  5. ---------------------------------------------------------
  6. >You are Anon, a mercenary
  7. >And you just accepted one of the most dangerous jobs there are
  8. >You need to get a pastel coloured unicorn horn for a collector
  9. >Why that s such a hard job you may ask? Simple
  10. >All mercenary friends you've had died trying to get one for themselves, as a way to raise their reputation
  11. >Of course you can't have a reputation if you re not even alive so you decided to not go after it
  12. >You did spy some of your friends death though, having info on possible targets is never too bad
  13. >But on every failure, it was just like a rehearsal
  14. >The bullets they shot quickly lost their momentum as they got close to the unicorn and dropped to the ground
  15. >You have no idea how it worked, the bullets simply slowed down as they got closer to the unicorn
  16. >And on every one of the deaths the unicorns did the same thing
  17. >As soon the human got out of ammo they'd nod once and then they'd take a look at the dead human
  18. >Dead because somehow as they lowered their heads one bullet would levitate and later speed up after the human
  19. >Always killing the target in one shot
  20. >You always waited the unicorn to leave before getting away since seeing that sent a chill to your bones, no matter how many times you had seen it
  21. >Still you never refused a contract and you're not letting this one be the first
  22. >Sadly 'a unicorn horn' is too specific so you cant change the terms to make things easier on your contract either
  23. >Expecting the worst you get your most prized gun
  24. >A M82A2, factory new that you never shot it even once before
  25. >You loved that gun so much you couldn’t bring it to a mission
  26. >But since this will probably be your last mission you may as well use it
  27. >You were keen on sniper rifles so the knockback mustn't be any problem
  28. >The extra AP pack you got for it was also closed neatly inside a drawer
  29. >You've got it as an extra for a job before even thinking on getting this gun
  30. >Well both are going to be put to good use tomorrow
  31. >And you hope that this physics bullshit doesn’t happen with you when you go against whatever unicorn you face
  32.
  33. >Today is the day
  34. >You wish you had a silencer because you heard this gun is quite noisy and noisy definitively doesn’t fit your style
  35. >So you also grabbed your M16A1, if you're not lucky to find one alone and need to be quiet
  36. >Still you will need to recover the corpse, but you will worry about that when the time comes
  37. >After some hours driving towards one of these pony villages you decide to hide in a bush and wait there for a lucky pick
  38. >After only a few minutes you hear hooves coming and ready your M16
  39. >Putting on the silencer you take aim for the mint unicorn
  40. >Man she s a beauty…
  41. >Fuck that, you have a job to do
  42. >Hesitantly you send a single burst at the non-suspecting unicorn
  43. >And just what you worried happened … well … happened
  44. >The bullets just lost their momentum and dropped to the ground
  45. >You freeze on your spot waiting for the imminent death, never taking your eyes out of the unicorn
  46. >Time to join your comrades
  47. >Wait the unicorn is running away?
  48. >You try to recall what happened while you panicked
  49. >All that you remember was the unicorn's grin and the bullets floating on her side while running back
  50. >No one will believe you, that's for sure
  51. >Still you're not sure you should go on with the mission, the M16 was definitively useless
  52. >The M82 is far more powerful though and you have the AP rounds for it as well
  53. >In the end you decide to take your chances and a second shot, hoping those odds to change anything in the end
  54. >You keep listening someone say that lightning never strikes a spot twice on your mind
  55. >But the fear of failing the mission is far greater and you keep moving
  56. >You decided to hide somewhere very far from the road this time since you will be making quite some noise
  57. >Still this voice on your head is driving you crazy since every time you stop it says it's not far enough
  58. >You've been driving your bike for many minutes when you finally reach enough distance to feel safe enough
  59. >Just about 1,5 kilometers (about 1 mile) away from the road
  60. >You don't waste time to get yourself ready and look at the scope, immediately seeing a lavender dot in it
  61. >After increasing the scope zoom you see that its a winged unicorn trotting down the pathway, certainly wary of her surroundings
  62. >Seems like you hit a hotspot on this road
  63. >Or maybe it was the mint unicorn fault
  64. >All you know is that winged unicorns are way too rare to pass the opportunity, you may even ask for a bonus for it
  65. >You take note of the wind to make sure you will get the right trajectory before finally taking the shot
  66. >The noise was even greater than what you expected and no wonder it alerted the alicorn, who stopped on its tracks and looked directly at your position
