>"Let me tell you a wonderful story, passed down the generations."
-
>The old man takes in a raspy breath.
-
>"Passed down from father to son longer than any of us can remember. A story about adventure, intrigue, danger...magic."
-
>Leaves blow past him as he coughs violently
-
>Into his hand.
-
>"A story about the portal to Equestria."
-
>The old man leans forward, spitting out a tooth
-
>onto the ground
-
>"I don't understand."
-
>Be Anon
-
>Be Anon walking on the outskirts of town for fresh air when you stumble upon this old man.
-
>He completely ignored all of your words almost like you weren't there.
-
"I don't understand."
-
>The old man laughs.
-
>"It will all make sense soon enough."
-
>The old man grabs his old walking cane that sat lazily against the tree.
-
>He pushes himself off the ground and >manages to stand on shaky legs. A few times >he looked like he was in danger of falling but didn't.
-
>"Follow me, destiny awaits, the story shall be passed down."
-
>You scratch your head and question whether or not to follow him.
-
>He seemed crazy, but something about him made you curious.
-
>Even if he was crazy, it would be a helluva story to tell others.
-
>"Are you coming?"
-
>You notice you'd just been standing there for who knows how long, the old man not even turning to ask this.
-
"Sure. Yeah."
-
>You don't know why you're so compelled to follow him but you do, deeper into the forest.
-
>You don't know how long you followed this old man.
-
>You had questioned him for who knows how long but he didn't even grunt in response.
-
>Along the way you noticed it started to rain, as it did you felt as though the rain was off.
-
>Unnatural, that was the best way you could describe it.
-
>you find yourself having caught up to the old man, standing at the edge of a small slope.
-
>He turned to you and finally spoke, breaking his temporary vow of silence.
-
>"I could use some help getting down, these old bones make travel hard."
-
>You weren't paying much attention to what he said as you stared down the slope.
-
>You saw a kind of swamp pool, a single person standing there staring at part of a tree.
-
>A boat was sunk below as well with what looked like a skeleton in it.
-
>and a mausoleum? Why is there a mausoleum out here? Deep in the forest.
-
>Suddenly a pain shot up your leg from your shin.
-
>The old man just hit you with his cane.
-
>"It's rude to ignore the elderly."
-
>Motherfucker
-
>You grumble about him getting his dues as he repeats his words.
-
>You pick him up and essentially slide down the small slope on your ass.
-
>You set the old man down, he's got a creepy smile on his face. It disappears after a brief moment though.
-
>"Follow me now, from here on out I shall share my story, listen closely for it may save your life."
-
>Skepticism flows through you as you tentatively follow the old man into the waters.
-
>That shit was cold, you were shivering and your knees weren't even completely wet.
-
>The old man passes the man who just stood there but you found curiosity got the better of you.
-
>You came up next to the man and saw him muttering unintelligibly and shaking.
-
>He was carving something into the wood with his fingernails.
-
>You took a few steps back in surprise when you saw that not only was he carving the wood with his fingers but his hands were completely covered in blood.
-
>The old man pulled you by the shoulder, dragging you away as you let out a yelp.
-
>"Stay away, he is not to be disturbed, he has been carving here since the first of my family guarded this portal, disturbing him means absolute death."
-
>With a surprising show of strength for his age, the old man pulled you along towards the mausoleum despite your attempts at struggling out of his grip.
-
>"Now listen already you little shit, you are going to want to hear this."
-
>The old man coughed towards the ground away from you. You noticed he spit out some blood if the red splotch floating on the surface was any indication.
-
>The old man pushed you in front of him, leaving you face to face with the door of the mausoleum.
-
>"Travelers of times past have come to this place searching for things beyond themselves in hopes of answering questions they've never found answers to."
-
>You turn around and back up into the door when you see the old man's staff pointing dangerously close to your eyes.
-
>"As long as travelers have searched my family has guarded, a single one of us serving most of our lives here in solitude."
-
>He pulled his staff away and moved to the wall next to the mausoleum.
-
>"These travelers all met horrible fates, only two have ever gotten past our family and through the portal."
-
>The old man laid his hand on a circular lump next to the door and twisted it.
-
>The doors began to open, forcing you to step forward and stand up fully.
-
>"Enter as I recount the tales."
-
>You look towards the opening door and back to the old man with a few questions on your mind as well as a deep urge to just walk away.
-
"So, does this mean you're my father or something?"
-
>A thwack resounded as the old man hit you on the head.
-
>You grabbed at your head and grit your teeth.
-
"Ow. fucking asshole."
-
>Another thwack to the side with less force.
-
>"Don't be stupid, if I had a son you would never be him. Now get moving and let me speak."
-
<You grumbled as you started to walk away, fuck this guy.
-
>Your collar got caught on something and in seconds you found yourself on the ground in a daze.
-
>"I said enter."
-
>You shook your head and raised it, you saw the doors close behind you, the old man standing there with a scowl on his face.
-
>"You need to listen more."
-
>You scowl back at the crazy old man before you took notice that the door of the mausoleum looked built into a tree.
