-
From the pinnacle of these ranges
-
I gaze in quiet contemplation,
-
At this frigid land I dare call home.
-
With moments of pain and joy intermixed,
-
The tundra's story, I alone can tell.
-
-
Time abounds for an eternal being,
-
A constant river that flows without end,
-
But for the transient ponies far below,
-
The passage of time is unrelenting,
-
And cruel and unfeeling in what it claims.
-
-
The wayward tundra is one without mercy,
-
Devoid of compassion for life in its midst,
-
An unbound cruelty uncertain to end.
-
Many lives have been lost and forgotten,
-
Many tears I have shed in memoriam.
-
-
This immortal cycle I have watched nonstop.
-
This familiar vision throughout the ages.
-
These destitute wastelands show without pause
-
That even those free of strife will know loss,
-
And all for one lone, infinite witness.
-
-
Spring unearths verdant meadows.
-
Summer thaws azure waters.
-
Fall delivers a warning.
-
Winter comes to destroy.
-
A sight I have witnessed time and time again.
-
-
The sensation of loss is never dulled.
-
To watch young foals mature and thrive
-
Then witness the fleeting life in their eyes,
-
Is a pain that is never diminished,
-
But such is my fate, for now and always.
-
-
And yet despite this forlorn outlook
-
There exists a luminescent light.
-
The fervor of the ponies down below,
-
The sincerity of their warm kindness,
-
And their abounding love for all of life.
-
-
Through perilous blizzards and thrashing winds,
-
Through countless trials and tribulations,
-
Through sudden losses of life and love,
-
The ponies endure with camaraderie,
-
Unmatched anywhere throughout all the lands.
-
-
Living joyously, and in harmony,
-
The ponies have always prospered and grown.
-
Their shared passion and jubilance
-
Shakes even my stoic countenance,
-
And inspires hope in this barren world.
-
-
Belief in each other and in themselves,
-
The vigor of life courses within them,
-
Challenging any problem without fear.
-
Against arduous perils, they stay united,
-
supporting their kin through thick and thin.
-
-
And though I lament those departed souls
-
Whose ephemeral lives were gone too soon,
-
The pain is nulled upon reflection
-
That lost souls will never be forgotten,
-
For they will always be among the stars.
-
-
And so I gaze atop these peaks
-
To watch for all their sakes and more.
-
To be their aegis in times of struggle.
-
To be their guide in moments of doubt.
-
To be their light in times of peace.
-
For these precious ponies, I shall be here.
-
Forevermore.