  67. >After what seemed like a full minute looking at the alicorn's eyes and it looking back the AP round you fired finally made contact with the side of her chest and she dropped instantly
  68. >You can't believe you actually fucking did it
  69. >Even though you actually missed where you actually aimed the shot, she stopped on the perfect place to get hit
  70. >Not wasting any time you hurry up to where you shot her, hoping no other pony comes by and see the body
  71. >This time the drive didn’t take half as long it took you to get up the hill
  72. >As you begin to approach the place you finally notice that she actually got blown away a fair distance by the shot by the marks on the ground
  73. >You knew this gun was strong but damn
  74. >You finally arrive in the area and notice that the alicorn is still alive, since she's slowly beating her wings as if trying to flee
  75. >You also take note that its possible to see a small translucent purple dome around her
  76. >She s on the ground seemingly unable to move any of her forelegs
  77. >Her backlegs on other hand are visibly shaking, and as you approach she stops moving her wings and closes her eyes on fear
  78. >The dome gets brighter and you ready your M82 to make the killing blow, not taking any chances of retaliation
  79. >As soon the pellet makes contact with the shield it explodes in many pieces and shatters everywhere
  80. >Including you
  81. >The pieces are small so you don’t take any major damage, yet now you're bleeding pretty much everywhere
  82. >The alicorn still there, now with her eyes open looking at you pleadingly
  83. >The first unicorn was a beauty, this one looks cute as fuck now on a closer look
  84. >What are you doing with your life
  85. >You grab a twig from a nearby tree and try to bypass her shield
  86. >Nothing happens to it so you're confident your next idea won't result in you losing an arm
  87. >Slowly you advance inside the dome and grab her
  88. >Her wings flutter a bit but besides that there's pretty much no resistance
  89. >Goddam her fur is so soft you just want to stay here and pet her
  90. >But you have a job to do so you put her on the back of your bike and ride back home
  91. >The purple-ish aura that was around you two starts fading and curiosity takes the better of you, making you slow down and look back
  92. >She has her eyes closed and no sign of movement either as far you can tell
  93. >The guilt is too big and you stop and check if she s breathing
  94. >Yea she seems alright, even if her breathing is uneven…
  95. >...you start questioning why you did this
  96. >Finally you take her out of the bike and place her on the ground to give her some first aid, removing the bullet and bandaging the spot
  97. >It's better to bring her to your home instead of returning to the collector who asked for the horn until you clear your mind
  98.
  99. >Its been one week
  100. >Twilight, the alicorn you caught, is also able to speak which made things much easier to do around her
  101. >She also has made a full recovery in mere 3 days, but you asked her to stay longer to get better
  102. >Not only because she was fun to talk to, but you were honestly worried for her
  103. >You can't deny you loved petting her too
  104. >And by the sounds she made she probably also loved it
  105. >You didn’t even have to enforce it with a gun or anything, just talking and reasoning with her was enough
  106. >That was what hit you harder, remembering about putting a bullet in her some days ago
  107. >You wouldn’t have pointed a gun at a pony nowadays after having twilight by your side for all this time
  108. >About that, you ended canceling a contract for the first time
  109. >The collector sure wasn’t happy but you were not going to turn Twilight in
  110. >You wish you could keep her as a pet but she is sapient so she probably would want to get back to her home
  111. >You wonder if you could stay with her there if that s the case…
  112.
  113. >You just finished eating lunch when darkness rolls by the city
  114. >Many ponies, earth ponies, pegasi, unicorns and even the legendary alicorn sisters attacked your town
  115. >Being just a village and not having any defensive systems it was quickly devastated
  116. >You and Twilight snuggled on the sofa scared before a royal guard peeked from the window
  117. >Well only you were scared really, but Twilight stayed there trying to tranquilize you
  118. >After a few seconds the guard went away and a golden explosion blew away the wall just to the side of your door
  119. >After the dust settled you finally saw a white alicorn standing there on the other side
  120. >Celestia, the one whose stories were the craziest you've ever heard
  121. >She just stood there, judging you while having some sort of a staring contest
  122. >You were so scared you held on Twilight as firmly as you could, knowing no matter what you did your fate was sealed
  123. >The white alicorn finally acted, sending a bright golden beam directly at you, only to ricochet on nothingness and fly to the ceiling
  124. >The beam was straight and continuous so you were quick to assume that was Twilight’s doing, somehow
  125. >But after seeing the scene unfold your mind decided you had enough and you passed out
  126.
