Acid Rain

Expiry: Never

  1. >It’s been 2 Years, 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 1 Day, 5 Hours, 46 Minutes and 40 Seconds since we got stranded
  2. >The rations are gone now
  3. >The last ones consumed just a couple of hours ago, we ate till full
  4. >Why save it? Oxygen won’t last enough time to let us get hungry anyways
  5. >We are running on borrowed time, fate wanted to mock us just a little bit longer
  6. >It was a miracle we found this abandoned griffon station
  7. >Full of supplies, fuel, and other commodities just for the two of us…
  8. >It was plenty but not infinite, we ended up using everything leaving us with only a bunch of useless metal
  9. >At first, we were hopeful, maybe it wasn’t over, maybe we could find another planet, one with good enough conditions to at least spend our final days in peace. We were wrong
  10. >Over 2 years of traveling, dead space.
  11. >It was beautiful though. We saw stars, planets, comets, galaxies, we saw everything, and it was breathtaking
  12. >For a moment we felt like this was just a big adventure, that perhaps we would find others, aliens, anything.
  13. >We were wrong, oh we were so wrong
  14. >It was empty, no one was there, no planets to visit, only inhospitable planets that would kill us in just minutes if we dared to step one foot on them.
  15. >With the diminishing supplies reality set in, we were trapped in the spaceship and our judgement day was fast approaching
  16. >That day is today, Nassie and I know
  17. >We decided to use the few last litters of fuel to give us a push towards the closest moon we could find
  18. >It wasn’t like the one that used to exist back at home, this one is darker, full of rifts and ravines made by the constant sieged of meteorites and other space debris
  19. >It doesn’t matter, it will do
  20.
  21. >We left the spaceship, taking the lunar module with the last of our oxygen in our suits
  22. >Finding one particularly bright spot on this desert moon we landed
  23. >The rattling of the metal, paired with our breathing were the only thing making noise in several millions of kilometers.
  24. >As the dust settles in you turn to see Nasapone, she has this look on her face that makes you want to just leave everything and comfort her.
  25. >But I can't, I probably have the same look on my own face.
  26. >….
  27.
  28.
  29. “kssh…You ready?”
  30. >” …. yes”
  31. >You reach for the lever
  32. >Flipping the lever produce some internal locks on the hatch to come loose and that lets you open it
  33. >As you move to open the door a hoof stops you
  34. >” Let me do it…crrrr”
  35. >You don’t say anything you just back away letting Nassie push the door open
  36. >As she does so you notice her oxygen tank, it’s almost empty
  37. >…Nothing to do about it at this point
  38. >Finishing opening the door she turns her head towards you
  39. >”kssh…Lets go, Anon”
  40. >You follow suit
  41. >You two decided to have one last adventure exploring this god forsaken moon
  42. >An one way trip to the moon
  43. >It may be deserted and broken but it had some melancholy beauty to it if you are being honest
  44. >Walking around, observing anything that the universe could have to offer on this rock, just because.
  45. >You don’t need reasons anymore
  46.
  47. >Walking together you and Nassie leave the module following one particularly deep ravine
  48. “crrr… This place is nice”
  49. >You try to lighten up the mood
  50. >”…..”
  51. “kssh…The sky is beautiful, don’t you think Nassie?”
  52. >”…”
  53. “…Nassie?”
  54. >You turn your attention her
  55. >Her gilded visor makes it hard to see her face, so you stop for a moment and approach her
  56. “Are you okay?”
  57. >”…..”
  58. >You feel a tinge of desperation, a crack in your façade
  59. >With this feeling as fuel, you hurry and push the button on the side of her helmet to retract the gold coating from her visor leaving her visor clear from the outside
  60. >She is crying
  61. “kssh… h-hey Nassie, everything its okay!...”
  62. >You kneel and embrace her
  63. >She hugs you back, with fervor
  64. >Trying to calm her down with soothing sounds you feel a knot in your throat
  65. >”crrr…I-I don’t want to die..kssh.. Anon!. I don’t want us to die!...kssh…”
  66. >She is full out sobbing now
  67. >It unbearable to hear this once happy and positive mare like this, but you got to be strong, for her.
  68. >”kssh… there.. there… everything will be just fine Nassie….please don’t cry, I’m still here with you”
  69. >Still sobbing she just rests her body on your chest
  70. >You keep making soothing sounds and telling her about your favorite planets you two saw out there
  71.
  72. >After what felt like hours Nassie’s sobs have stopped
  73. >She was peacefully laying on your chest
  74. >…..Too peacefully
  75. “Are you alright Nassie?”
  76. >”…”
  77. “Nassie?!”
  78. >You shake her off panicking
  79. >Thankfully she was just resting, the depleting oxygen must be making her drowsy
  80. >”hmmm..”
  81. >Waking up you look at her eyes, all red and puffy from expressing her burden
  82. “C’mon Nassie, lets go I want to do something”
  83. >Better not give her more time to think about the situation
  84. >She just gives you a glance and follows you, not even asking why.
  85. …..
  86. >Walking for a little bit you two end up on a particularly even patch of moon, softly illuminated by starts nearby
  87. >This is perfect.
  88. >As you begin to check your stuff up you hear a voice thru the radio
  89. >”kssh… Anon? why are we stopping here?”
  90. >fidgeting with your stuff you respond
  91. “Well Nassie, I have been thinking and…”
  92. >You take up your small music player that you decided to take before leaving earth
  93. >You have been listening to it almost every day, by now you know all the songs by heart
  94. >Nassie has been listening to it too though not as much since the catastrophe
  95. >Ever since your endless voyage you started playing all the songs almost religiously
  96. >All songs but one
  97. >Perhaps it was fear, or a way to pretend your situation has solution.
