgate was happy to help pack, or rather, provide some encouraging words while you did all the packing, but she felt it was silly to bring so much for a three day trip.
1004. >So much that didn't include copious amounts of dental products, that is.
1005. >It was for the best, though, if the worst had come to pass.
1006. >After all, if a literal princess hadn't given you a get out of jail free card, you'd be worried your supplies wouldn't last a day on the streets.
1007. >"I can't believe booking a room totally slipped my mind, that was pretty scatterbrained of me, huh?"
1008. "I should have planned for that and called ahead on my own, guess I was just too excited about the train to think about our plans once we actually got here."
1009. >"Could you imagine sleeping outdoors for three days while we were here, though? It'd be like we were camping!"
1010. "I'd rather not, falling asleep outside once was enough, and my back is still killing me from sleeping on the ground."
1011. >"Aww, but you looked so cozy when we were out there, with your arms behind your head and all."
1012. "No thanks, I'll pick a nice warm room any day over wet and itchy grass."
  1013. >"Alright, point taken."
1014. >With the last of the toothpaste cleared out of your luggage, your things were all set.
1015. >"Woohoo, done and done, now let's get going so we can get to the water!"
1016. "Can I at least take a shower before we rush out? "
1017. >"Oh come on, we're gonna get wet anyways, why not shower after we're done?"
1018. "Just one quick little rinse?"
1019. >"Anon, we both know Luna will have raised the moon by the time you finish, we can't risk ponies taking our spot at the bay!"
1020. >She had a point, at least on the shower thing, you were ashamed to admit that time seemed to blur the moment you stepped into the shower.
1021. >*"I wouldn't worry about that, nopony's cra- er, brave enough to head in there this time of year."
1022. >You swear you heard him mutter "or any time of year" under his breath.
1023. >"Okay then, but pleeeease keep it under an hour this time?"
1024. >You glare at her, while she teasingly winks back.
1025. >She had a reason for saying it like that, but it was still embarrassing.
  1026.
1027. >"I'll get our things ready in a bag while you shower, let's see who finishes first."
1028. >You weren't expecting her to actually let you shower, but you take the proposed contest as permission to go ahead.
1029. "Won't be much of a challenge, Luna will be done with her meeting by the time you manage to pack what we need."
1030. >"You're forgetting one thing, Anon, I have help."
1031. >She gives an expectant glance towards Bellhop, who quickly nods in response.
  1032. "Alright then, you're on."
1033. >You grab a change of clothes and a towel, and head to the adjacent door.
1034. >"Don't forget your toothbrush and toothpaste, might as well brush your teeth while you're in there, right?"
1035. >She's not very subtle about trying to delay you, but you figure you might as well, teeth hygiene is important.
1036. >It's something she would have made you do, anyways.
1037. "Good point, mind passing them over?"
1038. >She hands you a special toothbrush she had specially customized for you and a tube of toothpaste.
1039. "Thanks, I won't be long this time, I swear."
  1040. >"Remember, under an hour!"
1041. >She just can't let go the one time you practically fell asleep in the tub after a particularly late shift at Joe's.
1042. >Alright, so you tended to take long showers anyways, but it was probably that one shower she was thinking about.
1043. >That smug expression of hers is just cute enough to let her 'reminder' slide.
1044. >You grumble back a halfhearted response and make your way inside.
1045. >Turning on the light reveals a modestly sized bathroom with tasteful simplicity found inside.
1046. >The room is tinged in a mellow light that gives everything a yellowy look.
1047. >Aside from the usual bathroom essentials, the only remarkable feature is the porcelain bathtub, which is quite large and has a beautiful beige color.
1048. >Its size makes sense, seeing as this suite was designed for the larger than average Celestia.
1049. >It looks like it would comfortably fit you if you decided to lay in it, which is currently a rarity in Equestria.
1050. >Since the arrival of humans is still relatively recent, progress has been sluggish in adapting things for human use.
1051. >The unintended accommodation for your size was appreciated, the low shower head at home normally forced you to crouch since the tub was so small.
1052. >You smile to yourself, being able to properly stand during a shower is a nice change of pace.
1053. >Looking into the tub, you notice the valves are shaped in the form of the sun and a crescent moon.
1054. >The tub also has one of those non-skid mats in it, this one designed to resemble Equestria's flag.
1055. >Even the little shampoo and conditioner bottles on the side were shaped into the ever-present celestial figures.
1056. >Seems like somepony sure was patriotic.
1057. >You figure you've done enough admiring of the bathroom for now and prepare to engage in a much needed shower.
  1058.
1059. >Time really did seem to melt away during a hot shower, the water was just the relief your body needed.
1060. >It was quite relaxing, for a moment you nearly dozed off yet again.
1061. >Luckily, Colgate was present to lend a helpful reminder.
1062. >"Hey Anon, you almost done?!"
1063. >Her sudden outburst snaps you back into reality.
  1064. "Yeah, just a sec!"
1065. >"Don't forget to brush your teeth!"
  1066. "Will do!"
  1067. >Sounds like she's already finished packing.
1068. >Or rather, sounds like Bellhop has already finished packing.
1069. >At least this defeat gives you plenty of time for proper brushing.
1070. >After getting clothed and giving your teeth the care they deserved, you exit the bathroom, feeling refreshed and ready for anything.
1071. >You see Bellhop cleaning up some items littered about, presumably from Colgate's attempt to help.
1072. >"Wow Anon, that really was fast!"
1073. >If she weren't such a genuine soul you'd think she was being sarcastic from the way she said it.
1074. "I'm a man of my word, looks like you beat me though."
1075. >"Of course, Bellhop and I did a great job!"
1076. >You look toward him knowingly, understanding his efforts, and he simply smiles in response.
1077. "Nice work then, I'll buy you a treat as a prize later."
1078. >"Victory treat, wooo! Hey Bellhop, any recommendations on some good snacks?"
1079. >*"Sure do, you've probably noticed some vendors selling treats on the streets, right?"
1080. >"Yeah, there were a bunch of stands with long lines, what were they selling?"
1081. >*"Those would be berger cookies, chocolate covered goodness and our most famous dessert."
1082. >Colgate excitedly stomps her hooves in place.
1083. >"Oh my gosh, I LOVE chocolate, this is the greatest!"
1084. >*"They're pretty popular, even among us locals, so I'd recommend buying some early while they still have some available.
1085. >"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go go GO!"