-
>You looked around even more and noticed it definitely wasn't the inside of a mausoleum.
-
>You were on a thin path of stone path that was seriously thin and lead towards a set of ancient stone stairs that turned into miscellaneous stones that sunk into the water at one point.
-
>It turned into a small dirt path briefly before turning into a wooden dock that lead to-
-
>Well holy shit it really is a portal. The old man isn't bat shit insane.
-
>You're left speechless as your mind races at this sudden epiphany.
-
>Behind you the old man chuckles before basically picking you up by the shirt and helping you stand up.
-
>You felt completely lost for words as the old man passed you, leaving you with the intent to follow.
-
>"recent events showed me I'm no longer guardian material, I haven't been for a long time now."
-
>The old man starts slowly climbing the stairs, you trailing in his wake, absorbing everything he has to say while focusing on the single thought of Equestria.
-
>"I had many close calls in the last recent years despite there being nearly none to have discovered this place, fewer than there ever had been in fact."
-
>He started along the path around and down the steps, his knees shaking and his voice continually becoming more ragged.
-
>"With this came the need to find a solution to the problem of what happens after I die. I don't want to be the one to fuck up everything after all."
-
>You nearly trip on your way down the ancient stone steps as a piece crumbles.
-
>You caught yourself as the old man made it to the bottom, leaning on his staff and coughing violently. You saw him spit up another tooth as he stood there for a moment, collecting himself.
-
>"I figured the first person to find me would have to do seeing as I have so short a time limit. You have been chosen to go to Equestria, learn their ways and assimilate into their society as you see fit."
-
>The old man lead you through the rest of the path, walking you up the dock.
-
>"The portal is only always open on this side, on the other it opens at the same spot once every five years. Should you fail then you shall return to take my place as the next guardian, should you succeed in assimilating then perhaps you may lead Equestria and Earth to a future relation, what do you say?"
-
>That’s a good question. What do you say?
-
>Do you really want to give up everyone you know? Your friends, your family, your job?”
-
>Well actually fuck that job, janitorial work sucks
-
“I’m not entirely sure I want to go, I mean-”
-
>Thwack
-
>The old man just hit you in the back with his staff again, forcing you forward to fall into the portal.
-
>You manage to scream out one final thing to the old man before you lose consciousness
-
“Fuck you!”
-
-
>You woke up some time later, your back slightly damp.
-
>The sounds of bugs buzzing about, frogs croaking, birds chirping filled your ears as you cracked your eyes open.
-
>You heard the sound of creaking wood and saw a tree leaning dangerously towards you.
-
>In reaction you sat up and moved forwards, attempting to get up.
-
>You slipped on the mud and found yourself face down on the ground as a loud crash of wood into soft mud came from behind you.
-
>You looked back to see the tree had fallen where you were laying. Holy shit your heart pounded a million miles an hour at that sight and the sinking feeling that came with it.
-
“Holy shit.”
-
>You couldn't help saying it aloud, you were absolutely dumbstruck.
-
>After a minute of sitting there in surprise, covered in more mud than the mud monster, you finally come down from your adrenaline high.
-
>You stand up and start trying to rub as much of the mud off of you as you look around.
-
>A huge river sat next to where you were unconscious, a large amount of puddles seemed to be everywhere.
-
>A dense fog made it hard to see past what you guessed to be thirty feet and you thought to yourself at what you should do next.
-
>With nothing to go on but what you see you decide to walk towards where you believe the forest/swamp place was thickest.
-
>Perhaps you’d be able to stumble across something to eat? Or maybe you’d just get yourself killed.
-
>Get yourself killed.
-
>The thought crossed your mind and sent you back to that tree as well as the old man pushing you through the portal.
-
>It made you angry, you should have realized with how often he hit you in the short time you knew him he’d do something like that.
-
>You shook your head and continued to wander on, pondering the question of how you’d interact with the locals, how they’d act when they saw you, and wondering if you’d die before you even saw a single pony.
-
>After walking for about half an hour you noticed the fog started to lift, the trees were slowly becoming thicker, the ground drying and filling with more grass.
-
>Wait, what’s that up ahead?
-
>You walked on and as you squinted your eyes you realized it looked like a dirt road. But is it?
-
>You started jogging towards it and in no time you found that, indeed it was a dirt road, you knelt down and looked it over, smiling at your luck.
-
>But which way would you go?
-
>With nothing to go on you decide to pick the way of your ancestors
-
“Eenie meenie miney that way.”
-
>You started on the path left thanks to your wise ways with decision making. You grin to yourself and stride forward with confidence.
-
>After about another amount of time of nothing but forest you see something, the path lead through a tree by the looks of it and there was lanterns sitting out.
-
>Coming closer You notice the lanterns were lit as well, not that they needed to in the day.
-
>Light streamed through the thick branches and leaves of the trees clustered around the path, leaving the road to almost seem to shine, you found yourself at a loss for words at how beautiful it looked.
-
>You don’t know how much time you spent standing there, enjoying the look of the place, but it was long enough.