  98. >Nevertheless, each passing day this song felt more and more close to home
  99. “Why don’t we…Dance…crrr?”
  100. >You extend your hand towards her
  101. >”crr…D-dance?”
  102. >She looks at you with a puzzled expression
  103. “I…wel….Remember that one song I told you I hated and you shouldn’t hear?”
  104. >“Yeah?....”
  105. “ksssh….I want to hear it now. Together”
  106. >”And dance?..crrr”
  107. “I never got to take you on that date I promised you”
  108. >She thinks for a second, or maybe she was just taking a break from talking, she looks tired
  109. >She tries to give you the best smile she can
  110. >”I’d love to dance with you, Anon”
  111. >You smile and begin to transmit your music player to both of you and Nassie’s comms
  112. “Alright!...kssh”
  113.
  114. >As the piano begins playing, you take Nassie’s front legs and lift her front body, making her walk on two legs
  115. >Your bodies had suffered from the effects of chronic exposure to low gravity, but since you two have only landed on planet with barely any gravity she manages just well
  116. >With small steps the two of you begin to waltz awkwardly
  117. <Our day has come
  118. It's drawn in the sky
  119. So don't shed a tear now
  120. Be thankful for the time
  121. Life wouldn't be so precious dear if there never was an end>
  122. >With one hand on her withers and other grabbing her left hoof you close your eyes and try to breath in
  123. <Children still play in the garden
  124. Dance as the sun slips away>
  125. >You imagine a world where you and Nassie come back
  126. >Greeted by all your friends
  127. >A world where you end up with her
  128. <We stand on the edge now
  129. We've come so far
  130. And through all the dust it becomes clear
  131. You will always be my heart
  132. There's no death, no end of time when I'm facing it with you>
  133. >Opening your wet and heavy eyes you look down at Nassie and she looks back at you, face filled with tears and a the most painful smile you have ever seen
  134. >Saying nothing you lift her up completely off the ground, using the song tempo to make this slow waltz into something much faster.
  135. <Children still play in the garden
  136. Dance as the sun slips away
  137. Not even stars last forever
  138. Cleanse us acid rain>
  139. >You imagine the two of you dancing in canterlot.
  140. >Instead of rocks and dust there are other ponies, talking, laughing and acting lively
  141. >Old friends cheering for the two of you
  142. >You feel lightheaded
  143. >Is this what oxygen deprivation feels like?
  144. <Stand near to me
  145. Don't look, be brave
  146. Over the blackened moon
  147. I'll carry you away
  148. Through the planets we fly>
  149. >Nassie looks so beautiful, she's wearing a purple purple dress that contrasts her hair just right
  150. >She is resting her head on your chest now
  151. <Children still play in the garden
  152. Dance as the sun slips away
  153. Not even stars last forever
  154. Cleanse us acid rain>
  155. >Your heart aches, its beating increasing dramatically
  156. >You love her so much
  157. >Nassie
  158. <Send us home>
  159. >Suddenly, you feel your legs give in, even with this low gravity you find really hard to stand up
  160. >Nassie just collapses on the floor as you let her go…she must be tired
  161. <Send us home>
  162. >With all your strength you manage to lift Nassie again, bringing her to your chest
  163. >You feel too tired to dance now
  164. >Staggering you walk toward the closest rock you could find
  165. <Send us home>
  166. >Reaching it, you sit down, carefully placing Nassie on your arms, you don’t want to wake her up.
  167. >She is resting peacefully, God you love this mare
  168. >You want to be closer to her, to feel her warmth, but this stupid suit makes it impossible to do anything but look at her-
  169. >…..
  170. >Maybe she won’t mind if you just...
  171. >Grabbing her body with one hand you reach for the side of her helmet
  172. >Finding the safety switches you begin to unlock her suit
  173. >Just for a little bit, she won’t notice
  174. >As you finish unlocking the helmet you use your free hand to lift it and reveal Nassie’s face
  175. >You see the pressurized air leave her suit and with that her body
  176. >You can see her face now, ice crystals forming all over her, like tiny stars filling the sky
  177. >She is so beautiful
  178. >You reach for her face, trying to feel her cheeks but the gloves make it hard to feel anything
  179. >…..
  180. >….
  181. >.....
  182. >Your hand hurts, its boiling from the inside, you can feel the bubbles forming under your skin
  183. >It's worth it
  184. >You reach her cheeks and begin to caress her face. She so soft, so beautiful
  185. >....
  186. >Feeling more daring you take your helmet out, careful to not wake Nassie up
  187. >….
  188. >…
  189. >It’s so cold outside
  190. >You begin gasping for inexistent air but you’ll manage
  191. >Grabbing her sleeping body with both hand you weakly lift her face up to your level
  192. >One little kiss, she won’t mind
  193. >Your vision is blurry, but you'll manage
  194. >Seeing her up close feels surreal, the two of you started using the suits almost 24/7 after the ship’s oxygen ran out
  195. >This feels different nonetheless
  196. >Perhaps it’s the soft natural light of the night sky or her sparkling face shining like a bunch of constellations, you don’t know.
  197. >What you do know is that you need kiss her
  198. >You need to kiss her so bad now
  199. >And you do so
  200. >Closing your eyes, you lean towards her resting face
  201. >......
  202. >You feel on cloud nine, like fainting even.\
  203. >Is this what being in love feels like?
  204. >Your lips met hers, they are warm
  205. >You love this mare so much
  206. >She is so beautiful…
