1.
>another night in canterlot
-
2.
>when you first heard that lunas night court had been for the most part unused by the citizens of equestria unlike day court, you figured you should visit, why the hell not
-
3.
>you get a nice paycheck from the crown just for existing, at least that’s what you tell yourself while twilight runs her monotonous tests on you every week
-
4.
>so with the free money plus all the free time you went up to night court
-
5.
>apparently the trains still ran at night but on a more spread out schedule than during the day
-
6.
>you hopped on the train, got to the castle, and entered
-
7.
>before you could even open your mouth, luna shouted a clearly rehearsed greeting
-
8.
>”AH! GREETINGS CITIZEN! HOW MAY WE ASSIST THEE IN THY HOUR OF NEED????”
-
9.
>her greeting ended with a few labored breaths as she clearly put all her energy into both the speech and the shattering of your eardrums
-
10.
>at that moment you knew that your attendance meant more to her than you could have realized
-
11.
>her anxious gaze made it obvious as she awaited your response
-
12.
>so you figured you would just ask some menial things, mostly confusions of cultural differences you had
-
13.
>terrible planner you were but a brilliant tactician
-
14.
>the exchange went extremely well
-
15.
>so much so that you kept returning, night after night
-
16.
>your attendance at night court became a regular thing
-
17.
>and luna always awaited your attendance with excitement
-
18.
>she’s become the one pony you’re most comfortable around by miles at this point
-
19.
>which leads you back to now
-
20.
>”anonymous… permit me to pose thee a question.”
-
21.
>you turn to her, both of you laying on your backs on the balcony
-
22.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
-
23.
>she hesitate for a moment
-
24.
>”though we… comprehend thy chronicles of celestial ventures…”
-
25.
>”we must ask… ”
-
26.
>she squirms a slight bit, seemingly uncomfortable
-
27.
>”what does the night truly mean to thee?”
-
28.
>the question takes you back for a moment
-
29.
>it felt extremely unspecific, as if being told to describe whether the concept of driving a car is a positive or negative thing
-
30.
>and it’s these kinds of questions that require further elaboration
-
31.
“Well… I’m not sure how to say this…”
-
32.
>you pause for a moment
-
33.
“When I was younger, I used to stay up late to do the things I really liked to do”
-
34.
“I mean, everyone’s been there at one point or another”
-
35.
“Whether it’s school, work, or even a bad day in general”
-
36.
“There’s this urge to just push your sleep back a little bit and enjoy not being held to any social rules or expectations”
-
37.
>you turn to luna, softening your voice
-
38.
“I guess what I’m really trying to say is… the night means freedom to me”
-
39.
>luna gazes just below your eyes and takes a breath inward
-
40.
>she looks back at you and extends a wing over top of your body
-
41.
>”dost thou feel this same freedom in our presence?”
-
42.
>you let out a breath in amusement
-
43.
“Of course I do luna…”
-
44.
>she once again gazes below your eyes, this time with a soft smile
-
45.
>she looks off to the side while still facing you
-
46.
>”‘tis a… bitter night… ”
-
47.
>”wouldst thou feel… comforted… nearer to us…?”
-
48.
>you’re taken aback slightly, but not by much
-
49.
>the goosebumps you’ve developed are enough evidence to suggest a proper response
-
50.
“It would mean the world to me…”
-
51.
>her small smile grows in size as she wraps her wing around you to pull you close
-
52.
>her chin rests on top of her head as your face is buried into her chest
-
53.
>as sound of you being pulled towards her ends, it leaves silence in its wake for a few moments
-
54.
>”We shall hold thee ever, whenever thy heart doth call”
-
55.
>she tightens the embrace ever so slightly, letting the primary feather at the very end of her wing gently lay around the back of your neck
-
56.
>”Thy presence is a boon beyond all price, which I shall never yield…”
-
57.
>your last moment awake is spent feeling her breath glide gently across the top of your head