-
>You spotted a small monkey, probably barely bigger than your head, you watched it slowly climb down the tree, watching you carefully as it did so.
-
>the little monkey climbed down to the ground after what seemed like no time at all, it had a small apple in it’s mouth.
-
>You heard your stomach grumble and it seemed to startle the little monkey into dropping the apple.
-
>You knelt down and tried to call the little guy over like you’d do for a cat, but for the longest time the monkey looked like it was about to dart off at any second.
-
>After giving up you sigh and start to stand back up, the monkey was in your path, it’ll move when you get too close, maybe even forget the apple giving you something to eat.
-
>You nod to yourself and start walking again, the monkey’s eyes grow wide and it grabs at the apple and runs up the tree, scurrying in a way that reminds you of a squirrel.
-
>You shake your head past the stone lanterns, failing to notice the change in color when you pass.
-
>With the monkey forgotten and the continuation of your journey you climb up the steps and walk on through the path created through the tree.
-
>You hear the movement of the monkey following behind you and ignore it, opting to continuing down the path.
-
>You look around at the landscape and notice it gained a sort of eerie look to it.
-
>A sort of fear wells up in you, urging you to move faster and so you do.
-
>Behind you, you saw the monkey practically dashing towards you, almost like he was running from something...
-
>...
-
>You look back towards the path and finally notice the lanterns changed color.
-
>But that wasn't what surprised you the most, it was what was between the lanterns that made you nearly shit yourself
-
>A giant freaking worm made of wood, that was the best way you could describe it.
-
>It looked like it was made of twigs as it looked around.
-
>that is until it saw you and the monkey running to catch up with you.
-
>The giant wood worm monster made a sort of hissing roar towards you as you glanced at it.
-
>Your eyes wide you did the first thing that came naturally to you.
-
>You ran as fast as you could.
-
>Behind you, the sound of wood behind torn apart and the sound of a falling tree was clear as you felt the little monkey’s hands grasping on your back.
-
“Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, holy fucking shit.”
-
>You couldn’t help but repeating the one thing on your mind as you heard the sound of wood hitting stone coming up fast behind you.
-
>You turned off the road and past a thick tree, behind you you heard more wood hitting wood and that same roaring hiss only seconds after you did so.
-
>Oh fuck did you piss it off?
-
>You dared a look back to see the wood worm rip apart the tree as it passed it.
-
>You looked back to where you were running, your blood running colder than ice and your feet moving as fast as possible.
-
>You regret not having your lighter today of all days.
-
>You start weaving through the trees in an attempt to slow down the monster but it doesn’t seem to work as you hear more of the tree tearing.
-
>You feel yourself already getting tired as you see something up ahead.
-
>A cliff
-
>...
-
>You look left and right for any way to get out of this without being horribly ripped apart by a giant worm made of sticks but it seems there was no way.
-
>there was definitely not enough distance between you and it to veer off a straight path, and the creature will catch up to you by the time you make it to the cliff.
-
>Fuck.
-
>It was a nice life, you hate yourself internally for fucking it up and not being more active
-
>you start going into an inner monologue, telling yourself about all your regrets as the cliff comes into focus.
-
>You break yourself of your monologue of regret long enough to give yourself at least the false sense of choice.
-
>Do you jump off the cliff blindly or face the creature in some blind hope it won’t horribly maim you?
-
>...
-
>Fuck it, off the cliff it is, at least then you could get lucky enough to die quickly.
-
>The cliff comes up and you feel as if the creature was right behind you, about to bite you.
-
>You jump.
-
>You let out a scream of panic as you felt the wind hit you, you barely manage to register a river on your descent before you closed your eyes and screamed out at how stupid of an idea it was.
-
>Even though it was your best one
-
>You stopped yelling seconds later when you found yourself underwater, you opened you eyes and swam up as you instinctively tried gasping for air.
-
>You break through the top of the water and swallow a gulp of air when you noticed something was still clinging to your back.
-
>In your panic you immediately move your hands behind you and grab at it, it held on for dear life as you pulled and pulled.
-
>It finally gave it’s grip up when you pulled hard enough after about a minute of the rinse and repeat.
-
>The monkey?”
-
>The poor thing was shaking in fear and grasping at your arms as if you’d somehow protect it.
-
>...
-
>You kinda did actually.
-
>You think to yourself about what to do now as you look back up while swimming towards the other side of the river.
-
>You don’t see the wood worm anymore thankfully. But that could be potentially bad news.
-
>Fuck it, your prime concern now was getting something to eat and getting out of this forest.
-
>You start climbing onto shore, feeling the fatigue hit your bones in full force now that your adrenaline high started to go down.
-
>You collapsed onto your knees and turned to fall onto your back.
-
>The cold mud was rather comfortable after the whole ordeal, the soft breeze cooling your skin, the wet clothes that clung to you.
-
>Well okay maybe not the wet clothes.
-
> You begin pondering your next thing to do once you are up and about, should you look for food, try to find a way out of here or perhaps something else? You were rather impartial at the moment.