  127. >You wake up with your head on Twilight’s belly, with her petting your head like you did many times with her
  128. > Your vision is blurry but you can notice another being on the other side of the sofa
  129. >After rubbing your eyes you notice it’s the regal alicorn from before
  130. >Surely she wanted you to feel the pain and waited for you to wake up before killing you
  131. >The petting you're receiving from Twilight sure calmed you down though, like nothing could harm you now
  132. >Besides that one alicorn
  133. >”Anon I just wanted to thank you for saving my student from the other human who shot her, I don’t know what could have happened if you weren’t there for her”
  134. >What?
  135. >But you're the one who shot her
  136. >Unless Twilight thought you fought and defeated the bloody guy, which was also yourself
  137. >Not hearing any answer from you the white alicorn continues, interrupting your thoughts
  138. >”As a token of gratitude … and apology … you're more than welcome to live with us in Equestria for as long as you like”
  139. >Wait what?
  140. >”You can live with me if you want, I could take care of you while you get used to it”
  141. >This last one was definitively Twilight talking, yet you have no idea what the two are on about
  142. >”I left -my- magical signature in you, so you can bypass the human shield the princesses set up"
  143. >"Also whenever you want to go there I'll be able to track you and escort you, I assure you nopony or guard will harm you either“
  144. >The way twilight said ‘my’ was a bit unsettling, being able to track you at will didn't seem like a good idea to you either, being a hunter and all
  145. >Meanwhile the white alicorn was just giggling on her side of the sofa, immediately changing to a poker face when you looked at her
  146. >Before you can understand the situation both of them started walking to the door
  147. >Or rather the hole to the side of it
  148. >You notice a dark blue alicorn also move that way, which you didn’t even notice was there in the first place
  149. >And she keep staring at you all the way there
  150. >All the 3 of them said their goodbyes and flew away after getting outside
  151. >After some time has passed you go outside and look around
  152. >The village was no more, not a single human soul to be seen
  153. >You look at your own house, before a 2 floor building, now the 2nd floor is no more and the only space that remains untouched is the way from the door to the sofa
  154. >You fall to your knees and start whimpering, thinking what to do with your life
  155. >You hear heavy flapping from wings and look back to see Twilight descending
  156. >She notices your distress and looks around before saying with a smug:
  157. >”This is what you get for shooting and kidnapping a princess…”
  158. >Your brain took a while but you recognize that smug
  159. >It's the same one from when she decided to stay with you
  160. >She planned it all throughout
  161. >Worst of all, she actually knows the truth and doesn’t think you saved her from a bloody evil twin brother of yourself
  162. >You feel the need to say something to save yourself, but before you can interject she locks her eyes with your own
  163. >”…and this is what you get for saving her”
  164. >Not giving you time to think she leaps forward and gives you the most sincere and warmest hug you ever received
  165. >You meanwhile just stand there, shocked
  166. >After a good while, noticing she wouldn't get her hug back she releases you
  167. >She still keeps a hoof on your shoulder and looks at you directly into your eyes
  168. >"I hope that even though we had a rough beginning we can get to become friends someday"
  169. >"Also you probably know how to get there and I can track you if you get lost, but here s a map on how to get to my castle"
  170. >She levitates a piece of paper to the ground in front of you and start flying away again
  171. >"Until then Anon" - She says before speeding up
  172. >You could just plot revenge and go there to show how much you enjoyed this 'time' she decided to stay with you
  173. >But then again you truly did enjoy it
  174. >There was also some part of you that wanted to live there, wanting more of the pleasant chat you two had at the sofa
  175. >No rent or expenses would be good too
  176. >But you re not sure you want to live with the ones responsible to the destruction of your village
  177. >But then again you re the only one to be blamed
  178. >You take your guns, the map and start to walk away
  179. >Its not like you can restart here so may as well go somewhere, maybe you could restart there
  180. >Even though you re not sure what to do when you do get there
  181. >You sigh, unknowlingly leaving your hunter ways behind and starting to tread the hard path of friendship
  182.
